How Does The Endocrine System Maintain Homeostasis
Lauryn Varga 03 17 17 1B
The Endocrine System is important because it maintains homeostasis. It secretes hormones into the
bloodstream which helps the body in growth and reproduction. The endocrine system maintains
homeostasis by releasing hormones which affect how the body works and functions. Homeostasis
is maintaining the body s natural state and keeping hormonal levels constant and stable. The
endocrine system is a group of glands including the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, thymus, testes,
ovaries, adrenal, pancreas, and hypothalamus. The endocrine system interacts with the urinary,
nervous, digestive, and reproductive system, each in different ways. The nervous and endocrine
system interact through signals called

Sleeping Disorders Research Paper
There are many different types of sleeping disorders that may affect the way you sleep at night
and act during the day. A sleeping disorder is a change in your sleep cycle or a quirk that can
negatively affect your health. They prevent you from getting a good night s sleep. Although they
sound harsh, most sleeping disorders can be treated or can improve with treatment. According to
scientists, there are roughly 80 types of sleeping disorders. Four of the most common ones are:
insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. Insomnia is separated into 3 different
types: transient, acute, and chronic. Transient insomnia occurs when your symptoms last for only a
couple of days. Acute, or short term insomnia, occurs when your symptoms last for a few weeks.
Chronic insomnia is the type of insomnia that may last for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which your breathing is interrupted during sleep. There are two
separate forms of sleep apnea, one is obstructive and the other is central. Obstructive sleep apnea
is when the tissue in your throat collapses and blocks your airway, and central sleep apnea is
when your brain doesn t signal your muscles to breathe. This disorder can be caused if you:
smoke, are an overweight male, have high blood pressure, or have a neck circumference larger
than 15.75 inches. A few of the symptoms of sleep apnea are: extremely loud snoring, choking
during sleep, shortness of breath, daytime fatigue, waking up with a sore throat, or using the
restroom a lot at night. Sleep apnea can be treated with a machine called the CPAP device. The
CPAP device is a mask machine that provides a stream of air through your nose and mouth. This
device keeps your airways clear at all times, while you sleep. Another way to treat it is by having a
tonsillectomy or an adenoid removal. Nearly 22 million Americans suffer from sleep apnea and the
majority don t even know

Ban and monitoring of internet browsing and surfing

Ban and monitoring of internet browsing and surfing
There is a continuous monitoring over the Internet in the United States. This is the potential and
propositional controversy over the privacy rights. This law is stated as the invasion of privacy, and
it can be observed that this regulation is placed upon us for the context of limitation and a ban on
certain websites. This is truly an example of a nanny state where one is being observed and is not
free to surf and browse the internet (Broache, 2016). This primarily discusses the benefits of this
law and the constraints and downsides of this law. Thus, this article delimits the potential of control
over the internet for the so called Safe Secure browsing.
The control over the internet has been the long standing ambition of the government, and the public
has always restrained themselves from it. It can be understood that the potential and the positional
benefits of this is limitless. Corporates tend to provide a more customized experience, whereas
Governments wish to stay alerted from the activities that are present, it can be seen that the
potential and the common objective is awareness (Stanley Steinhardt, 2003).
This becomes a nanny state as the government makes amends and tends tries to monitor all the
activities of its citizens. This effects the citizens and the nation in a twofold manner, it effects the
government in a manner

Changes in Bangladesh
Changes in Bangladesh
Bangladesh came to today s shape through a long history of political evolution. Bengal was
probably the wealthiest part of the subcontinent up till the 16th century. The area s early history
featured a succession of Indian empires, internal squabbling, and a tussle between Hinduism and
Buddhism for dominance. All of this was just a prelude to the unstoppable tide of Islam which
washed over northern India at the end of the 12th century. Mohammed Bakhtiar Khalzhi from
Turkistan captured Bengal in 1199 with only 20 men. That was just the beginning. The journey of
Bangladesh goes on.
Today here I am going to state the changes I have experienced through my life. So it will be a

Climate Change:
As one of the countries most seriously affected by climate change and natural disasters, Bangladesh
has been forced to be resourceful and resilient. Without outside help, however, the country of 160
million will not have the capacity to address climate related environmental changes as their severity
and frequency increase. The United States should augment its focus on adaptation measures when
providing the South Asian nation with aid.
The repercussions of global warming on Bangladesh are diverse and wide reaching. The
environmental changes that are occurring directly affect all aspects of society. Human health, food
security, industry and energy security, infrastructure, and economic development are all threatened
by climate change. According to the World Bank, 40 percent of foreign aid to Bangladesh is
vulnerable to climate related factors. In a country as densely populated as Bangladesh, even small
scale shifts in ecological systems have a profound humanitarian

Management of Diversity in Organization
Management of Diversity in Organization
Abstract
Organizations have been becoming increasingly diverse in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, and
nationality. This diversity brings substantial potential benefits such as better decision making,
greater creativity and innovation, and more successful marketing to different types of customers.
But, increasing cultural differences within a workforce also bring potential costs in higher
turnovers, interpersonal conflicts, and communicational breakdowns. The utilities of diversity
training and the essential managerial skills required for effectively managing diversity will also be
discussed.

Research tends to support this relationship. Kanter s study of innovation in organizations revealed
that the most innovative companies deliberately establish heterogeneous teams to create a
marketplace of ideas, recognizing that a multiplicity of points of view needs to be brought to bear
on a problem . Kanter also specifically noted that companies high on innovation had done a better
job than most on eradicating racism, sexism, and classism, in addition, tended to employ more
women and racioethnic minorities than less innovative companies.
Research by Charlene J. Nemeth found that minority views can stimulate consideration of non
obvious alternatives in task groups. Nemeth found that the minority groups adopted multiple
strategies and identified more solutions than the majority groups. She concluded that the groups
exposed to minority views were more creative than the more homogeneous, majority groups. She
further concluded that persistent exposure to minority viewpoints stimulates creative thought
processes. Another experiment compared the creativity of teams that were homogeneous on a series
of attitude measures against teams with heterogeneous attitudes. Problem solution creativity was
judged on originality and practicality. Results indicated that as long as the team members had
similar ability levels, the heterogeneous teams were more creative than the homogeneous ones. If

The Picture Of Dorian Gray, Against Nature, And The Yellow
True Decadence It is vague, underrated, barely recognized, and yet it seems to have embedded
itself into movies, TV, video games, and most of all, literature. Decadence literally means the
moral decaying of society and has been a theme utilized in both writing and our modern media for
decades, even if it was not directly intended to be so. Literary works that helped establish this
tendency include The Picture of Dorian Gray, Against Nature, and The Yellow Book. Delving into
the subject, it is easy to conclude that such a theme is meant to present unconventional and
sometimes controversial ideas in a an overly romanticized way and express the author s perspective
of such ideas that may influence the reader into seeing the value, if any,

Anorexia Nervosa Essay
Anorexia Nervosa
I have chosen to study about Anorexia Nervosa because I would like to know more about this
topic and why people do it to themselves. I wonder why young people in particular feel that they
need to be so thin.
In this assignment I would like to study mainly on why teenage girls feel so conscious about their
bodies, what they feel about the way that women are portrayed in the media and the effects of
Anorexia Nervosa.
To be able to cover this stage of work, I will find information from the Internet and the library,

There are always pictures in teenage magazines and in the newspapers. They are a bad influence
on all teenagers as it is very easy to get jealous. One thing every girl should know is that as all
their bodily changes take place, most girls begin to get more body fat, which makes them curvier
in shape. This is not just a case of getting fat , but rather becoming more womanly in shape. At
some point most girls begin to worry that they are putting on weight and start to compare
themselves to models in magazines.
What are the causes?
The disease usually begins in young people around the time of puberty. The causes for this
disease are still not known. Some people think that if they are thinner they will be more happy
and successful. Some times the causes of anorexia can be from a painful childhood, sexual
abuse, physical abuse, domineering coaches and controlling relationships and they are punishing
themselves because of it. Domineering coaches are a reason for anorexia because for example

Comparing After You And Everything Happens For A Reason
The novel After You by Jojo Moyes and poem Everything Happens for a Reason by Katie both
contain a similar message that moving on from the death of a loved one is difficult initially, but as
time progresses the pain will ease.
First, one similarity the novel and poem both share examples of the initial pain after a loved one
has passed away.
After Will s death, Louisa goes on the roof while drunk and yells out to the heavens: You didn t
give me a bloody life, did you? Not really. You just smashed up my old one. Smashed it into little
pieces. What am I meant to do with what s left? (Moyes 7).
Much like Louisa, the speaker in Everything Happens for a Reason ponders why did you have to
go/you left me in a wreck (Katie 4 5).
Both Louisa and Katie show how in the initial stages of moving on from the death of a loved one,
life seems unfixable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While panicked over her missing friend, Louisa finds herself talking to Will s spirit to comfort her:
I walked and drove and questioned and walked and held endless internal conversations with him
(Moyes 234).
Similar to Louisa, the speaker of the poem felt [they] were still here/like [they] were in [her] spirit
/like [they] never went (Katie 17 19).
As time progressed, both the speaker and Louisa felt the presence of their loved one, and it did not
make them sad, yet comforted.
Finally, Louisa and the speaker realize how the life of their loved one influenced so many people
around them.
At the final meeting of the Moving On Circle, Lily, Will s unknown daughter, gives a speech
saying that Will gave [her] a family [she] didn t know [she] had (Moyes 345) and his family
responds telling her they were very happy [she] turned up (Moyes

Investigating Cableways And Design An Efficient Vertical...
Summary
To investigate cableways and design an efficient vertical transportation system for goods, in the
hilltop communities of Nepal.
My research established an understanding of existing cableway technology and explored a practical
engineering improvement for adaptation in developing countries. I identified that engineering, a
topic of personal interest, should be the field of research considered. A discussion with university
students was completed to find a specific issue that I could investigate. One topic suggested for
investigation from the EngineersWithoutBorders Challenge, inspired the research question.
The outcome format, a report, discussed my key findings and recommendations including; the
nature of cableways, influence of local topography, and constraints of existing technology. The
majority of my secondary sources were reports written by academics or aid organisations, found on
the web. Emailed questionnaires and personal interviews provided critical information and practical
critique of the design outcome. Analysis of findings combined with creative thinking enabled a
resolution of the research question. This was presented in the form of a proposed design at the
conclusion of the outcome report.

Thucydides Historical Technique Essay
Thucydides Historical Technique
Thucydides has often been described as one of the fathers of history, and possibly the first historian
that can be used with any real historical accuracy. His objectivity and lack of digressive storytelling
mark him out from previous historians such as Herodotus, and Thucydides began a new era of
historical writing. Although named the father of history, Herodotus wrote in a literary style, rather
than the accurate telling of the facts and objective analysis that Thucydides offers us in his History
of the Peloponnesian War. Herodotus tended to digress with irrelevant storytelling, whereas
Thucydides abandoned this technique, and adopted a method that greatly ... Show more content on

His exile may also have been a blessing in disguise, for it allowed him to become somewhat
detached from the Athenian side, and allowed him to write a more useful and balanced history. I
think that this can be seen when he is describing the opening stages of the war. Corinth and
Corcyra are the two countries who appear to spark off the war. Once war broke out, Corinth
became allied with Sparta, and Corcyra became an ally of Athens following a debate over
Corcyra[3]. As well as being an Athenian Thucydides clearly sees Corcyra as being the aggressor,
and describes the way that Corcyra disrespected its mother city state. (Apparently, Corcyra did not
give Corinth the usual respect and rights due to a founding city, and in fact Corcyra claimed that it
was superior to Corinth in a number of ways.)
…and at the same time they [the Corinthians] hated the Corcyraeans because they failed to
show to Corinth the respect due from a colony to the mother city.
Thucydides shows from the opening lines of his history that it was his vocation to records the
events, and therefore remained unbiased by events throughout the war, and concentrates rather on
recording the events, and including some of his own analysis.
Thucydides later became a general for the Athenians, and was unfortunate to be

Periodic Trends Are Specific Patterns That Are Present
Periodic trends are specific patterns that are present in the periodic table they illustrate different
aspects of a certain element, including its size and its properties. Major periodic trends include:
Electronegativity
Ionization energy
Electron affinity
Atomic radius
Melting point
Metallic character
Periodic trends, arising from the arrangement of the periodic table, provide chemists and scientists
with a helpful tool to quickly predict an element s properties. These trends exist because of the
similar atomic structure of the elements within their respective group families or periods, and
because of the periodic nature of the elements.
Electronegativity Trends
The definition of electronegativity is how strongly an atom can ... Show more content on

On the left hand side of the periodic table the elements have a half full valance shell, so meaning
that it is a higher energy level to gain electrons to fill that valance shell compared to less energy
to lose the electrons to complete the valance shell. Element on the left side usually lose electrons
to form a bond. Therefor elements on the right side are more energy efficient in gaining a set of
electrons to fill the valance shell. In a periodic table from left to right across a period,
electronegativity increases. If the valance shell is less than half full the atom loses electrons to
balance out and the opposite if the atom has a valance shell over half full. In a group from top to
bottom electronegativity decreases. There is an important exception noble gases, lanthanides, and
actinides do not have electronegativity principles, this is because they have a full valance shell so
they do not usually attract electrons. And as for transition metals, even though they have
electronegativity values, they are little different going up and down a group and going across a
period. This is because of the transition metals, metallic properties which affect their ability to
attract electrons.
Ionisation Energy Trends
Ionisation energy is defined as the energy required for the removal of an electron from a neutral
atom in its vaporous phase. In theory, ionisation energy has to opposite characteristic to

Visual Representation Is Our Cultural Dictator
Visual representation is our cultural dictator, the general sense of the word is the description or
portrayal of someone or something in a particular way (Oxford Dictionaries., 2014). In terms of
design it s the depiction of someone or something in a work of art (Oxford Dictionaries., 2014).
Representation is constructed of social values; it influences status, class and politics. The circuit of
culture (Hall, S., 1997, p.1) is the system in which society operates; it includes identity, production,
consumption, regulation and representation. To understand this circuit, we must understand the
substances of culture,
It s said to embody the best that has been thought and said in a society. It is the sum of great ideas,
as represented in the classic works of literature, painting, music and philosophy the high culture of
an age. (Hall, S., 1997 p.2) Fuelling 21st century culture is the economics and marketing of the first
world. The desire to consume is the notion of creating a persona through visual identity.
Representation in the physical sense is presenting oneself , (Williams, R. 1978, p.266) it s realised
that consumption is complicated because it s dictated by individual taste. Humanity resembles
chameleons, in the present day we are exposed and adaptable to fast fashion. Mass produced high
street clothing imitates couture fashion. At factional prices, cheaper quality alternatives are
obtainable to the working class, therefore trends are quickly outdated and

Descriptive Narrative
I remember packing my bags like it was yesterday. Although I ve been excitedly anticipating this

Belize! Our school organized a trip of which seniors, who were a part of the Environmental
Science course, could go on an eight day adventure in the vast jungles of Belize and explore the
party island itself San Pedro. While the other four students (five total including myself) had
trouble departing the school along with their loved ones, there was me who was impatiently
waiting and eagerly ready to go. I mean come on, it was just eight days in a foreign country
without cell service; however, that was the adrenaline speaking. Before I knew it, we arrived at
LAX. I felt my stomach begin to knot as we were boarding the plane. Having extreme motion
sickness wasn t the best trait to have at that time. However, I endured the nausea and managed
the aches knowing there was a new world ahead of me. Entering Belize, the amount of green I
saw was immeasurable. And better yet, the colored people were just as abundant. I could already
tell that this trip would be one for the books and what a big book that would turn out to be. We
were immediately greeted by our tour guide Manuel, whose humor and benevolence carried us
through our trips entirety, and created for each of us timeless and precious memories. Without

Dna Testing And The Second Amendment
DNA AS EVIDENCE
DNA testing was first used in criminal prosecutions in 1985 and is now admissible in all states.
(Hails, 184) Scientific and legal communities seem to universally accept the use of DNA as good
evidence. Questions could arise regarding testing procedures. There are several testing methods
that have been proven reliable and easily pass general acceptance and scientific validity tests. This
is causes number of Daubert cases questioning DNA to decline. In most cases, the tests that are
used are well established and do not require a separate hearing (Hails, 160) Once it is established
the testing method used passes the Daubert test, the court must determine admissibility based on
the Fourth Amendment. The Fourth Amendment is the right of the people to be secure in their
persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable search and seizures, shall not be
violated and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation,
and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (US
Const.) In United States v Davis, Earl Davis was shot and while being treated for his gunshot
wound, the Howard County Police Department (HCPD) in Maryland collected his clothing and
logged it along with records of Davis s arrest. The next year the nearby Prince George s County
Police Department (PGCPD) suspected Davis of a murder and obtained the clothes that HCPD had

Art Of The 1980s
Art and sports are my topics for this essay. My year is 1980. It was a very important time in the
art and sports world. The biggest moment in sports history in 1980 was the Miracle on Ice This
is when the USA hockey team beat the gold medalist Soviet Union. The Soviet Union had won
the gold medal in six of seven previous winter olympics, and were the favorite to win once more in
Lake Placid. The final of the nerve racking game was 3 to 4. It was a very close game but the USA
hockey team managed to hold the Soviets off.
The game in the medal round, the United States and the Soviet Union finished the first period with
a score of 2 2. The Soviet Union took the lead 3 2 in the second period. The US team scored two
more goals to take their first lead during the third and final period. Winning the game 4 3 in a

It s believed that the surface of Mercury is geologically inactive; although, only 55% of the surface
has been mapped in enough detail to see its geology.
Some of the largest craters in this period were filled with lava from Mercury s interior. It s
believed that vulcanism on Mercury ended during its first 700 800 million years. Craters on
Mercury can be small bowl shaped pockets, or huge impact craters hundreds of kilometers across.

The plates act like a hard and rigid shell compared to Earth s mantle. This strong outer layer is
called the lithosphere.
Four types of plate boundaries exist: Transform bounderies occur where two lithospheric plates

bounderies occur where two plates slide toward each other; Plate boundery zones occur where the
effects of the interactions are unclear.
The lithosphere, which is the rigid outermost shell of a planet (on Earth, the crust and upper

National Girl Child Day The Voice of Tomorrow
Forty Six years ago, on January 24, India got her First Lady Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
The nation of male dominance stood standstill in the awe of the power of this one lady whose
determination spoke volumes. Today, India stands high in the race of urbanization but in the genre
of social development, it is away behind. It is an irony in this country that where mother is
worshipped as Mother Divine, there is domestic violence. In a country where Kumari Puja is done,
there is female foeticide.
It is in this need to raise public awareness, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government
declared to observe January 24 as the National Girl Child Day in 2009. This day will be celebrated
every year till there is a gender balance in the country and till the time we match the required sex
ratio, said Renuka Chowdhury, then Minister of State for Women and Child Development1.
According to a United Nations survey in 2007, about 2000 unborn girls are illegally aborted
each day in India. The national average of sex ratio is 927 females to 1000 males with states like
Punjab (799) and Delhi (850) being the worst2. With this fearing declining rate, the gender gap
seems difficult to be achieved. The importance of the Girl Child should be on the national agenda

The benefits of a motivated staff should prove an impetus to managers to use motivation as a
driving force to obtain a high degree of functioning by employees. According to Musselwhite (2011)
managers who are effective at motivating their direct reports reap the reward of employees who can
handle a variety of assignments, work more autonomously, report higher levels of job satisfaction,
and contribute more to the success of the department, the organization, and in return, to the success
of their manager (p. 46). This in turn may motivate the manager to work harder and look at ways to
improve and increase departmental functioning in the future. ... Show more content on

329). Equity gives employees the sense of fairness in the workplace. A perceived inequity may
result in decreased productivity and a sense of dissatisfaction in the workplace. An equitable
workplace shows increased productivity, decreased absenteeism, and less staff turnover. Equity
theory in the workplace shows greatly in matters of wages (Sweeney, 1990).
Goal Setting Theory Theory Description Goal setting theory developed in the 1960s and 1970s
by Gary Latham and Edwin Locke promotes the notion that if a manager provides an employee
with specific, challenging goals the worker tended to outperform a worker assigned a vague, non
specific goal such as do the best you can. This theory relies on the manager s awareness of the skill
level and abilities of all employees (Borkowski, 2005).
Goal Setting Theory in the Workplace The concept of the goal setting theory necessitates planning
in advance by management after a thorough thought process of the goal needing to be met and the
resources, including employees, available to assist in the goal achievement. The three steps
required by the goal setting theory, goal setting, goal commitment, and support elements, need
careful consideration by the manager (Borkowski, 2005). Goals need the characteristics of
specificity and measurability. As employees perform the different levels of self confidence, the
goals set by management must show attainability by the employee in accordance with the

External Environment Factors Affecting The British Airways...
INTRODUCTION.
At the present time, the airline industry faces many cost pressures. The industry has made
remarkable achievements in improving its efficiency. But cost pressures continue, from record high
fuel prices to unjustified increases in charges from monopolistic airports, to further taxes imposed
by governments (industryspotlight.org.uk). Higher costs inevitably lead to higher prices for airline
passengers. Aviation is vital part of the United Kingdom. It is not only crucial in sponsoring almost
1 million jobs and ВЈ50 billion of GDP, providing around ВЈ8.7 billion in taxes to the Treasury of
the country, but aviation is also fundamental to the success of economic benefits from air transport
in the United Kingdom (Roberts Hughes, 2014). Aviation supports exports, services, manufacturing,
foreign direct investment and of course tourism. This sector gives us opportunity for the holidays
and visits of family and friend in different parts of a country and also around the world. ... Show

The external environment of an organization represents factors outside the company that affect the
company s ability to function. The business cannot control these aspects but can answer to these
changes if it needed. Of course the main problem for business managers is to manage to respond
early to these changes in the external environment, but this depends on how soon any change is
identified. Most of external environmental factors for example, economic conditions, are reported
daily in the media; managers have a wealth of information with the help of which they can develop
strategic plans. Nevertheless, some external factors are difficult to identify, especially when they
are changing very slowly or hidden from

Comparing Male and Female Mass Indexes
Method:
The experiment was conducted with the informed consent of all of the participants. These subjects
consisted of 34 males and 30 females all of which were in good health and aged between 18 and 36.
Confidentiality was of utmost importance and respected throughout the entire project. If any
potential subjects did not wish to participate then that was understood and they did not take part.
Another means of safeguarding the privacy of both groups (males and females) was to conduct the
measurements at different times. One session was for males only and another for only females.
The following measurements were taken body mass (kg), height (m), % body fat, 2nd digit (index
finger)(mm), 4th digit (ring finger)(mm), foot (cm), waist (cm), hip (cm), BMI and then the
differences between 2nd and 4th digits, waist to hip and height to foot sizes.
The body mass was taken using analogue scales, the height using a stadiometer, % body fat using
bio electrical impedance analysis monitor (with damp hands), 2nd and 4th digit (on the right hand)
and foot (right foot) size using an accurate ruler and finally the hip using a tape measure.
After the process had taken place of gathering all the required measurements we then carried out a
statistical analysis which included the mean averages, the standard deviation and finally the t test
using the primary data we had gathered. The software used was OpenOffice.org Calculator, this
software is very similar to that of Microsoft Excel.

Animal Assisted Therapy By Dr. Levinson
Animal assisted therapy was created in 1792 to help patients in mental asylums to be able to
interact with animals in peaceful environments and opportunities that otherwise they would not
see. This was created by Dr. Levinson when he first saw a dog and boy that he had been treating
interact with one another. This soon began to spread throughout the countries. It first arrived in
the U.S. in 1944 through 1945 at a Hospital north of New York City, the hospital called Pawling
army air force convalescent. The patients here interacted with farm animals such as horses and
chickens. But with many things it took a long time before any data from places like this was
collected. However it is becoming a more respected field among professionals ( Altschiller, D.
2011). It has been seen that pets can help calm people, lower blood pressure and they are great
for people or children that cannot or do not relate well to other people. Pets may help patients
recover from acute illness a study of patients following their discharge from the critical care unit
found that 11 out of 39 patients without pets died within the subsequent year, compared with only
three of 53 patients who had pets (Floyd, et al. 2003).There are many animals that can be used in

The Issue Of The Wild Tigers
From 100,000 to 3,500.
A hundred years ago, there where over 100,000 (Tigers) in the wild, with more than 40,000 in
India alone. Currently the total number of tigers worldwide is calculated at fewer than 3,500.
(Fraser) The population has dramatically dropped; the main reason is the healing powers of the tiger
bone. The beautiful and beneficial species for decades have been killed for their bones and skin.
There are many different tiger subspecies such as: Amur tiger, Bengal tiger, Siberian tiger,
Sumatran tigers and many more, unfortunately today there are only a few subspecies left. The high
demand for the bones and skins of tigers have not yet settled down, the black market continuously
hunts the unprotected animals. Although the issue is global, it has been unknowingly neglected
from the modern society. Many believe that the species are not endangered when they visit a zoo,
but the information states otherwise. The wild tigers are decreasing in numbers, and some predict
that in no time the species will be extinct. The lack of information one withholds, prevents them
from helping and improving the living conditions of wild tigers. In order to increase the population
of endangered tigers, we should use social media to raise awareness of the current extinction rate
and in correlation with the Government create a protection plan, regarding their territory and for
those who do harm the animals, will face serious consequences.
With the global summits that are hosted

Analysis Of Down These Mean Streets
Down These Mean Streets
Down These Mean Streets is novel written by Piri Thomas, he writes about his life as a child
growing up in New York during the 1930s. However, since his parents were Puerto Rican
immigrants he was doing very well in his new environment. He couldn t make any friends, since
the other kids made fun of him because of his race and his family didn t have a lot of money
since his parents were unable to find a job. He wrote this story as an autobiography to let all of the
readers know what he had to go through during his childhood.
Even though his parents were from Puerto Rico, Piri himself was born in the United States when his
parents moved there. He was born on September 20th, 1928 in East Harlem of New York City.
When he was growing up, his family lived in section of the city called Spanish Harlem where most
spanish speaking immigrants also lived. However, as he grew up there, he would eventually
realize that life was not very easy for people like him.
Spanish Harlem is a neighborhood in Upper Manhattan, despite its name, it is not actually a part of
Harlem. It is known as one of the largest Latino communities in New York, the residents there are
mostly Puerto Ricans but there are also people from the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and even
Mexico. Interestingly, the neighborhood was originally made up of Italians, but they pretty much
declined when the Spanish immigrated to America after the events of the First World War. Even

Advantages Of Rolling Bags For Nursing School
Best rolling bag for nursing students What are the best rolling bags for nursing students? To be
honest, nursing books are heavy and numerous. Although it might not be necessary to carry all
books along to school, there will surely be times when you must tote several of them at once.
Moreover, while on campus, you will probably do a lot of walking and it will not be easy toting
heavy books. Research shows, carrying heavy books in small back packs on a constant basis
can lead to long term back ache. I doubt if anyone will want to begin a nursing career with
prolong back pain issues. This unnecessary pain can simply be avoided by using the proper tote
bag. Although there are a lot of choices in tote bags for nursing student, not all bags are equal.
Thus, when purchasing a rolling bag for nursing school, functionality should be the first thing to
consider. You should ask yourself the following questions; will the bag hold a reasonable number
of books? is there enough space for other stuffs such as laptops, tablets and nursing materials? You
really need to consider these questions because most rolling bags available in the market do not
have enough space to hold laptops and tablets. In addition, you must check if there are side pockets
and areas of storage for extras such as keys, smartphones and water bottles. Another important
quality to watch out for is durability. Some more things to think about. Is the bag made of high
quality material that will serve you throughout

Dylan MaddenDr. Brian Henderson English 201 16 March 2017 Robopocolypse: Are Robots
peaceful or harmful? I.Introduction Noel Sharkey has warned us that the widespread availability
of service robots has resulted from several developments that allowed robots to become mobile,
interactive machines (Sharkey 358). Robots have become a necessity for people today rather
than just for science fiction or manufacturing processes, but lately we wonder whether or not if it
s safe to put our faith in the hands of cold machinery. Today, robots have been known to provide
care for our children and the perhaps even the elderly. They even provide service to our men in
combat. However, it doesn t change the fact that there are those who feel... Show more content on

2.1: Caring for Children? Sharkey explains the advantage points of his argument by explaining
how the Japanese and South Korean companies are creating child like robots that can be good
for video game playing, conducting verbal quiz game, speech recognition, face recognition, and
conversation (Sharkey 358). He describes how robots have the ability to provide alerts when
children move out of range. However, he brings up a crucial point in their programming on how
robots can t provide the proper care that human adults can give to their kids including: contact,
touch and caring from other humans. Though robots can provide safety, children may not have
contact with other humans for days, which according to Sharkey, can cause a psychological
impact of the varying degrees of social isolation (358). His claim was based on animal studies.
For example, during an experiment with monkeys, according to Sharkey, severe social
dysfunction occurs in infant animals that are allowed to develop attachments only to inanimate
surrogates (358). Like a child would do with a robot, the monkeys would grow too attached and
their behavior would likely change. People today need to realize that they need to reconsider the
idea of having robots care for their kids and start being the responsible ones. 2.2: Caring for
Elderly? To provide his argument on whether or not to entrust robots with the elderly, Sharkey uses
examples of robots like this, Secom, an automatic

Organisations and Behavior
(1.1) The organisational structure used in a company is intended to form relationships, motivate,
increase productivity, co ordinate and provide direction between employees. According to the
business dictionary (2013), an organisational structure is the hierarchical arrangement of lines of
authority, communications, rights, and duties of an organisation. It determines how roles, power
and responsibilities are assigned, controlled and coordinated and how information flows between
different levels of management. A structuredepends on the organisation s objectives and strategy.

Disadvantages to this structure: conflict between departments is common, it may be costly because
each division is considered its own entity, lack of communication between departments and it may
result in duplication of resources, as said in a management blog. The culture best associated with
this structure would be described as the role culture also known as Apollo. According to the BPP
learning media (2010) role culture refers to the classical, rational organisation bureaucracy. [pic]
Figure 1.1 Diagram showing the multidivisional structure. The traditional organisation structure,
conforming to what is said on Buzzle.com, is those types organisational structures that are based
on the functional divisions and departments. These kinds of structures follow the organisation s
rules and procedures; they are characterized by having precise authority lines for all levels of
management. This is a centralised degree of authority. Whereas the contemporary structure has a
wide span of control the traditional structure can be referred to as a tall organisation with a large
number of management hierarchies which leads to a narrow span of control. There is a strict
specialization of jobs unlike in the contemporary design where there is a jobless structure. ** The

Marie Antoinette s Influence On The French Revolution
In 1755, JosГЁphe Jeanne Marie Antoinette was born as the daughter of Empress Maria Theresa;
the sovereign who ruled the Hapsburg Lorraine House in Austria. As a princess and a member of
the Hapsburg dynasty, she inherited good looks which earned her a title of youthful goddess of
beauty and virtue upon her arrival in France. At her age of fourteen, her mother sent her off to
faraway France to married Dauphin, later known as Louis XVI, in order to secure a diplomatic
alliance through marriage with France, a former enemy of Austria. Initially, Marie Antoinettehad
charmed the French people with her delicate looks; however, as she became the queen, slanderous
accusations piled continuously which eventually damaged her reputation and led to her death. Why
the French people hated Marie Antoinette so much and what are the sinful things she did in order
to earn their wrath? From the existing pamphlets published before the French Revolutionup to
Coppola s film Marie Antoinette, the press demonized the once adored lady into a highly
lascivious whore. Marie Antoinette s sexual abuse were caused by the public perception as a
sexualized body, a hidden fear towards all publicly active women and the potential power of their
bodies, in which they use their sexual advantages toward men to gain an access to political power.
First, the queen was an unwelcome guest in French people s eyes. Marie Antoinette was treated as
a scapegoat due to her gender and the French people s fear of

How The Mabo decision changed Aboriginal Rights and Freedoms for the Better?
On June 3rd 1992 The Mabo decision changed lives of Aboriginals all around Australia. It was the
first time that Aboriginals where acknowledged as the traditional owners of the land, and their
customs and traditions recognised. It also made improvement between the relationship of
Aboriginals and Non aboriginal people. The Mabo decision also led to the declaration of the

The Mabo decision challenged the Australian Legal system and fought for recognition of
Aboriginals and Torres Strait islandersbeing the traditional owners of the land. The Mabo
decision was a 10 year case and on the 3rd of June 1992 the High Court declared that the term terra

The decision saw that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People have rights to the land, rights
that existed before the British settlement took place. This decision acknowledged the Aboriginals
and Torres Strait Islander Peoples unique connection with the land and acknowledged their
traditions and customs. Evidence that support this is Source 1, a newspaper article from The Age

The Revolutionary Suffragette Movement
Feminism is one of the most commonly misinterpreted terms in today s society. By definition,
feminism is the advocacy of women s rights on the grounds of gender equality, which in this day
and age, seems a reasonable thing to expect from society. However, when the concept of feminism
first became a growingly popular concept in the 18th century, feminismwas an extremely
controversial idea, met with disapproval and trepidation. Most people were frightened to break
away from their social traditions and allow the importance and validity of women to be recognised,
and so sparked the revolutionary Suffragette movement. This paper will aim to bring a greater
understanding of the controversial uprising, and to bring awareness as to how it won women the
right to vote and how it continues to change the world for the better.
Women have always had a history with oppression and gender role. Traditionally, the female
stereotype was to marry young to bear children of the next generation. She was to be completely
submissive to her husband; she had to maintain a welcoming home, she had to completely care for
their children. Children of which she didn t even have rights to if her husband died. Domestic

The Influence Of Brunelleschi s Dome In Florence
In my studies, I decided to research Brunelleschi s Dome in Florence, Italy, its beginning and
inspiration, and how it was constructed. I was amazed by the building of this structure and how
the idea of such a structure came about. It all started in 1418 when the Florentine Fathers noticed
that their Cathedral had been an open to the sky throughout its existence. They decided to cover
this big hole but had no idea how to do it. They were inspired by the Parthenon and its
infrastructure, and wanted to build a dome to represent their power and spiritual aspiration. They
didn t know if their cathedral could hold the weight of a dome (since the Parthenon was made of
concrete), and it it would have to have major support. None of them knew where to start, so they

much convincing, the Florentine Fathers gave Brunelleschi a chance to prove his ideas. His plan
was this: He wanted to construct two domes, one within another. This would be done to minimize
the scaffolding and the weight distribution. He would then support the inner dome and with
bindings (much like a wooden barrel has) around using metal, stone and wood. After, to minimize
the weight of the dome, he would then use more porous rock (like volcanic rock) after building
for 46 feet. His plan required no timber scaffolding, and no supports that would be based inside the

Essay on Major Slave Rebellions of the South
Major Slave Rebellions of the South
Slavery in North America began with the Portuguese in the seventeenth century. Increasing and
spreading significantly, slavery eventually became an economic staple in the southern region of
America. Although widespread and popular, rebellion against this human bondage was inevitable.
Slaves in the south rebelled and revolted against their owners many times; however, these efforts
were often suppressed. Although most revolts ended in failure, some did impact the feelings of
slavemasters, and unfortunately, worsened their living conditions. Throughout American history,
the most notable and significant slave rebellions in the south were The Stono Rebellion, The Vesey

In the early 18th century, South Carolina experienced a boom in their rice industry. This caused
a shift from a frontier to a plantation economy, affecting the quality of life of slaves. Their tasks
switched from farming, hunting, fishing, and raising cattle, to being trapped in the rice fields.
The slaves felt much resent for this extremely difficult, straining work. In the 1730s, there was
an outbreak of many slave conspiracies in the West Indies, especially in the Bahamas and
Antigua. Furthermore, many runaway slaves from South Carolina had made their way down to
Florida, where Spain offered them freedom. This inspired slaves to fight for their freedom. As a
result of the Stono Rebellion, slaveowners came to fear their slaves and the threat of future
uprisings. Because of this fear, The Slave Code of South Carolina of 1740 was created. This code
greatly limited rights of the slaves living in the region.
The Vesey Slave rebellion was planned by Denmark Vesey, and although it was never
accomplished, its effects were felt across the southern region of the country. Vesey bought his
freedom after winning a lottery, then became an advocate for equality, inspiring slaves all over
Charleston, South Carolina. He organized a group to carry out his plan to steal ammunition from

The Use of Electroconvulsive Therapy in Patients with Severe Depression or Schizophrenia In
surveys, individuals with both a history of severe depression and a history of physical trauma due
to an accident ranked the pain of mental illness as much worse than that of physical trauma (Isaac

suicide rate of patients suffering from depression was estimated at fifteen percent. This is a
testament to the fact that mental illnesses such as depression and schizophrenia are serious issues,
and those suffering from them deserve the most effective treatment available. Many psychiatrists

The origin of these skeptical and fearful preconceptions is the imperfect history of the practice. The
most primitive forms of electroconvulsive therapy began in the 1930s, with the injection of various
chemicals into mental health patients, inducing seizures. The first published reports of such
treatments came from Ladislas Meduna, a Hungarian neuropsychiatrist whose experiments sparked
the interest of clinicians worldwide (Fink, Electroconvulsive 1). The first account of actual
electroconvulsive therapy was in 1938 in Italy; neurologist Ugo Cerletti, and his assistant Lucio
Bini, applied electrodes on both temples of the patient, and passed electricity through the brain,
causing the patient to have a seizure (Fink, Electroconvulsive 2). The earliest ECT procedures were
administered without anesthesia or muscle relaxants, and the seizures it induced were brutal, often
resulting in fractures and severe memory loss. However, the success of this experimentation
outweighed the trepidation it created, and the use of ECT progressed, using Cerletti s studies as a
foundation and orienting around the use of electric currents instead of chemicals. Despite its

Informative Essay On Fireworks Research Paper
4th of July. A day that has history for us Americans. This is the day that the thirteen colonies
gained independence from England in 1776. Becoming a national holiday called Independence
Day, it is now widely celebrated across the country. Celebrated with red, white, and blue.
Celebrated with parades covering the streets. Celebrated with the one explosive necessity to make
the holiday PERFECT. What would this necessity be? Fireworks, of course! They are a large part
of not only Independence day, but many other holidays around the world. Today we will launch
into the origins of fireworks, then we will soar through the mechanics of fireworks, and finally,
explode into the use of fireworks around the world today. The origin of fireworks can... Show more

And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air is one of the lines that introduce the high
notes of the song. This is an important section of the National Anthem because it signifies the
rockets and bombs that Francis Scott Key experienced that he used as inspiration to write the
Star Spangled Banner. Another well known song that incorporates fireworks is the pop song by
Katy Perry, Firework. While this song mentions actual fireworks, the meaning behind the catchy
tune isn t so concrete. What this song is all about is empowering yourself and to be the best you
can be. This is portrayed by the chorus when it hums Baby, you re a firework, Come on, let your
colours burst, Make em go, Aah, aah, aah , You re gonna leave em all in awe, awe,

Nelson on Descartes s Theory of Perception and Judgment
Nelson on Descartes?s Theory of Perception and Judgment
ABSTRACT: One tension in Descartes?s account of human error stems from the idea that we may
be faulted for our acts of will, despite the fact that God is our omnipotent and omniscient creator. In
the present essay, I describe a second tension in Descartes?s account of human error. After
describing the tension, I consider Alan Nelson?s characterization of the means by which
Descartes?s intended to relieve it. Although Nelson s interpretation is almost correct, I think that it
obscures some of the interesting details of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment. These
details are revealed by the taxonomy of sensory responses that Descartes articulates in the Sixth Set
of Replies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In cases of false perceptual judgment, is it not the faculty of intellect that so seductively offers up
false propositions whose subject matter so clearly concerns our environs? As Descartes himself
concedes, the objects of perception include the ideas of size, shape, and motion, and of other
properties that are referred to objects outside of the mind.2 If the will and intellect, respectively,
contribute the neustic and phrastic components of judgment, then it appears that the intellect (and
hence God) is blameworthy in cases of erroneous perceptual judgment.
II.
In his paper, Descartes?s Ontology of Thought, Alan Nelson attempts to give an interpretation of
Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment that extricates Descartes from the tension associated
with explaining human error.3 On Nelson?s interpretation, Descartes maintained that false
perceptual judgments are ultimately the result of confused ideas, which have their origin in past
determinations of the will. In turn, Nelson supposes that confused sensory ideas can subsequently
come to be the customary result of the impact of external objects, and thereby result in the
spontaneous dispensing of false propositions by the intellect.
Nelson?s interpretation has a lot going for it. First, it appears to relieve the apparent tension in
Descartes?s account of error. Indeed, by characterizing false perceptual judgment as the result of
confused ideas and tracing the source

Extinction Of Dinosaurs Research Paper
The extinction of the dinosaurs has caused great controversy all over the world. There are many
theories of how they were killed, such as; an asteroid impact, volcanic activity, climate change,
and eggs that took too long to hatch. Their extinction allowed humans to rule the Earth in their
place. One of the most widely accepted theories is the asteroid. In section 5, Death of the
Dinosaurs , of a book written by Donald Prothero, he states that, By 1990, the debate was no
longer whether the impact occurred that was clearly established (Prothero). An article in TIME
magazine states that, About 66 million years ago, a six mile wide (10 km) asteroid struck the
coastline of the Yucatan peninsula (Kluger). This theory was created in 1978... Show more content

An article from Florida State University states that, Groundbreaking research led by a Florida State
University professor establishes a timeline of anywhere from three to six months depending on the
dinosaur (How). For a long time, scientists thought that it took 11 85 days for a dinosaur egg to
hatch. They thought this because it is similar to the birds incubation time, and birds are very
similar to the dinosaurs. Gregory Erickson, the Professor of Biological Science at Florida State
University, discovered that it actually takes three to six months for the eggs to hatch.
Erickson and his team of researchers first found dinosaur embryo fossils. The article ,released by
Florida State University, says, Erickson and his team ran the embryonic jaws through a CT scanner
to visualize the forming dentition. Then, they extracted several of the teeth to further examine them
under sophisticated microscope (How). The teeth gave the team evidence of how long the
dinosaurs were developing. The same article states that, Growth lines on the teeth showed
researchers precisely how long the dinosaurs had been growing in the eggs

The Impacts of Anthropogenic Greenhouse and Trace Gas Emissions on the Ocean
By: Lexie Herdt, Meredith Fish, and Samantha Ballard
Meteo 470: Video Research Project
12/15/14
Introduction:
Anthropogenic emissions of CO2 and other trace gases affect the atmosphere, ocean, biosphere and
cryosphere (IPCC, 2014). These components of the climate system stimulate interactions between
each other ranging from synoptic to microscale processes and including everything in between.
Since the industrial revolution, human produced emissions have been changing the world around
us (IPCC, 2014). The phenomenon of having greenhouse gases and aerosols in the atmosphere is
natural and necessary to support life on Earth. However, the buildup of greenhouse gases ... Show

This research is intended to further the understanding of how the Earth s climate will be affected
with rising anthropogenic emissions.
Each of the world s countries contributes different amounts of both gas and particle emissions to the
atmosphere influencing changes in weather and climate on a daily basis. The main anthropogenic
emissions in the climate system are Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4), Nitrous Oxide (N2O)
and Aerosols, each consisting of a different atmospheric lifetime. Since the United States endorses
open access to scientific data, tools and resources to conduct research, it is more beneficial to
analyze the anthropogenic emission sources of the United States over other industrialized countries
whose data is not so freely available to the public (Auer et al., 2007). The United States is the
second highest emitter or polluter in the world. The burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and
transportation produces most of the United States emissions. Due to the country s dependence on
fossil fuels, the United States emission footprint is expanding. With a growing population and an
expanding economy, the United States is urbanizing at an expansive rate. The increase in
population as well as the modernization of our world is causing Americans to increase their energy
consumption through increased transportation and the development of new cities. All in

The Conflict Theory Of Homelessness
Homelessness is the condition of people without a permanent place to live, such as a house.
People who are homeless are unable to acquire and maintain regular, safe, secure housing. It has
been a problem for a long time but it has become a social issue from the past few decades. People
think about homelessness as one s personal problem and seek them to face it. Moreover, the
majority of the people think that the only reason behind being homelessnessis their choice and just
laziness to do any work and lead to a better life. But that s just one incomplete perception about the
homelessness.
There are many reasons behind the homelessness of the people such as unemployment, poverty,
lack of resources, mental sickness, physically injured, addiction issues and a lot more then these. It
has many effects on the person without a place to stay. The important of all is that their health is
completely comprised as they have been living in unhygienic environment which can lead to a lot
of health issues in the future for them. Homeless individuals are more prone to diseases, such as
cardio respiratory diseases, skin diseases, and tuberculosis. However, people think that
homelessness of a person does not affect them in any way. But that s completely ... Show more

Under Karl Marx s conflict theory, society has two classes of people: the owners and the
workers. The theory suggests that owners basically exploit the workers, depriving them of the
basic human necessities such as food and shelter. Meanwhile, the workers believe that they are
taken care of adequately, and they rely on the owners for their well being. But the owners do not
have the workers best interests in mind because they want to produce wealth by any means. Potent
social forces [capitalism, patriarchy, imperialism, home ownership] do exist and being homeless is
to lose a stake in several of them (Neale, 2007,

  • 6. Sleeping Disorders Research Paper There are many different types of sleeping disorders that may affect the way you sleep at night and act during the day. A sleeping disorder is a change in your sleep cycle or a quirk that can negatively affect your health. They prevent you from getting a good night s sleep. Although they sound harsh, most sleeping disorders can be treated or can improve with treatment. According to scientists, there are roughly 80 types of sleeping disorders. Four of the most common ones are: insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. Insomnia is separated into 3 different types: transient, acute, and chronic. Transient insomnia occurs when your symptoms last for only a couple of days. Acute, or short term insomnia, occurs when your symptoms last for a few weeks. Chronic insomnia is the type of insomnia that may last for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sleep apnea is a disorder in which your breathing is interrupted during sleep. There are two separate forms of sleep apnea, one is obstructive and the other is central. Obstructive sleep apnea is when the tissue in your throat collapses and blocks your airway, and central sleep apnea is when your brain doesn t signal your muscles to breathe. This disorder can be caused if you: smoke, are an overweight male, have high blood pressure, or have a neck circumference larger than 15.75 inches. A few of the symptoms of sleep apnea are: extremely loud snoring, choking during sleep, shortness of breath, daytime fatigue, waking up with a sore throat, or using the restroom a lot at night. Sleep apnea can be treated with a machine called the CPAP device. The CPAP device is a mask machine that provides a stream of air through your nose and mouth. This device keeps your airways clear at all times, while you sleep. Another way to treat it is by having a tonsillectomy or an adenoid removal. Nearly 22 million Americans suffer from sleep apnea and the majority don t even know ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Ban And Monitoring Of Internet Browsing And Surfing Assignment on Ban and monitoring of internet browsing and surfing By XxX Dated Ban and monitoring of internet browsing and surfing There is a continuous monitoring over the Internet in the United States. This is the potential and propositional controversy over the privacy rights. This law is stated as the invasion of privacy, and it can be observed that this regulation is placed upon us for the context of limitation and a ban on certain websites. This is truly an example of a nanny state where one is being observed and is not free to surf and browse the internet (Broache, 2016). This primarily discusses the benefits of this law and the constraints and downsides of this law. Thus, this article delimits the potential of control over the internet for the so called Safe Secure browsing. The control over the internet has been the long standing ambition of the government, and the public has always restrained themselves from it. It can be understood that the potential and the positional benefits of this is limitless. Corporates tend to provide a more customized experience, whereas Governments wish to stay alerted from the activities that are present, it can be seen that the potential and the common objective is awareness (Stanley Steinhardt, 2003). This becomes a nanny state as the government makes amends and tends tries to monitor all the activities of its citizens. This effects the citizens and the nation in a twofold manner, it effects the government in a manner ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bengal was probably the wealthiest part of the subcontinent up till the 16th century. The area s early history featured a succession of Indian empires, internal squabbling, and a tussle between Hinduism and Buddhism for dominance. All of this was just a prelude to the unstoppable tide of Islam which washed over northern India at the end of the 12th century. Mohammed Bakhtiar Khalzhi from Turkistan captured Bengal in 1199 with only 20 men. That was just the beginning. The journey of Bangladesh goes on. Management of Diversity in Organization Management of Diversity in Organization Abstract Organizations have been becoming increasingly diverse in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, and nationality. This diversity brings substantial potential benefits such as better decision making, greater creativity and innovation, and more successful marketing to different types of customers. But, increasing cultural differences within a workforce also bring potential costs in higher turnovers, interpersonal conflicts, and communicational breakdowns. The utilities of diversity training and the essential managerial skills required for effectively managing diversity will also be discussed. Diversity Management vs. Organizational Performance Diversity of skills among individual members will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research tends to support this relationship. Kanter s study of innovation in organizations revealed that the most innovative companies deliberately establish heterogeneous teams to create a marketplace of ideas, recognizing that a multiplicity of points of view needs to be brought to bear on a problem . Kanter also specifically noted that companies high on innovation had done a better job than most on eradicating racism, sexism, and classism, in addition, tended to employ more women and racioethnic minorities than less innovative companies. Research by Charlene J. Nemeth found that minority views can stimulate consideration of non obvious alternatives in task groups. Nemeth found that the minority groups adopted multiple strategies and identified more solutions than the majority groups. She concluded that the groups exposed to minority views were more creative than the more homogeneous, majority groups. She further concluded that persistent exposure to minority viewpoints stimulates creative thought processes. Another experiment compared the creativity of teams that were homogeneous on a series of attitude measures against teams with heterogeneous attitudes. Problem solution creativity was judged on originality and practicality. Results indicated that as long as the team members had similar ability levels, the heterogeneous teams were more creative than the homogeneous ones. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Picture Of Dorian Gray, Against Nature, And The Yellow True Decadence It is vague, underrated, barely recognized, and yet it seems to have embedded itself into movies, TV, video games, and most of all, literature. Decadence literally means the moral decaying of society and has been a theme utilized in both writing and our modern media for decades, even if it was not directly intended to be so. Literary works that helped establish this tendency include The Picture of Dorian Gray, Against Nature, and The Yellow Book. Delving into the subject, it is easy to conclude that such a theme is meant to present unconventional and sometimes controversial ideas in a an overly romanticized way and express the author s perspective of such ideas that may influence the reader into seeing the value, if any, ... One thing every girl should know is that as all their bodily changes take place, most girls begin to get more body fat, which makes them curvier in shape. This is not just a case of getting fat , but rather becoming more womanly in shape. At some point most girls begin to worry that they are putting on weight and start to compare themselves to models in magazines. What are the causes? The disease usually begins in young people around the time of puberty. The causes for this disease are still not known. Some people think that if they are thinner they will be more happy and successful. Some times the causes of anorexia can be from a painful childhood, sexual abuse, physical abuse, domineering coaches and controlling relationships and they are punishing themselves because of it. Domineering coaches are a reason for anorexia because for example Ballet, you have to be slim and petite, for obvious reasons. • 12. Comparing After You And Everything Happens For A Reason The novel After You by Jojo Moyes and poem Everything Happens for a Reason by Katie both contain a similar message that moving on from the death of a loved one is difficult initially, but as time progresses the pain will ease. First, one similarity the novel and poem both share examples of the initial pain after a loved one has passed away. After Will s death, Louisa goes on the roof while drunk and yells out to the heavens: You didn t give me a bloody life, did you? Not really. You just smashed up my old one. Smashed it into little pieces. What am I meant to do with what s left? (Moyes 7). Much like Louisa, the speaker in Everything Happens for a Reason ponders why did you have to go/you left me in a wreck (Katie 4 5). • 13. Investigating Cableways And Design An Efficient Vertical... Summary To investigate cableways and design an efficient vertical transportation system for goods, in the hilltop communities of Nepal. My research established an understanding of existing cableway technology and explored a practical engineering improvement for adaptation in developing countries. I identified that engineering, a topic of personal interest, should be the field of research considered. A discussion with university students was completed to find a specific issue that I could investigate. One topic suggested for investigation from the EngineersWithoutBorders Challenge, inspired the research question. The outcome format, a report, discussed my key findings and recommendations including; the nature of cableways, influence of local topography, and constraints of existing technology. The majority of my secondary sources were reports written by academics or aid organisations, found on the web. Emailed questionnaires and personal interviews provided critical information and practical critique of the design outcome. Analysis of findings combined with creative thinking enabled a resolution of the research question. This was presented in the form of a proposed design at the conclusion of the outcome report. Evaluation Evaluation of Research Processes Interviews Primary information was obtained by conducting interviews. I underestimated how effective this process would be until I conducted one. • 14. Thucydides Historical Technique Essay Thucydides Historical Technique Thucydides has often been described as one of the fathers of history, and possibly the first historian that can be used with any real historical accuracy. His objectivity and lack of digressive storytelling mark him out from previous historians such as Herodotus, and Thucydides began a new era of historical writing. Although named the father of history, Herodotus wrote in a literary style, rather than the accurate telling of the facts and objective analysis that Thucydides offers us in his History of the Peloponnesian War. Herodotus tended to digress with irrelevant storytelling, whereas Thucydides abandoned this technique, and adopted a method that greatly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His exile may also have been a blessing in disguise, for it allowed him to become somewhat detached from the Athenian side, and allowed him to write a more useful and balanced history. I think that this can be seen when he is describing the opening stages of the war. Corinth and Corcyra are the two countries who appear to spark off the war. Once war broke out, Corinth became allied with Sparta, and Corcyra became an ally of Athens following a debate over Corcyra[3]. As well as being an Athenian Thucydides clearly sees Corcyra as being the aggressor, and describes the way that Corcyra disrespected its mother city state. (Apparently, Corcyra did not give Corinth the usual respect and rights due to a founding city, and in fact Corcyra claimed that it was superior to Corinth in a number of ways.) …and at the same time they [the Corinthians] hated the Corcyraeans because they failed to show to Corinth the respect due from a colony to the mother city. Thucydides shows from the opening lines of his history that it was his vocation to records the events, and therefore remained unbiased by events throughout the war, and concentrates rather on recording the events, and including some of his own analysis. Thucydides later became a general for the Athenians, and was unfortunate to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Periodic Trends Are Specific Patterns That Are Present Periodic trends are specific patterns that are present in the periodic table they illustrate different aspects of a certain element, including its size and its properties. Major periodic trends include: Electronegativity Ionization energy Electron affinity Atomic radius Melting point Metallic character Periodic trends, arising from the arrangement of the periodic table, provide chemists and scientists with a helpful tool to quickly predict an element s properties. These trends exist because of the similar atomic structure of the elements within their respective group families or periods, and because of the periodic nature of the elements. Electronegativity Trends The definition of electronegativity is how strongly an atom can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the left hand side of the periodic table the elements have a half full valance shell, so meaning that it is a higher energy level to gain electrons to fill that valance shell compared to less energy to lose the electrons to complete the valance shell. Element on the left side usually lose electrons to form a bond. Therefor elements on the right side are more energy efficient in gaining a set of electrons to fill the valance shell. In a periodic table from left to right across a period, electronegativity increases. If the valance shell is less than half full the atom loses electrons to balance out and the opposite if the atom has a valance shell over half full. In a group from top to bottom electronegativity decreases. There is an important exception noble gases, lanthanides, and actinides do not have electronegativity principles, this is because they have a full valance shell so they do not usually attract electrons. And as for transition metals, even though they have electronegativity values, they are little different going up and down a group and going across a period. This is because of the transition metals, metallic properties which affect their ability to attract electrons. Visual Representation Is Our Cultural Dictator Visual representation is our cultural dictator, the general sense of the word is the description or portrayal of someone or something in a particular way (Oxford Dictionaries., 2014). In terms of design it s the depiction of someone or something in a work of art (Oxford Dictionaries., 2014). Representation is constructed of social values; it influences status, class and politics. The circuit of culture (Hall, S., 1997, p.1) is the system in which society operates; it includes identity, production, consumption, regulation and representation. To understand this circuit, we must understand the substances of culture, It s said to embody the best that has been thought and said in a society. It is the sum of great ideas, as represented in the classic works of literature, painting, music and philosophy the high culture of an age. (Hall, S., 1997 p.2) Fuelling 21st century culture is the economics and marketing of the first world. The desire to consume is the notion of creating a persona through visual identity. Representation in the physical sense is presenting oneself , (Williams, R. 1978, p.266) it s realised that consumption is complicated because it s dictated by individual taste. Nevertheless, I was going to Belize! Our school organized a trip of which seniors, who were a part of the Environmental Science course, could go on an eight day adventure in the vast jungles of Belize and explore the party island itself San Pedro. While the other four students (five total including myself) had trouble departing the school along with their loved ones, there was me who was impatiently waiting and eagerly ready to go. I mean come on, it was just eight days in a foreign country without cell service; however, that was the adrenaline speaking. Before I knew it, we arrived at LAX. I felt my stomach begin to knot as we were boarding the plane. Having extreme motion sickness wasn t the best trait to have at that time. However, I endured the nausea and managed the aches knowing there was a new world ahead of me. Entering Belize, the amount of green I saw was immeasurable. And better yet, the colored people were just as abundant. I could already tell that this trip would be one for the books and what a big book that would turn out to be. We were immediately greeted by our tour guide Manuel, whose humor and benevolence carried us through our trips entirety, and created for each of us timeless and precious memories. There are several testing methods that have been proven reliable and easily pass general acceptance and scientific validity tests. This is causes number of Daubert cases questioning DNA to decline. In most cases, the tests that are used are well established and do not require a separate hearing (Hails, 160) Once it is established the testing method used passes the Daubert test, the court must determine admissibility based on the Fourth Amendment. Goal Setting Theory Theory Description Goal setting theory developed in the 1960s and 1970s by Gary Latham and Edwin Locke promotes the notion that if a manager provides an employee with specific, challenging goals the worker tended to outperform a worker assigned a vague, non specific goal such as do the best you can. This theory relies on the manager s awareness of the skill level and abilities of all employees (Borkowski, 2005). Robots have become a necessity for people today rather than just for science fiction or manufacturing processes, but lately we wonder whether or not if it s safe to put our faith in the hands of cold machinery. Sharkey explains the advantage points of his argument by explaining how the Japanese and South Korean companies are creating child like robots that can be good for video game playing, conducting verbal quiz game, speech recognition, face recognition, and conversation (Sharkey 358). He describes how robots have the ability to provide alerts when children move out of range. However, he brings up a crucial point in their programming on how robots can t provide the proper care that human adults can give to their kids including: contact, touch and caring from other humans. Though robots can provide safety, children may not have contact with other humans for days, which according to Sharkey, can cause a psychological impact of the varying degrees of social isolation (358). His claim was based on animal studies. For example, during an experiment with monkeys, according to Sharkey, severe social dysfunction occurs in infant animals that are allowed to develop attachments only to inanimate surrogates (358). Like a child would do with a robot, the monkeys would grow too attached and their behavior would likely change. People today need to realize that they need to reconsider the idea of having robots care for their kids and start being the responsible ones. 2.2: Caring for Elderly? However, when the concept of feminism first became a growingly popular concept in the 18th century, feminismwas an extremely controversial idea, met with disapproval and trepidation. Most people were frightened to break away from their social traditions and allow the importance and validity of women to be recognised, and so sparked the revolutionary Suffragette movement. This paper will aim to bring a greater understanding of the controversial uprising, and to bring awareness as to how it won women the right to vote and how it continues to change the world for the better. Women have always had a history with oppression and gender role. Traditionally, the female stereotype was to marry young to bear children of the next generation. She was to be completely submissive to her husband; she had to maintain a welcoming home, she had to completely care for their children. Children of which she didn t even have rights to if her husband died. Domestic duties were her entire world and her sole purpose was to make her husband s life as ... I was amazed by the building of this structure and how the idea of such a structure came about. It all started in 1418 when the Florentine Fathers noticed that their Cathedral had been an open to the sky throughout its existence. They decided to cover this big hole but had no idea how to do it. They were inspired by the Parthenon and its infrastructure, and wanted to build a dome to represent their power and spiritual aspiration. They didn t know if their cathedral could hold the weight of a dome (since the Parthenon was made of concrete), and it it would have to have major support. Brunelleschi was a hot head and knew he was a genius. His pride badly influenced the judge s impression of him and his plan. The competition grew tedious, but Brunelleschi was persistent and knew his idea would work. He was known for being a genius, because As a boy, during his goldsmith s apprenticeship, he had mastered drawing and painting, wood carving, sculpture in silver and bronze, stone setting, niello, and enamel work (Mueller, 2014). With much consent, and much convincing, the Florentine Fathers gave Brunelleschi a chance to prove his ideas. His plan was this: He wanted to construct two domes, one within another. This would be done to minimize the scaffolding and the weight distribution. He would then support the inner dome and with bindings (much like a wooden barrel has) around using metal, stone and wood. After, to minimize the weight of the dome, he would then use more porous rock (like volcanic rock) after building for 46 feet. His plan required no timber scaffolding, and no supports that would be based inside the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Increasing and spreading significantly, slavery eventually became an economic staple in the southern region of America. Although widespread and popular, rebellion against this human bondage was inevitable. Slaves in the south rebelled and revolted against their owners many times; however, these efforts were often suppressed. Although most revolts ended in failure, some did impact the feelings of slavemasters, and unfortunately, worsened their living conditions. This caused a shift from a frontier to a plantation economy, affecting the quality of life of slaves. Their tasks switched from farming, hunting, fishing, and raising cattle, to being trapped in the rice fields. The slaves felt much resent for this extremely difficult, straining work. In the 1730s, there was an outbreak of many slave conspiracies in the West Indies, especially in the Bahamas and Antigua. Furthermore, many runaway slaves from South Carolina had made their way down to Florida, where Spain offered them freedom. This inspired slaves to fight for their freedom. As a result of the Stono Rebellion, slaveowners came to fear their slaves and the threat of future uprisings. Because of this fear, The Slave Code of South Carolina of 1740 was created. This code greatly limited rights of the slaves living in the region. The Vesey Slave rebellion was planned by Denmark Vesey, and although it was never accomplished, its effects were felt across the southern region of the country. Vesey bought his freedom after winning a lottery, then became an advocate for equality, inspiring slaves all over Charleston, South Carolina. The Use of Electroconvulsive Therapy in Patients with Severe Depression or Schizophrenia In surveys, individuals with both a history of severe depression and a history of physical trauma due to an accident ranked the pain of mental illness as much worse than that of physical trauma (Isaac 5). Mental illnesses cause immense suffering and potentially even death; in the year 2000, the suicide rate of patients suffering from depression was estimated at fifteen percent. This is a testament to the fact that mental illnesses such as depression and schizophrenia are serious issues, and those suffering from them deserve the most effective treatment available. The origin of these skeptical and fearful preconceptions is the imperfect history of the practice. The most primitive forms of electroconvulsive therapy began in the 1930s, with the injection of various chemicals into mental health patients, inducing seizures. The first published reports of such treatments came from Ladislas Meduna, a Hungarian neuropsychiatrist whose experiments sparked the interest of clinicians worldwide (Fink, Electroconvulsive 1). The first account of actual electroconvulsive therapy was in 1938 in Italy; neurologist Ugo Cerletti, and his assistant Lucio Bini, applied electrodes on both temples of the patient, and passed electricity through the brain, causing the patient to have a seizure (Fink, Electroconvulsive 2). The earliest ECT procedures were administered without anesthesia or muscle relaxants, and the seizures it induced were brutal, often resulting in fractures and severe memory loss. However, the success of this experimentation outweighed the trepidation it created, and the use of ECT progressed, using Cerletti s studies as a foundation and orienting around the use of electric currents instead of chemicals. Despite its growing popularity and usage, through the 1950s, the procedure was administered recklessly, still lacking the use of anesthetics or muscle relaxants, and intensifying negative effects with implementation of a higher, more dangerous level of electrical current (Electroconvulsive Mayo 4 5). Nelson on Descartes s Theory of Perception and Judgment Nelson on Descartes?s Theory of Perception and Judgment ABSTRACT: One tension in Descartes?s account of human error stems from the idea that we may be faulted for our acts of will, despite the fact that God is our omnipotent and omniscient creator. In the present essay, I describe a second tension in Descartes?s account of human error. After describing the tension, I consider Alan Nelson?s characterization of the means by which Descartes?s intended to relieve it. Although Nelson s interpretation is almost correct, I think that it obscures some of the interesting details of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment. These details are revealed by the taxonomy of sensory responses that Descartes articulates in the Sixth Set of Replies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In cases of false perceptual judgment, is it not the faculty of intellect that so seductively offers up false propositions whose subject matter so clearly concerns our environs? As Descartes himself concedes, the objects of perception include the ideas of size, shape, and motion, and of other properties that are referred to objects outside of the mind.2 If the will and intellect, respectively, contribute the neustic and phrastic components of judgment, then it appears that the intellect (and hence God) is blameworthy in cases of erroneous perceptual judgment. II. In his paper, Descartes?s Ontology of Thought, Alan Nelson attempts to give an interpretation of Descartes?s theory of perception and judgment that extricates Descartes from the tension associated with explaining human error.3 On Nelson?s interpretation, Descartes maintained that false perceptual judgments are ultimately the result of confused ideas, which have their origin in past determinations of the will. In turn, Nelson supposes that confused sensory ideas can subsequently come to be the customary result of the impact of external objects, and thereby result in the spontaneous dispensing of false propositions by the intellect. Nelson?s interpretation has a lot going for it. First, it appears to relieve the apparent tension in Descartes?s account of error. Since the United States endorses open access to scientific data, tools and resources to conduct research, it is more beneficial to analyze the anthropogenic emission sources of the United States over other industrialized countries whose data is not so freely available to the public (Auer et al., 2007). The United States is the second highest emitter or polluter in the world. The burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, and transportation produces most of the United States emissions.
