The search giant Google has gone back to its roots with the launch of a new technology – “Google Knowledge Graph”. The technology, launched on May 16, leverages the idea of a “semantic Web” focused entirely on user experience. Now when users input a search query on Google, relevant and related information about that query will be provided in a box to the right of the results page. The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.

• They launched TxtAlert, a mobile tool that sends unique, automated SMS reminders
to patients on chronic-illness medication. The SMS reminders are used to reminds
patients to take their medication or perform other necessary tasks.
• A special tool called “Please Call Me” allows patients to call their doctors even if they
don’t have any airtime available by pinging their doctor, who then calls back.
• Young Africa Live is a digital forum where African youths can share stories and get
information about HIV and AIDS. It also has helpful numbers and contact details for
HIV- and AIDS-related organizations. The goal is to de-stigmatize the diseases while
also providing clear facts and support groups for African youths. The portal also
features live chats with doctors and relationship experts.

• Health eVillages was launched to arm doctors in under-served regions with

clinical staff an estimated 1,200 hours follow-up time and more than $3,000 in fuel and
transportation costs. In addition, more than 100 patients received treatment for TB
after their symptoms were noticed by the community and reported by text message.

• Text to Change, a Dutch non-profit organization, runs a series of four-week education
programs that use SMS messaging.
• Each program starts with an announcement SMS message that encourages mobile
phone users to participate in a free-of-charge questionnaire. Mobile phone users are
told that they would win prizes as an incentive.
• Participants are then sent multiple-choice quiz questions in the form of SMS
messages. If participants answer a question correctly, they will receive additional
information about the topic. If their answer is wrong, they will receive the correct
answer with an explanation.
• During the program, Text to Change encourages people to visit partner HIV test
centers and clinics.
• Text to Change ran a pilot in Mbarara, Uganda, to test this initiative in February 2008.
From February 14, 2008, until April 8, 2008, there were 15,000 Celtel (now ZAIN)
mobile phone users targeted in the Greater Mbarara region. During this time 2,610
(17.4%) people responded to one or more SMS question.
