The Past Simple
We use Past Simple to talk about:
* Completed states or actions in the past.
(The action started and finished in the past)
* Repeated or habitual actions in the past.
Eg. We moved to Chicago in 1999. (completed)
I ate a lot of peaches when I was at school.
(repeated)

The Past Simple Formulas
The affirmative sentence:
(+) Person + past verb + complement
I went to school last month.
We played the bass last night.
You talked to me by phone.
They studied English..

The past verbs can be divided in regular or
irregular forms.
For regular verbs, we usually form the past tense
adding a final -ed.
Eg. She asked a lot of questions.
Our parents loved to listen us.
I accepted his marriage proposition.

However, some regular verbs that end in -e only
have to be added a final -d.
Eg. Move Moved
For two-syllable verbs that end in -y, change the -y
to -ied.
Eg. Study Studied
For short verbs that end in one vowel + one
consonant, double the consonant:

We use the Past Continuous to talk about:
* Actions in progress in the past when something
else happened.
* Backgroud events.
* Temporary past actions.
The main verb formula is
was / were + verbing

He's bringing them when I woke up this morning.

Because they were saving a lot during the last years.

While, As and When
* While, As and When are used to connect two
actions happening at the same time.
* While and As go before the past continuous to
give a background activity.
Eg.
While /As she was waiting for him, it started to rain.

While, As and When
* When goes before a past simple to give a single
action that interrupted the background activity.
Eg.
When I saw her, she was standing in the lobby.
* If you star with While, As or When, you need to use
a comma after the first sentence. But if they are in
the middle, you don't have to use a comma.
Eg.
As I was playing soccer, my mom called me for lunch.
My mom called me for lunch as I was playing soccer.
