2. The Virtual Case File Program
The Virtual Case File program that was being built in order to upgrade the FBI from their
archaic 1920s paper files into the current state of the technology world was a catastrophic disaster
and ended with a complete scrapping of the project. There were many issues that came from this
project and a lot of lessons that could be learned from this poorly crafted and poorly managed
program. One lesson that could be learned is the absolute need for software requirements to be
written down into a document before development begins. A second lesson that could be pulled
from this case study is the need for experienced and qualified personnel in both the management and
engineering aspect. If the management is not qualified and/or there is a high... Show more content

The Virtual Case File program was set to fail from the beginning due to a lack of use dealing
with requirements engineering. The engineers on the project were given a basic idea of what
the program was to be and then sent to work without any outline, without knowing what exactly
was needed or what the FBI required the program to have. The lack of requirements engineering
led to massive amounts of code in the program that could not even be utilized or used. It wasn t
long before the change requests started rolling in roughly 400 from December 2002 to
December 2003, according to SAIC. Once they saw the product of the code we wrote, then they
would say, Oh, we ve got to change this. That isn t what I meant, said SAIC s Reynolds. [2]
There were issues with the system not being able to sort data properly and FBI agents found
themselves reverting back to physical paper folders instead of using the program they were
given that claimed it would bring them up to modern day technology standards and make their
jobs easier. The requirements of the program should not have been left to the hands of outside
contractors who were lacking experience and knowledge of what the FBI truly needed in this
new piece of software. Instead they should have, at least, been left in the hands of experienced
FBI programmers who did know what was needed. The second lesson that could be learned from
the Virtual Case File event is the need for a

3. Hildegard Alleluia Essay
Egeria is perceived as a mysterious worshipper of her time, around the fourth century. Hildegard
of Bingen is believed to be a twelfth century renaissance woman. Due to time and lack of proper
records, details about Egeria are not well known. However, people speculate that she was a
Spanish nun who lived in the fourth century. Hildegard existed between the years 1098 and 1179
and she was a German medieval composer (Newman 273). Notably, the musical works of Hildegard
are set in a liturgical way.
Hildegard s Alleluia is a typical plain chant with the main message being unending praises for
Virgin Mary. It is done by a group of soloists who take a lead in turns as the others give
responses. The piece is monophonic, that is one note per syllable, with minimal movement.
Notably the single melody has no accompaniment (Newman 273). Being a sacred text, it is meant
to be used during worship and mostly during feasts to honor Mary especially in the Roman
Catholic setting. The work of Hildegard generally portrays great knowledge and wisdom in the
field of music. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of the local Christians in Jerusalem. She wrote and sent the liturgical practices to other women in
her church in her homeland. The readings of both the old and New Testament, and the ritual of the
Holy Eucharist were generally fascinating to her. She further informed her people of the teaching of
catechism leading to baptism. Other issues that she wrote about include the holy week and the

7 Landmark Bioethical Cases Throughout History Patients have enjoyed informed consent as an
assumed right for less than a century. Medical professionals, in sharp contrast to some lingering
views, now follow this concept diligently. Over time, an intermingling of law and ethical reform
focused on informed patient consent and many other issues have combined to create the current
health care legal environment of change, ambiguity, progress and opportunity. For instance, cases
involving animal rights typically cite the Sierra Club ruling. More recently, bioethics issues have
come under scrutiny and must stand the test of hundreds of years of legal and moral guidance. The
following seven legal cases represent significant contemporary bioethics influences. Schloendorff v.

5. Health Of The Humber River Watershed By Collecting And...
Abstract This study was done to assess the health of the Humber River watershed by collecting and
analyzing benthic macro invertebrates. It was predicted that most of the species collected would
have high tolerances, and that the percentages of the benthic macro invertebrates would mostly fall
in the impaired or potentially impaired categories. Transects were measured out along the stream,
and the D net was held along the bottom to catch the invertebrates. Once 100 or more were caught,
they were then counted and identified. The Hilsenhof Biotic Index was use to calculate the total
tolerance of the organisms collected. The results showed that the distribution of species fell into the
potentially impaired category, while the total tolerance was in the unimpaired range. This could be
an indicator of a disturbance in the ecosystem that is affecting certain organisms more than others.
The study was mostly consistent with the hypothesis. Introduction This study was done to
determine the health of the Humber river watershed by testing the water quality. A watershed is a
geographical area that drains precipitation and water sources into the same place. Watersheds are
essential in supporting ecosystems around them and are vital to both plants and animals. The
results of this study could be analyzed and used as an indicator of a healthy or an impaired
ecosystem. There are four main reasons that this study was done. Firstly, the study was done to

he held his son, Leo, who looked just like his sister, except with slightly less roundness to his
cheeks. Leo let out a grunt and opened his eyes. They were blue, Taran s deep blue, and Taran
did not bother to check his tears of love. Did you hear all that? asked Alis, a soft smile on her

8. Nelson Mandela Courage Analysis
Leaders: Creating A Better Tomorrow Important leaders/activists have left an impactful effect
on not just our lives, but the worlds. But certain leaders, out of millions, have touched us
effectively. Leaving us with a strive and determination to change the world we live in today. For
Instance, Nelson Mandela a man full of courage, fought endlessly until he saw freedom rights
for all. Additionally, Gandhi was disgusted by the unequal treatment to certain races, so he
decided to stand up for an equal life, for all. Last but certainly not least, Morgan Brian who was
shocked and impacted by the unequal pay between women and men soccer players, and decided
to fight it. Although these individuals used different methods, they all had courage, passion, and
devoted followers, who helped them stand up for their cause. To start, Nelson Mandela had
courage, a large group that shared the same ideas that he did, and the dedication to his fight that
made him sacrifice so much. For instance, I learned the meaning of courage...showing a strength
and resiliency that defies the imagination (Mandela). This shows how Mandela had courage,
which ultimately was his inspiration for freedom to be widespread, for both the oppressed and the
oppressors. Additionally, I saw that it was not just my freedom that was curtailed, but the freedom
of everyone who looked like I did. That is when I joined the African National Congress, and that is
when the hunger for my own freedom became the greater

9. Art And Culture, 1920-1945, An Exhibition Curated By Dr....
Between February 13 and July18, 2015 the Brigham Young University Museum of Art is exhibiting
Deco Japan: Shaping Art and Culture, 1920 1945, an exhibition curated by Dr. Kendall Brown. The
exhibit was collected in an attempt to detail the cultural transformation that took place in Japan
from the Roaring Twenties all the way through the end of World War II. The exhibit displays the
tension between the deep national cultureand the up and coming cosmopolitan lifestyle. Dr. Brown
gathered art of all variations, ranging from paintings to sculptures to ordinary household objects.
Deco Art itself is a reflection of changing world cultures. It was born in France post World War I
as a sort of marriage between craft motifs and the industrial age, characterized by wealthy and
bold looking colors and shapes. The art form is well depicted in the decoration of the
Rockefeller Center in New York or any of the art and decor found in the movie The Great Gatsby.
This striking form represented the glamour of the age. In a great sense, the period represented a
change from conservative to a more liberal view on life. This was no different in Japan.
The period observed through the art pieces is one of extreme tension between two very different
lifestyles. During this time, many Japanese youth were reaching out to Western Modernism and
the allure of the big city and Jazz culture. The Moga, short for Modan Gaaru (modern girl) and the
Mobo, the modern boy, were paving the way for a new

10. Analysis Of The Novel A Short Story
Short stories often present the single experience of a character or set of characters where its
climax is marked by a moment of crisis, either in a literal or more emotional and spiritual sense.
Unlike the novel, a short story does not provide the full details of the circumstances or backstory of
the situation at hand, nor does it allow the reader to develop an in depth relationship with these
characters. Despite its condensed form, the short storycan possess layers of subtexts and a sort of
narrativeambiguity where pressure is placed on the reader to make something of these literary texts.
To make sense of these subtexts, the reader should pay particular attention to the narrative voice
being utilized because the narratorhas the ability to influence how a reader may respond to a
literary text by setting up a perspective from which the reader sees it. To get a thorough analysis
of a short story, the reader must analyze its narrator because the text s character is developed
from the degree to which and the manner in which that identity is indicated in the text, and the
choices that are implied (Bal 19). Evidence suggests that the experience a reader may get from a
short story is mostly dependent upon how that story is presented. Mieke Bal refers to this as
focalization, where the relation between who perceives and what is perceived colors the story with
subjectivity (8). For instance, the psychology behind the supposed lovers behavior in D.H.

Love, betrayal, and death all describe one legendary queen s story. Queen Guinevere s love story,
predominantly found in different types of literature, varies widely in many different portrayals, and
is still used present day. Even though the stories details may vary, they all usually have the same
tragic end. This makes Guinevereone of the most interesting characters to learn more about. The
legend of Queen Guinevere is one of deep love and heavy heartbreak. It always ends in betrayal
and death. However, the love story within is one of greatest told. She was married to King Arthurof

In some stories, Guinevere is abducted and King Arthur or Sir Lancelot comes to rescue her. In
some cases this rescue leads to King Arthur s death. The abductor also varies from story to story.
In some cases, it is Arthur s nephew, Mordred, who wants to take the throne from Arthur (
Guinevere. UXL Encyclopedia). In others, it is random people who want to get an edge up on
the king. Regardless of the abductor, in stories where she is discussed and has to have a man
come save her, it makes her seem less strong and capable. One more detail that changes from
story to story is how Queen Guinevere is portrayed. All of the other details of the story help to
justify this. She is either portrayed as loyal or betraying. In most cases, she is seen as betraying
to King Arthur because of her affair ( Guinevere. UXL Encyclopedia). However, in others she is
seen as loyal for not seeing Lancelot after her husband s death ( Guinevere. UXL Encyclopedia).
How she is portrayed helps to realize the theme of the story and understand her character

12. Compulsory Military Draft
Compulsory National Service was accepted by many Americans back when the nation was
starting to become a powerhouse and wars were beginning to emerge. However, forcing young
adults to join or at least register for the military at the age of 18 or is wrong because it is against
their free will, they may have a different career path in mind that could be disrupted if a war is to
emerge and it will affect their mental state and they could be diagnosed with PTSD.
To start off, compulsory national service is when a country requires that men and women register
for the military at the age of 18. Once they are registered, if a war breaks out and their nation is in
the war, they are automatically thrown into military service without their say so. This could mean
that at any age and at any time, a young adult could just be thrown into ... Show more content on

that charge could appear on the background check of the person and prevent them from getting a

to train for military combat. That means that they are also taken away from being able to
improve their skills in their career field. Not only will they lose the time to improve their skills
in their career but they will also begin to lose skills that they gained from the career. They will be

13. Analysis Of Philippa Gregory s Three Sisters Three...
Three Sisters, Three Queens, a historical fiction novel written by Philippa Gregory, takes place in
16th century Europe, an era characterized by powerful monarchs whose personal and political life
are incredibly complex and intertwined. In particular, this story focuses on three women who will
become the queens of Scotland, France, and England, respectively: Margaret, her sister, Mary, and
their sister in law, Katherine of Aragon. The story is told from Margaret s point of view, who
provides a unique yet often disregarded female perspective of this era intended to demonstrate that
these ruling women are just as important to history as their male counterparts, namely Henry VIII
and James IV. The novel is centered around two types of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would spoil everything if Mary s is French cut or more richly embroidered, or more fashionable
(293 294). Her superficial nature and blatant sense of entitlement resulting from her privileged
upbringing becomes almost comical, especially as she is so heavily concerned with her
possessions even while her country is engulfed in both civil war and war with England.
Nevertheless, Margaret still does mature with age, as she and her sisters come to realize that
they should be working together rather than separately: We spent our time admiring and
envying each other and we should have been guiding and protecting each other (544). Ironically,
on that very same page Margaret expresses delight over her sisters misfortunes: I am in a better
place than both my sisters. I cling to this little joy, as stubborn as when we were girls jockeying
for supremacy (544). Margaret s fickle nature embodies her time period, where many of the
monarchs share similar competitive desires and betrayal is commonplace. On an even grander
scale, Gregory highlights a natural human flaw and defies the idea of a perfect protagonist. Even
though Margaret changes for the better, a little part of her young and selfish self will always
remain within her. Margaret is not always a likable character, but she is certainly a relatable one,
whose experiences to achieve power and happiness teach her that she should have confidence in
herself and her sisters to defy gender norms

14. Copper s Atomic Structure Essay
Copper is the 29th element in the periodic table, located more specifically at group 11, period 4.
Because of its chemical and physical attributes, it is a transition metal, which denotes high boiling
and melting points. Both a conductor of heat and electricity, Copper is ductile and malleable. Its
symbol Cu derives from the Latin cuprum. Copper is also valued for its two for one practicality: it
is a vital nutrient that has antibacterial properties. Aside from what many people generally know
about Copper (the common knowledge, so to speak), there is much information regarding its atomic
buildup.
Every element s atoms are composed of three main subatomic particles: neutrons, electrons and
protons. Located in the atom s nucleus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Copper has atomic number 29 and mass number 63.546 u. With that information, one can deduce
that Copper has 29 protons (the atomic number) and 35 neutrons (mass number minus atomic
number). For all decimal cases, mass number is rounded up to the closest integer, so Copper is
listed as having 35 neutrons instead of 34.546 neutrons. This discrepancy exists because Copper
s atomic mass is the average atomic mass of a mixture of isotopes (in this case, Copper atoms
that differ in their neutrons count). For the purpose of this essay, we should only mention two
isotopes of Copper: the two stable, naturally occurring isotopes. These isotopes are Cu with mass
number 63 and a percent abundance of 69.17 (while still keeping atomic number of 29) and Cu
with mass number 65 and a percent abundance of 30.83 (once again, atomic number 29). Copper
has 27 other isotopes, whose mass numbers range from 52 to 80, but they are radioactive, highly
unstable, and sustain very short half lives. As stated before, a proton carries a positive charge and
an electron has a negative charge. So, as logic and basic mathematics would suggest, an atom is
always electrically neutral when the number of protons equals the number of electrons and the two
cumulative charges cancel. For Copper to be neutral, its electron count must match its atomic
number 29, so one can infer

right in. Having family close by to help ease this transition helped out greatly. The fourth addition
to our family was developing on schedule, regular doctor visits, and checkups. We decided that he
would be born in NC since my wife was comfortable with the doctor she was already seeing. The
estimated delivery date also worked with my work schedule and being home for the birth.
When I was finished in Key West, I had a few weeks off before I started my new assignment in
GA. During these few weeks I rejoined my family in NC and took my wife house hunting in GA.
We found a great development just going up with a new K 8 school, which was going to be
finished for the start of the next school year, just outside the gate of the development. With our
expected due date for our son in August, the family set up in NC, and the timing of my work

18. The Defining Decade
The Defining Decade was one of the most unique and informative books I have ever read. Using
this book in relation to my life, I have gained a lot of acumen on how there are a lot of
advantages in your twenties and if you do not take advantage of them now, there will be
consequences in the future. One point that made a lasting impression on me was the topic on
weak ties. Meg Jay says, Weak ties feel too different or in some cases, literally too far away to be
close friends. But thats the point. Because they re not just figures in an already ingrown cluster,
weak ties gives us access to something fresh. They know things and people that we don t know.
(21) This is a very accurate statement because networking leads to opportunities that cannot be
seen unless you act and take advantage of it. Perhaps the single best thing we can do to make our
own luck in our twenties is to say yes to our weak ties or give them a reason to say yes to us. (31)

many people will have an opinion on how I should live my life. However finding myself and
making my own decisions is how I choose to grow as a man. Jay has stated helpful career tips
and intelligent points regarding time. The choices we make in our twenties affect us for the rest
of our lives. You have to start somewhere and experience is what will count in the long run. One
new aspect I have learned is to never procrastinate or hold back. Meg Jays continues to remind us
that it is always beneficiary to take the first step. Never let fear or doubt hold you back. I agree
with what Meg Jay has to say because I was always doubtful and anxious about my future. After
reading The Defining Decade, I feel I have effectively learned how to cope with

19. Cross Listings On International Exchanges
The past few decades have witnessed the increased internationalization of various firms through
cross listings on international exchanges. This has been facilitated by market liberalisation, which
has led to greater integration of global securities markets. Cross border listing has become one of
the avenues for the integration of global securities markets.
There are two forms of cross border listing, namely, direct listing and indirect listing. Direct listing
implies that the firm concerned offers ordinary shares to the public. Indirect listing on exchanges
is through Depository Receipts (DRs). Depository receipt is a negotiable certificate issued by a
bank in a domestic country that represent ownership of shares in companies of other countries.
Cross listing, particularly through DRs such as American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) or Global
Depositary Receipts (GDRs), is a popular way of internationalization among firms from emerging
economies. In addition to Europe and America, international firms are allowed to cross list in other
countries through the DR programme.
There could be several reasons for a domestic company to cross list, such as an expanding investor
base, the desire to improve stock liquidity through its highly liquid secondary market, the
increasing visibility of the company, a growing customer base, and the wish to take advantage of
higher valuations. From the perspective of investors, cross listing mitigates some of the

20. Jury Process

Abstract
The Jury Selection Process is a research paper that reviews the jury selection process in detail.
First we will review the stages of the criminal trail and go in depth with the jury selection process.
The paper will demonstrate why the jury selection process is necessary for the United States as
well as its patrons. The paper will also provide a break down of advantages and disadvantages on
the jury selection process. In addition to the information listed above, we will review some large
profile court cases and its jury selection process. This will determine just how detailed and
challenging the process can prove to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to serve on this jury each of the potential juror had to fill out a number of different items.
First, each potential juror had to complete 79 page questionnaires that contained 294 questions
(Ford amp; Newton 1994). This questionnaire had questions pertaining the prosecution and the
defense. In addition, each candidate had to complete a one page hardship questionnaire (Ford
amp; Newton 1994). Due to this difficult process the jury selection took two months to finish.
By using this method it ensured that OJ Simpson received a fair trial and know one would be
biased to his situation. Another example that we could review with a rigorous jury selection
process would be the Michael Jackson case in 2011. The defendant in the case was Dr. Conrad
Murray. Dr. Murray was accused and convicted for manslaughter because he gave Michael
Jackson a powerful anesthetic and abandoned him. The pool of perspective jurors started with
145 people (Duke, 2011). With the prosecution and defense using their peremptory challenges,
they narrow the juror list down to 84 potential jurors (Duke, 2011). In order to further investigate,
each candidate had to fill out a questionnaire that contained 113 different questions (Duke, 2011).
The prosecution and defense had a week in order to review the questions from each juror. Each
side was allowed twenty minutes in order to question each potential juror and determine if they
would be a good fit for this problematic case. By using this

Angelina Jolie, spoke this as the into of her great speech at World Refugee Day in 2009. Known
to most as an exceptional actress, Angelina surprises some with her title of Special Envoy of
Refugees given to her by the UN High Commissioner of Refugees. Angelina Jolie started her work

The high incidence of catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) during the patient s
admission can result in further complication and could potentially increase their hospital days. This
could delay the patient s recovery time, causing emotional and financial distress and possible death
if CAUTI goes unnoticed. There are research studies focusing on the prevalence of CAUTI and all
previous studies show that it is in the best interest of the patient to discontinue the Foley catheters
as soon as possible to decrease the rate of infections. In some health care organizations, different
approaches have been indicated to tackle this problem. CAUTI rounding teams have shown positive
results leading to a number of health care facilities to implement the rounding team into their
practice for the benefit of the patient population.

Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) have been studied in clinical situations where
it is in the best interest of the patient to discontinue as soon as possible to decrease the infection
rates. Prompt Foley catheter removal as soon as indicated improves patient outcomes (Magers,

Exploring the Reasons for the Underachievement of Ethnic Minority Children
Rational ========
Every child goes through the same education system, every child works through the same
curriculum 2000 set by New Labour and every child sits the same exams up to the age of 16. So
why are there marked differences in educational attainment for ethnic minority students?
My main aim is to find out if racism is the main cause of the gap between different ethnic groups in
education, which can lead to some ethnic minority groups being over represented in low status, low
paid jobs.
My investigation will look at the different explanations that sociologists have used over the years to

Yet I can do a comparison with the rest of Britain by using other sociologist research on the topic,
and see how much mine and theirs vary.
I have picked this topic because I feel that education underachievement is a major problem and so
is institutional racism. This issue has gained more attention after the racially motivated murder of
Stephen Lawrence and the Mancpherson report that followed. I also believe that everyone should
be given an equal chance to do his or her best, so it is important to me to find out if racism is the
real reason for ethnic minority students underachievement.
METHODOLOGY
An important issue in my research is how am I going to go about it? The main issue is to find out
the best method that suits the nature of my research. Along side this it is important to know how
practical and ethical my research is.
I have decided to use unstructured interviews for my research. This is due to several reasons, one
being the constraints of the area I live in. Norwich generally has small amounts of ethnic diversity,
and my school shows this, as the majority of students are White. If this wasn t so then I would of
used questionnaires and observation methods. Therefore I have decided that my best opinion is to

26. The Importance Of Equal Rights In Israel
Since the Zionist movement began in the late 19th century, Jews have been treating the Palestinian
people as a minority and have been pushing them out of Palestine in an effort to create a Jewish
state. In his book Palestine Inside Out: An Everyday Occupation , Saree Makdisi, provides a
detailed account of how Palestinian people living in Israeland its occupied territories are still unable
to enjoy the same rights as Jewish people. He argues that Israel is oppressing the Palestinians and
violating international law by restricting their movement, thereby slowly diminishing the
Palestinian s presence within Israel. Makdisi believes that the only viable option to ensure
Palestinians have the same rights as the Jews is a one state solution, which I am inclined to agree
with.
The Israeli government has a bureaucratic process in place that oppresses Palestinians. Several
different international and human rights organizations have submitted that Israel s way of
supporting the Palestinians oftentimes violates international law. Palestinians have an everyday
struggle that Jews do not have to contend with, specifically due to Israel s handling of permits,
checkpoints, and zones, all of which are intended to break up Palestinian areas from each other (p.
29). As will be discussed in the following paragraphs, Israelis discriminate against Palestinians on a
daily basis, grinding down their hope for peace and equal rights.
Israel has a prejudiced permit system, which makes

A majority of people in America conjecture that because slavery has been overcome, complete

negative stigma placed on people of color first formed by the harsh language used present during
slavery in the cases of Dred Scott v. Sandford(1857) and Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) assisting in the

B., 2014, pg. 526). The case Dred Scott v. Sandford exhibits dehumanizing language by
indicating slaves as less than a person. This proves the mindset that Caucasians concluded
people of color were not deserving of the acknowledgement of obtaining the same rights that the
majority enjoyed. Identically, just as equivalent as the case Dred Scott v. Sandford, Plessy v.
Ferguson harnesses the language of entitlement. The case paints the picture of a mulatto man,
Plessy, obstinate to sit in the white coach. The plaintiff claims, Upon the other hand, if he be a
colored man and be assigned so [a colored coach], he has been deprived of no property, since he
is not lawfully entitled to the reputation of a white man, (Plessy v. Ferguson, 2014, pg. 549). In
other words, because Plessy occupies a contrasting skin color, he cannot be human; as a result,
anyone from African descent was denoted as a purchase. Consequently, if he had light skin, he
could rightfully sit in the coach for the white man is a divine product produced by God. The
mindset at that time period suggests people of color were produced by God to serve for them.

Introduction:
The I 35W Mississippi river bridge also known as Bridge 9340 officially was an eight lane, steel
truss arch bridge which carried the Interstate 35W across the Mississippi river connected the
downtown east and Marcy Holmes. Its construction began in the year 1964, was finally opened in
1967. It connected the northeast of Metrodome on its south end and the University of Minnesota on
the North end. The bridge was the boundary of Mississippi Mile downtown riverfront parkland. The
north foundation of the bridge was near the hydroelectric plant built in 1988. The south abutment
was in an area polluted by the coal gas processing plant. There weren t any mentions of this in the
failure investigations. The bridge was a continuous truss bridge that had a total span of 1,907 ft. It
was an 8 lane bridge having a width of 113.3ft. and was 115 ft. high. It was designed by Sverdrup
Parcel to 1961 AASHO (American Association Of State Highway Officials) standard specifications.
The construction contract worth more than US $5.2 million at the time, went to Hurcon Inc. and
Industrial Construction Company, which built the steel trusses and deck. The piers were not built
in the navigation channel instead the center span of the bridge consisted of a single 456 foot steel

The Mayan civilization was a bountiful society that flourished from around 300 BCE to 900 CE
and, according to some, lasted for up to 3000 years. During the height of their civilization, the
Maya built a prominent society and created many inventions, some of which are used today.
They are well known for creating the first writing system called cuneiform, the concept of zero,
calendars, mathematics, ball courts, and the length of the solar year measured at about 365.242
days. Having first migrated to the lowlands of Mesoamerica, where soil was weak, the Maya used
many intense agricultural methods such as slash and burn, irrigation, and terracing to their
advantage; they were able to produce plentiful amounts of crops and thrive in a lush grassy area.
They traded numerous luxury goods with their neighbors in Mesoamerica such as cacao beans,
rare animal hides, fine artwork and jewelry, jade, and even gold. Though they often fought with
nearby Mayan cities, they had strong political and economic systems and a social hierarchy, kings
and high priests being the most important. It would seem that the Maya didn t have any real
obstacles to their reign, and for a long time, they lived in prosperity and peace. However, near the
beginning of the 8th century CE, a large wave of abandonment swept throughout the cities, starting
from the southern regions and quickly moving upward. From this point on, these abandonments

35. Federal Budget And The Budget
It is no secret, the federal budget is in a major deficit. The federal government continues to borrow
money to finance obligations that include Medicare, Social Security, military defense, federal

debt (Krulick, 2015). As federal debt grows, the congress raises the allowable debt ceiling. The
Congressional Budget Office estimated the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was $17.3 trillion in
2014 and that the federal budget deficitwas $506 billion ( Congressional Budget Office, ).
I believe the sources I have used to research this date are credible. The Congressional Budget
Office claims to be a nonpartisan agency which makes no recommendations on policy. The agency
simply analyses budgets at the congressional level. Throughout my research, all sources reported
similar information regarding the budget. It is possible the information related to the federal
budget could be a skewed statistic or propaganda from one or another political party.
I determined the data related to the federal budget to be supportive of the Republican Party. The
Republican Party potentially may have constructed inaccurate information to help solicit votes for
an upcoming election or general support of their political party. It would be in the Republican
Party s favor to suggest a higher debt than the actual debt; for the reason that politicians may

38. Christianity s Domination Of The Roman Empire
Some may credit Christianity s domination of the Roman Empire to Constantine s Edict of
Milan. This edict was a continuation of the Edict of Galerius, which essentially stated that
despite the disapproval of the Roman government, Christians were allowed to continue
worshipping, as long as they prayed for the well being of the state and allowed the government
some control of the magistrates (Knipfing 697). The Edict of Milan furthered this by granting
both to Christians and to all men freedom of choice in following such form of worship as they
wish ( The Edict of Milan 1). However, due to evangelistic practices already in place, the Edict of
Galerius and the Edict of Milan was superfluous to the rise and spread of Christianity. The Edicts
of Galerius and Milan were decreed to stop persecution of the Christians that had lasted since the
movement began. Persecution of Christians had begun as early as the Emperor Nero s rule.
Persecution went on automatically, if sporadically...until the third century (G. E. M. de Ste. Croix,
Early Christians 15). Christians were persecuted simply for being Christians. At the beginning of
their movement, many pagan Romans believed all Christians were incest and cannibals because of
the secrecy of their rituals. Once the apologetic works of Augustine and others were written to
defend the Christian practices that were the source of these ideas, the only claim against someone
being a Christian was their questionable loyalty to the state.

39. The Popularity Of Fast Casual Dining
A question that is asked every day is what do we want to eat? This question has many different
answers; but some answers everyone would agree with is something fast, cheap, and good
quality. This is the market that fast casual has been dominating over the years, and a market that
seems to be on the rise for the foreseeable future. Whether it is a concept created by an unknown
player in the industry, or a Michelin Star chef, the fast casual concept s rising popularity is still at
the beginning of its revolution. History shows that the concept of fast casual dining is not new.

The largest fast casual chain in the world is Panera Bread, with Chipotle trailing at a close
second place. These two brands have not only represented this growing industry, but inspired
many other concepts trying to replicate the success that they have achieved. The prosperity
achieved by Panera and Chipotle have encouraged many world famous chefs to try and create
their own concepts. In her article, DeJesus talks about how two Michelin starred chef Joshua
Skenes is partnering with Adam Flieschman of Unami Burger to introduce a fast casual Chinese
noodle concept called Fat Noodle. Here guests will be able to dine on the recipes of Joshua
Skenes for $6 10 per meal. So now we have high quality chefs who want to dive into this industry
by creating a fast fine casual restaurant. These restaurants can be characterized by their quality of
food, speed of service, as well as their price point. According to Ethan Stowell, the chef s
approach to product and the guest s experience is where the fine dining sensibility can make the
biggest impact on a fast casual restaurant. I don t think they are much different than running
higher end places, he says of the fast casual market. The goals are still the same. The goals are
have somebody come in to have a good time, try to offer them good value for what they get.

40. Lou Gehrig Farewell To Baseball Rhetorical Devices
In Lou Gehrig s, Farewell to Baseball , he is addressing not only his loved ones, his fans, but the
American people who are witnessing his disease take it s course. Although Gehrig was suffering
from the terrible affects of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (later coined Lou Gehrig s Disease ), his
speech sounds more comforting than it does fearful. Gehrig uses rhetorical devices such as the
emotional appeal pathos in order to convey a positive connotation despite the bad break he is
addressing.
Lou Gehrig is most recognized for his achievements in baseball. He was the first baseman to play
17 consecutive seasons for the New York Yankeesand really made a name for himself in the world
of baseball. At a time when baseball was America s pastime, Gehrig s fan base was immense.

41. According To Ward Goodenough s The Interpretation Of Culture
One of the most significant and controversial elements found within the study of music is the
representation of culture. Although the definition of representation according to Merriam Webster
is a person or group that speaks or acts for or in support of another person or group, it is not as
easily said than done. The true act of representing another is both incredibly complex and
challenging as it contains many subjective variables. History, for example, has demonstrated the
complexityof defining what is true representation through the presence of leaders and authoritative
figures who have failed to truthfully represent the common man. As a result, the people who have
no outlet for expression are represented unjustly by those who do. Similarly,... Show more content

Thus, culture has become more located in the discussion and ways in which demonstrate such
complexity than truly demonstrating the complexities of man. It is presumed that in order for true
representation to exist, it must be complex and contain many variables in order to be true. One of
the most prominent questions surrounding representation in ethnography is how to convey
complexity, especially in a culture that is so vast. But if complexity becomes the root of
representation, then representation can very easily become fixated over how to cover all aspects of
a culture and to focus more on the scientific analysis and processes of articulating the traditions
found within a culture than the actual people found within the culture. Complexity, although still a
significant factor in representation, can lead to an deviation away from what the true focus of
representation should be: the people. Even though representation does indeed contain many
complex factors and unanswered questions, the focus of a study should not centralize solely on how
to answer such questions. The complexity of representation should instead be found within the
thick descriptions of what can be simply answered: the emotions and beliefs of the people. The
only form of complexity found within representation should be found within the thick descriptions
of man, By doing so, the complexities of man becomes the focus of what true representations
involves instead of the complexity of representation in and of itself. Therefore, representation is and
should be a connection to the people: the source of what truly should be represented in the study of

42. Why The Rich Should Pay Higher Taxes
What do you think would happen if the rich paid more taxes? Would there be a better economy
or would it be worst, maybe even stay the same. Increasing the taxes would help out our
economy in a few ways. one way that it would help out our economy is that not only would there
be less of a concentration of profit at the top of our social ladder there would be more revenue
for the funding of civil union jobs. Also not to mention causing the bigger corporations to have to
pay more so they would be unable to escape with the majority of the illegal activity they do today.
Lastly if the government were to crack down on offshoring it would help with collecting taxes and
the money would return to the people and back into circulation for our economy. Here are some
reasons why the rich should pay higher taxes.
One of the obvious reasons to raise the taxes of the rich would be because they simply earn
more. One example is if two people started the year off with fifty thousand but then let us say one
had a rich family member that died and they had received millions through a will, then say they
received a gift of one billion by the end of the year they pay the same taxes even though one of
they are now a billionaire (Cohen). The reason is that the government does not tax on gifts or wills
so then they would not have to pay more taxes if they received a gift that had consisted of a large
sum of cash (Cohen). Now there is a large chunk of change out of circulation and now the middle

TMC will create seven product based in house companies and will be responsible for short to mid

destroying the orcas they are also lying to the public and covering up all the signs of bad health of

At SeaWorld captivity has a massive effect on the physical side of orcas. Due to the shallow
depths of the tanks and the lack of sun protection and crystal clear water, the orcas are often
exposed to blistering heat giving them perpetual sunburn. To hide and cover this from the public
SeaWorld apply black zinc oxide to the burns as it matches their skin colour. Even though black
zinc oxide minimalizes light reflection it is almost always only applied to the orcas once they
have already conceived the burns and should not be used on their skin. According to The Dodo , a
former SeaWorld trainer told them that the animal s skin was usually burned or blistered before
the application of the black zinc oxide . This suggest that SeaWorld cares more about their income

bourgeoisie to want a modern German nation state with its own cultural identity. The state would
ideally be built on liberal democracy, constitutionalism, representation, and popular sovereignty. The

Tensions between the two states developed with the rise of Otto von Bismarck, a political figure of
Germany, to power. In 1848, an all German parliament in Frankfurt was created. The goal of this
parliament was to make a constitution for all German states. The series of liberal revolutions that
had occurred over time reached a climax when people rebelled against the parliament, mainly
because of Prussia and Austria s rivalry. This caused supporters of the parliament to advocate a
small German nation state with Austria excluded (Gale). As this revolution took place, Bismarck
was persuaded to reenter the government in order to protect the monarchy. Bismarck attended the
Frankfurt Parliament and made his traditionalist opinions known through speeches. Bismarck was
then appointed envoy to the Bundestag in 1851, which is when he began to gain power (Otto Gale).
As can be seen, a parliament was created as an attempt to unify all German states, but tensions
between Prussia and Austria caused a rebellion against the constitution. In an attempt to end the
rebellion, some of the promoters of the parliament opened up the idea of a unified Germany without

Ren has been rendered into English in various ways such as: benevolence, man to manness, perfect
virtue, human heartedness, and, as in our textbook, humanity. It has been regarded as the defining
virtue of a junzi/gentlemen and the ultimate commitment in Confucius thought. However,
Confucius never intends to offer a formal definition of ren; instead, he gives only various answers
to questions about ren in different circumstances for students with different temperaments and with
varying degrees of understanding.
f. yi (in the Analects) Yi is another important virtue through which ren is cultivated. Confucius
stresses yi as necessary for developing ren.
Unlike li as external rituals and rules of propriety, yi is internal virtue, a moral disposition to do
what is right and an ability to recognize what is right; yi functions like a kind of moral sense or
intuition regarding action. Like Kant s conception of good will and duty, what is according to yi
unconditional and absolute; some actions must be performed only because they are right, and not
because of what they produce. On the other hand, unlike Kant, yi is not something that has nothing
to do with inclination, disposition or intuition.
As far as the relation between yi and li is concerned, cultivating yi is carried out through observing
li. The superior person regards righteousness (yi) as the substance of everything.

Introduction Testing and experimentation isn t a buzz term, a lot of astute marketing and
