Eduwebinar: Our Everyday Tools for SuccessJudy O'Connell
The digital revolution has given us a world of global connectedness, information organisation, communication and participatory cultures of learning, giving teachers the opportunity to hone their professional practice through their networked learning community. What do you do to make it so?
This document discusses emerging Web 2.0 technologies and social media tools that can be used in adult education. It provides an overview and introduction to various social media platforms like Bitly, QR codes, Pinterest, Twitter, Google Voice, PollEverywhere, and top 100 tools for learning lists. The document discusses how these tools can be integrated into adult education based on Bloom's taxonomy and the 5 moments of learning. Contact information is also provided for further information.
This document discusses emerging technologies and how they bridge personal and organizational uses. It notes that search engines can surface personal information and photos shared on social media. Social media platforms use facial recognition software and make user information available to increase connectivity. Small businesses can benefit from social media by using it for merchandising, selling tickets, and enhancing customer relations. The document also outlines how students in a class worked in groups to investigate technologies, create a digital strategy for a business, storyboard a website, and build a proof of concept site in WordPress as part of an emerging technologies module meant to provide active learning experiences.

Resistance is Futile: The dynamics of the Science CollectiveJudy O'Connell
Educators are increasingly using new media and digital technologies to teach and engage their 21st century students. Reading, writing, gaming, trans-media, immersive worlds, augmented reality, and Web 3.0 are all part of the new digital frontiers. Whether it’s science or science fiction, Alice in Wonderland or Angry Birds, the dynamics of this new information ecology can transform science classroom experiences. Assimilate these ideas, tools and techniques into your ‘collective’ ~ Resistance is futile.
The digital revolution has given us a world of global connectedness, information organisation, communication and participatory cultures of learning, giving teachers the opportunity to hone their professional practice through their networked learning community. What do you do to make it so?
This document discusses what may come after social networking. It suggests communities, publics and ties will be important as people consolidate their online and offline identities and interests into overlapping public groups. These topic-based communities can be triggered by social objects and viral content on social media platforms. While companies exist between the "Coasean floor" where transaction costs are too high for groups, and the "Coasean ceiling" where transaction costs prevent management, new social technologies may lower those transaction costs and enable more group action and crowd-sourced initiatives.
What comes after social networking? No-one really knows but communities, overlapping publics and support for different kinds of social ties will all play their part.

Welcome to Minecraft, Exploration and Other Educational Apps
The Wave has hit!
The new curriculum is here!
-your classroom
-technology
-apps?
We are going to surf the wave today and my goal is by the end:
You will learn the WHY we should integrate apps into our teaching
One take away that you can use in your classroom
Do you feel overwhelmed with the new curriculum, your class and technology? The wave has come.
This image is “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” or called “The Wave”. It was created by artist Hokusai. This is his first print of his series of 36 views of Mount Fugi.
The wave forms a circle around the center of the design. The drawing illustrates the religious terror of the overwhelming ocean completely surrounding his country.
As we start of I have some thoughts for the next hour:
Hallway Pass – leave when you want to. There are so many apps out there, and perhaps half way through the presentation you may want to go play.
2. Relax and Kick Back – This will be more of a story telling session, rather than a lecture or a presentation. Please feel free to relax and listen. And take time to reflect on these ideas.
3. Take an Idea and Make it Your Own
You will learn WHY we should integrate educational apps and see some examples. I have videos.
Thoughts and more. This session is more about why rather than just a list of apps and that makes you feel overwhelmed. If you want just an app list then take the list and use the free hallpass.
Hoping you can ride the wave.

Taking apps and putting them together. The following is a video that demonstrates
iBook Students had to create in Minecraft their Aboriginal Village, then they traded iPads and invaded a friend. They had to create a book describing their impacts.
iMovie Aboriginal Film Festival involved students studying Aboriginal groups across Canada. They had to include structures, food and other components. These parts had to be part of their iMovie.
Do you feel overwhelmed with the new curriculum, your class and technology? The wave has come.
But did you know the artist also placed a circle on the image on the flip side then there is a Ying and Yang sign.
So hopefully you have surfed this wave and you can understand the WHY and have a take away piece for your classroom.
