Going deep and hitting the heart is important. We will journey in the next couple hours down a road that is reflective, encouraging and empowering. We are teachers and over the years of teaching our new curriculum gives us the power to connect with the Core Competencies.: Communication, Thinking (Creative and Critical) and Personal and Social (Positive Personal and Cultural Identity; Personal Awareness and Responsibility; and Social Responsibility).
What is your vision for building relationships? I will jump through the content gauntlet and see what relationships I can make the content? Are you being intentional? Edutopia asked teachers “What do you want to teach your students?” These three were said. What would you say? Let’s look at Finland and what they have to say . . . .
Finland is doing something right!
Going into the factual information about the past schooling systems and where we come from would take weeks, months and possibly years to fully elaborate on, however it is important to reflect on where we have come from. But think about it. Factories, Plantations, Child Labor, Business Mindsets, a world without information at our finger tips – one where you have to pull open that huge encyclopedia.
Mental Health Conference in Richmond this Fall. There was a powerful slide that shared what a well adjusted human being would be. Do we want those traits for our children, our students, our schools, our classrooms and our future. For sure! So let’s take time to see why is it that we get stuck with angst in our relationships with students and how technology can empower relationships.
A powerful take on why we are stuck and what we need to do to get out of the past gauntlet.
TED talk shared how we disconnect because we crave connection and often we disengage when we crave that connection we are not getting in the real world. We can use the device, but in the past (and currently) we use newspapers, tvs, food and other ways to disconnect with others. What is this telling us?
We are now going to make a turn in our journey to talk about how we can use these stumbling blocks, as stepping stones.
Empathy Machine and Birds over Sidra
We can empower people through a device. The idea of a diamond. What are we using it for?
