 Parent involvement is a critical factor in a child's
educational success.
 A positive home-school connection is an essential in
making a teachers job easier.
 Your presence in the school helps your child and
others realize the value of education.
 Support from parents helps in dealing with
behavioral or academic problems.

3. Volunteer Policy
 All volunteers
 Must sign in at the Safety Agent’s desk and in Ms
Byrd’s office.
 Must wear their volunteer badge when on duty.
 Will be given an assignment from Principal Cox
or Ms. Byrd.
 Do not reprimand children.
 Do not provide reports to parents on behalf of
the school. .

Volunteers?
 Parent volunteers are:
 Positive members of the school community who
exhibit model behaviors.
 Aware of all the programs we offer students to
improve their academic achievement.
 Attend and support meetings and workshops.
 Supports and promotes the educational focus of
The Thurgood Marshall Magnet School PS 80.

 The number one determinant of success or failure of
children is the parent ?
 If parents are effective in motivating and inspiring
their children to strive for academic excellence, the
probability for success increases ?

6. School Staff responsibility
 School staff members are responsible for addressing
inappropriate student behaviors.
 School staff are expected to engage all students in
intervention and prevention strategies that address
behavioral issues.
 School staff must also discuss these strategies with
the student’s parent(s).

7. Parents Responsibility
 Work with school personnel to make school safe.
 Meet with educators to address areas of concern.
 Instill in your child the importance of education, the
need to respect others and school property .
 To be role models for your child!!

8. Parent Volunteers Mentor
Children To-
 Believe -in themselves and their ability to achieve.
 To have a clear sense of purpose as to why they are in
school.
 That they have an obligation to excel.
 Be determine to succeed.
 Envision their own success.

9. Discontinuation of Services
 Any Parent Volunteer:
 whose conduct jeopardizes the safety of school/student/parents.
 Interferes with the programs in the school.
 Damages property.
