The document provides information about the PARCC assessment, including what it stands for, its goals and beliefs, the types of assessments, timelines, expectations, and resources. There are two main assessments: a Performance Based Assessment given after 75% of the year involving extended tasks, and an End of Year assessment given after 90% focusing on short answer items. The document outlines timelines by grade and subject. It emphasizes preparing students through a focus on academic vocabulary, analyzing questions, transitioning to scoring rubrics, and regular practice with PARCC-style tasks and questions.
Who has the crystal ball for moving forward with Digital Assessment?Denise Whitelock
Who has the crystal ball for moving forward with Digital Assessment?
Digital assessment is an evolving construct used in education to enrich, inform and complement the teaching process. Using automatic feedback however, has been under-utilised and under-valued throughout this process and further highlighted with the introduction of electronic teaching and assessments.
This presentation will discuss the issues raised by teachers and students in this arena. It will provide exemplars of how their concerns are currently being addressed by both researchers and software developers in order to support educator feedback to students. Finally, the issue of potential disrupters will be raised which moves us into the realm of crystal ball gazing.
Keynote address presented at WISEflow Conference, Brunel University

Finding What Works in Learning: Simple Ways to Analyze Education Research Stu...DreamBox Learning
Dr. Tim Hudson, VP of Learning at DreamBox Learning, and Dr. Gina Burkhardt, former EVP at the American Institutes for Research (AIR), will help you more easily analyze research, ask probing questions, and access the fine print of a research study.
They’ll equip you to meaningfully and successfully review educational research about curricular programs right away, including:
1) Eight key questions to guide analysis of the “fine print” of a research study
2) Using a simple rubric to quickly analyze the quality of any research study
3) Ideas for conducting research in your own classroom, school, or district
For parents: The new SAT, scores, and moreCollegeBoardSM
In early March, students all over took the new SAT and their online score reports will be available in May. We want parents to understand what’s new about the test and score reports, as well as how colleges plan to use the new scores for admission.
Whether you’re already familiar with DreamBox Learning or you’re just hearing about us for the first time, you see how DreamBox does math differently. Math Mindset Comes First: Closing the Achievement GapDreamBox Learning
Students who are behind in math may suffer from “failure fatigue.” Symptoms may include feeling of nausea when math class approaches, “answer getting,” and feelings of frustration with no cure. To relieve the symptoms, we must first treat the cause – a fixed mindset where students believe that they are bad at math and will never get it. In this EdWeb webinar, Leland Kriegh explored the reasons why we need to focus on building a math mindset within each student before we focus on specific skills. He also shared five resources to help you develop your students’ math mindset and how you can foster this in the math classroom and outside-the-classroom programs. This webinar will benefit all K-12 math educators, especially those teaching in K-8; and administrators, including principals, assistant principals, superintendents, district administrators, and curriculum directors.

National Merit Scholarships and the New PSATC2 Education
We’ll start off by trying to demystify the National Merit Scholarship. It sounds like a good thing, but what is it, and how do you qualify?
Next year (2016) the PSAT will be very different from the current test given this year and in years past. So, in order to help you plan and prepare, we’ll talk about some of those changes and what they mean for you.
Finally, we’ll cover a little bit about planning for the new exam – how to prepare and what to be on the lookout for – so that you can give yourself the best shot at getting a great score.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
