Para amino phenol (PAP) is a widely used intermediate in the pharmaceutical industry, primarily used to manufacture paracetamol. More than 80% of PAP worldwide is used for paracetamol production. China is a major producer and exporter of PAP, with notable producers including Taixing Yangzi, Liaoning Shixing, and Anuhi Bayi Chemical. India is also a major consumer of PAP, importing around 21,000 tons annually from China. PAP is manufactured directly from nitrobenzene and hydrogen in a single-step process using an aqueous acid and catalyst.
