Abstract Writing
(Seminar / Workshop/ Conference /
Symposium)

Conference
A conference is a meeting of people who
"confer" about a topic.
Conference types include: Academic
conference, in science and academic, a
formal event where researchers present
results, workshops, and other activities.
Mr.C.Thatchinamoorthy
Seminar
Seminar: Seminars are educational
events that feature one or more subject
matter experts delivering information
primarily via lecture and discussion.
Mr.C.Thatchinamoorthy
Symposium
Symposium: A Symposium is typically a more
formal or academic gathering, featuring
multiple experts delivering short presentations
on a particular topic. This closely relates to
Seminar.
Mr.C.Thatchinamoorthy
Workshop
Workshops tend to be smaller and more intense
than seminars.
This format often involves students or participants
practicing their new skills during the event under
the watchful eye of the instructor.
Hands-on Workshops typically involve
participants doing work on a particular issue
during the program.
Mr.C.Thatchinamoorthy
Difference
(Seminar / Workshop/ Conference / Symposium)
A workshop implies that the participants will
be learning actively, rather than simply
listening. A symposium is a gathering in a
field of study to hear experts expound on their
work. However, a seminar might have several
speakers or a panel of speakers and in that way
resemble a conference or symposium.

Methods of information colleting
–Primary source
–Secondary source
• A primary source is an original source that
documents an event in time, a person or an
idea. Some examples of primary sources
are: raw data.
• Secondary source – second hand information
eg. Web source, journals, books, thesis etc.
Mr.C.Thatchinamoorthy
Abstract
• An abstract is a brief summary of a research
article, thesis, review, conference proceeding,
or any in-depth analysis of a particular subject
and is often used to help the reader quickly
learn the paper's purpose.
Mr.C.Thatchinamoorthy
Cont…..
• The abstract allows a researcher to quickly evaluate the
content of your paper, and judge whether it’s relevant to
their research.
• As a result, an abstract needs to convey a complete synopsis
of the paper, but within a tight word limit. This restriction is
where the difficulties lie.
• You will be given a maximum word count for an abstract,
such as 200 - 300 words, and it is essential that you remain
within this limit.
Mr.C.Thatchinamoorthy
Cont…..
• Writing an abstract includes
briefly introducing the general topic of the
work and then explaining the exact research
question, including the aims.
• It should then include a brief description of
the methodology, the results and
the discussion.
