7.  Situational language teaching is an approach
developed by British applied linguist in the 1930s to the
1960.
 It dated from 1930s to the 1960s and which had an
impact on language courses . Many teachers are still
using this approach .
 The oral Approach and situational language
teaching relied on the structural view of language . Both
speech and structure were seen to be the basic of
language and especially, speaking ability .

 Vocabulary was seen as an essential component of
reading proficiency .

 Also the interest was focus on the grammatical
content of a language course . It has been believe that
an analysis of English and a classification of its
principal grammatical structures into sentence

the rules and sentence structures .

 This method involved the systematic principles of
 Selection by which lexical and grammatical content
was chosen ,
 Gradation by which the organization and
sequencing of content were determined ,
 Presentation by which techniques used for
presentation and practice of items in a course.
 This was not to be confused with the direct method,
although it used oral procedures , lacked a systematic
basis in applied linguistic theory and practice .

teachers .
