Balram Halwai is the narrator of The White Tiger. He grows up in a poor village in India and loses his parents at a young age. Though intelligent, he must leave school to work and support his family. He eventually gets a job working for a wealthy family in Delhi as a driver. Over time, he becomes disillusioned with the class system and murders his master, stealing his money. He then uses this money to start his own business, revealing how he transformed from a poor village boy to a self-made entrepreneur through cunning and crime.
