Panchgavya is a mixture made from five cow products - urine, milk, ghee, curd, and dung. It has various agricultural and medicinal benefits. When used as a fertilizer or spray, it improves soil fertility and plant growth by increasing nutrients in the soil and uptake by plants. It also benefits livestock - adding it to cow feed and water increases milk yield, and mixing it with poultry and fish feed improves growth and health. Several institutions in India research and promote the uses of panchgavya. In a case study, panchgavya application increased various metrics of rice plant growth and yield compared to untreated plants.

3. Panchgavya is a term used to describe five major substances,
obtained from cow, which include cow’s urine, milk, ghee,
curd and dung.
All the five products possess medicinal properties against
many disorders and are used for the medicinal purpose singly
or in combination with some other herbs. This kind of
treatment is called Panchgavya therapy or cowpathy. It is a
system of medicine just like as homeopathy, allopathy or
naturopathy.
The Panchgavya products show many applications viz.
excellent agricultural applications in the form of
biofertilizers, vermicompost and biopesticides, which
improves soil fertility and provide food grains free from the
health hazards of using chemical fertilizers/pesticides.

DAY 1 : Mix Cow Dung And Ghee Very Thoroughly and
leave it for 3 days.

6. DAY 4 : Add all other ingredients (cow urine, curd, milk,
banana, jaggery and coconut water) and leave it for
another 10-15 days.

7. DAY 18 : Panchgavya is filtered and ready to
be used.

8. RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
SPRAY SYSTEM :
3% solution was found to be most effective compared to the higher and lower
concentrations investigated. Three litres of Panchagavya to every 100 litres of water is
ideal for all crops. The power sprayers of 10 litres capacity may need 300 ml/tank. When
sprayed with power sprayer, sediments are to be filtered and when sprayed with hand
operated sprayers, the nozzle with higher pore size has to be used.
FLOW SYSTEM :
The solution of Panchagavya can be mixed with irrigation water at 50 litres per hectare either
through drip irrigation or flow irrigation
SEED/SEEDLING TREATMENT :
3% solution of Panchagavya can be used to soak the seeds or dip the seedlings before planting.
Soaking for 20 minutes is sufficient. Rhizomes of Turmeric, Ginger and sets of Sugarcane can be
soaked for 30 minutes before planting.
SEED STORAGE :
3% of Panchagavya solution can be used to dip the seeds before drying and storing them.

EFFECT ON SOIL
Panchgavya improves soil fertility by
increasing organic matter, macro and
micronutrient levels, and the uptake of
nutrients in plants, promoting the growth
and reproduction of micro-organisms
and maintaining good soil health. It also
progresses the physical properties of soil
by increasing the porosity and balancing
the soil aggregate stability, regulating
soil pH and the soil's nutrient profile.

11. EFFECT ON DIFFERENT PARTS OF PLANTS AND
CROPS
The spraying of Panchgavya on leaves results
in the production of invariably bigger leaves
and denser canopy; enhances photosynthetic
material, which results in maximum
production of metabolites and
photosynthates. It also develops side shoots
from the trunk carrying the maximum number
of fruits to maturity; rich and high branching;
rich and dense roots grow in deeper soil
layers. Furthermore, it helps plants and crops
remain fresh for a longer time with a high
intake of nutrients and water .

12. BENEFITS IN LIVESTOCK
COWS :
By mixing Panchagavya with animal feed and water at the rate of 100 ml per cow per day, cows become
healthier with increased milk yield, fat content and SNF. The rate of conception increased. Instead of
spraying urea on paddy straw (hay) before staking, a few farmers sprayed the 3 percent solution of
Panchagavya, layer after layer during the staking and allowed it to ferment. The cows preferred such hay
compared to unsprayed hay stock.
POULTRY :
When mixed with the feed or drinking water at the rate of 1 ml per bird per day, the birds became disease-
free and healthy. They laid bigger eggs for longer periods. In broiler chickens the weight gain was
impressive and the feed-to-weight conversion ratio improved.
FISH :
Panchagavya was applied daily with fresh cow dung in fish ponds. It increased the growth of algae, weeds
and small worms in the pond, thus increasing the food availability to fish. The only precaution is that fresh
water must be added to the ponds at frequent intervals. Otherwise, the growth of algae, weeds and other
organisms will compete with the fish for available soluble oxygen in water. Alternatively, mechanical
agitators can also be used to increase the oxygen content in the water. In ten months time each fish grew
to a weight of 2 to 3 kgs. With reduced death rate of small fingerlings and increased weight of marketable
fish, the fisheries became more profitable.

16. CONCLUSION
It can be inferred that Panchgavya/ Cowpathy, a new version
of ancient science, is definitely a promising formulation in
the years to come. It should gain popularity not only in
traditional families but also in highly educated and scientific
society. An integrated approach is necessary to promote the
highly valuable virtues and wide applications of Panchgavya.
Therefore, educating people about the benefits of cow and
Panchgavya can provide solution to problems of shortage of
food grains, fuel, shelter, good health, nutrition, eradication
of poverty, and unemployment and as alternate source of
energy
