This document describes a practical session on building a national student registry system for Palestine. It discusses setting up a central registry to manage student profiles and academic records across universities in Palestine. This will allow easy transfer of student records between universities and certification of diplomas by the Ministry of Higher Education. The registry can support various services, like generating transcripts for students (GTS). Students will individually use BPEL and Windows Workflow to invoke the GTS web service and print transcripts for given students based on their academic records in the central registry.

5. Practical Session (National Student Registry)
Description:
Based on the last practical session in this tutorial: “The central
management of students’ profiles by the ministry of education is becoming
an urgent need in the last years. Many students in Palestine move from
one university to another, and they need to transfer their academic
records. Also, the ministry of higher education needs to certify the
diplomas and mark sheets of students. Moreover, there is a need to
centrally manage/monitor students financial aids. Therefore, the ministry of
higher education has decided to build a national student registry, such that,
each semester every university has to send the academic record of its
students to the ministry of higher education. The ministry will then update
and integrate the academic records according to the data combined from
all universities into the national student registry.”
The ministry can implement many services on top of the national student
registry. Generate a transcript for a given student (GTS) is one of them.

6. Practical Session (National Student Registry)
• Each student should work alone.
• WS-BPEL is very much a subset of what can be represented using Windows
Workflow Foundation (WF) in Visual Studio.
• Build a process using Workflow to print the student transcript as follows:
• Import the WSDL file of the web service.
• Define the partner link.
• Invoke the GTS service.
