He was Pakistan's most successful cricket
captain.
In 1996, Khan founded a political
party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Between 2011 and 2013, Khan and Nawaz
Sharif began to engage each other in a bitter
feud.
The rivalry between the two leaders grew in
late 2011 when Khan addressed his largest
crowd at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore.

4. Nawaz Sharif is the 18th and current Prime
Minister of Pakistan in office since June
2013.
Nawaz Sharif started his political career
during the period of nationalisation
policies introduced by former Prime
minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Toppled by the military in 1999, jailed and
then exiled, he returned to the country for
elections in 2008 before patiently biding his
time in opposition

On 25 May 1989, Qadri founded a political
party, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).
His party aims to introduce the culture of democracy,
promote economic stability, and improve the state of
human rights, justice, and women's roles in Pakistan.
On 22 February 2012, Qadri visited Delhi for a four-week
tour of India.
Qadri delivered a message of peace and said:
"Terrorism has no place in Islam", while addressing
the fatwa book launch in Delhi.

Nawaz Sharif and his party have been accused of rigging
during the election to Parliament in 2013.
The PTI-led by Khan sought Sharif's ouster for a fair probe
into the allegations that the general elections of 2013
were ragged.

8.  Pakistani police registered a murder case against
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and 20 others
 Sharif along with 20 other members have been
booked for their alleged involvement in the police
shootout on June 17.
 At least 14 civilian protesters were killed during that
shootout in Lahore.

party leader Imran Khan and cleric
Tahirul Qadri have been taking part in
a sit-in from Aug 15.
 At least eight people have been killed
and more than 300 people were
injured, claimed Khan and Qadri.
However, government officials
overruled reports of any casualty.
 Police informed that more than 100
civilians have been arrested.
 Islamabad police chief Khalid Khattak
was quoted as saying, "Many of them
(protesters) were armed with axes,
hammers and cutters, and I'm sure
they also have firearms though we
haven't seen one yet."

12. Army's intervention:
 Both Khan and Qadri accepted the role of the army
chief Raheel Sharif as a mediator and guarantor in
solving the current political impasse.
 After their meeting with the Army chief, blame game
began on Aug 28. While PM Nawaz Sharif claimed that
Khan and Qadri had wanted army chief as a
mediatator, Qadri denied such statements.

13. By urging both the government and the
protesters to refrain from using force, the
army has left Mr Sharif to sweat. If he orders
paramilitary troops to shoot to protect the
National Assembly, he risks an army
intervention to restore peace in the national
interest. If he dissolves his government and
calls fresh elections – which some supporters
say he may yet reluctantly do – he risks
losing power or returning with a weaker
government and the ignominy of having been
bullied into submission by a few thousand
protesters.
