8.  Asking favors from another generally generates
“hiya”.
 If the favor is not granted the person feels
shamed (“napahiya ako”)
 The other person is referred to thus “hiya ako”
(he shamed me).
 Too much importance is given to “hiya” when
one compares this value with those other
cultures.
 Hiya makes a person sensitive to others people’s
opinion; thus he gives way.
