Hurricanes can be up to 600 miles wide with winds spiraling inward at 75-200 mph. Unlike extropical cyclones, hurricanes have warm air at their center. The worst hurricane was Hurricane Andrew in 1992, which started in the Atlantic and hit the Bahamas and Florida with winds up to 175 mph, crossing Florida before strengthening over the Gulf of Mexico. The eye of the hurricane is the calmest part in the center with light winds and no rain.
