6. Major characters in “Paradise Lost”
God: The omnopotent,omniscient and the omnipresent creator of
the universe. God is allof,almost emotionless. He embodies pure
reason, and consequently his responses often seem cold. He gave
man free will. From Man’s free will, sin and death came into the
world but God will see that goodness rules in the end.
Satan: Probably the most famous quote about Paradise Lost is
William Blake’s statement that Milton was “Of the devil’s party
without knowing it". Besides this Satan also appears as heroic.

7. Adam: Before the fall Adam is nearly perfect human beings as can
be imagined. He is physically attractive, mentally adept, and
spiritually profound. The first human, created by God from the dust
of earth. He is part of God’s creation after the rebellious angles
have been defeated.
Eve: Eve is the simpler character than Adam. She is created from
Adam’s Rib as his helpmeet while she is beautiful, wise and able,
she is superior to Adam in her beauty.

 In Modern times Milton’s style first received general criticism
from T.S Eliot
 Eliot also points out about Milton’s style that
“What he could do well he did better than anyone else has
