The study investigates the in vivo anti-trypanosomal activity of the ethanolic root extract of Carissa spinarum on mice infected with Trypanosoma brucei brucei. The extract demonstrated some dose-dependent suppressive effects but no significant curative effects were recorded, with a median lethal dose determined to be ≥ 100mg/kg body weight. The findings suggest potential for further exploration of Carissa spinarum as a treatment for trypanosomiasis, indicating significant anti-trypanosomal properties but also highlighting cumulative toxic effects at high doses.
