• Percy Bysshe Shelley was one
of the Major English
Romantic poet.
• He is a Poet, Author,
Novelist, Activist and also
Essayist.
• He was born in 4th August,
1792 and died in 8th July,
1822.
• He was known as Mad
Shelley among the youth.

ABOUT OZYMANDIAS POEM:-
•Ozymandias is a Sonnet. It’s contains 14 Lines.
•It is a written by Percy Bysshe Shelley.
•It was a first published in the 11th January, 1818.
•Ozymandias was a Greek name for the Pharaoh
Ramesses II, derived from a Part of his throne name.
•The Pharaoh also known as Ramesses the great or
Ozymandias.
ABOUT OZYMANDIAS POEM:-
• In Shelley’s work, the statue of the ancient Egyptian Pharaoh
Rames II, or Ozymandias.
• It is symbolizes the political tyranny.
• This poem also focusses on the fact that nobody can beat time.
• He considered himself to be the greatest ruler.
• But he had to die eventually and now it is broken status.
• Now, let’s see the line by line explanation about poem.
• The first stanza begins with the Poet
mentioning that he meets a traveller from
an antique land.
• As mentioned above, Ozymandias is the
Greek name for the Egyptian Pharaoh
Ramesses II.
• Here antique land refers to Old Egypt.
• The Traveller tells the poet about an old
and broken sculpture.
• According to him, there were two big (vast)
leg of stone standing in the desert without
the upper body.
• Near the legs, was a broken head or face of
the sculpture which was half buried in the
sand.
• The Traveller now describes the
appearance of the face.
• It had a frown and wrinkled lips on its face
indicating displeasure and anger
respectively.
• The scene of cold command is the next
expression of the sculpture described in the
poem.
• These words were engraved on the pedestal of the
sculpture –
• My name is Ozymandias , king of kings: look on my works
( Achievements in war and expanding his empire).
• The words on the pedestal Represent Ozymandias’s nature
very vividly.
• He was a powerful ruler.

•Further he tells that there is nothing left now,
that is Ozymandias is no more, his ego is one,
his might is gone and his empire is not there.
•Only the broken, destroyed and ruined
sculpture stands alone in desert.

CONCLUSION:-
• Thus, we can say that the major theme behind Ozymandias is
that all power is temporary, no matter how prideful or tyrannical
a ruler.
• Poem leaves a message that wealth and position don’t last
forever.
• Real power is winning the hearts.
• So winning the hearts of the people is real victory.
