Teaching Philosophy

“I believe in you.”
If it’s right for the kids, do it.
There’s a difference between teaching, and reaching.
Children need to be motivated, feel safe & happy in their environment so that they are confident to take risks. They also need to be responsible for themselves and their learning.
Taught throughout the year:
conventions such as spelling, punctuation, and grammar
the stages of the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, editing, revising & publishing
Number is taught ongoing throughout the entire year.
Mental math is a very important part of the math programme.
Balance between “romance & rigour.”
Real-life problem solving
Student’s prior knowledge

Student uses all of what they have learned to accomplish a task or tasks
A range of forms will be used to communicate meaningful feedback with an aim to provide a well rounded picture of your child’s progress.
Home Learning will NOT be assigned everyday. When there is homework it will usually be in the form of a project or discussion that requires home assistance.
* school policy states that in grade 2 homework should be a maximum of 40 min per night (including Chinese and 20 min of reading)
