Only by communicating can someone in IT understand the clients real needs and
have the client realise that their needs have been met. Excellent products done
the way the programmer thinks they should be done, which isn't what the client
wanted, and which the client doesn't appreciate the excellence of the result - is a
total waste of time.

Editor's Notes

  • #6 (Note: a one year after graduation salary for a primary school teacher with a degree is $46,000)
  • #9 These are quite similar. This poses the question, is our education geared to meet this expectation of teamwork?
  • #11 Again, not dissimilar. Students would like more multimedia and less communication than the employers – but not by much. Again, the challenge – does our education meet this expectation? (eg of about 23% communication?) (the smaller error bars for students reflect the larger sample size).
  • #26 Red bars represent employers perception of these activities in terms of likelihood of employing candidate who described this activity during a job interview.
