1. An Unemployed DelegateEngineer
The number of fields coming into being is far higher than expectations. Being jobless is worse than
being a homeless because a homeless man has nothing to lose but an educated man who is capable
and a pioneer of his field wanders in almost every company, firm organization with no outcome
things then about to get hurt. Like other professions, Engineers are also going through this wrath
of the job seekers. Some of the questions the rose in my mind are: Why engineers are not pro-
active during their bachelors? Why there’s lack of exposure? What are statistical reasons of
Engineers failing in interviews? How potential are the Engineers and Companies to find each
other? Is Educational Source is greater than the Financial/bribed source? Why Every Company
demands experienced workers? Is lack of discipline, rigidity, lack of knowledge, ignorant attitude
and pathetic syllabus is responsible for unemployment of engineers? The last question depicts the
current circumstances of Engineers. Majority of the engineering companies and universities have
failed to provide good internships and training programs, 60% Engineers have no idea what the
industry looks like, this happens due to lack exposure of the field.
According to a recent study, researchers found that the syllabus taught to Engineers is based either
on unwanted need of it or too easy or irrelevant to their specialization and when they’re taught,
either they are not that competent to go into the market or don’t know anything about it. The result
of this comes in a failure in interview when they ask some questions regarding something and the
interviewee answers what he was told or taught (apart from answering what they want). Without
any doubt, No Company or organization wants to hire ignorant engineers, a sloppy engineer who
could barely write a code or troubleshoot a circuit would not have any position no matter how hard
he tries because sometimes the problem is not what Engineers have, sometimes the problem is
what Companies want and that’s kind of a hard to cope and deal with. A single piece of paper
doesn’t determines how qualify and educated you are, ability and skills lies within.
Most of the Engineers are not able to work independently if once they’re hired. Engineers
sometime lack their imagination and brainstorming skills, they are to be treated with strict
instructions some engineers have strengths like working under pressure but that’s just one thing to
say. A lot of companies are having the same problem, their engineers only follow their orders and
by doing that they don’t use their brain to think a bit and we lack thinkers that’s why most of the
companies are stuck with so called obedient workers. Also lack of discipline is another major issue
faced by companies and universities, Engineers lack leadership and motivation skills and not to be
mistaken communication skills. If you’re a topper and you don’t know how to communicate in
English or How to be precise and concise in your answer than I sure have some bad news for you.
It took years to understand the linguistic barrier and Engineers don’t bother to cope it. That’s really
not acceptable Engineers should help their selves to develop such skills which are beneficial for
them in future. They all should be principle centered rather than Society or Media driven. Media
also plays an important role if we look at the ratio of 2009, 48% jobs are directly related to Media
and indirectly from Engineering. This means that by the end of 2018 there will be 3% jobs left for
2. Engineers all over the world and that’s a big reason to worry about not only for engineers but
others too, patience is the answer to many questions. Attitude is also a problematic but sometime
a solution in industry for engineers. The recruiters play a vital role in it, If something has been
done wrongly and the engineer knows it and accepts it before it becomes a headache of the
company resulting loss of Billions, this shows a positive confident attitude which is very
appreciated by many recruiters and companies. That is as well one the places where engineers fails
to prove their worth and value, what attitude they are carrying. Learning from mistakes by
accepting them is the first step to be confident in what you are doing.
Now talking about some of the other 45% reasons of unemployment of Engineers, Experience.
Every 2nd firm, company wants experienced engineers because they don’t want to spoil their value
and equipment at the same time. Due to this, 76% Engineers don’t apply when they see an
experience requirement in the Job Ad. How on earth can a Fresh Graduate be experienced at the
same time? The money making companies either want experienced engineers or makes recruitment
program so heavy and hard that only the chosen-A lbert-Einstein ones passes. Every Company
wants topper, every single firm out there wants position holders, they do not care how badly or
good you are practically as long as you have one piece of paper which states that you’re good.
Now they have another way to reject engineers, first they put job advertisements, when engineers
apply they first send them to probation/training/internship session of either one month or three
months with stipend. Then after using engineers like servants, treating them like garbage,
considering them useless and minor, they tell them that if you’re performance was good you will
be called for an interview but hey guess what? They never call you, they will never ever call you
why? Because that’s against their interest. This is still happening in Oil and Gas Companies.
The career planning and visions during the bachelors is very important, Engineers must indulge
their selves in creating new ideas and thinking of betterment, not always focusing their selves but
the society too. This is the centering reason of failing Engineers, not understanding the importance
of their final year project as it will be their portfolio.
