Music Video shoot
My group filmed a music video for the song "USSR" by Rejjie Snow over two days in London locations. On the first day they filmed scenes in Brick Lane and Oxford Street using a Canon DSLR camera, tripod, stabilizer and Bluetooth speakers to play the track. The second day they finished filming in Brick Lane, where they experienced some disturbances but overall found the area clear to film. They gained permission to film on private property during the shoot. The music video took 9 hours total to film over the two days, and the actors arrived on time and learned their lyrics properly.
Day 2 evidence
Day 2 of filming captured additional footage needed to complete their album cover, social media, and music video clips. While some unique shots were collected, other footage did not align with the storyboard, risking accuracy. At the second location, a desolate field worked well for lyrics about being alone, but Aaron's lip synching was slightly off in some takes. The third location, a graffiti wall, provided colorful backgrounds but some of Aaron's lip synching scenes were also a little off, something the director should have noticed to improve.
Day 1 evidence
The first day of filming went well overall. The group found beautiful natural locations with good lighting that fit the artist's style. They were productive in scouting multiple locations despite limitations of not having a car. Test shots like close-ups of shoes at different locations went according to plan. However, when reviewing the footage, they realized the outfit worn by the artist did not match the genre of the music, so none of the footage could be used and everything would need to be refilmed. This was disappointing but an expected risk that sometimes footage will not work out and require being refilmed.
Filming & Editing Updates

Scenes were filmed based on actor and location availability for that day. Several outdoor locations around York like the river, woods, and park were used. Indoor locations included an office set in a college and shop interior. Expenses were minimal as the cast and crew volunteered their time and used their own props. Overdose presentation
- 1. OVERDOSE
- 2. STRENGTHS -We all worked hard in our specific roles and communicated well within a group. -Good location (Josh’s house) and availability. Low budget for our film. -quite complex structure and use a motif for symbolism. -The connotations of the shots, and thought that went into them is a very positive aspect of our film.
- 3. Recurring Motif – blue lights/ police sirens
- 4. LIGHTINGTO CONNOTE MEANING Through use of lighting and positioned shadow we were able to connote themes including Amber’s entrapment and her boyfriend’s power in the relationship . Connotes that he is distant in the relationship yet overpowering. Prison cell bars- Isolated
- 5. SOUND DESIGN We wanted to convey Amber’s Isolation and paranoia through the sound scape. We re-recorded connective sounds (such as doors, tv/radio and general atmos) to ensure continuity Use of Non-digetic ambient sounds for emphasis of Amber’s mind set. We also used sounds from archive sources- Audiomicro for SFX, incompetech/mobygratis for music. Equalising and editing frequencies to match editing pace.
- 6. PRODUCTION DIFFICULTIES Location- we had to change our original location plan. Time limit was a big problem for post production.We had to cut a lot of the scenes down and also some scenes all together. Re-shoot- didn’t have enough time/ some shots didn’t work and needed re- shooting. One of our main actors ‘Dean’ could not drive.We worked round this by the different use of camera angles to hide this problem. Also Emily (sound recordist) drove the car instead, which meant that we couldn’t record the sound. The weather- effected some shots, due to the sun and also we had to block out the natural light out of some shots by using black cardboard on the windows. Time schedule for the actors-We had to film two different days due to their availability.
