HSL is responsible for public transportation planning and services in the Helsinki region of Finland. It is working to improve its map production processes by making OpenStreetMap (OSM) its primary data source and developing map products based on customer needs. Key initiatives include developing a consistent HSL map style based on OSM Bright, building tools to generate route maps and traffic bulletins from OSM data, and working with the OSM community through mapathons and imports to improve mapping in the region. Challenges remain around data quality and classification in OSM, and future plans include expanding validation and introducing new map products.
