Introduction:
The word “HUJRA” is taken from Pakhton traditional space, which means a traditional common
space of a Pakhton Society, which is an important traditional social institution for collective
decision-making, conflict resolution, information sharing and social development. Hujra
organization is non-profit able, non-political, non-ethnic and development oriented local
organization working in KPK and FATA of Pakistan. Honey value Chain Development Project is
of the project of HJARA organization, seeking to substantially raise incomes of Beekeepers of
ten Union Council of Swat (Shin, Ser Teligram, Janu Chamtali, Miandam, Fatehpur, Darmai,
Sakhra, Gualerai, Beha and Beshigram).
Beekeeping, the practice of artificially maintaining honey Bee colonies is one of the older forms
of food production. Formally known as apiculture, beekeeping is thought to have been practiced
as early as 13,000 BC. The ancient Egyptians were particularly skilled in the art of beekeeping.
Although most people associated with beekeeping exclusively with collection of honey, there are
many other ways modern beekeepers can earn an income from the colonies for beeswax,
propullus, royal jelly, pollens, which are of immense importance.
The importance of honey as medicine is also clear from Holly Quraan and Hadith. In Pakistan
beekeeping is also popular buisness. In Swat, beekeeping is also practicining from years but due
to lack of eduaction and skill the production of beekeeping is not very fruitful. Mostly men used
traditional mud hives which are not useful and cause low production.
Honey value chain development project is one of the main projects of the HUJRA organization
which work for local beekeepers for the purpose to build their capacities regrading modern
beekeeping to increase honey production and to develop their marketing linkages.
The report covers eleven trainings imported during July to October 2013 shown in the annex (A).

To build capacity of the community for understaking socio-economic
development in honey bee with the conservation of their natural resources.

  • 5. Introduction: The word “HUJRA” is taken from Pakhton traditional space, which means a traditional common space of a Pakhton Society, which is an important traditional social institution for collective decision-making, conflict resolution, information sharing and social development. Hujra organization is non-profit able, non-political, non-ethnic and development oriented local organization working in KPK and FATA of Pakistan. Honey value Chain Development Project is of the project of HJARA organization, seeking to substantially raise incomes of Beekeepers of ten Union Council of Swat (Shin, Ser Teligram, Janu Chamtali, Miandam, Fatehpur, Darmai, Sakhra, Gualerai, Beha and Beshigram). Beekeeping, the practice of artificially maintaining honey Bee colonies is one of the older forms of food production. Formally known as apiculture, beekeeping is thought to have been practiced as early as 13,000 BC. The ancient Egyptians were particularly skilled in the art of beekeeping. Although most people associated with beekeeping exclusively with collection of honey, there are many other ways modern beekeepers can earn an income from the colonies for beeswax, propullus, royal jelly, pollens, which are of immense importance. The importance of honey as medicine is also clear from Holly Quraan and Hadith. In Pakistan beekeeping is also popular buisness. In Swat, beekeeping is also practicining from years but due to lack of eduaction and skill the production of beekeeping is not very fruitful. Mostly men used traditional mud hives which are not useful and cause low production. Honey value chain development project is one of the main projects of the HUJRA organization which work for local beekeepers for the purpose to build their capacities regrading modern beekeeping to increase honey production and to develop their marketing linkages. The report covers eleven trainings imported during July to October 2013 shown in the annex (A). Page |5

To enable males beekeepers to generate income and sustained their economic development. To build capacity of the community for understaking socio-economic development in honey bee with the conservation of their natural resources. Page |6
