The Maharashtra Rural Prosperity Mission aims to achieve overall human development outcomes in 27 high priority blocks across 13 districts of Maharashtra by 2022. The key objectives are to reduce extreme poverty, improve and strengthen livelihood sectors like agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries and non-farm enterprises, and enhance household incomes. The project will directly cover 27,000 households and indirectly impact 2.7 lakh households across the identified blocks. It will be implemented over 4 years in two phases focusing on demonstrated multi-thematic interventions at the household level across eight drivers of the rural economy.

Objectives:

2. To improve and strengthen the existing livelihoods sector and promoting new livelihoods
opportunities by integrating the technologies and best practices available from local and global
experiences.
3. To promote multi-thematic interventions at the household level in eight major drivers for rural
economy i.e. Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, Handloom & Handicrafts,
Non farm enterprises, Skilling and Irrigation
4. To enhance the income potential of households reach 1.3x through multi-layered livelihoods
interventions
5. To design interventions and explore partnerships with public, private and social organisations
for the benefit of the project

Coverage and Duration
Coverage:
• 27 HDI blocks spread across 13 districts (as per the list by Action Room)
• 27000 households across the identified blocks directly and 2.7 lakhs indirectly
• The villages in the block will be taken in clusters for demonstration and impact. The villages
will be representative comprising of different social, geographical, resource availability and
livelihoods.
Duration: Proposed duration of the project is four years
• Phase 1 from 1st April 2018 – 31st March 2019 (16 blocks from Jalna, Buldana, Nandurbar,
Chandrapur, Gondia, Bhandara and Ghadchiroli)
• Phase 2 from 1 April 2019 – 31st March 2022 (All the 27 Blocks of 13 districts)

Expected Outcomes
• Improvement in the livelihoods and income potential of the target beneficiaries in
a sustainable manner
• Strengthening of various village level institutions such as SHGs, FPOs, VSS etc.,
through capacity building and handholding
• Demonstrate and replication of innovative and technologically advanced
interventions in various themes, creating better income enhancement potential
• Farmers are able to realize better productivity and price realization through
technical advisory and marketing linkages
• The farmers, women and youth are capacitated and gain entrepreneurial skills

1) Lakhpathi Kisan: Executed by the Central India Initiative (cInI), this program enhances agri- &
allied livelihood opportunities. Currently being executed in Dhule & Nandurbar.
2) Convergence of Agriculture Interventions in Maharashtra: This program looks at the FPO
formation & Strengthening; Agribusiness and commodity marketing; IPM, Mkrishi etc. Working
in Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal.
3) Diary Value Chain Development : Linking rural farmers to procurement system through
collaboration with National Diary Services. Operating in Yavatmal district
4) Poultry program: Establishing women producer collectives for livelihood enhancement through
poultry business in partnership with National Small-holder Poultry Development Trust (NSPDT)
and GoMH. Working in Chandrapur district
5) Open Source Fisheries Initiative: Unleashing the potential of freshwater resources through
Knowledge Creation and Dissemination; Ecosystem development and Market Linkages.

Partners
• The livelihoods component of the Rural Prosperity Mission will be managed by Vijayavahini
Charitable Foundation (VCF). VCF is a section 8 company initiated by Tata Trusts for direct
implementation of livelihoods programmes across the region. VCF will play the lead project
management role, on behalf of Tata Trusts. VCF would also pilot demonstrate the multilayered
,livelihoods interventions and seek convergence with NABARD and Dept.
• VRUTTI: Established in 2002 as a not-for-profit organisation, Vrutti works in six states through
cluster approach with smallholder agriculture. Worked on multiple commodities across the value
chains. It has worked with Responsible supply chain, strengthening of FPOs
• ICSD:Intercooperation Social Development India is registered as a Not for Profit Company under
Section 8 of the Indian Companies Act 2013. It specialises on climate resilient agriculture, animal
husbandry, FPO, Cashew, Value chain and Organic certification
• Centre for Bee Development: Centre for Bee Development (CBeeD) is a registered non-
governmental organization (NGO), functioning since 2000, as a technology resource group in the
field of rock bee management. It propagates the necessary knowledge for the non-violent
harvesting of rock bee honey and wax, their post-harvest storage, processing, product
diversification, quality control and market promotion.
• Jain and Khetworks: Pico Solar irrigation pumps which are cost effective, potable and easy to
maintain for a small and marginal farmers, where water tables are relatively better
