we have discussed how campaigns are affected by public opinion, especially because the debates had
just begun. Right now, while candidates are trying to win their respective party nominations, they are
going to try to appeal to the opinions of Republicans and Democrats separately. Hillary Clinton and
Bernie Sanders are not trying to appeal to the same base as Donald Trump and Jeb Bush. These polls
are meaningful and candidates should be mindful of them, because people care about this issue. The
three polls I have examined are similar in numbers, but there is a bit of disparity between the Hart
Research Associates and Public Opinion Strategies and CBS News and the New York Times poll and
the poll done by Quinnipiac University. The percentage of respondents saying that there should be a
pathway to citizenship in the poll collaborated on by Hart and Public Opinion Strategies was 47%, but
55% in the Quinnipiac poll, and 61% in the CBS/New York Times poll for the final days of July. A
14% difference seems to be a significant difference, especially when one number is not a majority of
the population. Over the time of the debate period, the numbers have stayed in the upper 50s. For that

Many researchers believe that individuals with PTSD are on a high risk of violence. Although, all
research studies are not on the same page regarding this proclamation. The research findings published
on the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs say that despite of PTSD being associated with increased
risk of violence, most veterans and non veterans have never engaged in violence. When factors like
alcohol and drug misuse, additional psychiatric disorders or younger age are considered, the
association between PTSD and violence is decreased [39].

a particular person deceive, but also the eyes of the person watching them. In King Lear, Shakespeare

Discuss the female characters in Candide. Are they victims, or natural survivors? Do they deserve
more pity or more admiration? Take one side only.
In Voltaire s Candide, there is a young fellow that falls in love with a lady. She is kidnapped and the
protagonist, Candide, embarks on a journey to find his love. I believe that he doesn t really love this
young lady, Cunegonde, he is in love with her looks (or is in lust, if you will). We discover that he
really doesn t love her at the end of the novel, but they still marry. The other female characters have
similar backstories and are also seen as a body of desire. The only one that is not seen this way is an
old woman. Regardless of age, all of the women have issues or tragic lives. I pity these people that
have to live in a position that is seen as inferior to the majority of men. While I pity them, I also see
how strong they are, and what they have endured in their lifespan.
A character that is deserving of pity is Cunegonde. Cunegonde came from a line of high ranking
people who are killed later in the novel. She was also kidnapped and raped by Bulgarians. She had to
have sex with two men that were sharing her. When Candide finds her for the first time, the only thing
that he cares about is how beautiful she is. He sees her and immediately believes that he is in love with
her. Later on, in the novel, Candide finds her once again. This time though, she is old and hasn t aged
well. Candide marries her and makes it known to the reader that it wasn t out of love, it was out of
pity. I believe that this character is deserving of more pity, because no one deserves to go through the
things that she has. No one took the time to get to know her. Candide didn t really care that much
about her when he saw that she wasn t beautiful anymore. Pacquette is a character that deserves pity
because her life was great until she started having sex with Pangloss and gave him syphilis. As a
result, she ran out of money and became broke and she had no other option but to resort to
prostitution. On Candide s journey to find Cunegonde he lands in Venice with martin and recognizes
Pacquette and felt pity for her and he gave her a generous amount of money. Candide gave two

In this essay I shall compare James Scott s theory of power and resistance with Michel Foucault s, as
in what similarities do they share in their structure of theories; and contrast the difference as in their
understanding of power, position they take to look for/into power, exercise of power and resistance in
response. By contrasting the two approaches on the subject of power and resistance, I shall argue, if
one wish to look for the powerful and the weak, Scott s approach is the go to. But for now, I find
Foucault s idea more plausible that we are surrounded by or inescapable from power, and that by any
means, are not necessarily forced to submission; rather as freedom the same time.
Firstly, I shall compare the similarities the two idea shares. Both Scott and Foucault think power is
more than being a form of coercion, that power is found in symbolic dimensions. Scott stated power
and resistance can be spotted and take forms in language and discourse, that is conversation,
statement, narratives made by the dominant and subordinates, in terms of what he purposes public
transcript and hidden transcript accordingly. Similarly, Foucault see power as coextensive with
language and discourse.
However, Scott and Foucault has very different understanding of power. Scott thinks power is
something that is externally imposed on mankind s social life, whereas Foucault thinks power is
