The document introduces AppliedMicro's X-Gene® processor technology. The X-Gene 1 and X-Gene 2 are server-on-a-chip solutions that integrate ARMv8 CPU cores, memory controllers, networking, storage and I/O interfaces while achieving high performance and low power. Benchmark results show the X-Gene processors providing competitive performance to Intel Xeon chips while using less power. The high-density, low-power X-Gene chips allow building scale-out servers that deliver significantly higher performance and lower costs than traditional scale-up servers for various workloads like web applications and databases.

It’s no news that containers represent a portable unit of deployment, and OpenStack has proven an ideal environment for running container workloads. However, where it usually becomes more complex is that many times an application is often built out of multiple containers. What’s more, setting up a cluster of container images can be fairly cumbersome because you need to make one container aware of another and expose intimate details that are required for them to communicate which is not trivial especially if they’re not on the same host.
These scenarios have instigated the demand for some kind of orchestrator. The list of container orchestrators is growing fairly fast. This session will compare the different orchestation projects out there - from Heat to Kubernetes to TOSCA - and help you choose the right tool for the job.

"Networking Quality of Service was introduced in Neutron in the Liberty cycle, the initial work included API additions and implementation of an extendable mechanism. The thought was to be able to accommodate all the crazy ideas network engineers have. We started with basic bandwidth limiting rule and then enhanced the mechanism to support upgrades, RBAC (Role Based Access Control), DSCP marking and more
In this session we would cover the the work that was done for supporting Networking QoS in Neutron as well as the near future plans in this domain."

Scaling OpenStack Networking Beyond 4000 Nodes with Dragonflow - Eshed Gal-Or...Cloud Native Day Tel Aviv
As OpenStack matures, more users move from “dipping a toe” to deploying at large scale, with 1000's of nodes.
OpenStack networking has long been a limiting factor in scaling beyond a few hundreds of nodes, forcing users to turn to cell splitting, or to complete offloading of the networking to the underlay systems and forfeit the overlay network altogether.
Dragonflow is a fully distributed, open source, SDN implementation of Neutron, that handles large scale deployments without splitting to cells.
In testing we've conducted, we were able to scale to 4000+ controllers (each controller is typically deployed on a compute node), while maintaining the same performance we had on a small 30 node environment.
Cumulus Linux 2.5 makes it easy to adopt modern DataCenter Networking.
With new options for network architecture and validated designs, it is easier to migrate to modern data center networks.
Making it easy
– Design: Drop in switch running Cumulus Linux in existing network architecture, simplify migration with validated designs
– Procure: Making it simpler with expanded channel partners coverage (42 WW + Dell)
-- Deploy: Making it easy to support with First class Support organization –24x7 Coverage WW

OpenStack Neutron with ML2 OVS has always been a challenging component in terms of performance and scalability. However, in recent releases, several enhancements and bug-fixes have resulted in significant improvements in overall reliability, performance and scalability of Neutron. In this presentation, we will share the results of our testing (both control-plane and data-plane) at large scale and provide a detailed data-driven analysis that explores the true scale limits and bottlenecks of Neutron.

Tackling Network Bottlenecks with Hardware Accelerations: Cloud vs. On-PremiseDatabricks
The ever-growing continuous influx of data causes every component in a system to burst at its seams. GPUs and ASICs are helping on the compute side, whereas in-memory and flash storage devices are utilized to keep up with those local IOPS. All of those can perform extremely well in smaller setups and under contained workloads. However, today's workloads require more and more power that directly translates into higher scale. Training major AI models can no longer fit into humble setups. Streaming ingestion systems are barely keeping up with the load. These are just a few examples of why enterprises require a massive versatile infrastructure, that continuously grows and scales. The problems start when workloads are then scaled out to reveal the hardships of traditional network infrastructures in coping with those bandwidth hungry and latency sensitive applications. In this talk, we are going to dive into how intelligent hardware offloads can mitigate network bottlenecks in Big Data and AI platforms, and compare the offering and performance of what's available in major public clouds, as well as a la carte on-premise solutions.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
