Docker at Shopify: From This-Looks-Fun to Production by Simon Eskildsen (Shop...Docker, Inc.
Since July 2014 Shopify's been serving thousands of requests per second of production web traffic from Docker containers. This was an 8 month effort, with multiple pivots of direction from the team—and we're only getting started. This talk covers the lessons learned through the trial and error of an in-flight architecture redesign, spanning hundreds of hosts, as well as the technical vision of the future of our platform.
Scaling Development Environments with DockerDocker, Inc.
We set out to solve the problems of quickly building high quality games for a fragmented mobile market. Taking advantage of HTML5 allowed a fast, familiar and highly iterative local development process, and a hybrid build process for native apps meant high performance games on mobile. Our product is designed to comprehensively handle complex UI flows, related server tasks as well as deep integrations with any social platform. This is necessarily complex piece of engineering, with dozens of large dependencies, and 5 local web servers powering a single user’s experience. When we set out to make this easily available to 3rd parties, we used Docker to solve to major challenges: 1) Fitting many users, each with a unique development environment, on to one machine; 2) Managing all of these development environments in a scalable way.
This document is a presentation from OpenStack Summit Sydney. It describes how to easily install OpenStack on Kubernetes. It explains Kubernetes and OpenStack-Helm.

https://cloudinit.readthedocs.org/en/latest/
OSv is a new, high-performance OS for virtual machines in the cloud. Designed to run one application per guest with minimal overhead, OSv eliminates important bottlenecks for NoSQL applications through improvements in memory management, network I/O, and scheduling. And many important bottlenecks for NoSQL applications are tunable on a conventional OS, but do not require tuning in the OSv environment.
OSv is fully stateless and can be configured at runtime with cloud-init or through a REST API, with zero configuration files. OSv offers unified tracing from the application layer through the JVM and the OS kernel. Attendees will learn how to boot Cassandra in one second, and create a simple cluster in a minute.
In this slide, we discussed the IPVS, including the introduction, demonstration, implementation, and integration in Kubernetes.
IPVS was based on the netfilter and we discussed how it works with iptables and also compares the detail implementation in Kubernetes to show why IPVS has a better performance in IPTABLES.
In this meetup, Liran Cohen, Cloud platform & DevOps Team Leader, will talk about some of Kubernetes key concepts. We will learn about the architecture of the system; the different resources available in the system; the problems it’s trying to solve, and the model that it uses to manage containerized application deployments.

KubeCon EU 2016: A Practical Guide to Container SchedulingKubeAcademy
Containers are at the forefront of a new wave of technology innovation but the methods for scheduling and managing them are still new to most developers. In this talk we'll look at the kind of problems that container scheduling solves and at how maximising efficiency and maiximising QoS don't have to be exclusive goals. We'll take a behind the scenes look at the Kubernetes scheduler: How does it prioritize? What about node selection and external dependencies? How do you schedule based on your own specific needs? How does it scale and what’s in it both for developers already using containers and for those that aren't? We’ll use a combination of slides, code, demos to answer all these questions and hopefully all of yours.

Kubernetes for java developers - Tutorial at Oracle Code One 2018Anthony Dahanne
You’re a Java developer? Already familiar with Docker? Want to know more about Kubernetes and its ecosystem for developers? During this session, you’ll get familiar with core Kubernetes concepts (pods, deployments, services, volumes, and so on) before seeing the most-popular and most-productive Kubernetes tools in action, with a special focus on Java development. By the end of the session, you’ll have a better understanding of how you can leverage Kubernetes to speed up your Java deployments on-premises or to any cloud.
It’s no news that containers represent a portable unit of deployment, and OpenStack has proven an ideal environment for running container workloads. However, where it usually becomes more complex is that many times an application is often built out of multiple containers, as well as hybrid environments - diverse clouds, bare metal and even non-virtualized infrastructure. What’s more, setting up a cluster of container images can be fairly cumbersome because you need to make one container aware of another and expose intimate details that are required for them to communicate which is not trivial especially if they’re not on the same host.
These scenarios have instigated the demand for some kind of orchestrator. The list of container orchestrators is growing fairly fast. This session will compare the different orchestration projects out there - from Heat to Kubernetes to Mesos & Cloudify - and help you choose the right tool for the job.

Capacity planning is a difficult challenge faced by most companies. If you have too few machines, you will not have enough compute resources available to deal with heavy loads. On the other hand, if you have too many machines, you are wasting money. This is why companies have started investing in automatically scaling services and infrastructure to minimize the amount of wasted money and resources.
In this talk, Nathan will describe how Yelp is using PaaSTA, a PaaS built on top of open source tools including Docker, Mesos, Marathon, and Chronos, to automatically and gracefully scale services and the underlying cluster. He will go into detail about how this functionality was implemented and the design designs that were made while architecting the system. He will also provide a brief comparison of how this approach differs from existing solutions.

Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

• Metric 조회를 Query SQL / Web 관리 UI 제공
15. ‘Time + Counter’
Metric vs LOG
• Individual events
• Shaping before processing
• higher I/O and network requirements
• Scaling can be costly
• Great for Deep-dive and drill down
to individual events
‘Time + events’
• No shaping and Easy aggregation
• Quick to process & visualize
• Cost Efficient
• Great for Abnormal detection, trending
16. Metric vs LOG (Apache Access Log)
