SBR-process (Sequencing-Batch-Reactor) is the combination of the procedural functions “Aeration” and “Clarification” in one reaction tank. Here from a stable and flexible process flow results. Furthermore the SBR-process enables a compact plant design and a minimization of the investment costs. Because of the flexible plant geometry (tanks with circular, quadratic or rectangular footprint) SBR-wastewater treatment plants of w-wwt can be simply realized also under hindered project conditions (tourism areas, recreation centers, tower buildings etc.).

Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be
reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation. reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation.
Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.

disinfected and discharged

• Raw sewage is collected into septic tank
and supernatant passes through troughs
containing rotating disc that are partially
submerged in the sewage

7. Introduction to Membrane Treatment
1. Membrane Bioreactor (MBR)
• Membrane bioreactor MBR consisting of biological reactor with
suspended biomass and solid separation by microfiltration
membrane with nominal size ranging from 0.1 to 0.4 μm
• MBR system may be used with aerobic and anaerobic
suspended growth bioreactor to separate treated wastewater
from active biomass.
• It can be used for domestic and industrial wastewater
• MBR can operate at higher MLSS concentration thereby results
in high volumetric loading, shorter hydraulic retention time,
longer SRT results in less production, operation at low DO conc.
and high quality effluent in terms of low turbidity, bacteria, TSS
and BOD and less space
8. Introduction to Membrane Treatment
• The concept of MBR consists of utilising a
bioreactor and microfiltration as a one unit

10. 3. Fluidized membrane Bioreactor (FMBR)
• FMBR consist of fluidized bed of 0.4 to 0.5 mm size
sand or activated carbon. Bed depth are in the range of
3 to 4. The wastewater is fed upward and velocities of
30-36 m/hour.
• Sand or activated carbon act as a fluidized particles
which is a support media to the microorganism and the
membrane that permits treated water to pass but not
the organism.
• The fluidized particle come into direct contact with the
membrane the membrane come membrane maybe of
different types such as hollow tube membrane, tabular
membrane or flat sheet membrane.
11. • The FMBR can be used in two different mode one in
which membrane are placed within the biological
reactor itself and the other in which membrane
filtration is carried out in separate step following the
biological treatment system.
• The advantages of this system is improved retention
of biomass, reduction in membrane clogging by
sorption and scouring action of fluidized particles in
