Descriptive Essay About Titanic
Famous Maritime Disasters
For as long as people have been using wood to float on water, there have been maritime disasters. The
most we can do is mourn for dead, be sensitive to the trauma of the survivors, and learn from these
tragic experiences.
Let s look at five well known or somewhat well known maritime disasters.
RMS Titanic
It s been the subject of more than one film, and not just the 1997 James Cameron blockbuster. It s
even the subject of a musical (The Unsinkable Molly Brown).
But just what is it about the Titanic that captures the imagination? Part of it, surely, is the luxury of the
ship and a lot of its high class passengers. Another reason is the arrogance of referring to the ship as
unsinkable . Plus the tragic loss of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This American Great Lakes freighter was used to haul taconite iron ore from mines near Duluth in
Minnesota to the iron works in Toledo, Detroit, and other Great Lakes port cities. More than just a
workhorse, the Edmund Fitzgerald was also known for its speed. The ship set seasonal hauling records
six times during its working life, which spanned from 1958 to 1975.
The captain, Peter Pulcer, was known as the DJ Captain , for his habit of playing music while the ship
sailed between Lakes Erie and Huron through the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers. Music was played day
and night. Furthermore, Captain Pulcer would also entertain spectators between Lakes Huron and
Superior at the Soo Locks, with running commentary about the vessel. As a result, the ship was well
known to boat watchers.
On November 9, 1975, Captain Ernest McSorley commanded the ship on what should have been a
somewhat routine run from Superior, Wisconsin (near Duluth) to a steel mill near Detroit. On that day,
the Edmund Fitzgerald accompanied another freighter, the SS Arthur M. Anderson. However, the next
day, both ships were caught in a sudden storm with waves up to 35 feet and winds that were near
hurricane force. The Fitzgerald reported it was having some difficulties, but its last transmission to the
Anderson said that they were holding their own.
Just after 7:10 PM, the Fitzgerald suddenly sank about 17 miles from Whitefish Bay, on the Canadian
side, near Sault Ste.

Johnston Gate Research Paper
The Johnston Gate The monumental iron gates still stand today strong today. The gates overall
presence dividing the busy streets of Cambridge and the tranquility of Harvard Yard. Just north of
Harvard Square stands Johnston gate, for students to enter daily and for city goers and tourists to pass
by. Despite its bold and perhaps intimidating appearance, seas of people flood through to catch a
glimpse of Harvard Yard and to stop to take a picture with the famous John Harvard Statue. The gate
however, has not been present since the institution s founding. Samuel Johnston was a proud member
of Harvard s graduating class of 1855. Several years later, Johnston decided to donate 10,000 dollars
to build a gate, leading to the entrance of the famous Harvard Yard. The gate was designed by Charles
McKim, an architect and a graduate of Harvard. He designed the gates to have a lavish design, and to

People were outraged by the gates appearance due to it s overdone appearance. The complex design
was not seen as tasteful and contradicted the Puritan values that the school was founded upon. The
symbolism within the design of the gate still had a cross at the top of the fence representing the
Divinity School and Harvard s Puritan founding. The gate also displays a VERITAS shield on the
brick columns that the gate is supported by. Despite the controversial response when first constructed,
the gate still stands 126 years later. The gate is seen by many daily and welcomes students and visitors
to the Harvard we know today. From the very beginning the Johnston Gate was intended to be
Harvard Yard s main portal. Building the lavish iron gate was a way of making the entrance built to
last and also official. The grand entryway has a way of welcoming people to explore the famous sights

Geography The Caribbean was a name given to this region...
Geography The Caribbean was a name given to this region after becoming popular following World
War II, being previously referred to as the Indies because Columbus thought he finally reached South
Asia and the East Indies (Caribbean). This area includes more than 7,000 islands; of those, 13 are
independent island countries and some are dependencies or overseas territories of other nations. In
addition, that large number includes islets (very small rocky islands); cay s (small, low islands
composed largely of coral or sand) and a few inhabited reefs (Caribbean). The Caribbean includes the

The Christian faith became more wide spread into the Caribbean from the slaves bringing their own
practices and beliefs after being traded into the varying Caribbean regions. The end of slavery gave
the region encouragement and help in allowing other religions and practices to be brought into the
expansion of the islands. Majority of the Spanish and French immigrants believe in Roman Catholic
and in Trinidad and Tobago about one quarter of the island is of the Hindu faith. Rastafarian is a belief

religion and practices. The creole faith was brought to the island also by the slaves that were traded
during the slave trade. Creole has two different religions in its own being Vodou or Voodoo created by
the French speaking natives of Haiti, and Santeria created by Spanish speaking natives in Cuba.

Materialistic Items In The Great Gatsby
Materialistic possessions became the center of popularity in the 1920 s, life became all about who
could get the most Women and throw the biggest party. These materialistic items were used to acquire
other non materialistic things such as love and social status. These goals were often unattainable,
specifically for three characters in F. Scott Fitzgerald s , The Great Gatsby. Love and social status
were the unattainable dreams of Myrtle, the status driven cheater; Wilson, the shooter; and Gatsby; the
Daisy craving self made millionaire. Myrtle Wilson married George Wilson because she thought he

For students and teachers, having a chance to be in this cultural environment is a life s fortune.
Although today s social life is so different from the past, people are getting harder to focus on pure
academic research because of the distractions from daily affairs. Especially for higher degree students
that rely on independent research, which provides freedom, but also brings the problems of shallow
research. Currently, the higher degree education in contemporary ceramic art of Asian should
construct its own value system that suits Eastern culture and aesthetic. The views of above aspects had
formed the exhibition s main concept.
The Asian art academies are facing the same situation in the higher degree education of ceramic art.
The day to day teaching needs new energy and clear direction; the homogeneity in teaching should be

John Pilger s Documentary, Utopia
John Pilger s documentary, Utopia (2013) exposes the government s failure to invest in Aboriginal
communities and Australia s ongoing mistreatment of Indigenous Australians. The Aboriginal
community of Utopia in central Australia live in third world conditions and Pilger explores the
experiences of Indigenous Australians and what he terms the denigrating of their humanity (Pilger. J,
2013). The town, Utopia reveals that Indigenous health has not improved since Pilger s similar
documentary 28 years ago called The Secret Country (1985). This documentary draws on
documentary techniques and the power of language to position responders.
The composer uses the power of language through documentary techniques by providing facts.
Indigenous Australians experience many inequalities in their health. Pilger uses statistics to deliver the
hard facts about Indigenous health to position the responders to respond in a particular way. Statistics
ensures that the information being given is accurate, factual and believable. An example used in the
documentary is almost one third of Aboriginal people are dead before the age of 45 (Pilger. J, 2013).
The impact of using statistics means the viewer is less likely to dispute facts than opinion.
Pilger also uses the power of language through documentary techniques of using experts. The use of
experts portrays authority. Dr. Janelle Trees is a general practitioner of Mutitjulu and is interviewed in

David Tenier Research Paper
Flemish artist, David Teniers David Teniers II or David Teniers the younger was one of the most
famous and prominent artist of peasant life in the 17th century. He was born in Antwerp and his works
were influenced by his father, David Teniers the Elder, and his father in law, Jan Brueghel. In 1632,
Teniers became a master of a guild in St. Luke. He was later chosen to preside over the same guild in
St. Luke in 1644 ( David Teniers the Younger ). Teniers achieved noble status in 1663 and also
successfully lobbied for the establishment of an art school in his city (Van Vlieghe). Teniers is

Teniers flourished during the Dutch Golden Age, which was a period that roughly spanned the 17th
century. This particular piece of art by David Teniers as well as most of his other artworks can be
described as a genre painting. Genre paintings are artworks that depict ordinary life ( Genre Painting ).
Genre art depict everyday scenes, such as that of Winter Scene with a Man Killing a Pig. It shows the
motions of everyday life: market settings, domestic settings, party scenes, streets, inns, etc.; all that is
associated with the peasant life. In this particular painting, it tells the story of a winter day in a peasant
village where a ritual of life and death is occurring. There s also another interesting aspect to the
painting. The row of houses as well as the people are painted in warm earthy colors, which juxtaposes
the cool silvery tones of the rest of the painting ( Winter Scene with a Man Killing a Pig ). By doing
this, the viewer s eyes immediately look at the row of houses, then to the family, slaughtering the pig,
which is the story of the painting, the main focus. Also, eating pig for Christmas dinner was customary

After the fall of the Han dynasty, many Chinese people converted to Buddhism. They seeked a simpler
way of life among all of the chaos and political instability going on at the time. This led to a drop in
productivity in China, as many Buddhists spent their time meditating. The rise in Buddhism among
the lower class led to a hate for the religion by the upper class. While some people saw Buddhism as a
new form of thinking in China s evolving social landscape, many others saw it as a threat to the
traditional Chinese way of life, as they were reluctant to change.
Buddhism was favored by the poor, uneducated people of China, as it offered assurance to a better

times it is said that your eyes are the windows to your soul, in Fish Story the fish s eyes acted as a
symbolic window into the narrator s soul. Being a boy of 10 years old he is suspended between the
world of childhood innocence and raw uncensored adulthood. From early on the boy connects with the
fish as he is describing the fish s eyes, The fish, in turn, studied me with its round, obsidian eyes,
which had a gold lining to their perimeter, like pyrite (p. 1, par. 5, Bass, 2009). This shows the amount

seeing changes in the fish s appearance Immediately, or so it seemed to me, a fine wrinkling appeared
on the previously taut gunmetal skin of the fish a desiccation, like watching a time lapse motion
picture of a man s or woman s skin wrinkling as he or she ages, regardless of the man s or woman s
wishes to the contrary (p. 3, par. 24, Bass, 2009). With this reference he is implying the desire to stay

Age-Related Changes In The Male Reproductive System
Several age related changes occur in the male reproductive system. In some but not all men, the size
and weight of the testes decrease, with an associated decrease in the number of interstitial cells and a
thinning of the wall of the seminiferous tubules. These changes may be secondary to a decrease in
blood flow to the testes or to a gradual decrease in sex hormone production. In addition, the rate of
sperm cell production decreases, and the number of abnormal sperm cells produced increases.
However, sperm cell production does not stop, and it remains adequate for fertility for most men. Age
related changes become obvious in the prostate gland by age 40. By age 60, there is a clear decrease in

Interactive Slots Are The Future Of Casino Games. When
Interactive Slots are the future of Casino games
When you walk into a casino, the first thing to greet you upon your arrival is usually a bright and
shiny video lottery machine, better know as a slot machine. Slot machines are easy to play, and you
can play at your own pace without having to deal with other humans. They are comforting and simple,
leaving the user with an easy task of pushing a putting or pulling a lever. However, they hold a dirty
secret too. The worst odds of all the games you can play at a casino are those shiny slot machines,
with the house having an edge of 10% or more (compared to a 1% house edge in blackjack for
example). Casinos have designed their hotels to take advantage of this edge, placing slot machines as

After using these free online lessons to learn how to play these table games, they go into casinos not
just knowing the basics of the game (taking some of the intimidation away from tables that would
usually push them to the slots) but also with some strategy involved that puts the casino at less of an
advantage compared to younger consumers in the past.
Decline in popularity of slot machines
Because of this switch in popularity from slots to table games, the number of slot machines in Nevada
has dropped from 217,000 in 2001 to 175,000 in 2014. The earnings from slots have fallen too, as the
Center for Gambling Research at UNLV has concluded that Nevada casinos have experienced a 20%
reduction in slot revenue from 2007 to 2014. For MGM resorts itself, slot revenues have declined
from $2 billion in 2006 to $1.65 billion in 2010, mostly as a result of the economic recession
experienced throughout the country, before slowly growing to $1.67 billion in 2013. Despite the
decrease in overall revenues from slots, the casinos have increased its from every slot machine per day
despite shutting down some slots. At the same time, the company has reported an increase in table
games revenues. I think this shift by consumers as a whole, and especially millennials, is showing that
the gambling public is more interested in

Allure Of Democracy
The Allure of Democracy
A democratic system is one that states strive for, as it allows for popular participation through the
electoral process; and depending on implementation tactics, states may or may not be successful in
this pursuit. Democracy looks different across nations, as exemplified with presidential, parliamentary
and mixed systems being put in place. However, what is the allure of democracy? Herein, differences
in executive leadership and duties and differences in powers are addressed in order to better
understand what democracy is and why it is a sought after system of governance. Democracy is based
on two fundamental concepts. The first of which is political participation, which requires all citizens
eligible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are, however, often times more stable systems. Paradoxically, the executive branch, some would
argue, is not sovereign the citizen is. This is because the president, as well as legislators, have a
responsibility to uphold the wants of the people. This is often debated, though. A major player falling
under this system is the United States. In the U.S. presidential system, voting for both the legislative
branch and the presidential seat are voted on simultaneously (rather than a legislative branch being
voted in, who then vote in the president as seen in parliament elections), and only two political parties
stand out amongst the rest. There is no split government, and no such thing as a vote of confidence,
meaning it is much harder to remove a presidential figure (they must be impeached). Political parties
don t get to choose the president (they choose a candidate to run), and though the president seeks to
establish a cooperative relationship across parties it isn t essential to his/her stay in office (Dahl, n.d.)
(Moe Caldwell, 1994).

interrupted flow of blood to the brain. As a result, brain cells die. Symptoms of stroke may include
slurred speech or no speech, difficulty with understanding, weakness or paralysis to one side of the
body, facial drooping, vision problems, trouble swallowing or headache.
2) Body systems involved
The body systems involved when a stroke occurs is the nervous system and cardiovascular system.

Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure Observation...
1. Introduction
At the combined parks of Universal Studios (US) and Islands of Adventure (IoA) patrons have been
complaining that it takes too long to both purchase park tickets and then get through the entrance
lines. According to managers of the park patrons have been giving conflicting data as to which is
actually having a problem. Some say that US is slower than IoA where others disagree and claim IoA
is indeed the slower of the parks. To get to the truth behind the issue we conducted an observational
usability study where we spent a minimum of 30 minutes at each park s ticket purchase and entrance
lines measuring the time interactions relative to time.
When evaluating the ticket lines we timed interactions at the purchase ... Show more content on

2. Subjective Analysis
The first study was conducted at the ticket booths of both parks, to find the average time spent
purchasing tickets between groups of people. As shown in Figure 1, for the Universal Studios ticket
purchasing booths, 26 groups were observed and of these groups, 30 were male, 25 were female, and
15 were children. Purchasers are classified as which gender initiated communicating between group
and ticket seller. The findings show that of the 26 groups, 15 had males purchasing the tickets with an
average time of 184.46 seconds, or 3:04.46 minutes. 11 groups had female purchasing tickets with an
average time of 135.07 seconds, or 2:15.07 minutes. The average time for all groups to purchase
tickets at Universal Studios, disregarding gender, was 163.56 seconds, or 2:43.56 minutes. As shown
in Figure 2, for Islands of Adventure ticket purchasing booths, 43 groups were observed and of these
groups, 47 were male, 34 were female, and 44 were children. The findings show that of the 43 groups,
28 had males purchasing the tickets with an average time of 80.42 seconds. 15 groups had females
purchasing the tickets with an average time of 95.17 seconds. The average time for all groups to
purchase tickets at Islands of Adventure, disregarding gender, was 85.56 seconds.
Our findings show that the reason for only 26 groups beings observed being less than the 43 groups
observed is because the 26 groups at

A Career In Troubleshooting Brake Shoes
You may regularly work on your car, handling a variety of tasks yourself, saving you money. The
more you re able to do on your own, the better for your budget. When it comes to troubleshooting
brakes, there may be a line you re just not willing to cross. We ll look at the simple jobs you can
handle on your own as well as those where calling upon a mechanic may be your best option.
Troubleshooting Brakes: Do it Yourself
Replace the brake pads. You can save a few hundreds dollars in labor costs by changing the brake pads
yourself. Typically, you ll pay from $50 to $100 per set of four brake pads, depending on your make
and model. Purchase a can of brake fluid while you re at it and begin assembling your tools: gloves,
safety goggles, jack stands, lug wrench, adjustable wrench, c clamp, and plastic ties. By following the
instructions in your model specific service manual, this job can be completed in about an hour.
Change the brake calipers. Another job you can handle yourself is changing the brake calipers. Since
you re already changing the brake pads, there is good chance the calipers may need replacement too.

Following any brake work, your car should brake firm to the touch. Trouble becomes apparent when
the brakes feel soft to the touch and require extra pressure to make the car stop. Once you have ruled
out the master cylinder isn t the culprit, then bleeding the brake lines is necessary. Brake fluid is
hydraulically pushed through tubes and drives each piston in a brake caliper. Here, you ll need two
people to get the work done one person to press the brake pedal and another individual to open each
bleeder valve to release air. Use a box wrench suitably sized for the bleeder bolt, loosening same.
Remove the old brake fluid with a turkey baster or a syringe. While bleeding the system, have your
helper add fresh fluid. As long as you have a helper available you can do the job

Women s Role In Ww2
On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes attacked Pearl Harbor, killing thousands at the base and
prompting the United States to declare war against Japan. The United States joined the Allied Powers
in World War II and their presence helped to turn the tides against Germany and the Axis Powers.
Upwards of 16 million American men left their homes and joined the military to fight for their
country. To fill their places, women took on a multitude of new responsibilities in order to keep the
homefront stable and prosperous while the war waged abroad. Encouraged by the likes of Rosie the
Riveter , women took jobs in industries that were previously exclusive to men, including factories that
created weapons and aircrafts used by the military. As needs for soldiers abroad increased, product
availability at home was scarce, especially in the aftermath of the Great Depression, meaning that
families were forced to ration their food and use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aircrafts, warships, and ammunition were in high demand, meaning that all available resources went
to supporting the troops. At the same time, the economic trauma of the Great Depression was still
lingering, further increasing resource scarcity. To make matters worse, many countries that had
exported goods to the United States were under attack and unable to trade. Families were forced to
ration everyday items such as sugar, butter, and crude oil (Beyond Rosie the Riveter: Women s
Contributions during World War II). Mothers were forced to work with whatever rations they could
get to provide for their families. Tires and gas were prioritized for the armed forces, making travel
much more strenuous and less frequent (Partners in Winning the War: American Women in World War
II). These restrictions made life on the homefront much more difficult, but women were not going to
complain. They understood that making sacrifices was imperative towards helping the soldiers

1.Introduction. Halogen Bonding, Xb, Is The Product Of
1.Introduction
Halogen bonding, XB, is the product of a non covalent interaction between a halogen X and a negative
site B (e.g., Lewis base). The halogen, X, is usually part of an R X molecule where R can be another
halogen, an organic or an inorganic electron donating group. Halogen bonding (XB) is in some ways
analogous to hydrogen bonding (HB). In the latter, a hydrogen atom is shared between an atom, group
or molecule that donates and another that accepts it.[1 3] In halogen bonding, it is a halogen atom X
that is shared between a donor R and an acceptor Y. Thus the two forms of interaction can be
illustrated by:
HB : R_H...Y
XB : R_X...Y

More recent studies of the halogen bond in the solid state have been conferred by both Pennington et

The seventies and the eighties of the last century witnessed the further extension of the experimental
inspections by introducing infrared spectroscopy of Lewis base dihalogen complexes isolated in solid
inert gas matrices at temperatures low enough to cease reaction, even when the dihalogen was ClF or
F2. Lattice effects in cryogenic matrices are lesser than those present in Hassel s crystals however,
they are not fully absent. [22 37]
The introduction of supersonic expansion techniques endorsed studying the rotational spectra of
HF...ClF12 and HF...Cl2 13 in active isolation via molecular beam electric resonance spectroscopy.
Klemperer et al referred to such complexes as anti hydrogen bonded, with HF acting as a Lewis base.

A Brief Argument Of Evolutionary Psychology By Putting...
Social constructionism counters this argument of evolutionary psychology by putting emphasis on
environment and nurture. Constructionism focuses on how meaning is created hence when we use the
term socially constructed we are referring to how society and culture create gender roles which are in
turn prescribed as normal and appropriate behavior expected from a person of that particular gender.
More radical versions of the social constructionist theory go as far as to argue that the behavioral
differences that exist between men and women are entirely social conventions free of any biological or
evolutional influence. Other versions of the theory also claim that there are multiple genders aside

Gender stereotypes can even be accurate at times....
As we have seen gender stereotypes and the subsequent gender roles which they encourage can often
serve a good purpose but they do become problematic when the lines are blurred and we can no longer
distinguish between nature and nurture. There is a network of researchers who have proposed that
stereotypes are indeed grounded on truth and these are not just empty claims as there is also a wealth
of research to support this. Throughout this paper we shall take a look at this research and examine its
authenticity in order to determine what truth if any lies in stereotypes. Similarly, many people use
confirmatory biases to prove the truthfulness of stereotypes. Confirmation bias is a tendency of people
to remember and notice events in a way which confirms their ideology and beliefs.. For instance,

Literary Romanticism Essay
Literary Romanticism
Literary Romanticism is a movement in literature present in the history of virtually every European
country, the USA, and Latin America. It lasted from approximately 1750 to about 1870 and was
characterized by reliance on the imagination and emotional subjectivity of approach, freedom of
thought and expression, and an idealization of nature. The term romantic first appeared in 18th century
English and originally meant romancelike #8212;that is, resembling the fanciful character of medieval
romances. Romanticism was merely a product of bygone ages as are all works of literature.

poems and ballads, which are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the profession of law was prohibited to Jews in Germany at that time, Heine, who was born
Jewish, converted to Christianity in 1825 in order to obtain a law degree. He received his degree but
never practiced law. In 1826 Die Harzreise (The Harz Journey 1887), a prose account of a trip he had
taken to the Harz, a mountain range in central Germany, was published. This work, with its wit and
grace of style, won success immediately and established Heine s literary reputation. In 1827 his Buch
der Lieder (Book of Songs, 1846) was published. Many noted composers, including Franz Schubert of
Austria and Robert Schumann of Germany, wrote music to accompany these verses.
From 1827 to 1831 Heine lived in England and Italy as well as in various parts of Germany. During
that period he wrote the three volumes of travel stories that, with Die Harzreise, make up the four
volumes of his Reisebilder (1826 1831; Travel Pictures, 1887). He also wrote a number of prose
works in which he displayed sympathy with the democratic ideas of the French Revolution (1789
1799) and bitterly satirized the feudal regimes of the German kingdoms and duchies (see Feudalism).
In the 1830s Heine became a prominent member of a literary group known as Junges Deutschland
(Young Germany), which attacked the German school of Romanticism for having come under the
domination of the monarchy and the church. He had hoped to obtain a position as a professor of
German literature, but his

Regulating Our Food
Government Regulating Our Food One may agree with the government regulating our food. People all
around the world are obese and struggling to get healthy again. The percentage of obese people is
rising and it is getting to a concerning level. When you are obese, you become limited in movement
and jobs that you can get. The world still needs workers for the land and obese people cannot do that
job because they cannot move as well. Obese people are restricted in the job category and many other
categories. If the government does not pitch in to stop obesity, more people will not be successful,
there would still be more ways to become obese, and people would just eat and not think of the
calories that go into their daily meals.
The success rate in school decreases for obese people. According to Education Level and Obesity,
33.6% of obese adults didn t graduate high school. If you don not graduate high school, it is very hard
to get a job in general but a steady, decent paying job. The government should be helping and trying to
make everyone not obese. If people are obese and not changing, they need all the help they can get
and the government is providing help. The government is trying to lower the amount of unhealthy
food being sold in cities to prevent obesity. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Tow Truck Research Paper
A tow truck is a special emergency vehicle designed to tow or pull disabled vehicles out of the
roadway to a safer location. It is also commonly used to confiscate illegally parked vehicles. Most tow
trucks are based on a medium truck or heavy duty pickup chassis.
There are three main types of tow trucks in use today: hook and chain, axle cradling, and flatbed. The
hook and chain is the oldest type of tow truck; it uses chains around the towed vehicle. The axle
cradling type features a large metal yoke that is fitted under the front wheels; a hydraulic hoist then
lifts the front end of the vehicle so it can be towed. The flatbed type of tow truck has a bed at the back
of the truck that can be hydraulically moved to ground level. This then

King Wuulf s Influence Of The Hero Of Beowulf
In the beginning of the poem Beowulf , one can recognize the excitement that the king expresses when
Beowulf arrives to help defend the land of the Danes. The king of land, Hrothgar is grateful when
Beowulf states that he is going to fight off Grendel, but the king warns Beowulf and urges him to not
become a warrior and ruler that expresses too much pride in himself. Hrothgar continues on and insists
that Beowulf remains peaceful, yet ready to battle, but not to become to driven by violence and too
war minded. Although at the time Beowulf expressed interest and seemed to agree with the advice that
was being handed to him by King Hrothgar, he later goes on the ignore it and he will then find himself
in some serious trouble down the line, due to these flaws that he possess as a warrior. Although
Beowulf was a successful warrior, he diminished his legacy as a king and should have truly listened to
the advice that was given to him by Hrothgar to help ensure his success and legacy as a future king.
Hrothgar states to Beowulf [c]hoose, dear Beowulf, the better part, eternal rewards. Do not give way
to pride. For a brief while your strength is in bloom but it fades quickly; and soon there will follow
illness or the sword you lay low... (Beowulf, 1759 1768). This quotes demonstrates the tone that the
king decided to use toward Beowulf to express the severity of the advice that he is giving to him and

The Boundary Layer Of An Object
1. The boundary layer is investigated for the situation that fluid is passing through an object, where
around the object the layer of boundary is formed. Imagine the circumstance that the aircraft is flying
in the sky, the wing is cutting through the air. The boundary layer around the wing could be observed,
which is a thin and a highly sheared region. It is the layer that looks random and chaotic but also has
structure on it. The Boundary layer is a complex structure, which is classified from Laminar,
Transition, to Turbulent around the body depending on different aspects like: Reynolds number,
surface roughness, skin friction drag, pressure gradient and etc. The near wall turbulent coherent
structure is thus the study of the turbulent coherent structure that is close to the surface of the body.
Any structure of the turbulent is the reflected of Kinetic energy through the process of production,
diffusion, transformation and etc. It corresponds to the majority of energy production within the
structure. The actives that involve the structure are happened near the wall, which turns out the
importance of near wall investigation, and worth to put the emphasis on. The 3 dimensional coherent
structures are the small region that exists within the turbulent boundary layer. It has the correction
which has its own aspects either in space or time. The term coherent structure implies to the boundary
layer structure indicate that events are occurred logical and consistent within the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Why Lunch Ladies Are Heroes
Jarrett Krosoczka presented a Technology, Education, Design (TED) Talk on July 2014 titled Why
Lunch Ladies are Heroes. He presented his purpose, to get society to thank people more often, to an
upper class audience. Krosoczka hopes that by thanking a person each and everyday we can make an
impact in others lives. This idea is shown through him telling a story about how his thank you changed
a lunch ladies life. Krosoczka does a fantastic job at persuading readers by pulling at their heart
strings, playfully speaking to the audience, and allowing people of all ages to be able to listen to his
powerful speech. In this speech, Pathos which is persuading a person with emotional pity is

It made his speech more frustrating rather than sweet, and from the heart. It makes the audience feel
like they have never truly impacted a person s life unless they have thanked person. Also he made it
seem like the upper class never thank their workers below them, which is not always the truth. This
pulls away from why it is important to give someone credit for their hard work, when he is nagging on
others for not doing so. Although a strength in his argument is that he did say not many people thank
lunch ladies, which is most likely true. He believes everyone should be thanked for their hard work,
but lunch ladies rarely are. Krosoczka stated, the lunch lady has not been treated very kindly in
popular culture over time (Krosoczka 1:44). He mentioned how lunch ladies feed our children, which
helps them learn they are never noticed though. What he is trying to get at is to thank the people that
are not as noticeable, that are hard workers too. Which doing so can change a person s

Self Regulation And Physiological Regulation
Self regulation is necessary for the development of competencies needed for academic and non
academic success. Self regulation and physiological regulation seen in infancy are the foundations for
the development of complex self regulation skills later in life. The maturation of interactions between
physiological and behavioral responses is necessary for the development of self regulation (Shields et
al., 1994). However, effective sensory processing is necessary for physiological regulation and the
development of self regulation as these skills are developed on the basis of the brain s interpretation of
sensory stimuli from the body and environment.

The spatiotemporal proximity of the stimuli also helps the brain to determine the relevancy of two or
more sensory stimuli from different sensory systems and helps to determine if these stimuli originated
from the same event. The stimuli that are perceived to be from the same event are enhanced and sent
to the higher cortical centers for further processing. The relevant stimuli from two or more different
sensory systems are intensified and receive precedence for cortical attention over the sensory stimuli
coming from a single sensory system. On the contrary, the repetitive stimuli from only one sensory
system that are in temporospatial proximity are suppressed (Stein Rowland, 2011). Multisensory
integration studies show that the temporal binding window (a time length during which two relevant
sensory stimuli are combined) for multisensory integration is wider in children with autism than
typical children. The wider temporal binding window could contribute to a distorted sensory
perception observed in children (Stevenson et al., 2014). Children with autism often have concurrent
SPD.
The impairments in sensory gating or multisensory integration influence the individual s perception of
the world and consequently, his/her emotional, behavioral, and motor responses. Impaired sensory

to the relevant stimuli, and generate

will be discussed will be its original discovery in 1967, it s addition research that was completed in

In 1967 in the Lower Omo Valley near Kibish, Ethiopia along the Omo river, a team from the Kenya
National Museums, led by Richard Leakey an anthropologist and conservationist, did an initial
exploration which led to the discovery of several stone tools, hominin fossils, and various other skull
fossils of mammals. In this expedition the team found parts of what would be known as Omo I and
Omo II. The finds for Omo I comprised of the mandible, dentition, several parts of the cranium, and a
considerable portion of the post cranial skeleton. Omo I s finds has been described as being a modern
skeleton of Homo sapiens. Omo II comprised of an almost intact neurocranium, which has been
described as primitive remains most closely resembling Homo erectus (Fleagle et al. 2008). At that
time in 1967, researches faced a difficult time establishing an accurate age of these remains due in part
to the confines of technology. The team at this time decided to use a rather controversial method that

seem to have a problem with navigating in and around the island. He flies Wendy and her brothers to
the island, and later directs them back to their house. Navigation is a type of memory that Peter has
retained, and he also does well remembering his most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He questions, who is Captain Hook? and I forget them after I kill them . Despite the obvious concern
with a child killing another human, what is even more concerning is that Peter kills and then forgets
about it. A Freudian psychologist might suggest that he is subconsciously blocking out the memory,
but times are past that era, instead it might just be that Peter cannot retain memory because he has no
room to grow. Peter never ages, and his playful face is the same throughout generations. While Peter is
blessed with never having to grow up, and therefore never having any real form of responsibility, he is
cursed with the inability to remember. Memories grow with the individual, it takes place within time
regardless of the duration and is encoded into the brain likewise. The timeline in Neverland is unclear
because years or seconds may pass relative to the real world, but even if the time ratio was one to one,
there is without doubt that Peter s internal clock has stopped ticking. His past therefore can be
considered infinite because no one knows if he is twenty years old or two thousand. Infinite memory
is incomprehensible, as previously stated, as other characters grow up in Peter Pan their childhood
becomes merely snapshots. Peter may not have the ability to retain memory because he can only live
in the present. For him to have memory of the past would suggest that he

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. V. Dukes
The name of the case Wal Mart Stores, INC. v. Dukes ET. AL. in the United States. The case suits to
the research question, which is about discrimination. Wal Mart v. Dukes was a United States Supreme
Court case. The appeal of the case was done in the Ninth Circuit s Court. Firstly, Dukes v. Wal Mart
Stores, Inc. case, in which the Supreme Court canceled the district court s decision, then, it was
convinced that the lawsuit included more than million women as the plaintiffs, who presently work or
have worked for Wal Mart, and the main plaintiff Betty Dukes.
In this case, Betty Dukes, a female Wal Mart employee, with five other women, filed a class action
against the violation of civil rights by the Wal Mart company. The claim was that the ... Show more

However, Wal Mart appealed this decision to Court of Appeals. A panel of three judges of the Ninth
Circuit confirmed the district court s class certification (plaintiff) in 2007. However, Wal Mart was not
satisfied with court`s decision and sued for a rehearing, claiming that the judges committed a legal
mistake in classifying the action certification. The Ninth Circuit panel recalled its primary decision
and issued a following, replacing opinion, which still allowed the class certification. In 2009, the
Ninth Circuit provided Wal Mart a rehearing for the previous court`s decision. As a result, Ninth
Circuit opinion was no longer effective. Supreme Court agreed to hear Wal Mart s appeal as Wal Mart
v. Dukes. Eventually, the Supreme Court made its decision in Wal Mart s favor on June 20, 2011 by
saying that the million plaintiffs did not have enough in common to base a class (a group of several
people, who sued the case). The Court ruled unanimously that because of the changeability of
plaintiffs circumstances, the class action could not proceed as comprised. Critics of the opinion allege
that the decision makes it incredibly difficult to certify a class without a prohibitive amount of work
on the part of plaintiff attorneys. The requirement to look through the class to the merits requires an
immense amount of discovery, which was not previously

  • 2. Descriptive Essay About Titanic Famous Maritime Disasters For as long as people have been using wood to float on water, there have been maritime disasters. The most we can do is mourn for dead, be sensitive to the trauma of the survivors, and learn from these tragic experiences. Let s look at five well known or somewhat well known maritime disasters. RMS Titanic It s been the subject of more than one film, and not just the 1997 James Cameron blockbuster. It s even the subject of a musical (The Unsinkable Molly Brown). But just what is it about the Titanic that captures the imagination? Part of it, surely, is the luxury of the ship and a lot of its high class passengers. Another reason is the arrogance of referring to the ship as unsinkable . Plus the tragic loss of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This American Great Lakes freighter was used to haul taconite iron ore from mines near Duluth in Minnesota to the iron works in Toledo, Detroit, and other Great Lakes port cities. More than just a workhorse, the Edmund Fitzgerald was also known for its speed. The ship set seasonal hauling records six times during its working life, which spanned from 1958 to 1975. The captain, Peter Pulcer, was known as the DJ Captain , for his habit of playing music while the ship sailed between Lakes Erie and Huron through the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers. Music was played day and night. Furthermore, Captain Pulcer would also entertain spectators between Lakes Huron and Superior at the Soo Locks, with running commentary about the vessel. As a result, the ship was well known to boat watchers. On November 9, 1975, Captain Ernest McSorley commanded the ship on what should have been a somewhat routine run from Superior, Wisconsin (near Duluth) to a steel mill near Detroit. On that day, the Edmund Fitzgerald accompanied another freighter, the SS Arthur M. Anderson. However, the next day, both ships were caught in a sudden storm with waves up to 35 feet and winds that were near hurricane force. The Fitzgerald reported it was having some difficulties, but its last transmission to the Anderson said that they were holding their own. Just after 7:10 PM, the Fitzgerald suddenly sank about 17 miles from Whitefish Bay, on the Canadian side, near Sault Ste. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The gates overall presence dividing the busy streets of Cambridge and the tranquility of Harvard Yard. Just north of Harvard Square stands Johnston gate, for students to enter daily and for city goers and tourists to pass by. Despite its bold and perhaps intimidating appearance, seas of people flood through to catch a glimpse of Harvard Yard and to stop to take a picture with the famous John Harvard Statue. The gate however, has not been present since the institution s founding. Samuel Johnston was a proud member of Harvard s graduating class of 1855. Several years later, Johnston decided to donate 10,000 dollars to build a gate, leading to the entrance of the famous Harvard Yard. The gate was designed by Charles McKim, an architect and a graduate of Harvard. He designed the gates to have a lavish design, and to be constructed of metals and hand made red bricks; the bricks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People were outraged by the gates appearance due to it s overdone appearance. The complex design was not seen as tasteful and contradicted the Puritan values that the school was founded upon. The symbolism within the design of the gate still had a cross at the top of the fence representing the Divinity School and Harvard s Puritan founding. The gate also displays a VERITAS shield on the brick columns that the gate is supported by. Despite the controversial response when first constructed, the gate still stands 126 years later. The gate is seen by many daily and welcomes students and visitors to the Harvard we know today. From the very beginning the Johnston Gate was intended to be Harvard Yard s main portal. • 27. A Brief Argument Of Evolutionary Psychology By Putting... Social constructionism counters this argument of evolutionary psychology by putting emphasis on environment and nurture. Constructionism focuses on how meaning is created hence when we use the term socially constructed we are referring to how society and culture create gender roles which are in turn prescribed as normal and appropriate behavior expected from a person of that particular gender. More radical versions of the social constructionist theory go as far as to argue that the behavioral differences that exist between men and women are entirely social conventions free of any biological or evolutional influence. Other versions of the theory also claim that there are multiple genders aside from the traditionally recognized male and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gender stereotypes can even be accurate at times.... As we have seen gender stereotypes and the subsequent gender roles which they encourage can often serve a good purpose but they do become problematic when the lines are blurred and we can no longer distinguish between nature and nurture. There is a network of researchers who have proposed that stereotypes are indeed grounded on truth and these are not just empty claims as there is also a wealth of research to support this. Throughout this paper we shall take a look at this research and examine its authenticity in order to determine what truth if any lies in stereotypes. Similarly, many people use confirmatory biases to prove the truthfulness of stereotypes. Confirmation bias is a tendency of people to remember and notice events in a way which confirms their ideology and beliefs.. • 28. Literary Romanticism Essay Literary Romanticism Literary Romanticism is a movement in literature present in the history of virtually every European country, the USA, and Latin America. It lasted from approximately 1750 to about 1870 and was characterized by reliance on the imagination and emotional subjectivity of approach, freedom of thought and expression, and an idealization of nature. The term romantic first appeared in 18th century English and originally meant romancelike #8212;that is, resembling the fanciful character of medieval romances. Romanticism was merely a product of bygone ages as are all works of literature. Heinrich Heine is an example of a German romantic poet. This work, with its wit and grace of style, won success immediately and established Heine s literary reputation. In 1827 his Buch der Lieder (Book of Songs, 1846) was published. Many noted composers, including Franz Schubert of Austria and Robert Schumann of Germany, wrote music to accompany these verses. From 1827 to 1831 Heine lived in England and Italy as well as in various parts of Germany. During that period he wrote the three volumes of travel stories that, with Die Harzreise, make up the four volumes of his Reisebilder (1826 1831; Travel Pictures, 1887). He also wrote a number of prose works in which he displayed sympathy with the democratic ideas of the French Revolution (1789 1799) and bitterly satirized the feudal regimes of the German kingdoms and duchies (see Feudalism). In the 1830s Heine became a prominent member of a literary group known as Junges Deutschland (Young Germany), which attacked the German school of Romanticism for having come under the domination of the monarchy and the church. The percentage of obese people is rising and it is getting to a concerning level. When you are obese, you become limited in movement and jobs that you can get. The world still needs workers for the land and obese people cannot do that job because they cannot move as well. Obese people are restricted in the job category and many other categories. If the government does not pitch in to stop obesity, more people will not be successful, there would still be more ways to become obese, and people would just eat and not think of the calories that go into their daily meals. The success rate in school decreases for obese people. According to Education Level and Obesity, 33.6% of obese adults didn t graduate high school. If you don not graduate high school, it is very hard to get a job in general but a steady, decent paying job. The government should be helping and trying to make everyone not obese. There are three main types of tow trucks in use today: hook and chain, axle cradling, and flatbed. The hook and chain is the oldest type of tow truck; it uses chains around the towed vehicle. The axle cradling type features a large metal yoke that is fitted under the front wheels; a hydraulic hoist then lifts the front end of the vehicle so it can be towed. The king of land, Hrothgar is grateful when Beowulf states that he is going to fight off Grendel, but the king warns Beowulf and urges him to not become a warrior and ruler that expresses too much pride in himself. Hrothgar continues on and insists that Beowulf remains peaceful, yet ready to battle, but not to become to driven by violence and too war minded. Although at the time Beowulf expressed interest and seemed to agree with the advice that was being handed to him by King Hrothgar, he later goes on the ignore it and he will then find himself in some serious trouble down the line, due to these flaws that he possess as a warrior. Although Beowulf was a successful warrior, he diminished his legacy as a king and should have truly listened to the advice that was given to him by Hrothgar to help ensure his success and legacy as a future king. • 32. The Boundary Layer Of An Object 1. The boundary layer is investigated for the situation that fluid is passing through an object, where around the object the layer of boundary is formed. Imagine the circumstance that the aircraft is flying in the sky, the wing is cutting through the air. The boundary layer around the wing could be observed, which is a thin and a highly sheared region. It is the layer that looks random and chaotic but also has structure on it. The Boundary layer is a complex structure, which is classified from Laminar, Transition, to Turbulent around the body depending on different aspects like: Reynolds number, surface roughness, skin friction drag, pressure gradient and etc. The near wall turbulent coherent structure is thus the study of the turbulent coherent structure that is close to the surface of the body. Any structure of the turbulent is the reflected of Kinetic energy through the process of production, diffusion, transformation and etc. It corresponds to the majority of energy production within the structure. The actives that involve the structure are happened near the wall, which turns out the importance of near wall investigation, and worth to put the emphasis on. Self regulation and physiological regulation seen in infancy are the foundations for the development of complex self regulation skills later in life. The maturation of interactions between physiological and behavioral responses is necessary for the development of self regulation (Shields et al., 1994). The spatiotemporal proximity of the stimuli also helps the brain to determine the relevancy of two or more sensory stimuli from different sensory systems and helps to determine if these stimuli originated from the same event. The stimuli that are perceived to be from the same event are enhanced and sent to the higher cortical centers for further processing. The relevant stimuli from two or more different sensory systems are intensified and receive precedence for cortical attention over the sensory stimuli coming from a single sensory system. On the contrary, the repetitive stimuli from only one sensory system that are in temporospatial proximity are suppressed (Stein Rowland, 2011). Multisensory integration studies show that the temporal binding window (a time length during which two relevant sensory stimuli are combined) for multisensory integration is wider in children with autism than typical children. The wider temporal binding window could contribute to a distorted sensory perception observed in children (Stevenson et al., 2014). Children with autism often have concurrent SPD. In 1967 in the Lower Omo Valley near Kibish, Ethiopia along the Omo river, a team from the Kenya National Museums, led by Richard Leakey an anthropologist and conservationist, did an initial exploration which led to the discovery of several stone tools, hominin fossils, and various other skull fossils of mammals. In this expedition the team found parts of what would be known as Omo I and Omo II. The finds for Omo I comprised of the mandible, dentition, several parts of the cranium, and a considerable portion of the post cranial skeleton. Omo I s finds has been described as being a modern skeleton of Homo sapiens. Omo II comprised of an almost intact neurocranium, which has been described as primitive remains most closely resembling Homo erectus (Fleagle et al. 2008). Peter never ages, and his playful face is the same throughout generations. While Peter is blessed with never having to grow up, and therefore never having any real form of responsibility, he is cursed with the inability to remember. Memories grow with the individual, it takes place within time regardless of the duration and is encoded into the brain likewise. The timeline in Neverland is unclear because years or seconds may pass relative to the real world, but even if the time ratio was one to one, there is without doubt that Peter s internal clock has stopped ticking. His past therefore can be considered infinite because no one knows if he is twenty years old or two thousand. The Ninth Circuit panel recalled its primary decision and issued a following, replacing opinion, which still allowed the class certification. In 2009, the Ninth Circuit provided Wal Mart a rehearing for the previous court`s decision. As a result, Ninth Circuit opinion was no longer effective. Supreme Court agreed to hear Wal Mart s appeal as Wal Mart v. Dukes. Eventually, the Supreme Court made its decision in Wal Mart s favor on June 20, 2011 by saying that the million plaintiffs did not have enough in common to base a class (a group of several people, who sued the case). The Court ruled unanimously that because of the changeability of plaintiffs circumstances, the class action could not proceed as comprised.
