DVR is issued when equipment is new
designed (it contains information that
followed up by surveyor, such as design
codes, standards used for design
verification and design specification).
 Inspection Release Note(IRN)
An IRN shall only be issued if the
component is delivered prior to issuance
of final product certificate (PC). A final PC
shall not be issued if there are non-
conformances to the equipment or
system. The IRN shall be used with
detailed description of the non-
conformances, and shall always be
replaced by a certificate when all non-
conformances are closed.
 Product certificate (PC)
PC should be issued for all category I
equipment and systems(including control
systems)
PC will be issued upon successful
completion of design verification,
fabrication survey and review of final
documentation. As stated above, PC can
not be issued if design verification or non-
conformances are outstanding.

13. Purpose
 All Mechanical, electrical & instruments used in equipment can
capable of producing heat and sparks, this heat may cause for
ignition with the oxygen-gas mixture which is already present in the
atmosphere (ambient and operating conditions). To
control/mitigate this effect, certain methods are followed.
 When equipment/product is at bid/Concept level, it important to
realize where the equipment is going to be installed, what kind of
components needs to be purchased and what kind for certification
is required.
 At a same time, all information in conjunction with components
need be documented and submitted to Certifying Authority and
approved before it is ready for shipping.

 CSA Group (Canadian standard; certification for Hazardous
area, apart from this certification may vary depend upon
the province)

Zone 0:
A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of
flammable substances in the form of gas or vapour is present continuously or for
long periods or frequently.
Zone 1:
A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of
flammable substances in the form of gas is likely to occur in normal operation
occasionally.
Zone 2:
A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a mixture with air of
flammable substances in the form of gas is not likely, but if it does occur, will

20. Gas Groups
Based on ignitability of gas-air (minimum ignition energy) mixture, gas
groups are divided into 3 groups.
These are IIA, IIB and IIC:
 IIA: Acetone, ethane, benzene, petrol, butane, Propane, methane;
 IIB: Ethylene;
 IIC: Hydrogen, acetylene.
Severability;
− If selected component is suitable for IIC gas group it can be used in for IIA
and IIB atmosphere;
− If selected component is suitable for IIB gas group it can be used in for IIA
atmosphere;
− If selected component is suitable for IIA gas group it can be used in for IIA
atmosphere only.
IIC gas group is more severe .

21. Temperature classification
 The temperature classification indicates maximum surface
temperature of component which is allowed to reach during its
normal operation
 When selecting a product, ensure the temperature class of the
product is below the minimum ignition temperature of the
explosive atmosphere
− If component/product
selected for T6, it is suitable
for T1 to T6 category only,
− If component/product
selected for T3, it is suitable
for T1 to T3 category only.
T6 is more tougher requirement
For example,
if pressure transmitter has T4 classification, the surface temperature during
operating condition or any amount of heat generated by malfunction should
not cross 135ºC.
