Understanding Office 365 Service Offerings - O365 Saturday Sydney 2015Michael Noel
Version of the presentation given at Office365 Saturday Sydney on 12 June, 2015. Contains licensing info in AUD.
Microsoft’s Office 365 has experienced massive growth in recent months, with reduced overhead costs and reliability acting as driving factors for many organizations. While popular services such as Exchange Online and SharePoint Online may be responsible for much of the interest in Office 365, there are other less well known services such as OneDrive for Business and Skype for Business that make Microsoft’s cloud offering even more tempting for IT decision makers.
This session breaks down the various service offerings of Office 365, providing for easy to understand description of each of the tools provided and how they can be used to improve productivity and reduce costs.
• Understand key features and functionality of each of the service offerings within Office 365, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Skype for Business, Office Web App, and the Office 2013 client suite
• Determine what type of license is required for your organization based on the level of functionality required and the type of information workers that will use the platform
• Review key decision points to make when considering an Office 365 deployment such as whether or not to provide Single Sign On to the platform with an internal Active Directory environment, data retention decisions, and migration options
Considering Office 365, but wondering if Google Apps is better? Maybe you should just stick with "traditional" Exchange 2013? Perhaps you know Office 365 is right, but you're not sure what version!

To help teams be more productive, we need to change the way we think about meetings. Today, a meeting is typically treated as a stand-alone event, and the phone and video conferencing tools people use are designed to support that event.
What if we approached meetings in a more connected way – not as discrete events, but as a series of connected gatherings that drive collaborative progress? This approach is at the heart of how we built the meeting experience in Microsoft Teams.
We built Microsoft Teams to help people meet smarter. Stay focused. And achieve more.

Office 365 is evolving at lightning pace with new features and functionality being introduced all the time. In our first session we will highlight the new and upcoming features of Office 365, including OneDrive, Graph and Delve. We'll also provide some tips and tricks on how you can stay ahead of the knowledge curve.
Microsoft continues to tout the message of ‘Cloud This,’ ‘Surface That,’ and ‘Office 365 for all of your business needs,’ but what does it all mean? Do you feel like a “Zombie” with all of this messaging? You’re not alone. Office 365 is becoming such an important piece of Microsoft’s enterprise strategy that if you haven’t looked into its offerings, benefits and cost savings, you won’t know what you’re missing.
In this informative webinar, we deconstruct the offerings within Office 365 and clearly translate these solutions into business value and potential savings that your business will understand. Plus, get answers to your questions during our interactive Q&A session.
Microsoft has been working for years to transition their popular Office suite of productivity tools to the cloud and Office 365 is the latest and most mature realization of their vision. Office 365 is a subscription-based, web-delivered version of WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT and other related applications designed to work in a collaborative environment.
In this workshop we will review the wide variety of subscription models and what features and benefits would steer you toward the best fit for your organization. Because Office 365 is tightly related to Office 2013 and Microsoft’s cloud-based storage service SkyDrive, we will explore those relationships and help you understand the total Microsoft Office ecosystem. We’ll also discuss moving Outlook e-mail from your servers to the new cloud-based hosted Exchange.
This presentation focuses on the web-based versions of popular Office applications and how to take advantage of a new world for Microsoft: multi-user editing and collaborative sharing of documents in the cloud. During this workshop we will discuss some of the key differences between Google Apps and Office 365 since Google is the key competitor in the Cloud-delivered office tool marketplace.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

In today's fast-changing business world, Companies that adapt and embrace new ideas often need help to keep up with the competition. However, fostering a culture of innovation takes much work. It takes vision, leadership and willingness to take risks in the right proportion. Sachin Dev Duggal, co-founder of Builder.ai, has perfected the art of this balance, creating a company culture where creativity and growth are nurtured at each stage.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

2. I am…
Plunging headfirst into cloud technology, and completely sold on the idea of being able to work
anytime, anywhere on (almost) any device – I love that technology allows me to collaborate with
people in real time anywhere in the world, and that I’m not tied to any one machine at any time to be
productive.
A Systems Consultant with Long View Systems with over a decade of experience in IT, and most
recently focusing on Office 365 and Hybrid Architecture.
Certifications:
MCP, MCSA, Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist
Administrating Office 365 for Small Business
3. My Cloud experience
Office 365 since Wave 14 (Office 2010 and 2010 Servers)
Office 365 MVP since January 2014

4. My Cloud connection
Programs and features I use every day:
OneDrive – all personal files and photos
Camera backup on iPhone
SharePoint and ODB – all work documents and files
Dropbox - Camera upload on iPhone
Easier folder sharing (at the moment), although this feature is
pending in OneDrive
Outlook 2013 & Outlook Web access
Windows 8.1 - OneDrive built in, my default save location for
documents and files
Lync - presence, IM, and phone/conferencing
CrashPlan online backup - unlimited storage
OneNote
7. New and Noteworthy
OneNote – free and available on (nearly) everything!
Connect OneNote to OneDrive or ODB for the best experience
Office for iPad and Android
Yammer integration continues to improve
Outlook Web access continues to improve with:
Document collaboration
Groups and Conversations
Delve & Office Graph (in First Release)
Send OneDrive links as attachments
8. New and Noteworthy
1TB ODB storage – everyone gets a terabyte!
Share files directly from OneDrive
Document Conversations in SharePoint and OneDrive Business
Custom themes (coming soon)
Office 365 Admin center unified navigation
Customize Top Navigation Bar
Office 365 Roadmap – see when new features are coming out, and what their timeline
is: http://office.com/roadmap
9. Cloudy with a chance of Hybrid
The Cloud – my services, someone else’s servers
No need to fear the cloud – on premise solutions and skillsets will be required for a long
time to come.
There is no one-size-fits all solution
Most businesses will not be able to go entirely cloud
Hybrid environments are here to stay (for now) –
learning how to tie Office 365 services into applications
and services that need to remain on premise is the way
to go.
Cloud services fall short around backup and retention
“Mobile First, Cloud first”
10. Bowser is King
Microsoft continues to drive the browser experience – updates trickle down to
on premise services much more slowly.
OWA has several features that are not (and probably never will be) seen in
Outlook.
Conversations
Groups
Clutter
Office Graph (Delve)
Big Data & Machine Learning continue to drive innovation
11. Success with Office 365
Office 365 is here to stay – it’s important to at least know what is going on with cloud
services in order to stay relevant.
Email is often the primary driver for businesses moving to Office 365.
Once in the cloud, users expect to taste the different offerings on Microsoft’s buffet.
Lync enhances the Outlook experience and can provide an easy win.
OneDrive Business gives users 1TB of storage – reduce the need for on premise storage
and carrying around USB drives
Look at Office 365 as a connected solution, not just email, SharePoint, or Lync – all these
services come together as a cohesive unit.
Connect users to as much as makes sense for the best experience.
Use the Office 365 Admin Guides and Customer Success Center to guide your deployment.
12. Success with SharePoint
Connect users to OneDrive.
Encourage people to fill out their profile – add pictures!
Having profiles filled out enables skill search as well as “ask me about”.
Create simple site collections with clean navigation.
Document libraries – keep it simple and use search.
Do away with the company bulletin board – put it in SharePoint.
Send links, don’t send documents.
Turn on versioning in document libraries – be a rock star!
13. Success with Yammer
Enterprise Social is a big push with slow adoption.
The tide is turning (albeit slowly).
Turn on Yammer in SharePoint instead of Newsfeed.
Use the Yammer admin guide, and Customer Success Center to drive
deployment and adoption.
Yammer requires buy-in from the top down – getting execs and power users
involved will help people pick it up and start using it.
14. Success with Lync
Set up some relevant groups and add them
to the Lync client.
Show users how to know when someone is
online from Outlook or SharePoint.
Show users where to access saved
conversations in Outlook.
Demonstrate how to share a screen with
someone else, or collaborate on a
document.
Features Available in Lync Online
Instant Messaging & Presence
Lync-to-Lync Calling
File Transfer
Distribution Lists
Lync External Connectivity (Lync Federation)
Online Meetings
15. OneDrive: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
OneDrive (Personal) – One place for everything in your life: 15GB free,
additional storage dirt cheap.
Great product, sync is pretty much rock solid.
Baked in to Windows 8.1, integration is tight.
Apps for most mobile platforms – everything, everywhere.
Camera backup for phones.
OneDrive replaces My Site – 1TB of storage, my documents or home
drive in the cloud.
OneDrive Business – sync client keeps OneDrive, and SharePoint
libraries synchronized on your hard drive for offline use.
ODB Sync client is plagued with problems – but Microsoft is working
hard to fix it.
16. Sharing with OneDrive Business
You can share files up to 10GB in size using ODB
Sharing sends a link to the file, rather than the file itself – keeping the file under
your control, rather than out in the wild.
One source of the truth, rather than multiple versions emailed around
Versioning supported in ODB
17. Delve: The Artist Formerly Known as Oslo
Built on Office Graph
The Office Graph uses sophisticated machine learning techniques to connect
you to the relevant documents, conversations, and people around you.
Better than search, information finds you.
Proactively discovers personalized content for you
without you needing to search.
Takes information out of silos and presents it to
you as a unified, combined experience.
There are private activities, like what documents
you viewed, and public activities, like the people
you follow in Yammer. Private activities always stay
private.

Editor's Notes
Get it done anywhere, on anything. Work from another country with ease – all that’s required is an internet connection. Email, Lync and documents are always accessible.
My emails and calendar are on my mobile – with me pretty much anywhere I go
Files are not tied to a physical location (like my computer or USB stick) – files in the cloud are synced locally for offline use, but can be shared and globally accessible when I need them to be.
Lync allows you to have more effective meetings.
Using Lync, four guys from four different countries in three different time zones were able to meet, collaborate on a document, take notes, and have the meeting recorded for later use
Work like a network with Yammer and Delve
In the pipeline:
Yammer integration: soon, users will not be forced to authenticate again for Yammer – the experience switching from SharePoint to Yammer will be seamless
OWA:
Document Collaboration – Inline document editing with Office Web Apps, easily reply to an email with an edited document, collaborate and edit your documents from within OWA. Real time co-authoring if the document is stored in OneDrive.
Groups and Converstations – Quickly and easily keep track of the groups that you’re a part of, and see when there’s new posts. Create groups from OWA an continue your Yammer conversations from your email. Group membership is integrated across Exchange, SharePoint, and Yammer. Clicking on the group will open its conversation feed, which is the same one as in Yammer.
Delve & Office Graph – The newest aspect of Enterprise Social, dynamically updates with documents and information that is important to you making you more productive.
Clutter – Uses machine learning on the back end to learn how you prioritize your email, and keep your inbox uncluttered. Kind of like junk mail, but for everything.
In the pipeline:
Custom themes: change the colors and upload a custom logo – replace the Office 365 login screen with a custom image and company logo
Enable First-Release in Office 365 to see new features before they are available for public release
Also, never underestimate the need for proper planning and above all else… TRAINING!
Office graph consumes your interactions with content and people to put together what you should be aware of.
Presented to Me: Office Graph determines that you were at a meeting based on your Outlook calendar, and a document that is stored in OneDrive was presented at that meeting. Office Graph uses this information to bring this document forward and allow you to have access to it as something recently presented to you.
Delve presents activity driven views and insights based on how often you work with someone
You can only view content that you have access to – only surfaces public signals (activity done in public sites like Yammer).
Delve uses its machine learning logic to surface the information that is most relevant to you, and gives you further options for finding information with the filter tags along the top.
Delve adds a layer of information about your colleagues that we haven’t seen before, like who they work with, who we’ve both worked with, what documents they’re working on, and a relational view of their org chart.
