May different reasons for choosing Hybrid.
Maybe you are planning a migration to Office 365?
Easy extranet for external partners in Office 365, easy to share with outside users.
etc
Supports
SharePoint Search
From on-premises: Users can see both local and remote results
From Office 365: Users can see both local and remote results
Business Connectivity services
From Office 365: Users can perform read and write operations. The BCS service connects to an on-premises SharePoint Server 2013 farm. The BCS service configured on the on-premises farm brokers the connection to on-premises OData Service endpoints. Requires an app for SharePoint or an external list installed on the SharePoint Online site collection.
Duet Enterprise Online
From Office 365: Users can perform read and write operations against an on-premises SAP system
Reverse Proxy This server is responsible for accepting and authenticating inbound traffic from the Internet and publishing out the CSOM service endpoint for the inbound request to connect to. It is in the perimeter network.
Hybrid search results are displayed in separate section.
Microsoft are working on a solution that would allow the reultsets to be joined. The users does not necessarily want to care about if the results are form on-prem or Office 365
No common metadata across On-Prem and Office 365
Content Type hub will not work across On-Prem and Office 365
Retention policies etc will not be comon on OnPrem and Office 365 they would have to be created on both platforms
Same goes for installing apps, branding etc
