Oedipus The King Essay
Crafting an essay on "Oedipus the King" presents a unique set of challenges. The complexity of
the play, authored by Sophocles, demands a deep understanding of Greek tragedy, literary
analysis, and psychological intricacies. Exploring the themes of fate, free will, and the
consequences of one's actions, requires a nuanced approach to deciphering Oedipus' character
and the unfolding tragedy.
Navigating through the intricate plot and unraveling the symbolism within the play can be a
daunting task. Analyzing the character dynamics, the role of oracles, and the intricate interplay
between destiny and personal choices demands careful consideration. Additionally, delving into
the historical and cultural context of ancient Greece adds another layer of complexity to the
essay.
Furthermore, writing an essay on "Oedipus the King" requires the ability to articulate insightful
interpretations, drawing connections between the characters and the broader themes. Unraveling
the layers of Oedipus' character, from his tragic flaws to his journey towards self-discovery,
necessitates a keen understanding of classical literature and the psychological aspects of the
narrative.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Oedipus the King" involves a substantial intellectual
investment. It requires a grasp of Greek literature, a skillful analysis of complex themes, and an
ability to articulate profound insights. While the endeavor may be challenging, the reward lies in
unraveling the timeless intricacies of this ancient masterpiece.

Lucretia Ideal Roman Women
Tharoon Balaji
Roman TES s
Dr. Thomas
In this paragraph I argue that ideal Roman women preserved their honor by
maintaining their household duties and being loyal. Lucretia s many qualities give
the prize of this contest in womanly virtues to Lucretia (Rogers 117), indicating the
ways in which model Roman women should act. Lucretia demonstrates basic
household responsibilities, such as spinning wool (Rogers 117). Lucretia is seen as
an ideal and honorable Roman woman. Producing wool fulfills a household duty and
provides a characteristic of an ideal woman. Therefore, being an ideal woman is
being an honorable woman. Acting as a courteous host is another responsibility and
ideal for women. Tarquin was hospitably welcomed,
The Work Of The Theorist Martin Heidegger
This essay aims to analyze and discuss the work of the theorist Martin Heidegger in
relation to usable web design and how people learn in a contemporary environment
by interacting with tools, specifically those of online technology such as websites. It
will look at Heidegger s thinking about human activity and the relationship between
theory and practice, and will also examine websites that focus on allowing the user
the best possible user experience through Heidegger s notions of ready to hand and
co responsibility. In western philosophy, from Descartes to Plato, it is thought that
we first need to know in theory how to do something and that everything can be
explained with theories, even human activities. Human beings observe objects as
conscious subjects, which would mean that a theoretical perspective is preferred to
that of an involved and practical one (GarcГa PeГ±alvo, 2008, p.32). Heidegger
believes that in order for one to gain better understanding of the world and our
relationship to it, we need to do so through practical terms rather than theory first.
This is because he thinks theoretical knowledge should not imply that one knows how
to do something practically, but rather theoretical knowledge would depend on
practical skills being gained first (GarcГa PeГ±alvo, 2008, p.32). This is not saying
that Heidegger is against theory, theory is an important and powerful instrument if a
limited one as it is only part of how human beings cope with things and we encounter

Of...
The purpose for President John F. Kennedy s putting a man into space and
developing a national space organization was national prestige (Compton). Russian
had already taken leaps ahead of us in the exploration of space by the successful
launch of the Sputnik satellite and the success of Yuri Gagarin being the first human
to journey into outer space (Doran). Kennedy also fulfilled the role of a true leader
by giving the county direction in the form of a difficult and worthy goal.
Subsequently, the space race had begun and the entire county had become spectators.
It was the marriage of government and scientist which eventually lead to the building

The Last House On Wes Craven Research Paper
Wes Craven was a writer, director, producer, and he was known for his innovative
work on horror films that showed his creative imagination through his work. During
his career, Craven won nine cinematic awards and received three nominations. His
films, Scream, The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, and A Nightmare
on Elm Street reinvented the horror genre today. His films didn t show ghosts or
monsters, it showed the nightmare of real life violence. Throughout Wes Craven s
career, he took the horror genre to new and unpredictable places. Craven s first film
was The Last House on the Left in 1972 which he filmed and directed and only had
the budget of $90,000. The Last House on the Left captured the mood of what was

His theme was that even the most civilized person can be capable of doing barbaric
acts. Wes Craven went to dark places to make movies and mostly focused on the
fear everybody has deep down inside. Craven based most of his horror films off of
rage that was happening in his life. Last House on the Left was based on the rage
of making his first movie, broke, and how no one knew of him. He wanted to see
what would come out of a movie based on his feelings and about life at the moment
or in his past. Craven s films set new waves for future filmmakers to strive for. He
was able to combine the brutal and the thoughtful into his films and tried to get
into his mind and heart. Craven made some of films confrontational about what is
going on in society or his films show moments that grab you at the throat. He uses
different methods to capture his audience to really scare them. For example, in the
first twenty minutes of Scream is intense, scary, and bloody and he captures the
audiences attention with the first scene of the movie and it refused to play by the
rules. Craven made his films that were about the here and now, it wasn t about
fantasy. He believed the scariest idea was what is close to home, what we know
best and what we think we trust. The horror genre shows what we are not
comfortable in and honestly shows what we are like as a society or as families.
Antimicrobial Activity of the Phytochemical Constituents...
Abstract
The antimicrobial activity of alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, phenol and
cardic glycoside present in the various parts of Chrysophyllum albidium plant were
investigated. These phytochemical were determined quantitatively and tested against
staphylococcus aureus, B. subtilis, pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, C. tetani, and
the fungus; candida albicans. Most the plant parts were found to contain alkaloids,
tannins, phenols and flavonoids except for the absence of cardic glycosides in the
root, tannins in leaves, and phenol in seed. The significance of the plant parts in
traditional medicine and the importance of the distribution of these phytochemicals
were discussed with respect to the role of these plant parts in ... Show more content on

Collection of microorganisms
The slants of different microorganisms were obtained from a laboratory stock at the
Department of Microbiology University of Ibadan. These microorganism are
staphylococcus aureus, B. subtilis, C. tetani,, pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, and
the fungus, candida albicans.
Phytochemical screening
Chemical tests were carried out on the aqueous extract and on the powdered
specimens using standard procedures to identify the constituents as described by
Sofowara (1993), Trease and Evans (1989) and Harborne (1973).
Test for alkaloids: 1cm3 of 1 % HCl was added to 3cm3 of each extract in a test tube.
Each extract treated with a few drop of Meyer s reagent. A creamy white precipitate
was observed indicating the presence of alkaloids
Test for tannins: About 0.5 g of the dried powdered samples was boiled in 20 ml of
water in a test tube and then filtered. A few drops of 0.1% ferric chloride was added
and observed for brownish green or a blue black colouration.
Test for saponin: About 2 g of the powdered sample was boiled in 20 ml of distilled
water in a water bath and filtered. 10ml of the filtrate was mixed with 5 ml of
distilled water and shaken vigorously for a stable persistent froth. The frothing was
mixed with 3 drops of olive oil and shaken vigorously, then observed for the
Conviction Of Criminal Cases
One must understand that civil cases can also be considered criminal cases. A civil
case is generally between two individuals but if tried and sent to court with a jury it
could be deemed a criminal case against society. In chapter seven we learn of a
group of teenage nursing aids that were charged with abuse of elders living in the
home. I believe the nursing aids committed at least two intentional torts. The first
of the intentional torts is assault and battery on the elders of the good Samaritan
home. The teenagers were said to have verbally and physically abused elderly
patients (book 7) . The second tort is the invasion of the elderly s privacy. There are
four different ways one could invade someone s personal privacy and the one that
Descriptive Essay On Gospel Music
As I entered Chrysler Hall I instantly became nervous. Shamefully Mann s World
Concert and Comedy Show will be the first live gospel performance I have ever
attended. I didn t know what to expect. I m not as savvy in the gospel genre as I
should be. The only songs that I have heard the Mann family perform were the songs
they performed with Kirk Franklin and the Family and the popular ones that play on
the radio. I glanced around the auditorium and it appeared to a full house. The
audiencehad several nationalities ready to enjoy a night of gospel music. There was a
deejay table off to the side entertaining the crowd as everyone arrived at their seats.
The stage had band instruments towards the back of the stage with a deejay table
in front of them. The lights were beautiful; they displayed various scenes and
sceneries throughout the show. First to arrive on stage was David Mann Jr. He
walked out and headed towards the deejay tables that were center stage. His energy
and music selections pumped the crowd up and had everyone ready to party. The
lights on the stage had a party appearance and holograms of a dancer. As the lights
begin to flash a different color I anxiously waited for the next song to start. He played

What Are The Destinies Of Those Who Is Habakkokkuk
After the determination of God to destroy his enemies as mentioned in 1:6, it
suddenly mentions about comfort to those who seek refuge in him in 1:7. Also, it
says God cares for those who trust in him. Then in the next verse, the hymn moves
back to the main theme of destruction. It shows a contrast of two destinies of those
who take refuge of Godand those who oppose God. Why it appears at this location?
The commentary refers this verse as parallel with Psalm 34:8; 100:5 and 135:3
(p.24). It suggests the absence of any names in the prophecy means that people (of
Jerusalem or of Nineveh) have to decide whether they want to be people to whom
verse 7 applies (care) or people to whom verse 8 applies (destruct) (p.25). I do not
agree it is a choice for the people of Nineveh as in verse 8 it mentions about the
unequivocal ending of Nineveh.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, after Habakkuk raises the question in 1:12 17, there seems to be a moment
of silence in 2:1. Why? The commentary mentions that in some OT stories people
apparently get an immediate response when they turn to Yahweh to ask something
but in other people have to wait (p.65). The commentary suggests that it witnesses to
the fact that Yahweh does respond but also the fact of Yahweh s freedom. I agree
with the commentary that Habakkuk should not think up a response and assume it
was Yahweh s. There is a difference between prophecy and theological reflection.
Although there is no mention in the book, I am speculating whether Habakkuk
confrontational attitude changes during that waiting period resulting in his
submission to Yahweh and accepting worst situation in chapter
Analysis Of The Green Eyed Monster
Danella Lepore
Dr. McGrady
English 1202
8 April 2015
The Green Eyed Monster Shakespeare s Othello has many different reoccurring
themes, particularly love, death and infidelity. One of the most obvious themes that
drive a lot of the play is jealousy, stemming from the mischievous ways of Iago. His
actions create a chain reaction of speculation, lying and most of all jealousy. Iago who
plays a manipulative and dishonest character seems to bring out the worst traits of
many of the characters within the play especially Othello. These reoccurring issues of
manipulation and hatred begin early on in the play. It has been discovered that
Othello and Desdemona have married, for everyone around these two, including
friends and family this is a problem. This is especially an issue for Iago and
Roderigo. Each of them seem to have there own reasons why these two should not
be together, one for love of Desdemona and the other for hatred of Othello. They set
up to break the newly weds apart by setting the stage with an accusation that
Desdemona has cheated on Othello with Cassio, Othello s lieutenant. After these
accusations are made the lives of all the characters seem to spiral out of control, the
relationship that takes the biggest toll in the end seems to be Othello and
Desdemona. It is clear to see that this green eyed monster in Shakespeare s words, has
the power to control the psyche of the human, resulting in unthinkable acts from many
of the characters involved. Jealousy
Business Analysis of Harvey Norman Essay
Business Analysis of Harvey Norman
Industry analysis
While Harvey Norman trading as a multi sector business selling computer, electrical,
furniture and bedding goods, the retail industry in which HVN operates involves
larger range of goods and services (all customer consumables). The largest product
segment is clothing, footwear and accessories. However, driven by growth in
product technology and functionality, electrical goods have overtaken goods from
department stores over the past five years with several other major competitors (Dick
smith, Office works etc.) who kept pressure on HVN.
According to Australian Bureau of Statistics, the sector has been grown modestly
over 2011 12, with sales increasing by 1.5% to $21600 million. ... Show more content

This success made Harvey Norman to expand its market into the furniture and
computer industries.
The main competitive advantage is the low price. Because it sales its products in
superstore, the intermediary business can be eliminated which directly reduces the
cost. Another merit is that Harvey Norman is a comprehensive supermarket including
different kinds of products, which can increase the sales opportunity rather than JB
HiFi that only focuses on electronics.
Harvey Norman is analyzed by evaluating its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and
threats. * Strengths
Harvey Norman holdings Ltd has its strength on the scale of retails, such as
electrical products, furniture and so on. It has a very popular slogan saying that
Go Harvey, Go Harvey, Go Harvey Norman , which makes a brand effect for the
company. Besides, with the comparative advantage of its size, the HVN also has
superiority of buying in bulk. It has relative lower cost for retail so that the price
will be lower. Moreover, Harvey Norman follows the solid franchise model, which
shows that approximately 35% of its revenue is generated from its franchise. *
Weaknesses
* Opportunities
HVN has expanded its market overseas, for instance, like New Zealand, Slovenia,
Ireland, Singapore and Malaysia. It may earn more returns from oversea market in the
future. * Threat

Cronon discusses what he believes it means to be liberally educated and the benefits
to individuals as well as the general public. Cronon opens with the question, What
does it mean to be a liberally educated person? Then he provides us with background

Essay On Road Trip
What would the United States be like without road trips? Road trips have been a
vital part of the history of America. Road trips have helped Americans explore the
vast lands that make up the US. These people take these trips for family vacations,
solo vacations, business, to move to a new location, to escape. These trips help
people gain a better understanding of people and different cultures within their own
country. This question is posed in David Campany A Short History of the Long Road
Is America imaginable without the roadtrip? (p.8) Without people exploring the land
and having a desire to move and start new many towns and cities would not have
been started. People like to explore and see new things that they may not have in
their birthplaces. This sense of exploring is what drives the American road trip.
When cars like the Model T helped people afford their own car people wanted to
travel. They wanted to take family trips or leave behind their old lives. As cars
advanced, trips began to go over longer distances, but ... Show more content on

The Power Of Authority In Waiting For Godot
Significant texts in the period 1945 1991 are characterised by an intense questioning
of authority. To what extent is this true of the texts you have studied from this
period? The period immediately after the Second World War saw numerous political
and social changes within the world. Characterised by a growing sense of power and
authority held by the American government, many began to see this as a threat or
greatly detrimental. Beckett s Waiting for Godot (0000) reflects upon how this
growing power, and an intense questioning of it, results in disillusionment and

Through this, it questions and highlights the detriments of strong and all
encompassing political power, specifically in the US. A shift in paradigms between
the role of the government and the role of the people, due to extraterrestrial presence
of Klaatu, exposes the power held by the US and USSR in deciding the fate of the
masses. The US government is vulnerable in the presence of Klaatu, as he threatens
the authority they hold with nuclear advancement, as Klaatu s planet is further
advanced in both weaponry and harmony. Thus the US government is considered
redundant in Klaatu s pursuit for peace, hence Klaatu attempts to communicate with
the people of society in order to successfully pursue his mission for peace. In this,
Klaatu not only conveys mistrust of the US government but is also now considered a
representation of the people in physical appearance and in his attitudes towards the
government and desire for

Rogers, I felt that my knowledge of stuttering and its impacts definitely expanded. It
was both revealing and somewhat heartbreaking to know that although school
psychologists don t work directly with kids who stutter, they can still notice the
impact that it has on the child. Choosing childhood onset fluency disorder for this
interview was mostly influenced by my own experience with someone who
stuttered as an adult. The person who stuttered was my high school science teacher
and I vividly remember the first time people heard him speak. Kids would secretly
tease him or interrupt him when he was speaking to speed up how long he was
taking to make a point. Although I know it probably affected him a lot more when he
was younger than it did then, I was still sensitive to his communication difficulties.
My high school teacher is who I would consider a stuttering success story because
of his accomplishments. He was always known to be very intelligent, but also he
was popular at his undergraduate institution. He was so popular that he had won
homecoming king and was a member of one of the prestigious African American
fraternities. I m sure that he experienced what a lot of people who stutter don t
have the chance to experience. However, I am still forced to reflect on what his
experiences as a young child must have been like in a rural town where most kids

What Is The Manifesto Of The Communist Party
Dylan Fischer
In the Manifesto of the Communist Party, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles aim to
represent the working class of society and condemn the oppressive nature that a
capitalistic society puts on them. They address the problems with capitalism,
specifically its economic model, in order to help define communism as a social model.
The Manifesto provides the history of class oppression and compares previous
structures to its current situation in 1848. Marx and Engels are calling to all
proletariats to wake up to the injustices that are forced upon them and realized it is
time to restructure the classes. They provide the theory of revolution in which

the chance of contacting this disease. A vaccine called Pneumococcal is available for
people to take (Centers for Disease Control, 2014). There is not only one type of

The Irony of the Jungle
The Irony of The Jungle
Between 1870 and 1900 Chicago grew from a population of 299,000 to almost 1.7
million, the fastest growing city ever at the time. This surge in population was largely
attributed to immigrants coming from European countries seeking a chance for
employment and new freedoms associated with moving to the United States at the
time. 1905, in particular, was a historic year when a surge of over 1 million
immigrants came to the city. During this time, author Upton Sinclair was working

Who Is King Daniel
[2]In the beautiful city of Babylon, there once lived a man named Daniel. [1]He
was an advisor to the king. Daniel was different from the other advisors. He
believed in the one true God. One day, two of the king s other advisors watched as
Daniel diligently prayed to God. [6]They hated Daniel. He was always praying to
God for guidance and he was always honest. He wanted to do the right thing. The
advisors despised him because of that. Then one day, as they watched Daniel pray,
they came up with an evil idea. They would write up a document that would say
that no one would be allowed to pray. [5]If they disobeyed this law they would be
thrown into the Lion s Den like a piece of meat. [3]Suddenly, one day after the king
had signed the document, they caught him defying the law and praying any way.
They rushed into his room and dragged him to the king s throne room. [4]Forcing

Did the God you believe and trust in protect you? Daniel answered him and told him

Analysis Of The Killer Angels
Bravery can make a big difference in the outcome of a battle as this has been
demonstrated in the book we read, The Killer Angels. Though sometimes bravery
can also be a very foolish act, such as when you don t make the best decisions for
everyone as a whole. Foolishness when making important decisions can comeback
and cost you later, possibly causing loss of lives and changing the momentum of a
battle. There are some cases in this book, The Killer Angels, that prove bravery can
be a good thing and that it can make a huge difference. I think that bravery is a
good characteristic for leaders to have especially when the leaders use their actions
to set an example and inspire bravery among those soldiers who may be hesitant to
fight.
There are multiple examples, throughout this book, of bravery and how courage has
changed the outcome of a battle or prevented disaster. In the beginning of this book,
Sorrel the spy who is hired by General Longstreet, to spy on the Union spots the
enemy troops less than 200 miles from their camp. He hurries back to warn General
Robert E. Lee that their army must move to prevent complete disaster and the
destruction of the Confederate Army. He travels through the night in the enemies
territory to get this urgent news to General Lee. This was a brave act on Sorrel part
as he was traveling at night and he traveled across enemy lines through the Picket
Line which are the people that guard a armies cap to make sure they are not attack

Policy Paradox Summary
Deborah Stone begins her book, Policy Paradox, by stating, a theory of policy
politics must start with a simple model of political society, just as economics starts
with a simple model of economic society. Deborah Stone examines two policy
making models to describe the paradox s of the process model for public policy. The
two models include: the market (rational model) and the Polis (community) model.
Stone states she contrasts these two models to illuminate some ways the market
model distorts political life. As discussed in class, the market model follows five
steps:
1.A social system in which individuals pursue their own welfare;
2.Participants in competition with one another for scarce resources by exchanging
things with others whenever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Situations where self interest and public interest work against each other are
known as commons problems. In the market model the chief source of conflict is
individual s perceived welfare vs. another s perceived welfare. In the polis model
the chief source of conflict is self interest vs. public interest, or how to have both
private benefits and collective benefits. Stone notes most actions in the market
model do not have social consequences but in the polis, commons problems are
everything. It is rare in the polis that the costs and benefits of an action are entirely
self contained, affect only one or two individuals, or are limited to direct and
immediate effects. Actions in the polis have unanticipated consequences, side effects,
long term effects, and effect many people. Stone states, one major dilemma in the
polis is how to get people to give weight to these broader consequences in their
private calculus of choices, especially in an era when the dominant culture celebrates
private consumption and personal gain. That is a

Two Different Strategies For Grafting The Surface Of The...
Chapter 3 describes two different strategies for grafting the surface of the FO
membrane; LbL SA or one step H layers of GO nanosheets/PLL, to form a stable
modified surface of GO/PLL LbL or GO/PLL H membranes. The pristine and coated
membranes were analyzed to confirm the successful grafting of GO/PLL, and the
structure, topography, thermal stability, surface coating density, antibacterial,
hydrophilicity and surface charge properties of the membranes were studied.
Chapter 4 demonstrates the utilization of oxygenated, one step in situ deposition of
DA to immobilize the GO nanosheets onto the membrane surface. The coating
conditions and DS concentration were optimized based on Taguchi s statistical
experimental design and the resultant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To achieve these goals, several technical problems had to be tackled including design
of experiments, extensive sample analysis, data acquisition and deep data
interpretation. To be specific, the innovative contributions of this work include the
following:
(i) Novel implementation of GO/PLL LbL or GO/PLL H FO membrane surface
modification coating for biofouling mitigation. The exclusive modification grafting
chemistry utilized in this work presented stable and durable membrane surface
modification techniques.
(ii) The new and successful application of the single step in situ deposition of DA to
immobilize the GO nanosheets onto the membrane surface was achieved. Applying
GO nanosheets with the proper concentration rendered them tightly bound to the
membrane surface without aggregations. This optimum modification also improved
the membrane surface morphology, smoothness, hydrophilicity and antibacterial
properties, resulting in improved desalination performance and better biofouling
resistance. This simple and stable surface modification has great potential in the
improvement of FO membranes.
(iii) The novel method for GO nanosheets immobilization onto the surface of FO
TFC membranes through self assembly and oxidative cross linking of TA and pEI
using a rapid, single step protocol from mild aqueous solution was achieved.

Why Do We Need Censorship In Schools
There is a book out there that talks about a topic that you do not agree with. While
you may find the book offensive, others may find it inspiring or a reflection of their
life. These varying points of view are what often lead to people calling for a ban of a
certain book in a school or public library. This brings to light a topic that impacts all
of us in one way or another, censorshipin the form of book bans. This leads to a topic
that can be the center of debate for many, whether or not we should allow the
censorship of books, or other forms of media, in our libraries. And by censoring
books, we are referring to taking them off of the shelves. Of course, many people
have strong opinions on this. Coincidentally, I also have an opinion. My opinion is
that we should not censor books, while making you understand why the idea of
censorship in our school and public libraries goes against the fundamental values and

For example, some people can find certain works offensive, usually due to reasons
such as language, violence, sexual content, or the lifestyles portrayed in the pages.
However, I would like to point out that if someone does not agree with something,
or if they find it offensive, they can exercise their freedom of choice and choose
not to read the book. It should not be up to a portion of the public to decide what is
acceptable for others. If we start denying this freedom of choice as it related to
books that are available in our libraries, what will the next step in denying our
freedom of choice? If one stops to think of why we love to live in the United States,
freedom has to be at the top of this

Argumentative Essay On The Iraq War
The Iraq War started in 2003. The war was a protracted armed conflict that began
with the invasion of Iraq by a coalition led by the United states. This ultimately led to
overthrowing Saddam Hussein s government.
The political, economic, and social reasons that led to the war.
Iraq has been the concentration of the universal group and has been included
unmistakably in the media as of late, as the radical Islamist assemble known as the
Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has significantly expanded its energy and impact in
the area in the last half of 2014. The political turmoil and definitely crumbled security
condition, which describes present day Iraq, can be followed back to the United States
intrusion of that nation and ISIS, which has as of late developed in Iraq and Syria,
in the revolt against the resultant US occupation, in those days as al Qaeda in Iraq.
In any case, for what reason did the US attack and involve Iraq anyway? Today,
there is a troublesome civil argument about what the Bush organization s intentions
were, with the probably clarification being a blend of the majority of the reasons
advertised. What should likewise be considered is that the occasions paving the way
to the 2003 attack just go most of the way to clarify why the US propelled this
crusade, and keeping in mind the end goal to comprehend the intricate and
multidimensional components adding to the Bush organization s choice to attack
Iraq, one must backpedal further and look at pre 9/11 US
Beauvoir Second Sex Analysis
The Second Sex is one of the earliest attempts to confront human history from a
feminist perspective. It won de Beauvoir many admirers and just as many detractors.
Today, many regard this massive and meticulously researched masterwork as not only
as pillar of feminist thought but of twentieth century philosophy in general. It remains
to this day one of the foundational texts in philosophy, feminism, and women s
studies. De Beauvoir s primary thesis is that men fundamentally oppress women by
characterizing them, on every level, as the Other, defined exclusively in opposition to
men. Man occupies the role of the self, or subject; woman is the object, the other. He
is essential, absolute, and transcendent. She is inessential, incomplete, and mutilated.

This semester we have done many reading s that have touched on topics such as

Dorothy s childhood in a way where you get the picture of the true effects of poverty
on her family, and herself. This look into her life can show the reader a real life
depiction of her emotions and feelings at any given time in her life. This story of her

If a rich man were to be portraying this amount of masculinity then he is going to be
looked at as though he is a leader not a trouble maker. Dorthy also explains that the
men in her family were players explaining that they took up women as if it was a
craft, thus relating it to the procreation part of manhood. There is also the fact that
the adaptation of manhood seen in her younger cousins appears as though to be
sped up when compared to the way traditionally manhood is adopted. As Dorothy
puts it My cousins as boys who in a matter of weeks turned into hard faced men.
(Allison, pg. 28) This is another abnormality from traditional manhood that the men
in her family took on. Overall Dorothy s description of manhood in her family fits
the standards but also is jacked up. This shows that while traditional masculinity is
very much at play here it is also a lot more in focus in the men in her families lives.
Ultimately this gives the reader a look at the role poverty plays in masculinity.
Another issue with gender and poverty that can be seen in the book Two of Three
Things I Know For Sure. is femininity and how that is affected when you have to
work to makes ends meet. Dorothy has an entire section of the novel where she dives
into how her income affected her and the other women in her family through the
portrayal of femininity. The reader can see Dorothy s strained relationship with

no knowledge. To achieve wisdom, the Buddhist must clear his head of any negative
thoughts or distractions. This process is totally opposite to Western education, the
education that Franny and Zooey live in, which is mentioned a lot of times in the
book and stuffs its students with knowledge. Franny criticizes that the poets at her
school does not describe anything beautiful in their work, but only get into her
head. She is disappointed in herself, as well, for trying to save wisdom through the
Jesus Prayer as others save knowledge. But what she does not know is that true no
knowledge cannot be saved. In the beginning of the book, it shows that Franny s
boyfriend, Lane, has the biggest ego in the book. The course to Buddhist no
knowledge is very difficult to do. The person would have to let go of their personal
ego and selfish concerns to reach open minded beauty. Franny dislikes her
professors at her school because they are absorbed in their own egos, and whatever
detachment they have is and detachment from humanity. Buddhists try to get rid of
their negativity ego and gain up the positive part of the ego. Zooey tells Franny she
has to act, as that is her God given talent, and use her ego as best she can. Franny

commerce companies should follow.
The first category is building a secure network. There are necessary steps in how a

entire dossiers of individuals who have done nothing more than purchase something

Every company is responsible for securing the contents of their databases and

but an all of the above method is necessary to ensure consumer privacy and

There are six categories in which a company must be compliant in order to protect

Black Metropolis Analysis
The terms Bronzeville and Black Metropolis can be used interchangeably to signify
the interdependence between the two as an emblematic space for blacks that
attempted to construct a sustainable all black utopia in Chicago. The Black
Metropolis began as a black community instituted from forced segregation that
eventually cultivated the imagined neighborhood of Bronzeville, where black
Chicagoans asserted their collective agency to legitimize their racefor complete
integration. The geographic imaginary of Bronzeville relied heavily on a unified [all

The Hofstede Model Of Cultural Differences
Communication is one of the most important aspects of our lives. It is a process that
ties us together and helps us to get most of our work done. Communication plays a
big role in transmitting cultural values from one generation to the next.
Communication can be categorized as two; verbal and non verbal. In a multiracial
country such as Malaysiagood communication can be considered as a savior to keep
everyone united. Being a multiracial country, it shows the existence of cultural
diversity in Malaysia. Cultural diversity often leads to society s biggest challenge.

Malay is the largest ethnic group in Malaysia and Malay language is their mother
tongue. Malay language is Malaysia s official language.
Before we go deeper into the communication aspect, let us analyse the general
cultural values from these two major ethnic in Malaysia. The Hofstede Model of
Cultural Dimensions can be a great use when it comes to analyzing cultures. Hofstede
basically treats all Malaysian cultures equally. However, as based on the Hofstede
Model of Cultural Dimensions, to compare both the Malaysian Malay and Indian
cultures, both of these cultures actually falls under the high context culture. High
context communication involves emotions and close relationships while low context
interactions use the logical part of the brain and are less personal. However, this does
not mean these two cultures are equally the same with one another as there are
similarities and differences between these two cultures.
As there are many aspects of cultures that can be studied and described about the
two cultures, only few major aspects of cultural values will be discussed in this
paper. One of the major cultural values that can be compared between the two
cultures is the Malays rank honesty as first on their list of cultural values whereas the
Indians find family as the important aspect in their cultural values.
In terms of marriage and weddings, there is a pure mix of cultures within the Hindu

that money, when spent wisely and with the right attitude, can provide the most
elusive of all human experiences: happiness. In a changing social climate with
advances in technology offering unmatched convenience, and a culture in which
diverse people with equally diverse sets of values come together, the study of what
truly makes us happy is especially relevant now more than ever. While money can
certainly be spent in a manner which will create happiness, what Sunstein neglects to
address in his writing is that more money does not always equate to more happiness,
regardless of how and when it is spent.
In Sunstein s first argument, he asserts that an experience, such as a vacation,
provides a lasting memory which can be reflected upon for years to come; whereas a
purchase, such as a new car, evokes a temporary happiness to which we become
desensitized very quickly. Secondly, he contends that using money to create special
treats, combined with a third argument of delaying gratification, will create an
anticipation of the future that allows us to be happier in the present. Further, Sunstein
insists that spending money to buy time used to spend with friends a family will
enhance our abilities to be happier; lastly, that the act of spending
Analysis Of The Folk Of Leicester And The City
FULL TRANSCRIPT: Karl Wilkins Today I am going to share with you all, what I
intend to do to improve the lives of you, the folk of Leicester and the city that
belongs to you. In recent light, we have all seen first hand, culture, heritage and
local economy disintegrate as money spinning big businesses pillage and invade
our family and community areas. Gobbling up small businesses and breaking local
links, taking away pride and pleasure from our lives, but enough is enough. I will
prevent this operation in turning us from people into puppets by the one fits all
attitude of global business, that has been allowed to infect Leicester,
unnecessarily, because the current council sheepishly cannot see past the bags of
money being stuffed into their pockets. The true value of this city and its people is
being depreciated by these acts of selfishness, greed and ignorance. No more, will I
allow it to happen and no more will you have to stand for it. It is the biggest
scandal Leicester has seen and it is happening right now. Land is being sold,
neglected land, that was never given a chance. The council sells it cheap, to anyone
who can afford it, making it anyone else s problem but their own, turning away from
their own responsibilities, conveniently making money in the process. The global
giants come swarming in like vultures snapping up easy business expanses, whilst
local economy suffers and green spaces vanish. I say, how about provide more parks,
more cycle paths and walkways?
Cause And Effects Of Deforestation
A tree is beautiful, but what s more, it has a right to life; like water, the sun and the
stars, it is essential. Life on earth is inconceivable without trees. Forests create
climate, climate influences peoples character, and so on and so forth. There can be
neither civilization nor happiness if forests crash down under the axe, if the climate
is harsh and severe, if people are also harsh and severe. ... What a terrible future!
Anton Pavlovich Chekhov
The forest is a place filled with many wonders. Unfortunately, because of the effects
deforestation it s quickly being consumed away, due to the need of agriculture,
livestock, and also the need to create housing, according to the. According to Alina
Bradford a contributing writer for live science she writes in her article deforestation
fact, cause and effects this is quoted,
NASA predicts that if current deforestation levels proceed, the world s rainforests
may be completely in as little as 100 years .
Deforestation is leading to many problematic issues in our environment like
damaging water cycles, corrupting the soil and destroying wildlife.
First, the effects of deforestation will have trouble effects on the planet water cycles
because the trees help gather in maintain moisture. Trees Play a gigantic roll to the
water cycle. They absorb rain fall and produce water vapor that is released into the
atmosphere.

Examples Of Civil Disobedience In Antigone

established laws and taxes implemented by the tyrannous British. The British sought
to tighten their tyrannical control on the colonies with unfair laws and taxes,
however the sons of liberty weren t so willing to be forced to follow these
limitations. In revenge, they dumped 92,000 pounds of British teainto the ocean. This
was an active representation of civil disobedience. The sons of libertyrefused to
follow these unjust laws and protested by dumping the tea into the harbor. This act of
defiance occurs in the character Antigone. Antigone believes she must do what is
right and must bury her brother no matter what Creon and his law says. In Sophocles,

that if Creon won t change then the only way for him to see his error and change in
the future is for her to kill herself rather than let Creon s unjust sentencing kill her.

Data Structures amp; Algorithms
Our decision to implement the Hotel Management system using standard PC
technology and a commercial database product has narrowed our choices of
implementation algorithms and data structures. We have chosen to implement this
system with a PC database program (Access) that uses a relational data model.
Basically what this means is that related data is grouped together in what can be
logically viewed as a columnar table of records. Each record within a particular
table is composed of a number of fields that hold the relevant information. Each
record can be uniquely described by on or more fields in the record. These fields
are refered to as the records primary key. Information is retrieved from the table by
specifying the records primary key. The entire system is made up on a number of
tables, each of which can be thought of as describing one logical entity. For example
a custmomer is represented by a table that has field entries corresponding to the
customers name, address and so on. Information about each customer is retrieved by
specifying the customers name which is the primary key for the customer table.

Conflict In The Squid And The Whale
The Squid and the Whale
The movie begins with the dialogue, Mom and me versus you and dad . The
statement levels the field, on which the movie continues to play with the psyche of
its viewers for a full hour and fifteen minutes. The storyline had been no less than a
tennis doubles between Joan and Bernard, where Walt and Frank got stuck like two
amateurs in the game between pros. This game spirit is well maintained throughout
by the couple in their competition for career, kids, asserts (favourite books), and even
the cat!
The movie well portrays the conflict between the couple while maintaining the
different shades of grey in their character. Bernard was shown as an egoist, with
narcissism and no sense of responsibility for his actions, but he was also shown
having a vulnerable side of him. He lacked the capacity to contain emotions this
frequently made him feel that others are being difficult . His inability to express his

The evident boundaries between the mother son and father son dyad seemed to blur.
Walt realises of his lost bond with his mother and how he regrets his father not
being there in his childhood, just as he is unavailable for his younger brother now.
He realises his self image as being an emotional and sensitive person as opposed to
who he was trying to become with his father. As opposed to his character, Bernard
goes to Joan and requests her to re think the divorce. In his last scene with her, he
puts his guard down and expresses his vulnerability, to which Joan starts to cry as if
expressing her exhaustion and hopelessness. It s appreciable that though the
picturisation has been done from the point of view of Walt, it never fails to highlight
the emotions and sentiments of other characters invariably. With equal focus on all
the artists, it is hard to say who had the leading

Across the nation employment rates are holding steady for individuals with
intellectual disabilities and no progress is being made to increase those percentages.
Disability employee opportunities are not fair and lacking equity. The problem is that
people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have a difficult time trying to
receive employment opportunities. There are numerous factors that attribute to the
cause of this issue, which include individuals with disabilities can only attain lower
wage jobs, discrimination in the workplace, and their lack of a standardized education

Abstract
Chromium which is a chemical element ,a metal,is toxic pollutant .Nowdays these are
found to be present in soils due to many human activities. It affects plant system and
microorganisms that are present in soil as well.Phytoremediation has emerged as a
process to minimize or eliminate chromium from chromium stressed soils, but this
process takes long time.So when plant growth promoting bacteria( PGPB) is used
with this process as bioinoculant then it results into increased plant growth and higher
chromium reducing effects.PGPB via root architecture modification increases

Criminal Justice Theory Summary
The article seeks to address the question of why there is so little criminal justice
theory. The thesis of the article is that disregarded associations between the
inconvenience of political power and authoritative structures in the criminal justice
framework hold a vital component to understanding the tasks of this framework, in
regular and additionally atypical circumstances. The article begins by discussing the
absence of theoretical initiative in criminal justiceresearch.
A notion of this article is that consensus and conflict theories neglect to conform to
particular parts of criminal justice procedures and results; in which new theoretical
improvements are important to empower more significant research. It presents the
argument that the lack of political power that is coordinated toward specific crime
connected objectives, criminal justice systems, and subsystems have a tendency to
be loosely coupled. Loose coupling is intended to evoke elements that are receptive
to each other, as well as keeping up independent identities and some proof of physical
or coherent separateness.
To start with, be that as it may, Hagan accentuated that loosely coupled association

How Did Gene And Phineas Become Selfish
Imagine being faced with the opportunity to harm your enemy... Would you? That
is the opportunity that Gene Forester is faced with in the novel A Separate Peace.
Gene and Phineas were the types of friends that looked like they got along on both
sides, but Gene hated this kid and how it impacted himself. So naturally, when Gene
was on the branch with Finny, he had an urge to hurt Finny. That s why, Gene
Purposely jounced the branch they were on because he was immature, selfish, and
jealous. This poor behavior ultimately led to Phineas s death. Gene jounced the

of the book. Gene and Finny are also very different people. Gene liked Finny s

We know Gene was very jealous over Finny, but he was also extremely selfish.
Finny had everything going for him, athletics, academics, he could get out of
anything, and he went with the flow. Gene didn t have any of these traits. When
Finny wanted Gene to come to the beach, he wanted to stay and study the whole
time, instead of going and spending time with friends. Another thing is, Gene knew
it was all his fault! None of them ever accused me of being responsible for what
had happened to Phineas, either because they could not believe it or else because
they could not understand it. I would have talked about that, but they would not,
and I would not talk about Phineas in any other way. (Knowles, 12.14). Gene
jounced the branch because he was immature. Obviously, we can see that Gene has
a lot of immaturities I m him. He acted very childishly throughout the whole novel
and it shows when he does the things he did. Examples of shaking the branch can
show how he s immature, but it can be taken in different ways. Gene thought of
other things like school over things like if two people are on a small branch it will
shake. If anyone had been suspicious of me, I might have developed some strength
to defend myself. (Knowles, 113) This quote highlights that Gene did in fact jounce
the limb, and did not want anyone to become suspicious that he did it. This is
extremely immature because he could have at least apologized for his previous

Article Review The aim of this paper is to examine the article by Gunnison and
McCartan (2010). The paper aims to expand knowledge on the issue of female
offending by examining some of the different trajectories through which female
offending occurs. In particular, the paper examines the female offending from the
perspective of two discrete female offending groups; persistent offenders and late
onset offenders. Persistent offenders, otherwise known as chronic offenders, are
those who offend early in life and fail to age out of the crime while late on set
offenders are those women who begin offending later in life.
Criminological Theories The criminological theories that are being examined within
the study are state dependent and population heterogeneity theories. Heterogeneity
theories state that there is usually an early proneness for individuals to commit crime
and that this vulnerability and difference in the early development of an individual
persists over time. On the other hand, state dependent theories are to the effect that
the events and actions that occur in the course of someone s life influences the
probability of subsequent actions and events. The researchers adopt the population
heterogeneity perspective which states that crime results from the persistent
antisocial tendencies that are developed early in life (Gunnison, McCartan, 2010).
With regard to state dependence, the

The Use Of Supernatural In Macbeth
In the tragedy Macbeth, Shakespeare s use of the supernatural to develop themes
relating to human emotion is evident. A large portion of the play is based around the
supernatural s role of pre ordaining Macbeth s fate, and his free will to believe in
such predictions. Supernatural occurrences, such as the appearance of Banquo s
ghost in particular, personify Macbeths guilt and conscience. Supernatural beings,
such as the three witches, appear throughout the play as recurring symbols for the
themes of Macbeth. In addition to these symbols and appearances, the characters of
Macbeth themselves make references to and call on the supernatural, to the point of
taking on characteristics of evil and supernatural.
One of the earliest scenes of Macbeth depicts the three witches predicting the fate of
Banquo and Macbeth. During this scene, the witches establish that Macbeth will
become king, while Banquo s children will later become kings. Lesser than
Macbeth, and greater. Not so happy, yet much happier. Thou shalt get kings, though
thou be none. So all hail Macbeth and Banquo. (Shakespeare. 1.3, 63 66.) Although
at first Macbeth and Banquo both jest over this prediction, over the course of the
play Macbeth begins to believe the prophecies made by the three witches. With the
assistance and persuasion of Lady Macbeth, Macbeth s ambitions to gain higher
power and become King of Scotland grow. In spite of this, his ambitions continue to

  • 2. Lucretia Ideal Roman Women Tharoon Balaji Roman TES s Dr. Thomas In this paragraph I argue that ideal Roman women preserved their honor by maintaining their household duties and being loyal. Lucretia s many qualities give the prize of this contest in womanly virtues to Lucretia (Rogers 117), indicating the ways in which model Roman women should act. Lucretia demonstrates basic household responsibilities, such as spinning wool (Rogers 117). Lucretia is seen as an ideal and honorable Roman woman. Producing wool fulfills a household duty and provides a characteristic of an ideal woman. Therefore, being an ideal woman is being an honorable woman. Acting as a courteous host is another responsibility and ideal for women. Tarquin was hospitably welcomed,
  • 3. The Work Of The Theorist Martin Heidegger This essay aims to analyze and discuss the work of the theorist Martin Heidegger in relation to usable web design and how people learn in a contemporary environment by interacting with tools, specifically those of online technology such as websites. It will look at Heidegger s thinking about human activity and the relationship between theory and practice, and will also examine websites that focus on allowing the user the best possible user experience through Heidegger s notions of ready to hand and co responsibility. In western philosophy, from Descartes to Plato, it is thought that we first need to know in theory how to do something and that everything can be explained with theories, even human activities. Human beings observe objects as conscious subjects, which would mean that a theoretical perspective is preferred to that of an involved and practical one (GarcГa PeГ±alvo, 2008, p.32). Heidegger believes that in order for one to gain better understanding of the world and our relationship to it, we need to do so through practical terms rather than theory first. This is because he thinks theoretical knowledge should not imply that one knows how to do something practically, but rather theoretical knowledge would depend on practical skills being gained first (GarcГa PeГ±alvo, 2008, p.32). This is not saying that Heidegger is against theory, theory is an important and powerful instrument if a limited one as it is only part of how human beings cope with things and we encounter

Kennedy s putting a man into space and developing a national space organization was national prestige (Compton). Russian had already taken leaps ahead of us in the exploration of space by the successful launch of the Sputnik satellite and the success of Yuri Gagarin being the first human to journey into outer space (Doran). Kennedy also fulfilled the role of a true leader by giving the county direction in the form of a difficult and worthy goal. Subsequently, the space race had begun and the entire county had become spectators. It was the marriage of government and scientist which eventually lead to the building of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration also known as NASA. Many of the developments
  • 5. The Last House On Wes Craven Research Paper Wes Craven was a writer, director, producer, and he was known for his innovative work on horror films that showed his creative imagination through his work. During his career, Craven won nine cinematic awards and received three nominations. His films, Scream, The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, and A Nightmare on Elm Street reinvented the horror genre today. His films didn t show ghosts or monsters, it showed the nightmare of real life violence. Throughout Wes Craven s career, he took the horror genre to new and unpredictable places. Craven s first film was The Last House on the Left in 1972 which he filmed and directed and only had the budget of $90,000. The Last House on the Left captured the mood of what was going on during... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His theme was that even the most civilized person can be capable of doing barbaric acts. Wes Craven went to dark places to make movies and mostly focused on the fear everybody has deep down inside. Craven based most of his horror films off of rage that was happening in his life. Last House on the Left was based on the rage of making his first movie, broke, and how no one knew of him. He wanted to see what would come out of a movie based on his feelings and about life at the moment or in his past. Craven s films set new waves for future filmmakers to strive for. He was able to combine the brutal and the thoughtful into his films and tried to get into his mind and heart. Craven made some of films confrontational about what is going on in society or his films show moments that grab you at the throat. He uses different methods to capture his audience to really scare them. For example, in the first twenty minutes of Scream is intense, scary, and bloody and he captures the audiences attention with the first scene of the movie and it refused to play by the rules. Craven made his films that were about the here and now, it wasn t about fantasy. He believed the scariest idea was what is close to home, what we know best and what we think we trust. The horror genre shows what we are not comfortable in and honestly shows what we are like as a society or as families.

Abstract The antimicrobial activity of alkaloids, tannins, saponins, flavonoids, phenol and cardic glycoside present in the various parts of Chrysophyllum albidium plant were investigated. These phytochemical were determined quantitatively and tested against staphylococcus aureus, B. subtilis, pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, C. tetani, and the fungus; candida albicans. Most the plant parts were found to contain alkaloids, tannins, phenols and flavonoids except for the absence of cardic glycosides in the root, tannins in leaves, and phenol in seed. A civil case is generally between two individuals but if tried and sent to court with a jury it could be deemed a criminal case against society. In chapter seven we learn of a group of teenage nursing aids that were charged with abuse of elders living in the home. I believe the nursing aids committed at least two intentional torts. The first of the intentional torts is assault and battery on the elders of the good Samaritan home. The teenagers were said to have verbally and physically abused elderly patients (book 7) . The second tort is the invasion of the elderly s privacy. There are four different ways one could invade someone s personal privacy and the one that
  • 8. Descriptive Essay On Gospel Music As I entered Chrysler Hall I instantly became nervous. Shamefully Mann s World Concert and Comedy Show will be the first live gospel performance I have ever attended. I didn t know what to expect. I m not as savvy in the gospel genre as I should be. The only songs that I have heard the Mann family perform were the songs they performed with Kirk Franklin and the Family and the popular ones that play on the radio. I glanced around the auditorium and it appeared to a full house. The audiencehad several nationalities ready to enjoy a night of gospel music. There was a deejay table off to the side entertaining the crowd as everyone arrived at their seats. The stage had band instruments towards the back of the stage with a deejay table in front of them. The lights were beautiful; they displayed various scenes and sceneries throughout the show. First to arrive on stage was David Mann Jr. He walked out and headed towards the deejay tables that were center stage. His energy and music selections pumped the crowd up and had everyone ready to party. The lights on the stage had a party appearance and holograms of a dancer. As the lights begin to flash a different color I anxiously waited for the next song to start. He played all the family reunion and cookout party hits such as The Emotions Best of My Love, Carl Carlton s She s a Bad Mama Jama, Cheryl Lynn s Got to be Real, Curtis Blow s These are the Breaks, Cameo s Candy, Maze and Frankie Beverly s Before I
  • 9. What Are The Destinies Of Those Who Is Habakkokkuk After the determination of God to destroy his enemies as mentioned in 1:6, it suddenly mentions about comfort to those who seek refuge in him in 1:7. Also, it says God cares for those who trust in him. Then in the next verse, the hymn moves back to the main theme of destruction. It shows a contrast of two destinies of those who take refuge of Godand those who oppose God. Why it appears at this location? The commentary refers this verse as parallel with Psalm 34:8; 100:5 and 135:3 (p.24). It suggests the absence of any names in the prophecy means that people (of Jerusalem or of Nineveh) have to decide whether they want to be people to whom verse 7 applies (care) or people to whom verse 8 applies (destruct) (p.25). I do not agree it is a choice for the people of Nineveh as in verse 8 it mentions about the unequivocal ending of Nineveh.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, after Habakkuk raises the question in 1:12 17, there seems to be a moment of silence in 2:1. Why? The commentary mentions that in some OT stories people apparently get an immediate response when they turn to Yahweh to ask something but in other people have to wait (p.65). The commentary suggests that it witnesses to the fact that Yahweh does respond but also the fact of Yahweh s freedom. I agree with the commentary that Habakkuk should not think up a response and assume it was Yahweh s. There is a difference between prophecy and theological reflection. Although there is no mention in the book, I am speculating whether Habakkuk confrontational attitude changes during that waiting period resulting in his submission to Yahweh and accepting worst situation in chapter
  • 10. Analysis Of The Green Eyed Monster Danella Lepore Dr. McGrady English 1202 8 April 2015 The Green Eyed Monster Shakespeare s Othello has many different reoccurring themes, particularly love, death and infidelity. One of the most obvious themes that drive a lot of the play is jealousy, stemming from the mischievous ways of Iago. His actions create a chain reaction of speculation, lying and most of all jealousy. Iago who plays a manipulative and dishonest character seems to bring out the worst traits of many of the characters within the play especially Othello. These reoccurring issues of manipulation and hatred begin early on in the play. It has been discovered that Othello and Desdemona have married, for everyone around these two, including friends and family this is a problem. This is especially an issue for Iago and Roderigo. Each of them seem to have there own reasons why these two should not be together, one for love of Desdemona and the other for hatred of Othello. They set up to break the newly weds apart by setting the stage with an accusation that Desdemona has cheated on Othello with Cassio, Othello s lieutenant. After these accusations are made the lives of all the characters seem to spiral out of control, the relationship that takes the biggest toll in the end seems to be Othello and Desdemona. It is clear to see that this green eyed monster in Shakespeare s words, has the power to control the psyche of the human, resulting in unthinkable acts from many of the characters involved. Jealousy

  • 13. Essay On Road Trip What would the United States be like without road trips? Road trips have been a vital part of the history of America. Road trips have helped Americans explore the vast lands that make up the US. These people take these trips for family vacations, solo vacations, business, to move to a new location, to escape. These trips help people gain a better understanding of people and different cultures within their own country. This question is posed in David Campany A Short History of the Long Road Is America imaginable without the roadtrip? (p.8) Without people exploring the land and having a desire to move and start new many towns and cities would not have been started. People like to explore and see new things that they may not have in their birthplaces. This sense of exploring is what drives the American road trip. To what extent is this true of the texts you have studied from this period? The period immediately after the Second World War saw numerous political and social changes within the world. Characterised by a growing sense of power and authority held by the American government, many began to see this as a threat or greatly detrimental. Beckett s Waiting for Godot (0000) reflects upon how this growing power, and an intense questioning of it, results in disillusionment and Ishiguro s An Artist of the Floating World (0000) is characterised by an intense questioning of the authority of a narrator and the older generation. The US government is vulnerable in the presence of Klaatu, as he threatens the authority they hold with nuclear advancement, as Klaatu s planet is further advanced in both weaponry and harmony. The person who stuttered was my high school science teacher and I vividly remember the first time people heard him speak. Kids would secretly tease him or interrupt him when he was speaking to speed up how long he was taking to make a point. Although I know it probably affected him a lot more when he was younger than it did then, I was still sensitive to his communication difficulties. My high school teacher is who I would consider a stuttering success story because of his accomplishments. He was always known to be very intelligent, but also he was popular at his undergraduate institution. He was so popular that he had won homecoming king and was a member of one of the prestigious African American fraternities. I m sure that he experienced what a lot of people who stutter don t have the chance to experience. However, I am still forced to reflect on what his experiences as a young child must have been like in a rural town where most kids didn t have an issue with

He believed in the one true God. One day, two of the king s other advisors watched as Daniel diligently prayed to God. [6]They hated Daniel. He was always praying to God for guidance and he was always honest. He wanted to do the right thing. The advisors despised him because of that. Then one day, as they watched Daniel pray, they came up with an evil idea. They would write up a document that would say that no one would be allowed to pray. [5]If they disobeyed this law they would be thrown into the Lion s Den like a piece of meat. [3]Suddenly, one day after the king had signed the document, they caught him defying the law and praying any way. They rushed into his room and dragged him to the king s throne room. [5] As he sat in the darkness untouched, he knew the advisors would come back in the morning to see if he had been killed, which was what they wanted to happen. The next morning Daniel saw streams of light peering thru the top of the entrance. [4]Hearing a noise above him, Daniel looked up. The king, who had worried about him all night, was prying the top off the cavern. Daniel, he shouted, are you alive? Did the God you believe and trust in protect you? Daniel answered him and told him that God had taken care of him and that he had sent an angel to close the mouths of the lions. Though sometimes bravery can also be a very foolish act, such as when you don t make the best decisions for everyone as a whole. Foolishness when making important decisions can comeback and cost you later, possibly causing loss of lives and changing the momentum of a battle. There are some cases in this book, The Killer Angels, that prove bravery can be a good thing and that it can make a huge difference. I think that bravery is a good characteristic for leaders to have especially when the leaders use their actions to set an example and inspire bravery among those soldiers who may be hesitant to fight. There are multiple examples, throughout this book, of bravery and how courage has changed the outcome of a battle or prevented disaster. In the beginning of this book, Sorrel the spy who is hired by General Longstreet, to spy on the Union spots the enemy troops less than 200 miles from their camp. He hurries back to warn General Robert E. Lee that their army must move to prevent complete disaster and the destruction of the Confederate Army. He travels through the night in the enemies territory to get this urgent news to General Lee. This was a brave act on Sorrel part as he was traveling at night and he traveled across enemy lines through the Picket Line which are the people that guard a armies cap to make sure they are not attack by surprise.

Deborah Stone examines two policy making models to describe the paradox s of the process model for public policy. The two models include: the market (rational model) and the Polis (community) model. Stone states she contrasts these two models to illuminate some ways the market model distorts political life. Stone notes most actions in the market model do not have social consequences but in the polis, commons problems are everything. It is rare in the polis that the costs and benefits of an action are entirely self contained, affect only one or two individuals, or are limited to direct and immediate effects. Actions in the polis have unanticipated consequences, side effects, long term effects, and effect many people. Stone states, one major dilemma in the polis is how to get people to give weight to these broader consequences in their private calculus of choices, especially in an era when the dominant culture celebrates private consumption and personal gain. To achieve these goals, several technical problems had to be tackled including design of experiments, extensive sample analysis, data acquisition and deep data interpretation. To be specific, the innovative contributions of this work include the following: (i) Novel implementation of GO/PLL LbL or GO/PLL H FO membrane surface modification coating for biofouling mitigation. The exclusive modification grafting chemistry utilized in this work presented stable and durable membrane surface modification techniques. (ii) The new and successful application of the single step in situ deposition of DA to immobilize the GO nanosheets onto the membrane surface was achieved. Applying GO nanosheets with the proper concentration rendered them tightly bound to the membrane surface without aggregations. This optimum modification also improved the membrane surface morphology, smoothness, hydrophilicity and antibacterial properties, resulting in improved desalination performance and better biofouling resistance. This simple and stable surface modification has great potential in the improvement of FO membranes. Black Metropolis Analysis The terms Bronzeville and Black Metropolis can be used interchangeably to signify the interdependence between the two as an emblematic space for blacks that attempted to construct a sustainable all black utopia in Chicago. The Black Metropolis began as a black community instituted from forced segregation that eventually cultivated the imagined neighborhood of Bronzeville, where black Chicagoans asserted their collective agency to legitimize their racefor complete integration. The geographic imaginary of Bronzeville relied heavily on a unified [all black] community, but intr racial antipathies stemming from cultural and socioeconomic class differences undermined true racial solidarity leaving a neighborhood and faction of the black population dispossessed.... Therefore, the dream of racial harmony justified his criticisms of the racial homogenous communities filled with working class ethnic whites on the Southwest side closed to blacks. By challenging the discriminatory housing practices that limited entry to these neighborhoods, King would end the slums by securing access for all blacks. However, King s dream of racial integration was the antithesis of the Black Metropolis because the geographic imaginary of Bronzeville relied heavily on racial

The Hofstede Model of Cultural Dimensions can be a great use when it comes to analyzing cultures. Hofstede basically treats all Malaysian cultures equally. However, as based on the Hofstede Model of Cultural Dimensions, to compare both the Malaysian Malay and Indian cultures, both of these cultures actually falls under the high context culture. High context communication involves emotions and close relationships while low context interactions use the logical part of the brain and are less personal. Sunstein s Yes, Money Can Make You Happy, Sunstein provides a summary and review of Elizabeth Dunn and Michael Norton s Happy Money: The Science of Happier Spending; he declares that money, when spent wisely and with the right attitude, can provide the most elusive of all human experiences: happiness. In a changing social climate with advances in technology offering unmatched convenience, and a culture in which diverse people with equally diverse sets of values come together, the study of what truly makes us happy is especially relevant now more than ever. While money can certainly be spent in a manner which will create happiness, what Sunstein neglects to address in his writing is that more money does not always equate to more happiness, regardless of how and when it is spent. In Sunstein s first argument, he asserts that an experience, such as a vacation, provides a lasting memory which can be reflected upon for years to come; whereas a purchase, such as a new car, evokes a temporary happiness to which we become desensitized very quickly. Secondly, he contends that using money to create special treats, combined with a third argument of delaying gratification, will create an anticipation of the future that allows us to be happier in the present. Further, Sunstein insists that spending money to buy time used to spend with friends a family will enhance our abilities to be happier; lastly, that the act of spending

In recent light, we have all seen first hand, culture, heritage and local economy disintegrate as money spinning big businesses pillage and invade our family and community areas. Gobbling up small businesses and breaking local links, taking away pride and pleasure from our lives, but enough is enough. I will prevent this operation in turning us from people into puppets by the one fits all attitude of global business, that has been allowed to infect Leicester, unnecessarily, because the current council sheepishly cannot see past the bags of money being stuffed into their pockets. The true value of this city and its people is being depreciated by these acts of selfishness, greed and ignorance. No more, will I allow it to happen and no more will you have to stand for it. It is the biggest scandal Leicester has seen and it is happening right now. Land is being sold, neglected land, that was never given a chance. The council sells it cheap, to anyone who can afford it, making it anyone else s problem but their own, turning away from their own responsibilities, conveniently making money in the process. The global giants come swarming in like vultures snapping up easy business expanses, whilst local economy suffers and green spaces vanish. I say, how about provide more parks, more cycle paths and walkways?

The paper aims to expand knowledge on the issue of female offending by examining some of the different trajectories through which female offending occurs. In particular, the paper examines the female offending from the perspective of two discrete female offending groups; persistent offenders and late onset offenders. Persistent offenders, otherwise known as chronic offenders, are those who offend early in life and fail to age out of the crime while late on set offenders are those women who begin offending later in life. Criminological Theories The criminological theories that are being examined within the study are state dependent and population heterogeneity theories. Heterogeneity theories state that there is usually an early proneness for individuals to commit crime and that this vulnerability and difference in the early development of an individual persists over time. On the other hand, state dependent theories are to the effect that the events and actions that occur in the course of someone s life influences the probability of subsequent actions and events. The researchers adopt the population heterogeneity perspective which states that crime results from the persistent antisocial tendencies that are developed early in life (Gunnison, McCartan, 2010). • 56. The Use Of Supernatural In Macbeth In the tragedy Macbeth, Shakespeare s use of the supernatural to develop themes relating to human emotion is evident. A large portion of the play is based around the supernatural s role of pre ordaining Macbeth s fate, and his free will to believe in such predictions. Supernatural occurrences, such as the appearance of Banquo s ghost in particular, personify Macbeths guilt and conscience. Supernatural beings, such as the three witches, appear throughout the play as recurring symbols for the themes of Macbeth. In addition to these symbols and appearances, the characters of Macbeth themselves make references to and call on the supernatural, to the point of taking on characteristics of evil and supernatural.
