Oedipus Essays
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Oedipus Essays" can be quite challenging, requiring a delicate
balance of literary analysis, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the complexities within
the narrative. The Oedipus story, whether approached from a psychological, philosophical, or
literary perspective, demands a nuanced exploration of themes, character motivations, and the
intricate interplay of fate and free will.
One of the primary difficulties lies in deciphering the layers of symbolism and metaphor
embedded in the Oedipus narrative. Unraveling the psychological dimensions, such as Freudian
interpretations of the Oedipus complex, adds another layer of complexity to the essay. Writers
often find themselves navigating through the labyrinth of Oedipus's character development,
contemplating the tragic consequences of his actions and the inevitable collision between destiny
and human agency.
Furthermore, delving into the historical and cultural context of the play, understanding the
conventions of Greek tragedy, and analyzing the impact of Oedipus Rex on subsequent literary
works can be intellectually demanding. The essay must go beyond mere plot summary and
explore the timeless themes that resonate across different periods and cultures.
Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates a unique perspective on Oedipus's
character or the overarching themes of the play is another challenge. The essay should avoid
clichГ©s and offer fresh insights, contributing to the ongoing scholarly conversation surrounding
this classic work.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Oedipus Essays" requires not only a profound understanding
of the play but also a skillful application of literary analysis and critical thinking. It's a task that
demands dedication, thoughtful engagement with the material, and a commitment to presenting
a unique perspective. For those seeking assistance or inspiration in navigating these challenges,
resources like HelpWriting.net offer a range of essays on various topics, providing valuable
insights and support in the essay writing process.

Action Assignment 1: Post your analysis of the Norris article and the textbook
chapters to the Moodle discussion forum LEADERSHIP (Cultivating Leadership
Skills).
1. After reading the journal article by Norris, succinctly explain value and impact of
the article.
The article by Norris is a very valuable piece of literature. It brings today s leaders
up to speed on the importance of people skills, the impact it has on their work and
organizational cultures as well as how the leaders can be able to improve, or rather
what they need to be observant and concerned about pertaining to how they interact
with their followers. After analyzing this article, a leader realizes the pieces to put

Also, they have a negative effect on morale of employees leading to poor
performance. The impact of this article is that it nurtures the leaders understanding of
concepts associated with people skills, enhancing their relationships with their
subordinates/followers, improving the culture in an organization; leading to
productivity, cost saving, efficiency and increment in revenue. Upon reading this
paper, leaders get a results driven people skills model that helps them eliminate
potential biases, increase social intelligence and improve interpersonal skills (Norris,
2009).
Over 50% of leaders and managers fail. There are many factors leading to these
failures, with poor working relationships and communication failures being
considered significant contributors (Ivey, 1995; Vugt, Hogan, Kaiser, 2008). Duffy
and Ferrier attribute delegation and procedural justice to positive outcomes in
employees and abusive supervision and monitoring to negative outcomes in
employee performance. According to them, to achieve the former and eliminate the
later, leaders need to strive to create a culture that is fair, ethical and equitable in
order for employees to be respectful and have improved attitudes (Duffy and Ferrier,
2003). This article highlights how leaders can achieve all these. Therefore, another
impact of the article is that it helps leaders and managers to reduce

Shakira, The Singer Essay
There are many famous people around the world, and some of them are the singers.
The singers are very important for the people thanks to their music. One of the
persons that most people like because of her own style of music is the Latin girl
Shakira. Thanks to all the things she did as a child, and to all the things she is going
to do, she has become a star that we, the people who know her, love.
Shakira has done a lot of things since she was a child to become the famous person
she is now. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia on February second, 1977. At the
age of 8, she wrote her first song, and by 13 she signed a record deal with Sony
Music in Colombia, which resulted in her first album, Magia (Magic). She wrote all
the songs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thanks to this album, she gained international fame since her two first albums were
just sold in Colombia. Later, after a year, she released her fourth album, The
Remixes, which include some songs from Pies Descalzos in remix style. On 1998,
she began to work with the Cuban producer, Emilio Estefan. While working with
him, she recorded another album called ВїDonde Estan Los Ladrones? (Where Are
the Thieves?) Because of this album, she was called the Latin Queen of Rock and
Pop. Later on 2000, she recorded the Unplugged Album which was a mix of songs
(sung in a mini live concert) from ВїDonde estan Los Ladrones? and Pies Descalzos
And this is all the work she has done to become a star.
Shakira has planned to do many things for the future. Right now, she is taking a
break, but her next logical step is crossover the English Market (www.geocities.com
/ donde_ esta_ shakira/Menu/index.html). The singer Gloria Estefan, Emilio s wife,
is helping Shakira to translate some of her best songs to the English language. She
is planning to take over the American people, and I know that she will because of
her great talent and own style. Another plan she has, according to the people who
knows her, is to get married. Since the day she got a boyfriend, all the people is
talking about it, but nobody is sure of what she is going to do.
Shakira is a person that many people love because of her music and her

National
In the Nature episode we were introduced to Yosemite National park, located in the
heart of California s Sierra Nevada mountains stretching the distance of California.
The Sierra Nevada is known for its harsh climates, beautiful landscape, and the
incredible Yosemite valley. In this nature episode we saw how global warming is
affecting the Sierra Nevadaecosystem due to the devastating drought in California.
The episode starts with hang gliders setting their gliders up, and gliding above the
valley this is a form of kinetic energyafter they have built potential energy up
running down the little cliff and gliding releasing energy. When gliding over the
valley the glider can see many waterfalls and rivers carved out in the valley. One of...

To make matters worse California is in the middle of a devastating drought,
causing many forest fires. But these trees remain unfazed, as a matter of fact fire is
an innate part of this ecosystems, many animals depend on fires for survival like
the black backed woodpecker who their main source of food are tree inhabiting
beetles. When the bark is chard this helps the woodpecker find its food easier.
Unlike a lot of other trees sequoias need fire to reproduce. The fire also does 3
things for the sequoias: it heats up and opens the cones releasing seeds, second, the
fire makes and opening in the canopy of the trees to allow sunlight to shine
through, and finally, the fire gives the sequoias seeds a nutrient rich place to grow
(Yosemite, 2017). When winter comes around the ice pack covers the seeds
allowing the seeds to be in the right condition to start the process of germination. In
the episode they talk to a forest ecologist that works for the U.S geological survey,
his job is to monitor the trees response to the drought and in recent years by
recording the water content in the clippings they have found that the water content is
decreasing. Which is a warning sign that the tree might be dying or under stress from
the drought. When a sequoia is healthy is clippings are green and have a higher water
content, but since the water content is decreasing that the amount of water to keep

Immigrants As A Better Life For Their Future
All people are diverse and come from many backgrounds. Most people settled here in
America as an immigrant to start a better life for their future generations and for
opportunities. Most people came here with nothing but bringing along their cultures,
knowledge, beliefs and behaviors which they can be shared amongst others in groups
and society. In society, starting with the earlier generation there was always shared
culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest status. They
are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of
their backgrounds or their parent s background statuses were very much similar
whether they wantto admit it or not. It s how they hold themselves in society. People
are divided into different classes and treated differently. Most immigrants have to
settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle, whether they like it or not, they ll have
to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making new friends. Adapting to
lifestyle, the choice of food and to how they communicate. It is always harder for
immigrants to unite with everyone since people are so strict against immigrants; they
judge them as outcasts by what they eat, what they wear and especially how one
communicates. High culture/elites think they are higher ranking so therefore there is
always miscommunication. They think they are way better and wouldn t want except
one another because of status or flaws. In the reading Mother
Passivity and Impotence in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Passivity and Impotence in Frankenstein
There are many ways to interpret a literary text, especially one as laden with ethical
questions and literary allegory as Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. Shelley s complex
family dynamic her conflicted relationship with her father, her need to please her
mentor/husband with literary success, her infants deaths enhances the intrigue of the
novel and suggests multiple themes and layered meanings. One discernible theme in
Frankenstein is illuminated by the bold line that separates male character from
female: The men inevitably fail the women whom they claim to love, but the women
are maddeningly passive, seemingly blind to the men s inadequacies. Here, however,
this passivity is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Elizabeth s lack of force and tepid presence in the book Victor s descriptions of her
generous nature notwithstanding mirror Victor s weaknesses. His follies are the meat
of Frankenstein, and though his initial failure to study the right books can be blamed
on Alfonse, the rest of the book s mayhem lays squarely on his shoulders.
Victor glorifies his own childhood and his parents responsibility for his happiness
when he describes it, With this deep consciousness of what they owed towards the
being to which they had given life...I received a lesson of patience, of charity, and of
self control... (33).
Unfortunately, he absorbs none of their parental talent or compassion. When Victor
creates the hideous Monster, he abandons the Monster and essentially abandons the
world on which the Monster is unleashed. Victor s failure as a father to the Monster
is the second link in the chain of death swung by the Monster at William, Clerval,
Elizabeth, and by default, Justine.
Like Alfonse, Victor excels at female worship but falls a step beyond Alfonse s well
meaning ineptitude into a deep crag of impotence. Throughout the novel, Victor

Reasons Against Legalizing Marijuana
Marijuana should be legalized in order to reduce petty crimes. It is a new way to
make money for the people who are unemployed and is struggling. Officers won t
have to worry about arresting a kid or finding someone with a loaf and having to go
through an unnecessary questioning and being occupied with something as petty as
drugs when women and children are out there getting raped. Main reasons why the
government is so against legalizing recreational marijuana is that they believe it
causes harm to the brain, cause disruptive and aggressive behavior, and that it doesn
t really have any medical benefits. Marijuana can be used for certain sickness but it
has to be taken properly in the right proportion. Proponents of medical marijuana

History And Effect Of The Gold Rush

significant event in the history. In this project, I will introduce what is the major
effects of the Gold Rush in the California. And how did that change the people,
economic, political and environmental effects. The Gold Rush is a rapid movement
of people to a newly discovered Goldfield. Gold rush was arguably one of the most
significant events to build American history during the first half of the 19th century.
Thousands of gold miners traveled by the sea and over the land of San Francisco and
the surrounding area. In January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold along
the American River. By the time, the fountain of... Show more content on

Most of these were white men who came from New England. However, Native
Americans, free blacks, and enslaved African Americans also worked the mines.
Thousands of experienced miners came from Sonora in Mexico. Other foreign
miners came from Europe, South America, Australia, and China. Most of the
Chinese miners were peasant farmers who fled from a region that had suffered
several crop failures. By the end of 1851, one of every 10 immigrants was the
Chinese who used to backbreaking labor in their homeland, the Chinese proved to
be patient miners. They would take over sites that American miners had abandoned
because the easy gold was gone. Tough steady, hard work, the Chinese made these
played out sites yield profits. American miners resented the success of the Chinese
and were suspicious of their different foods, dress, and customs. As the numbers of
Chinese miners grew, American anger toward them also increased. A mixture of
greed, anger caused some miners to cheat others. One the easy to find gold was
gone, American miners began to force Native Americans and foreigners such as
Mexicans and Chinese out of the gold fields to reduce competition. This practice
increased after California became a state in 1850. Also the consequences of the gold
miners made government make new legislation. One of the first acts of the
California state legislature was to pass the foreign miners Tax, which imposed a tax
of 20 bucks in a month on miners from other countries. That was
Case 6-3 Eli Lilly in India
CASE 6 3 Eli Lilly in India: Rethinking the Joint Venture Strategy
1. I think Eli Lilly pursued the right strategy joining Ranbaxy Laboratories to enter
the Indian market. While companies were using the global market to amortize the
huge investments required to produce a new drug, they were hesitant to invest in
countries where the intellectual property regime was weak. During the 1990s both
companies had a strong reason for the joint venture. Ranbaxy wanted to make its
presence globally and Lilly wanted to get their feet on Indian grounds. In 1992,
Ranbaxy approached Lilly to investigate the possibility of supplying certain active
ingredients or sourcing of intermediate products to Lilly in order to provide low cost
sources of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, by 1995, Lilly had moved up to become one of the leading
pharmaceutical supplier in the world, sixth in the U.S. market, 17th in Europe and
77th in Japan. Much of Lilly s sales success through the mid 1990s came from its
antidepressant drug, Prozac. But with the wonder drug due to go off patent in 2001,
Lilly was aggressively working on a number of high potential products. By the
beginning of 2001, Lilly was doing business in 151 countries, with its international
sales playing a significant role in the company s success. Another important
achievement was accomplished in the early 2001. Both companies had grown up and
the venture was recording an excellent growth rate, surpassing the average growth
rate in the Indian pharmaceutical industry. Eli Lilly Ranbaxy had already become the
46th largest pharmaceutical company in India out of 10,000 companies. Several of the
multinational subsidiaries, which were started at the same time as ELR, had either
closed down or were in serious trouble. Finally, in addition to its joint venture with
Lilly, Ranbaxy made three other manufacturing/marketing investments in developed
markets such as a joint venture with Genpharm in Canada, the acquisitions of Ohm
Labs (USA) and Rima Pharmaceuticals (Ireland). With its investment in the joint
venture, Ranbaxy was expecting a reasonable return and not only the
Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants ( Uwtps ) Essay
Abstract:
Visakhapatnam city has two Urban Wastewater Treatment Plants (UWTPs) in the
city, located at 1 town and Mudasarlova (Arilova) village, Andhra Pradesh, India.
These plants are planned and built with an intend to oversee wastewater in order to
minimize and/or expel organic matter, solids, nutrients, disease causing organisms,
pollutants and different toxins, before it re enters a water body. The concentrations
were assessed from two sewage treatment units; the largest STP situated at 1 Town
with handling capacity of 38 MLD took after by Arilova STP of 13MLD capacity.
It was uncovered from the execution, examine that effectiveness of the two
treatment plants was poor concerning expulsion of total dissolved solids as rather

Aggregate Demand And Supply Essay examples
AGGREGATE DEMAND AND SUPPLY
AGGREGATE DEMAND:
Aggregate demand is the amount which will be spent at different values of the price
level. It is composed of consumption (C), investment (I), government spending (6) and
net exports (X M).
THE AGGREGATE DEMAND CURVE:
The aggregate demand curve shows the quantity of goods and services which
households, firms, overseas buyers and government are prepared to buy at different
values of the general price level. It is drawn on the assumption that other things (e.g.
the money supply, rates of taxation, the marginal propensity to consume) remain
unchanged. Figure 28. I shows an aggregate demand curve.
WHY THE ADCURVE SLOPES DOWN FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:
There are three main reasons why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Figure 28.2 shows an extension in aggregate demand. If the general price level falls
people s purchasing power will increase, the transactions demand for money will fall
causing a reduction in interest rates and domestic goods and services will become
more price competitive. ____________________________________________
THE SHAPE OF THE AGGREGATE DEMAND CURVE:
One group of economists, Keynesians, believe the aggregate demand curve is steep.
This is because they think that a rise in the general price level will have only a small
impact on the rate of interest and this in turn will have only a small impact on
consumption and investment. They argue that the demand for money is dominated
by the speculative rnotive. This is interest elastic so that an increase in demand for
money will cause only a small rise in the rate of interest. In their view the main
influence on both consumption and investment is income and not the rate of interest.
The implication of the aggregate demand curve being steep is that a change in the
general price level will not significantly alter aggregate demand.
In contrast new classical economists believe the aggregate demand curve is shallow,
they think the main component of the demand for money is the transactions
demand. This is interest inelastic so if a rise in the general price level leads to an
increase in demand for money there may be a large rise in the rate of interest.
Middle English To Early Modern English During The
Renaissance
Early Modern English started during the Renaissance, between 1500 and 1800, with
the first edition of the King James Bible and the works of William Shakespeare. At
this point, Elizabeth I came to the throne of England with a religious revolt,
positioning her nation as Protestant. As a consequence, some of the literature during
her reign reflected the tension, being the purpose of most of the works didactic.
During the Renaissance, it appeared the printing press and started the voyages of
exploration, making the language at that time a mixture of different languages, with
borrowed words from other idioms, such as Latin, French or German. With the
invention of printing, books became cheaper, and thus, literacy became more
common. This helped language to standardise its spelling and wordmeaning, with the
London dialect as the standard, as most of the books were printed there.
The transition from Middle English to Early Modern English was due to the
appearance of a more standardised language, with differences in vocabulary, lexicon,
pronunciation and a new literature. The extract given belongs to the play Doctor
Faustus by Christopher Marlowe in 1594, an Elizabethan tragedy based on a
German legend about Faust. The aim of the play is moral, teaching people religion
and entertaining them at the same time. Marlowe is a contemporary of William
Shakespeare, being one of the most famous English poets and playwrights of that
time. During the Early Modern English period, a large

FBI s former Chief of the organized crime section. The FBI does not see a

are seeing that those states with strong regulations and enforcement are not
experiencing an influx of organized crime activity.
Obviously, a cash heavy, multi billion dollar industry that is exempt from corporate

there is very little mafia involvement with Indian gaming. For
Bodhisattva Research Paper
The Iconography of Bodhisattva
Buddhism is equally a philosophy and a religion that consists of a variety of
traditions, beliefs and practices based on the Buddha s life and teachings.
Iconographic representations have depicted the life and teachings of Buddha that
simply could not have been put into words. Buddhism followers heavily rely on the
iconography of their divine figures in rituals. Artistic representations can be seen in
temples and monasteries all over the world. However, the Bodhisattva specifically is
seen prominently in Mahayana Buddhism. The Bodhisattva is a phase of the
Buddha before his enlightenment. He is known as a figure who is able to reach
nirvana but delays doing so out of compassion, in order to save suffering beings. ...

However, certain colours are favoured over others because they never vanish. The
colour gold is depicted in Buddhist iconography because it represents the
unchangeable doctrinal attributes of the Bodhisattva. (FIG 1 2). The Bodhisattva is
able to transfer its merit to those who petition for help, so he can lead followers to
rebirth in the pure land. The nature of gold suitably represents the immutability and
genuineness of the Buddha s nature. And most importantly, Honen promises that
devotees who create a golden image of the Amida will receive an enduring merit for
their eventual salvation (Kanda). Due to the follower s salvation, the Bodhisattvas
can transfer their superior merit to those who appeal to them for help. Only
immutable figures can do so because they are in the process of attaining Buddhahood.
Worshippers idolize the Bodhisattvas for merit but as well as for rebirth in the pure
land also known as the fields or realms where the Bodhisattva reside in. Hence, the
colour of gold is thought to be associated with divine figures who are in the process
of attaining Buddhahood and therefore are unchangeable. Unlike humans and other
gods who are not on the path to Nirvana because they are mutable, are displayed in
vivid and vibrant colours. It plays a crucial role in ritual due to the goal of the
Buddhists wanting to be granted rebirth in the vicinity of the

Some of the people s characteristics, opinions, and even the plots from two different

Origin of Yoga
The practice of Yoga dates back to thousands of years ago and is believed to have
been introduced to the world by a person who was known as Adiyogi. Adiyogi,
more famously know as Lord Shiva himself, was first seen in upper parts of the
Himalayas, where he was seen in a mystic self transcendence. Seeing him in this
state seven seekers sought to be his disciples and learn the practice of Yoga that
would lead them to this transcendence too. Adiyogi accepted these seven people as
his disciples and became the first guru ever known to mankind, Aadi Guru. The seven
discliples learned and practiced Yoga from the Aadi Guru and then set to travel to
different parts of the world to impart their learning.

things, regardless of the ethical issues of invading a human being s privacy. They
know people will buy it and that they will make money.
I think that to be an ethical journalist it is important to empathize with the person
whose life is about to be splashed on the papers. Of course there is the matter of
getting the story and pleasing the readers and the editor, but it should take into
account the public s real right to know. A story about the health of someone like the
President of the United States might be something worth printing, because knowing
how he is medically is of public interest because this is a man that is running the
country.

Nicotine And Epigenetic Analysis
In this article, nicotine is utilized to figure out whether it causes emotional distress,
for example, anxiety and depression. These emotional symptoms might be brought
about because of epigenetic mechanisms or alterations, for example, histone
acetylation. Nicotine is a profoundly addictive part of tobacco. The chronic utilization
of nicotine is believed to increment emotional side effects such as anxiety and
depression. Anxiety and depression is seen in dependent smokers as withdrawal
indications. Epigeneticsis the study of alteration of gene expression which causes
changes in an organism. Mechanisms can be methylation, histoneacetylation and
alteration in microRNAs. Studies recommend that epigenetic changes, for example,

The selective CB1 agonist AC, similar to histone deacetylase inhibitors, gave
anxiolytic and antidepressant like impacts against these behavioral adjustments,

Feminist View On Feminism
Feminist theory is an important aspect in looking at different phenomena outside of
the male lens. It both relevant and crucial in sociology and other disciplines as well.
I identify as a feminist, specifically a liberal feminist. This is mainstream feminism,
with the belief in intrinsic equality of the sexes. Betty Friedan best explains, the
problem that has no name . The genderrelations, the issues that we face, and sexism
doesn t really have a name. I try to understand issues from both the lens of a male
and a female, which is why I particularly have problems with certain theories in
criminology. For example, in Hirshi s social control theory, he focuses on the
conformity of law abiding people, and because women appear to be more
conformist than men, it would make sense to treat women as central to his analysis.
However, he mostly ignored women in his theorizing and his sample was largely
male. I have never heard of Charlotte Perkins Gilman, which I am unimpressed with
because it shows the large ratio of the celebration of women writers in sociologyto
male sociologists. In the section The Dependence of Women from Women and
Economics (1898), Gilman explains that the partnership of a husband and wife is a
not a business partnership. Women seem to earn all they get, and more, by house
service (Gilman, 1898, p. 151). Women s labor in the home allows men to produce
their wealth outside the home. However, a woman s labour in the home is a
functional duty, not

Essay On To What Extent Was The Economy From 1951 To
1964...
To what extent was the period between 1951 1964 a Golden Age for the economy?
During this time, the Conservative government was said to have pursued mainly
Keynesian economic policies, which centrally focused on reducing inflation. Their
aims were to maintain growth, stability and a Keynesian system. However, some
techniques used caused a rise in unemployment and higher interest rates. Therefore in
terms of whether it was a Golden Age for the economy; it depends on whose view the
opinion is coming from.
After WW2, Britain s domestic life was in upheaval and most people wanted peace
and to return to normal, the war also brought on an urge to broaden Britain s wealth.

Britain had become one the world s most profitable countries with spending increased
by 20% during this period even though the economic growth remained at just 3%.
In the views of the politicians, the economy was not one of a Golden Age . As the
British Cabinet Paper wrote, It is clear that ever since the end of the war we have
tried to do too much...we have only rarely been free from danger of economic crisis
. This illustrates the fact that although the economy was not falling apart, it was not
stable and not prosperous. There was also a lack of a plan to deal with the economy;
the government merely adjusted the system as it went along, which sometimes
resulted in high rises of inflation or sudden consumer booms that did not correlate
with its ability to pay for them causing a deficit.
Both parties (when in opposition) criticized the other of using the annual budgets as a
mechanism to win votes in elections, and not improving the failing economy. For
example, Heathcoat Amory s 1959 budget included a range of tax cuts to boost
support; this was in a time when high inflation suggested financial restraint would
have been a better strategy. This resulted in higher consumer spending that led to a
rise in inflation, and because of this the economy was unstable.
In comparison with other competitive countries, Britain s economy was also lagging
behind. One aspect was that Britain s GDP growth rate was the lowest in Western
The Use Of Igbo Culture In Chinua Achebe s Things Fall
Apart
In 1958, Chinua Achebe wrote his first novel, Things Fall Apart. It centers around
Okonkwo, a powerful clan leader man that lives in the village of Igbo people,
Umuofia. The story follows him and the rest of his village as they are colonized by
white Christians. Achebe wrote the novel to teach people about the Igbo culture and
break stereotypes made about indigenous Africans. Chinua Achebeused literary
devices such as similes, proverbs, and folktales to help illustrate Igbo culture.
The similes used in Things Fall Apart can give the reader insights into the Igbo
culture. Achebe s similes tend to be nature related. For example, in chapter one,
Okonkwo is described as as slippery as water. This simile is used to describe

Proverbs are short sayings giving advice or stating facts One proverb, used to
teach children about responsibility, is, As elders said, if a child washed his hands,
he could eat with kings. (p7) This is especially relevant to Okonkwo. His father
was very irresponsible and lazy, and was always poor; he never got to eat with
kings. Okonkwo wanted to be the opposite of his father, so he did everything he
could to get a high status. These proverbs are used to communicate important traits
and values that are important to the Igbo people.
As well as similes and proverbs, folktales, stories that are passed down by word of
mouth through generations. are used to show the Igbo culture to readers. OneA
folktale Achebe used is about a quarrel between the Earth and Sun. In this, the Sun
withheld rain for years, and the Earth dried up. No crops could grow and many
were dying, so a vulture begs the Sky for rain. The sky pities the vulture and brings
lots of rain. It was used to show men that need to be humble and ask for help.
In Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe works to show the readers what the Igbo culture
is like to sharpen the contrast between them and the colonists. To do this, he uses
similes, proverbs, and folktales. These are bases around nature, hunting, and other
important aspects of Igbo culture. They also show the values of the Igbo
Change in Law Enforcement Agencies Essay
1. Identify and discuss the eight (8) recurring reasons that change occurs in law
enforcement agencies.
There are many recurring reasons that changes occurs in law enforcement agencies.
The book outlines 8 reasons that change occurs. The 8 reasons are as follow:
1. A single catastrophic event, often followed by civil liability litigation, leads to the
chief of police being replaced (Swanson, 2012, pg. 650). This forces changes
because it addresses a single incident and forces change. A good example of this
would be the failure to adequately respond to an incident. This can be seen when an
incident unarmed person is killed by the police. This can be a result of inadequate
training or a trigger happy force. None the less the reason, the ... Show more content

651). This can lead to negative results on the reports and force change amongst the
department and force out the police chief. These reports can be used intentionally and
with the purpose to rid an unsuccessful chief.
5. A new sheriff is elected and implements the changes that were part of the platform
on which he or she ran (Swanson, 2012, pg. 651). This can be based on promises or
commitments made by the sheriff in order to gain respect and support from the
electing community. With the promises to a desired action by the sheriff comes
change within the agency in order to comply with such promises.
6. A sheriff decided to remove his legal advertising from the town s daily newspaper
and run it in the towns small, weekly newspaper after the daily newspaper wrote
some critical editorials about the way the sheriff was running the department
(Swanson, 2012, pg. 651). This is happens when sheriffs decides to stray away from
big organizations and use smaller ones. This can cause a problem because the bigger
organizations that typically fund campaigns and without the funds, the sheriff takes
the chance of losing a campaign to a more organized and funded candidate.
7. The chief s conduct or style becomes an issue that leads to his or her dismissal.
(Swanson, 2012, pg. 651). I have personally seen this happen to well defined
The Security Of Information Security
This document is only a brief synopsis of the ever expanding and demanding field of
information security. It contains explanations, screenshots or visual cues, and tips on
multiple subjects such as system defenses, reducing vulnerabilities, and the presence
of malicious threats. Smaller areas, such as vulnerability assessment and penetration
testing, are also covered because they are very significant in the securityof
information. While vulnerability assessment is a necessity, penetration testing is
purely an option to the security engineer.
What is Information Security ?
Information security is often defined as the security or assurance of information and
it requires the ability to maintain the authenticity of the information. The three
common components of information security are confidentiality, integrity, and
availability and they form an essential base for the overall picture of information
security. Confidentiality is perhaps one of the most common aspects of information
security because any information that is withheld from the public within the
intentions to only allow access to authorized individuals is confidential. Encryption is
often used to maintain the confidentiality of information as encryption is one of
multiple methods of access control and Microsoft BitLocker is an example of access
control encryption feature. Although TrueCrypt is no longer a secure method of
protecting data, I will discuss it further in the

Why Clean Gutters Are Important
The job of gutters is more than just keeping the water of your head when you walk

Psychotherapy s effectiveness is based on the cathartic or abreactive method used,
where the patient releases psychological tension by re experiencing traumatic
events. Although anxiety can be produced by repressed sexual drives, it can also
be produced by many other repressed emotions like anger, jealousy, and fear. When
these repressed emotions try to reach the conscious, anxiety appears from the
unconscious fears related to the traumatic experience. Then, these affects, emotions
associated with ideas or actions, are re repressed by secondary defenses. Using this
idea, Freud described and explained many dynamic processes involved in anxiety
disorders. For instance, displacement would be a secondary defense in phobias,
while reversal and reaction formation would be secondary defenses in obsessive
compulsive disorder (Wolman Stricker, 1994).
However, Freud had to revise his theory after empirical evidence demonstrated that
abreaction of affects only relieve the symptoms temporally. In his second model,
Freud said that anxiety was a signal for the anticipation of danger that produces
defense mechanisms. In a way, anxiety expresses the level of conflict in the
unconscious. For this reason, abreaction represents only a partial treatment because it
does not resolve the cognitive element of anxiety. Anxiety would be permanent
reduced changing the unconscious anticipation of danger. Nevertheless, cognitive
elements of anxiety are not just based on innate needs and

Cocky versus Swagger in Beowulf and Sir Gowain Essay
Cocky vs. Swagger
In entertainment, no matter if it is movies, music, or plays. One can almost always
look in the story line and find a hero. The hero is perceived to be the character that
everyone looks to step forward in a time of need. The hero can be like a savior and is
expected to be like a savior by the other characters in the story in any and every
situation. There is also a case in stories where the hero has to be found and is more of
the unsung type of character within a story in which that character has to learn how
to adjust to the advantages and disadvantages of their heroism and how it may affect
the other characters in the story. Beowulf and Sir Gowain posses these types of

Heroes are heroes because they show exceptional amounts of courage, and they do
it consistently on the everyday basis. That is not possible to do. The extraordinary
things that Beowulf and Sir Gowain do are things that the average man would not
do because of the lack of courage and confidence. That is why heroes are who they
are, the best of the best. They stick out from the crowd and that is why one may
feel like they deserve more than just the regular confidence that the average man
gets, it is only necessary. Being a hero is more of a mental challenge than anything
else, because one has to believe in oneself more than any other person can believe
in them because whoever believes in the hero can not possibly know and
understand just exactly what the hero is going through. The other characters will
never know and understand why the hero faces the problems, defeats the
problems, and overcomes the obstacles that the hero faces. All that the characters
and the people want in the stories is for whom ever the hero is, they want that
person to save them from the people or things that threaten them. In other words,
the people do no care so much about what the hero is going through, the people just
want the hero to deliver, so it is an absolute must for the hero s confidence to be
above the average person. This also applies for real life experiences for this day and
age. The only difference is this is real life, and
Names In The Renaissance
The Renaissance, a time period painted over like a great canvas with the names of
legendary artists. People in the modern world know mostly the great names like
Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael, etc. These names have become
ingrained in culture, so much so that the names have taken on a new persona of four
animated turtles. But like any time period these names barely scratch the surface of a
cornerstone in the history of art. Beginning in the 13th century, known as the Early
Renaissance, the focus of art started to shift from a heavenly perspective down to a
more human perspective. Sciences grew, knowledge of the human body expanded,
and in turn this helped shape artistic trends like they were clay on a potter s wheel.

What is Zika
The Zika is a extremely rare disease. it is a flavivirus transmitted by mosquitos, the

any country basic sanitation is an essential factor for preventing diseases and
improving the quality of life of a population. In cities with low income and without

virus has a high level of causing an epidemic in these cities . This is why
governments should make people aware and do everything to eliminate the

should help as well. They could clean up areas where mosquitoes might live in, and

The Standards Of Society In The House Of The Spirits By...
It is often said that we are shaped by our environments; we all interact with our
surroundings in some form or another, and we are further influenced by and interact
with the society we live in. In fiction, characters interact the same way within their
fictional societies and social positions, as characters reflect how actual people relate
to their world. In the novel The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, there exist
many societal norms and standards that influence the characters and their actions in
different ways. This essay focuses on these standards and how they relate to the
character of FГ©rula Trueba, and her position in the society she lives in. Allende s
novel The House of the Spirits takes place in the religious and patriarchal society of
20th Century Chile, where the character FГ©rula embraces religious austerity and
internalizes her role as caretaker, resulting in embitterment and repression of her
feelings.
The setting of the novel begins in the early 20th century, in the Capital, where both
the del Valle familyand the Trueba family reside. The Capital is inferred to be in the
country of Chile. Many of the standards of the society are first shown through the del
Valle family and the central character, Esteban Trueba. It is clear that this society
emphasizes reputation and morality, and that it is deeply religious; Severo del Valle
is atheist, but both him and his family attend Catholic Mass because he could not
allow himself the luxury of missing the
Essay Parole Should Be Abolished
Parole Should Be Abolished
The procedure known as parole in the criminal justice system has been in practice
in the United States since the late 1800 s when it was begun in a reformatory in
Elmira, New York. It s process provides for early conditional release from prison for
convicted felons, after part of their prison sentence has been served, and they are
found to be eligible for parole based on factors such as: conduct while incarcerated,
rehabilitative efforts/progress, type of offense, and remorse for their crime. Its use
has been expanded to many states, and today has become the primary way by which
offenders are released from prisons and correctional institutions. Unfortunately, parole
is not always rewarded to worthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, most parolees I worked with were not in touch with new
technology, lacked communication skills, and had no money to travel to and from
interviews, nor proper clothing. They quickly relapsed into old habits such as drug
trafficking, stealing, and burglary to survive their need for money, food, and other
amenities. It is obvious that hardships such as these make parolees repeat offenders.
They end up back in prison to complete the remainder of their sentence, and
sometimes serve out new sentences for new crimes committed. The parole board
does not sufficiently scrutinize the job readiness of the inmates they plan to release,
and things such as verbal and writing skills are ignored. An inmate can not be
expected to survive as a parolee if he is not prepared to market himself for
employment.
If there is no job, there is no money, and if there is no money desperation sets in
and makes room for crime such as robbing, burglary, and drug trafficking. This is
not to say that all inmates are unqualified to be released because of poor job
readiness, but other inmates who are job ready lack responsibility and sane
judgement because of poor rehabilitation programs short in duration, or not
available. Screening is also poor because parole boards have not come up with a
better way to verify the sincerity of the inmate when he goes before the panel. For
example: there are plenty of inmates that have gone through the parole system before
Rhetorical Analysis Of Donald Trump s Political Cartoon
All people make mistakes, but some people are never allowed to forget theirs. A
man attacked, harassed, and belittled by media outlets with a personal vendetta
against him for his prior claims that they broadcast fake news. This is the image of
Donald J. Trump portrayed by my political cartoon for part two of my genre remix.
Based off of my project two analysis of the effectiveness of Donald Trumps rhetoric
in his 2016 Phoenix campaign speech based on Lloyd Bitzer s model of the
rhetorical situation, my political cartoon focuses on the same man, but an entirely
new exigence and audience, with a new load of constraints.
Before it can be analyzed effectively, the political cartoon must be described. The
cartoon itself is rather simple. Donald ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The number one constraint present in the actual creation of this project is my own
artistic abilities. I am not an artist, I do not and cannot draw. Clearly, this can make
creating a political cartoon difficult. When I first tried to free draw Donald Trump,
what I created more resembled an angry bean with a face and Donald Trump hair.
My solution, which was to trace an online image, posed yet another constraint. When
one googles cartoon images of Donald Trump, most of what pulls up is disrespectful
and borderline grotesque. Despite what people may say or feel, Donald Trump is still
our president and deserves respect as such. Another constraint came not from the
creation of the remix, but from the very genre of the remix itself. Political cartoons,
though rather simple, do require some degree of thought to understand. If someone
was to simply glance at the cartoon and not think about it, they might miss the
message behind it. Similarly, political cartoons are often up to personal interpretation
and someone might interpret the message the wrong
Hypothyroidism Case Study
Conversion of Autoimmune Hypothyroidism to Hyperthyroidism
Tiffany Rae Trevino
Pathophysiology
Summer 2015
June 29, 2015
Case Study:
Conversion of Autoimmune Hypothyroidism to Hyperthyroidism
In our bodies, the thyroid is responsible for producing the hormones calcitonin, T3
(triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine), more commonly and generally called thyroid
hormones. Without adequate thyroid function, the body either overproduces or
underproduces the hormones required to maintain the body s metabolism, including
but not limited to energy levels and weight maintenance. When problems with thyroid
function occur, other hormone producing glands, such as the pituitary gland, also
begin having functional problems, and eventually will lead to other serious issues.
Hypothyroidism refers to the under production/under activity of thyroid hormones
and is usually associated with goiter and Hashimoto s thyroiditis, whereas
hyperthyroidism (thyrotoxicosis) refers to the over production/over activity of thyroid
hormones and is commonly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually, if a conversion in thyroidism occurs, it is the opposite of what s occurring
here: hyperthyroidism converts to hypothyroidism. In all three cases, the patients
are middle aged, female, Asian, and all presented with common symptoms of
primary clinical hypothyroidism. The first patient was 36 years old, and had
symptoms of constipation, cold intolerance, polymenorrhagia, and weight gain over
the course of three months. The second patient was 46 years old, and also had
weight gain, as well as an increased desire to sleep. The third patient, at 43 years old
and obese, felt lethargic, and had TSH levels higher than normal just like the other
two. All three patients were easily fatigued, and were on Thyroxine hormone
How Is Higgins Presented In The Taming Of The Shrew
Can two characters from different stories be the same? The play The Taming of
the Shrew by William Shakespeare is about a guy name Petruchio who at first is
only interested in a girl named Katherine for her money. Petruchio then has to tame
Katherine as she is a shrew. In the play Pygmalion written by Bernard Shaw is
about a poor flower girl named Eliza Doolittle who wants to learn proper English.
Colonel Pickering makes a bet with Mr. Higgins saying that he cannot teach her
proper English and will take her to the ball and see if she passes as a lady. These
two characters are basically the same. Some people may not think these two
characters are the same because Higgins does not travel anywhere to find someone
just for money like Petruchio does. Higgins is familiar to teaching people but

The first way Petruchio ends up taming Katherine is he shows up very late to their
wedding and poorly dressed. The way Petruchio is dressed is a pair of boots that
have been used as candle cases, coming in a new hat and an old jacket.
(Shakespeare 109) By showing up late and poorly dressed he is showing her that
he is the boss and that he will get married when he wants to. Another way Petruchio
ends up taming her is by not letting her eat and by not letting her get any sleep And
in conclusion, she ll stay awake all night and if she nods, I ll yell and make lots of
noise and keep her awake with the clamor. (Shakespeare 141) Petruchio offers
Katherine new clothes because of Bianca s reception but Petruchio does not let her
get them because he pretends something is wrong with them. We can conclude that
Katherine has been tamed because there is a wager for whos ever wife comes first
wins 100 gold pieces. Katherine was the first one to come so Petruchio ended up
winning the bet. The way Higgins ends up taming Eliza is by making her proper and
not talk back. Higgins has help with
Racism And Its Subsequent Civil Liberty
The esteemed author Mark Twain offered commentary on a hypothetical society
which had unwittingly brought upon its own demise, when he said, But it was
impossible to save the Great Republic. She was rotten to the heart. Lust of
conquest had long ago done its work; trampling upon the helpless abroad had
taught her, by a natural process, to endure with apathy the like at home; multitudes
who had applauded the crushing of other people s liberties, lived to suffer for their
mistake in their own persons . A common theme of the animated television show
Futurama is the concept of multiculturalism and its subsequent civil liberty.
Futurama is set in the year 3000 and follows the adventures of a pizza delivery boy
who wakes up in the time period after being accidentally cryogenically frozen in the
year 2000. In the world today, relationships between countries and people are
becoming increasingly interconnected and this brings rise to new challenges, as a
result of this, the concept of civil liberty is important. While the world in the time of
Futurama is generally seen as more socially advanced, it still faces some of the same
issues and mistakes that modern society deals with such as social prejudice, national
pride, and foreign intervention. An apathetic attitude when faced with certain issues
can bring unfavorable consequences. Social prejudice is an innate defect in human
society and is a form of control that governs behavior. In Futurama, the largest
minority group is
Racketeer Influence And Corrupt Organization (RICO)
The Bureau uses the Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organization (RICO) Act to
expand criminal accountability for a number of predicate offenses, and to expand a
single offense across multiple members of a criminal enterprise. Unlike typical
investigations, which target a single criminal act, this multi pronged approach allows
the FBI to disrupt or dismantle the entire enterprise. The project was called Central
Research Monographs and produced extensive analyses of Communist Party
ideological statements designed to track the party s changing policies and better
inform agents working to recruit party members. Studies of groups like the Ku Klux
Klan, the LCN, the Black Panthers and others were similarly aimed at ensuring up to
date knowledge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The framework for this analysis is straightforward. The FBI must define the
information security environment it wants to create by identifying information
policies, specific threats, and secure usage assumptions. The Bureau must assess
threats that existing security countermeasures do not counter and information
security policies that are not being enforced. The FBI can then select programs, tools,
and technologies to sustain its security environment (Fox,

Employee Safety
Employee Safety
Joshua Ogles
Mount Olive College
Abstract
Operational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) is very important to employee safety
and the safety of the companies involved. This paper talks about a few examples of
how OSHA operates and how they interact with employees and the companies that
they work for. There are many standards of OSHA that can be confusing or be
misinterpreted and are a big impact on everyone involved. Every employee should
be proactive and participate in the safety procedures and prevention of injuries and
loss of life.
What is employee safety?
Employee safety Employee safety is described in many ways by different companies,
organizations and of course, the Occupational Safety and Health Act ... Show more

Another way for companies to essentially hurt themselves would be to just label
their PRCS with signs. This is not a very reliable method because signs can fade
when out in the elements or even in doors over long periods of time. Posted signs
are a great way to mark these PRCSs and are encouraged to be used but they should
not be the sole identifier. If a sign is used to identify a PRCS then it should read
Danger, not Caution. Confined space recognition. There are many confined spaces
that are missed or could just imply be mislabeled. The only real way to find and
label each PRCS is to walk through the entire work site and find all of the spaces
that meet the definition. Ask yourself three questions that can help you determine
what is, in fact, a confined space: 1. Is the space large enough and so configured
that the smallest employee can get his/her body into it and still have wiggle room to
perform the task? 2. Does the space in question have entry openings so small that
entrants are unable to walk through upright and unimpeded? Or, must they bend over,
step up, turn sideways or otherwise contort the body to enter or exit? 3. Is the space
not intended or designed for continuous occupancy?
Any space meeting these simple requirements would be
Music Is A Magical Piece Of History
Music is a magical piece of history, and has changed throughout history with the
changing of generations. As culture changes music changes as well. Artists have
found a way to use music, art, and fashion throughout history as a way to convey
feelings of love, sadness, frustration, and death. Musicians find a way to move their
listeners with the sounds they hear. With every rise and fall of a note and change in
melody or tempo, listeners find themselves holding their breath or possibly wiping
away tears.
Aaron Copland is a man who has truly done just that. His love for music started when
he was very young when his sister taught him how to play piano (Encyclopedia).
From that point on, his thirst and passion for music grew. At the age when most boys
are outside playing, getting dirty Copland decided he would become a composer.
Attending Boy s High School he began to study music (Encyclopedia). In 1921,
Copland moved to France to further study music at the American Conservatory in
Fontainebleau. It is there he would experience the different style of European music.
Schoenberg and Stravinsky had always inspired him, and his stay in Paris gave him
the opportunity to enhance his love and understanding of their music.
When Copland returned to America he wrote his first major piece of music named
simply the Symphony for Organ and Orchestra. This was just the beginning of
Copland s early writings. He wanted to experiment with music in his compositions.
Copland began to blend music

  • 1. Oedipus Essays Crafting an essay on the topic of "Oedipus Essays" can be quite challenging, requiring a delicate balance of literary analysis, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of the complexities within the narrative. The Oedipus story, whether approached from a psychological, philosophical, or literary perspective, demands a nuanced exploration of themes, character motivations, and the intricate interplay of fate and free will. One of the primary difficulties lies in deciphering the layers of symbolism and metaphor embedded in the Oedipus narrative. Unraveling the psychological dimensions, such as Freudian interpretations of the Oedipus complex, adds another layer of complexity to the essay. Writers often find themselves navigating through the labyrinth of Oedipus's character development, contemplating the tragic consequences of his actions and the inevitable collision between destiny and human agency. Furthermore, delving into the historical and cultural context of the play, understanding the conventions of Greek tragedy, and analyzing the impact of Oedipus Rex on subsequent literary works can be intellectually demanding. The essay must go beyond mere plot summary and explore the timeless themes that resonate across different periods and cultures. Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates a unique perspective on Oedipus's character or the overarching themes of the play is another challenge. The essay should avoid clichГ©s and offer fresh insights, contributing to the ongoing scholarly conversation surrounding this classic work. In conclusion, writing an essay on "Oedipus Essays" requires not only a profound understanding of the play but also a skillful application of literary analysis and critical thinking. It's a task that demands dedication, thoughtful engagement with the material, and a commitment to presenting a unique perspective. For those seeking assistance or inspiration in navigating these challenges, resources like HelpWriting.net offer a range of essays on various topics, providing valuable insights and support in the essay writing process. Over 50% of leaders and managers fail. There are many factors leading to these failures, with poor working relationships and communication failures being considered significant contributors (Ivey, 1995; Vugt, Hogan, Kaiser, 2008). Duffy and Ferrier attribute delegation and procedural justice to positive outcomes in employees and abusive supervision and monitoring to negative outcomes in employee performance. According to them, to achieve the former and eliminate the later, leaders need to strive to create a culture that is fair, ethical and equitable in order for employees to be respectful and have improved attitudes (Duffy and Ferrier, 2003). This article highlights how leaders can achieve all these. Therefore, another impact of the article is that it helps leaders and managers to reduce

One of the persons that most people like because of her own style of music is the Latin girl Shakira. Thanks to all the things she did as a child, and to all the things she is going to do, she has become a star that we, the people who know her, love. But these trees remain unfazed, as a matter of fact fire is an innate part of this ecosystems, many animals depend on fires for survival like the black backed woodpecker who their main source of food are tree inhabiting beetles. When the bark is chard this helps the woodpecker find its food easier. Unlike a lot of other trees sequoias need fire to reproduce. The fire also does 3 things for the sequoias: it heats up and opens the cones releasing seeds, second, the fire makes and opening in the canopy of the trees to allow sunlight to shine through, and finally, the fire gives the sequoias seeds a nutrient rich place to grow (Yosemite, 2017). When winter comes around the ice pack covers the seeds allowing the seeds to be in the right condition to start the process of germination. In the episode they talk to a forest ecologist that works for the U.S geological survey, his job is to monitor the trees response to the drought and in recent years by recording the water content in the clippings they have found that the water content is decreasing. Which is a warning sign that the tree might be dying or under stress from the drought. Most people settled here in America as an immigrant to start a better life for their future generations and for opportunities. Most people came here with nothing but bringing along their cultures, knowledge, beliefs and behaviors which they can be shared amongst others in groups and society. In society, starting with the earlier generation there was always shared culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest status. They are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of their backgrounds or their parent s background statuses were very much similar whether they wantto admit it or not. It s how they hold themselves in society. People are divided into different classes and treated differently. Most immigrants have to settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle, whether they like it or not, they ll have to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making new friends. Adapting to lifestyle, the choice of food and to how they communicate. It is always harder for immigrants to unite with everyone since people are so strict against immigrants; they judge them as outcasts by what they eat, what they wear and especially how one communicates. High culture/elites think they are higher ranking so therefore there is always miscommunication. They think they are way better and wouldn t want except one another because of status or flaws. Passivity and Impotence in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Passivity and Impotence in Frankenstein There are many ways to interpret a literary text, especially one as laden with ethical questions and literary allegory as Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. Shelley s complex family dynamic her conflicted relationship with her father, her need to please her mentor/husband with literary success, her infants deaths enhances the intrigue of the novel and suggests multiple themes and layered meanings. One discernible theme in Frankenstein is illuminated by the bold line that separates male character from female: The men inevitably fail the women whom they claim to love, but the women are maddeningly passive, seemingly blind to the men s inadequacies. Here, however, this passivity is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though weak, she has enough intelligence to realize which choice will serve her better. Like Alfonse, Victor excels at female worship but falls a step beyond Alfonse s well meaning ineptitude into a deep crag of impotence. Throughout the novel, Victor speaks of Elizabeth in

Officers won t have to worry about arresting a kid or finding someone with a loaf and having to go through an unnecessary questioning and being occupied with something as petty as drugs when women and children are out there getting raped. Main reasons why the government is so against legalizing recreational marijuana is that they believe it causes harm to the brain, cause disruptive and aggressive behavior, and that it doesn t really have any medical benefits. In this project, I will introduce what is the major effects of the Gold Rush in the California. And how did that change the people, economic, political and environmental effects. The Gold Rush is a rapid movement of people to a newly discovered Goldfield. Gold rush was arguably one of the most significant events to build American history during the first half of the 19th century. Thousands of gold miners traveled by the sea and over the land of San Francisco and the surrounding area. In January 1848, James Wilson Marshall discovered gold along the American River. However, Native Americans, free blacks, and enslaved African Americans also worked the mines. Thousands of experienced miners came from Sonora in Mexico. Other foreign miners came from Europe, South America, Australia, and China. Most of the Chinese miners were peasant farmers who fled from a region that had suffered several crop failures. By the end of 1851, one of every 10 immigrants was the Chinese who used to backbreaking labor in their homeland, the Chinese proved to be patient miners. They would take over sites that American miners had abandoned because the easy gold was gone. Tough steady, hard work, the Chinese made these played out sites yield profits. American miners resented the success of the Chinese and were suspicious of their different foods, dress, and customs. As the numbers of Chinese miners grew, American anger toward them also increased. A mixture of greed, anger caused some miners to cheat others. One the easy to find gold was gone, American miners began to force Native Americans and foreigners such as Mexicans and Chinese out of the gold fields to reduce competition. This practice increased after California became a state in 1850. Also the consequences of the gold miners made government make new legislation. I think Eli Lilly pursued the right strategy joining Ranbaxy Laboratories to enter the Indian market. While companies were using the global market to amortize the huge investments required to produce a new drug, they were hesitant to invest in countries where the intellectual property regime was weak. During the 1990s both companies had a strong reason for the joint venture. Ranbaxy wanted to make its presence globally and Lilly wanted to get their feet on Indian grounds. In 1992, Ranbaxy approached Lilly to investigate the possibility of supplying certain active ingredients or sourcing of intermediate products to Lilly in order to provide low cost sources of ... Much of Lilly s sales success through the mid 1990s came from its antidepressant drug, Prozac. But with the wonder drug due to go off patent in 2001, Lilly was aggressively working on a number of high potential products. By the beginning of 2001, Lilly was doing business in 151 countries, with its international sales playing a significant role in the company s success. Another important achievement was accomplished in the early 2001. Both companies had grown up and the venture was recording an excellent growth rate, surpassing the average growth rate in the Indian pharmaceutical industry. Eli Lilly Ranbaxy had already become the 46th largest pharmaceutical company in India out of 10,000 companies. Several of the multinational subsidiaries, which were started at the same time as ELR, had either closed down or were in serious trouble. Finally, in addition to its joint venture with Lilly, Ranbaxy made three other manufacturing/marketing investments in developed markets such as a joint venture with Genpharm in Canada, the acquisitions of Ohm Labs (USA) and Rima Pharmaceuticals (Ireland). With its investment in the joint venture, Ranbaxy was expecting a reasonable return and not only the

It is composed of consumption (C), investment (I), government spending (6) and net exports (X M). THE AGGREGATE DEMAND CURVE: The aggregate demand curve shows the quantity of goods and services which households, firms, overseas buyers and government are prepared to buy at different values of the general price level. It is drawn on the assumption that other things (e.g. the money supply, rates of taxation, the marginal propensity to consume) remain unchanged. Figure 28. I shows an aggregate demand curve. If the general price level falls people s purchasing power will increase, the transactions demand for money will fall causing a reduction in interest rates and domestic goods and services will become more price competitive. ____________________________________________ THE SHAPE OF THE AGGREGATE DEMAND CURVE: One group of economists, Keynesians, believe the aggregate demand curve is steep. This is because they think that a rise in the general price level will have only a small impact on the rate of interest and this in turn will have only a small impact on consumption and investment. They argue that the demand for money is dominated by the speculative rnotive. This is interest elastic so that an increase in demand for money will cause only a small rise in the rate of interest. In their view the main influence on both consumption and investment is income and not the rate of interest. The implication of the aggregate demand curve being steep is that a change in the general price level will not significantly alter aggregate demand. In contrast new classical economists believe the aggregate demand curve is shallow, they think the main component of the demand for money is the transactions demand. This is interest inelastic so if a rise in the general price level leads to an increase in demand for money there may be a large rise in the rate of interest.
  • 13. Middle English To Early Modern English During The Renaissance Early Modern English started during the Renaissance, between 1500 and 1800, with the first edition of the King James Bible and the works of William Shakespeare. At this point, Elizabeth I came to the throne of England with a religious revolt, positioning her nation as Protestant. As a consequence, some of the literature during her reign reflected the tension, being the purpose of most of the works didactic. During the Renaissance, it appeared the printing press and started the voyages of exploration, making the language at that time a mixture of different languages, with borrowed words from other idioms, such as Latin, French or German. With the invention of printing, books became cheaper, and thus, literacy became more common. This helped language to standardise its spelling and wordmeaning, with the London dialect as the standard, as most of the books were printed there. The transition from Middle English to Early Modern English was due to the appearance of a more standardised language, with differences in vocabulary, lexicon, pronunciation and a new literature. The extract given belongs to the play Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe in 1594, an Elizabethan tragedy based on a German legend about Faust. The aim of the play is moral, teaching people religion and entertaining them at the same time. He said, In my 19 years here, I don t know that I ve heard more irresponsible testimony... Miller was irritated that Trump suggested that he had additional knowledge of the extent of organized crime beyond what the FBI, the IRS, the Treasury, and others have suggested (during the same hearing). In addition, Miller responded, You don t know this; you suspect this perhaps... Trump s accusations were in complete opposition to all of the credible authorities at that hearing. In fact, that same hearing featured written testimony from Jim Moody, the FBI s former Chief of the organized crime section. The FBI does not see a coordinated, concerted effort by organized crime families to raid the Indian gambling industry, wrote Moody. As legalized gaming spreads throughout the United States, we are seeing that those states with strong regulations and enforcement are not experiencing an influx of organized crime activity. Obviously, a cash heavy, multi billion dollar industry that is exempt from corporate federal taxes, such as the Indian casino industry, certainly has great potential for corruption. However, there aren t many documented cases of actual mafia involvement. It s the kind of issue that makes for juicy rumors, but there isn t much evidence to back it up. As time has passed, federal authorities have concluded that there is very little mafia involvement with Indian gaming. For

Buddhism followers heavily rely on the iconography of their divine figures in rituals. Artistic representations can be seen in temples and monasteries all over the world. However, certain colours are favoured over others because they never vanish. The colour gold is depicted in Buddhist iconography because it represents the unchangeable doctrinal attributes of the Bodhisattva. (FIG 1 2). The Bodhisattva is able to transfer its merit to those who petition for help, so he can lead followers to rebirth in the pure land. The nature of gold suitably represents the immutability and genuineness of the Buddha s nature. And most importantly, Honen promises that devotees who create a golden image of the Amida will receive an enduring merit for their eventual salvation (Kanda). Due to the follower s salvation, the Bodhisattvas can transfer their superior merit to those who appeal to them for help. Only immutable figures can do so because they are in the process of attaining Buddhahood. Worshippers idolize the Bodhisattvas for merit but as well as for rebirth in the pure land also known as the fields or realms where the Bodhisattva reside in. The genderrelations, the issues that we face, and sexism doesn t really have a name. I try to understand issues from both the lens of a male and a female, which is why I particularly have problems with certain theories in criminology. For example, in Hirshi s social control theory, he focuses on the conformity of law abiding people, and because women appear to be more conformist than men, it would make sense to treat women as central to his analysis. However, he mostly ignored women in his theorizing and his sample was largely male. I have never heard of Charlotte Perkins Gilman, which I am unimpressed with because it shows the large ratio of the celebration of women writers in sociologyto male sociologists. In the section The Dependence of Women from Women and Economics (1898), Gilman explains that the partnership of a husband and wife is a not a business partnership. This illustrates the fact that although the economy was not falling apart, it was not stable and not prosperous. There was also a lack of a plan to deal with the economy; the government merely adjusted the system as it went along, which sometimes resulted in high rises of inflation or sudden consumer booms that did not correlate with its ability to pay for them causing a deficit. Both parties (when in opposition) criticized the other of using the annual budgets as a mechanism to win votes in elections, and not improving the failing economy. Psychotherapy s effectiveness is based on the cathartic or abreactive method used, where the patient releases psychological tension by re experiencing traumatic events. Although anxiety can be produced by repressed sexual drives, it can also be produced by many other repressed emotions like anger, jealousy, and fear. When these repressed emotions try to reach the conscious, anxiety appears from the unconscious fears related to the traumatic experience. Then, these affects, emotions associated with ideas or actions, are re repressed by secondary defenses. Using this idea, Freud described and explained many dynamic processes involved in anxiety disorders. For instance, displacement would be a secondary defense in phobias, while reversal and reaction formation would be secondary defenses in obsessive compulsive disorder (Wolman Stricker, 1994). However, Freud had to revise his theory after empirical evidence demonstrated that abreaction of affects only relieve the symptoms temporally. In his second model, Freud said that anxiety was a signal for the anticipation of danger that produces defense mechanisms. In a way, anxiety expresses the level of conflict in the unconscious. For this reason, abreaction represents only a partial treatment because it does not resolve the cognitive element of anxiety. Anxiety would be permanent reduced changing the unconscious anticipation of danger. Nevertheless, cognitive elements of anxiety are not just based on innate needs and

In many ways, I too have benefitted from the labors of other man. But now wish to play my part in the above transformation. Even though my work may be inconsequential in nature if it can help at least one other person other than myself I would be immensely delighted. To achieve the above objective I, choose Computer Science as my major as an undergraduate student at Florida Institute of Technology. Throughout my career as an undergraduate student I too have continuously challenged what I could do in my field and now. And now as I have ended my undergraduate studies, it is my central goal to continue my education in a more challenging and competitive environment. It is to serve the above purpose that I wish to apply to the Computer Science department at prestigious university to pursue a Master s degree in Computer Science. Throughout my former career as an undergraduate student at Florida Institute of Technology namely with Prof. Marius Silaghi and Prof. Philip Chen in the areas of Network Security and Data mining respectively. Through the above research opportunities, I could have a glimpse on what was happening in the respective fields. Under Prof. Chen I worked on a predictive model that estimates
  • 32. Cocky versus Swagger in Beowulf and Sir Gowain Essay Cocky vs. Swagger In entertainment, no matter if it is movies, music, or plays. One can almost always look in the story line and find a hero. The hero is perceived to be the character that everyone looks to step forward in a time of need. The hero can be like a savior and is expected to be like a savior by the other characters in the story in any and every situation. There is also a case in stories where the hero has to be found and is more of the unsung type of character within a story in which that character has to learn how to adjust to the advantages and disadvantages of their heroism and how it may affect the other characters in the story. Beowulf and Sir Gowain posses these types of characteristics and by actually reading the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heroes are heroes because they show exceptional amounts of courage, and they do it consistently on the everyday basis. That is not possible to do. The extraordinary things that Beowulf and Sir Gowain do are things that the average man would not do because of the lack of courage and confidence. That is why heroes are who they are, the best of the best. They stick out from the crowd and that is why one may feel like they deserve more than just the regular confidence that the average man gets, it is only necessary. Being a hero is more of a mental challenge than anything else, because one has to believe in oneself more than any other person can believe in them because whoever believes in the hero can not possibly know and understand just exactly what the hero is going through. The other characters will never know and understand why the hero faces the problems, defeats the problems, and overcomes the obstacles that the hero faces. All that the characters and the people want in the stories is for whom ever the hero is, they want that person to save them from the people or things that threaten them. In other words, the people do no care so much about what the hero is going through, the people just want the hero to deliver, so it is an absolute must for the hero s confidence to be above the average person. This also applies for real life experiences for this day and age. The only difference is this is real life, and

It is often said that we are shaped by our environments; we all interact with our surroundings in some form or another, and we are further influenced by and interact with the society we live in. In fiction, characters interact the same way within their fictional societies and social positions, as characters reflect how actual people relate to their world. In the novel The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, there exist many societal norms and standards that influence the characters and their actions in different ways. This essay focuses on these standards and how they relate to the character of FГ©rula Trueba, and her position in the society she lives in. Allende s novel The House of the Spirits takes place in the religious and patriarchal society of 20th Century Chile, where the character FГ©rula embraces religious austerity and internalizes her role as caretaker, resulting in embitterment and repression of her feelings. The setting of the novel begins in the early 20th century, in the Capital, where both the del Valle familyand the Trueba family reside. The Capital is inferred to be in the country of Chile. Many of the standards of the society are first shown through the del Valle family and the central character, Esteban Trueba. They quickly relapsed into old habits such as drug trafficking, stealing, and burglary to survive their need for money, food, and other amenities. It is obvious that hardships such as these make parolees repeat offenders. They end up back in prison to complete the remainder of their sentence, and sometimes serve out new sentences for new crimes committed. The parole board does not sufficiently scrutinize the job readiness of the inmates they plan to release, and things such as verbal and writing skills are ignored. An inmate can not be expected to survive as a parolee if he is not prepared to market himself for employment. If there is no job, there is no money, and if there is no money desperation sets in and makes room for crime such as robbing, burglary, and drug trafficking. This is not to say that all inmates are unqualified to be released because of poor job readiness, but other inmates who are job ready lack responsibility and sane judgement because of poor rehabilitation programs short in duration, or not available. Screening is also poor because parole boards have not come up with a better way to verify the sincerity of the inmate when he goes before the panel. For example: there are plenty of inmates that have gone through the parole system before

My solution, which was to trace an online image, posed yet another constraint. When one googles cartoon images of Donald Trump, most of what pulls up is disrespectful and borderline grotesque. Despite what people may say or feel, Donald Trump is still our president and deserves respect as such. Another constraint came not from the creation of the remix, but from the very genre of the remix itself. Political cartoons, though rather simple, do require some degree of thought to understand. Racism And Its Subsequent Civil Liberty The esteemed author Mark Twain offered commentary on a hypothetical society which had unwittingly brought upon its own demise, when he said, But it was impossible to save the Great Republic. Lust of conquest had long ago done its work; trampling upon the helpless abroad had taught her, by a natural process, to endure with apathy the like at home; multitudes who had applauded the crushing of other people s liberties, lived to suffer for their mistake in their own persons . Futurama is set in the year 3000 and follows the adventures of a pizza delivery boy who wakes up in the time period after being accidentally cryogenically frozen in the year 2000. Artists have found a way to use music, art, and fashion throughout history as a way to convey feelings of love, sadness, frustration, and death. Musicians find a way to move their listeners with the sounds they hear. With every rise and fall of a note and change in melody or tempo, listeners find themselves holding their breath or possibly wiping away tears. Aaron Copland is a man who has truly done just that. His love for music started when he was very young when his sister taught him how to play piano (Encyclopedia). From that point on, his thirst and passion for music grew. At the age when most boys are outside playing, getting dirty Copland decided he would become a composer. Attending Boy s High School he began to study music (Encyclopedia). In 1921, Copland moved to France to further study music at the American Conservatory in Fontainebleau. It is there he would experience the different style of European music. Schoenberg and Stravinsky had always inspired him, and his stay in Paris gave him the opportunity to enhance his love and understanding of their music. When Copland returned to America he wrote his first major piece of music named simply the Symphony for Organ and Orchestra. This was just the beginning of Copland s early writings. He wanted to experiment with music in his compositions. Copland began to blend music
