Information for Students: You may have two (2) attempts for this assessment.
โ€ข If your first attempt is not successful, your teacher will discuss your results with you and will arrange a
second attempt.
โ€ข If your second attempt is not successful, you will be required to re-enrol in this unit.
Only one re-assessment attempt will be granted for each assessment item.
Time Allowed: 4 hours
Materials Provided by Assessor: All materials and tools required to complete the task will be provided.
Materials and Equipment to be Supplied by the Student: Personal protective equipment PPE and nail bag.
Assessment Range and Conditions: Assessment will be conducted in simulated work environment CIT
Bruce under teacher supervision at all times. if at any stage the assessors deem the assessment to be
unsafe it will be stopped. Access to all resources, manual and standards is permitted. All mobile phones
are to be switch off.
Assessment Criteria: To achieve a Satisfactory result, your assessor will be looking for your ability to
demonstrate the key skills/tasks/knowledge detailed in the Assessment Task to industry standard.
The criteria that you will be assessed for this task are:

INSTRUCTIONS:
You are required to construct a โ€œOCTAGONAL ENDโ€™ Pitched Roof.
Using the plans provided, you are required to:
1. Complete the JSA and Toolbox talk for this Practical Assessment
Class participation activity on Ready Skills. Your trainer will form an
open discussion to assist with completing both the JSA & Toolbox talk activities.
2. Select all hand & power tools required for this Practical Assessment
Class participation activity with Toolbox Talk. Your trainer will form an
open discussion to assist with completing this activity.
3. Select all materials required for this Practical Assessment
Class participation activity with Toolbox Talk. Your trainer will form an
open discussion to assist with completing this activity.
4. Complete all calculations required for measuring, marking & cutting roof framing
members
Students will need a pencil, eraser & a scientific calculator.
Your trainer will supply worksheets for all roof member calculations.
Students are required to successfully complete all calculations and
to write these dimensions on the attached rafter drawings.
5. Construct both Major & Minor roofs
In teams of 2, students are to construct the OCTAGONAL END Pitched Roof.
Using 70 x 35 mgp10 pine. Students are to set-out, measure & cut 1 pattern
Common Rafter & 1 pattern Hip Rafter. Once your trainer has inspected &
confirmed these rafters, you may then proceed to setting out the roof frame member
locations and constructing your OCTAGONAL END pitched roof.
6. Take photographs of completed Practical Assessment activity & upload to drop-box
Use your phone and the ready skills app, take a few photographs of the completed Roof
and a photograph of your completed calculations sheet.
These are to be submittedintoreadyskills.
7. Dismantle, de-nail roof frame & return all tools to store.
Roof model to be SAFELY de-constructed, ALL fixings removed.
Any re-usable timber lengths are to be stowed in racks.
All small timber pieces placed in scrap bins and work area cleaned.
All tools are to be returned to the store.
You MUST report any tool defects or damage to your trainer.

โ€ข Creeper and valley rafters are cut to meet drawings and calculations
โ€ข Student installed Rafters in correct sequence

T6 Working in small groups the student communicated and coordinated with the team to install roof supports
for an oblique end roof
The task:
โ€ข Student cut and installed under purlins according to drawings and specs
โ€ข Student cut and installed struts according to drawing and specs
โ€ข Trimmers are fitted to gable ends and a verge rafter installed according to drawings and specs
โ€ข Student was able to show and communicate where and how a fire system would be installed

Only one re-assessment attempt will be granted for each assessment item. Time Allowed: 4 hours Materials Provided by Assessor: All materials and tools required to complete the task will be provided. Materials and Equipment to be Supplied by the Student: Personal protective equipment PPE and nail bag. Assessment Range and Conditions: Assessment will be conducted in simulated work environment CIT Bruce under teacher supervision at all times. if at any stage the assessors deem the assessment to be unsafe it will be stopped. Access to all resources, manual and standards is permitted. All mobile phones are to be switch off. Assessment Criteria: To achieve a Satisfactory result, your assessor will be looking for your ability to demonstrate the key skills/tasks/knowledge detailed in the Assessment Task to industry standard. Using the plans provided, you are required to: 1. Complete the JSA and Toolbox talk for this Practical Assessment Class participation activity on Ready Skills. Your trainer will form an open discussion to assist with completing both the JSA & Toolbox talk activities. 2. Select all hand & power tools required for this Practical Assessment Class participation activity with Toolbox Talk. Your trainer will form an open discussion to assist with completing this activity. 3. Select all materials required for this Practical Assessment Class participation activity with Toolbox Talk. Your trainer will form an open discussion to assist with completing this activity. 4. Complete all calculations required for measuring, marking & cutting roof framing members Students will need a pencil, eraser & a scientific calculator. Your trainer will supply worksheets for all roof member calculations. Students are required to successfully complete all calculations and to write these dimensions on the attached rafter drawings. 5. Construct both Major & Minor roofs In teams of 2, students are to construct the OCTAGONAL END Pitched Roof. Using 70 x 35 mgp10 pine. Students are to set-out, measure & cut 1 pattern Common Rafter & 1 pattern Hip Rafter. Once your trainer has inspected & confirmed these rafters, you may then proceed to setting out the roof frame member locations and constructing your OCTAGONAL END pitched roof. 6. Take photographs of completed Practical Assessment activity & upload to drop-box Use your phone and the ready skills app, take a few photographs of the completed Roof and a photograph of your completed calculations sheet. These are to be submittedintoreadyskills. 7. Dismantle, de-nail roof frame & return all tools to store. Roof model to be SAFELY de-constructed, ALL fixings removed. Any re-usable timber lengths are to be stowed in racks. All small timber pieces placed in scrap bins and work area cleaned. All tools are to be returned to the store. You MUST report any tool defects or damage to your trainer.
