Occopancy of tracks in railway traffic
Device for Registering the Occupancy of Tracks in Railway Traffic (upgrade possible)
A very common method for determining the occupancy of a rail track are the so-called track circuits. This method involves applying a low voltage to a pair of rail tracks which are isolated from the rest of the network and monitoring whether the voltage is short-circuited by the wheels and axles of a passing train. Rust and dirt that may cover the rail surface over time can create significant problems. The present invention consists of a device that allows to break through the insulating surface and thus ensures reliable signalling. This is achieved by creating sparks between the carriage wheels and the rails. Advantages: no modifications required to the track network, can be implemented in cross border traffic, low costs, independent of the electricity network, etc.
The ERTMS/ETCS application “levels” define different uses of ERTMS as a train control system, ranging from track to train communications (Level 1) to continuous communications between the train and the radio block centre (Level 2). Level 3, which is in a conceptual phase, will further increase ERTMS’ potential by introducing a “moving block” technology. Whilst it is commonly acknowledged that to date, ERTMS level 2 offers considerable benefits, the use of level 1 already brings significant advantages for the railways and allows for High Speed travel.

Transport networks have witnessed two significant trends over the past half decade or so. The first has been an explosion in the bandwidth that these networks can support and the distances over which they can support it. This is due to the advent of cost-effective wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and dense-WDM (DWDM), as well as a slew of technologies that extend transmission range, such as...more
ERTMS Fact Sheet 14 - ERTMS deployment in the UKUNIFE2012
Although geographically distant from Central Europe’s freight hubs, the UK is gradually launching major ERTMS investments as part of an ambitious program to revitalise national railway traffic. In a country with a long history of conventional signalling systems and train operations, the introduction of a major re-signalling program raises some exciting challenges. Whilst ERTMS Level 2 first entered into
service in March 2011 on the Cambrian line, railway authorities are now pushing for a larger deployment scheme, which would allow to increase capacity and performance on Britain’s railway lines and contribute to economic growth.

Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) is one of the emerging research areas in the mobile computing field which is considered as future technology and promising topic in computer science and computer networks. Which provides road safety, updated traffic information, and infotainment. VANET consists of a large number of vehicles moving in high speeds while broadcasting important information like safety and control information which must be sent with high priority. Crowded networks like VANET having many vehicles competing to reserve the channel to send critical information which may lead to high collision scenarios, and therefore, there must be a protocol to send this kind of information with high reliability, low data loss and with no collision. In this research a collision-free protocol will be proposed to manage the channel access among competing vehicles to eliminate the collisions which occur rapidly in VANET especially in dense situations, the proposed protocol hereinafter will be called (I-MAC) protocol expected to enhance the channel performance, achieve load balancing, fairness, and decrease message loss and enhance reliability, The evaluation criteria will examine the channel throughput, message delay, and message loss; the results show that the overall channel performance with regard to collision and packet loss ratio is improved.

ABSTRACT:
This article conceptualises a common approach to train teachers and university lecturers in integrating the use of e-keys produced by the EU-funded project KeyToNature in the design, development, and delivery of e-learning modules within their school practice. The approach is based on setting and administering learning scenarios developed around real practice assignments that have at their core the identification of organisms and end up with the creation of meaningful biodiversity information products, rooted in concrete environmental contexts. The learning products may even include the creation of specific sub-keys from the initially used e-keys. The paper briefly describes the application and the real testing of the approach in an experimental teacher training course conducted in Bulgaria within the KeyToNature project.

Telecoms Carriers and Service Providers use Managed Ethernet Demarcation Devices (EDDs) to provide full end-to-end visibility and control of their Layer-2 infrastructure.
Advanced EDDs incorporate test-traffic generation and protocols such as ITU-T Y.1731 to monitor key service-level characteristics such as Frame Loss, Latency and Jitter.
Now, it is possible to incorporate fibre integrity checking and fault-reporting to such devices. Specifically, Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) functionality, integrated directly into EDD fibre interfaces, provides a cost-effective solution to Carriers for fibre fault determination and localisation, reducing costs and time-to-repair for customer services.

Development of a Wavelet-ANFIS based fault location system for underground po...IOSRJEEE
In the past decade, electricity demand has increased rapidly in metropolitan areas. All over the world, large scale underground power cable installations networks are replacing overhead transmission lines due to environmental concerns in densely populated areas. Underground cable systems are manufactured to have long life with reliability. However, the useful life span of these cables is not infinite. The increase in failure rates and system breakdowns on older underground power cables are now adversely impacting system reliability and many losses involved; therefore it is readily apparent that necessary action has to be taken to manage the consequences of this trend. In this paper, a method that combines wavelets and Neuro-fuzzy technique for fault location and identification is proposed. A 10km, 34.5KV, 50Hz power transmission line model was developed and different faults and locations simulated, and then certain selected features of the wavelet transformed signals were extracted to develop an ANFIS for fault location. Comparison of the ANFIS output values and the actual values show that the percentage error was established to be less than 1%. Thus, it can be concluded that the wavelet-ANFIS technique is accurate enough to be used in identifying and locating underground power line faults.

Unterdrückung von Reibschwingungen in KFZ-KupplungenDr. Andrea Nestl

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
