2. INTRODUCTION
• Florence, known as the Lady with the Lamp. 1820–
1910, English nurse, famous for her work
during the Crimean War. She helped to raise the status and quality of
the nursing profession and
founded a training school for nurses in London (1860)21st Century
• NURSING is the glue that holds a patient’s health care journey
together. Across the entire patient experience, and wherever there is
someone in need of care, nurses work tirelessly to identify and
protect the needs of the individual.
• Beyond the time-honored reputation for compassion and dedication
lies a highly specialized profession, which is constantly evolving to
address the needs of society. From ensuring the most accurate
diagnoses to the ongoing education of the public about critical
health issues; nurses are indispensable in safeguarding public health.

3. Biography:
• Florence Nightingale was born in Florence, Italy, on May
12, 1820. During the Crimean War, she and a team of nurses
improved the unsanitary conditions at a British base
hospital, reducing the death count by two-thirds. Her
writings sparked worldwide health care reform. In 1860 she
established St. Thomas' Hospital and the Nightingale
Training School for Nurses. She died August 13, 1910, in
London.
Florence Nightingale spent her night rounds giving personal
care to the wounded, establishing her image as the 'Lady
with the Lamp.'

individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick
or well and in all settings. It includes the promotion of health,
the prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying

• NURSING PROCESS; a scientific method designed to deliver the
very best in patient care, through five simple steps.
• Assessment – Nurses assess patients on an in-depth physiological,
economic, social and lifestyle basis.
• Diagnosis – Through careful consideration of both physical
symptoms and patient behavior, the nurse forms a diagnosis.
• Outcomes / Planning – The nurse uses their expertise to set
realistic goals for the patient’s recovery. These objectives are then
closely monitored.
• Implementation – By accurately implementing the care plan,
nurses guarantee consistency of care for the patient whilst
meticulously documenting their progress.
• Evaluation – By closely analyzing the effectiveness of the care plan

• DIRECT PATIENT’S CARE:

etc.

• 4. To assist the patient in elimination, offering and removing the bed pans and Urinals.

• 6. Assist in feeding the weak and debilitated patients.
• 7. Writing of diet sheet, Supervision and distribution of diets.
• 8. Assist in physiotherapy, ambulation and rehabilitation.
• 9. Carry-out patient’s teaching and demonstration according to the need.

• 11. Care of the dying and dead.
• 12. Administration of Medicines and Injections to the patients.
• 13. Assist in administration of intravenous injections, infusion and Transfusion.
