The document discusses the Progressive Movement that emerged in the early 20th century in response to issues stemming from industrialization and urbanization. Progressives sought to address corruption in government and business and create a fairer, more just and democratic society. Their three major goals were to increase popular control of government, protect social well-being through reforms addressing urban issues and morality, and create economic change through greater competition and regulation of monopolies. Progressives largely consisted of educated middle-to-upper class women and men who wanted to cure the ills underlying the seemingly prosperous Gilded Age society.
