Data integration, data interoperation and data quality are major challenges that continue to haunt enterprises. Every enterprise either by choice or by chance has created massive silos of data in different formats, with duplications and quality issues.
Knowledge graphs have proven to be a viable solution to address the integration and interoperation problem. Semantic technologies in particular provide an intelligent way of creating an abstract layer for the enterprise data model and mapping of siloed data to that model, allowing a smooth integration and a common view of the data.
Technologies like OWL (Web Ontology Language) and RDF (Resource Description Framework) are the back bone of semantics for knowledge graph implementation. Enterprises use OWL to build an ontology model to create a common definition for concepts and how they are connected to each other in their specific domain.
They then use RDF to create a triple format representation of their data by mapping it to the Ontology. This approach makes their data smart and machine understandable.
But how can enterprises control and validate the quality of this mapped data? Furthermore, how can they use this one abstract representation of data to meet all their different business requirements? Different departments, different LoBs and different business branches all have their own data needs, creating a new challenge to be tackled by the enterprise.
In this talk we will look at how the power of SHACL (SHAPES and Constraints Language), a W3C standard for defining constraint sets over data; complements the two core semantic technologies OWL and RDF. What are the similarities, the overlaps and the differences.
We will talk about how SHACL gives enterprises the power to reuse, customize and validate their data for various scenarios, uses cases and business requirements; making the application of semantics even more practical.

Failing to comply with such regulations can bring on substantial fines. Even more importantly, it can hurt the bottom line and reputation of businesses, having far-reaching side effects. Complying with such regulations, and actively cracking down on financial crime, however, is not easy.
Cross-referencing interconnected data across various datasets, and trying to apply detection rules and to discover patterns in the data is complicated. It takes expertise, effort, and the right technology to be able to do this efficiently.
A natural and efficient way of looking for patterns and applying rules in troves of interconnected data is to model and view that data as a graph. By modeling data as a graph, and applying graph-based algorithms such as PageRank or Centrality, traversing paths, discovering connections and getting insights becomes possible.
Graphs and graph databases are the fastest-growing area of data management technology for a number of reasons. One of the reasons is because they are a perfect match for use cases involving interconnected data.
Queries that would be very complicated to express and very slow to execute using relational databases or other NoSQL database technology, are feasible using graph databases. With the rise in complexity of modern financial markets, financial crimes require going 4 to 11 levels deep into the account – payment graph: this requires a different solution than either relational or NoSQL databases.

- how are other than by-primary-key queries actually organized and executed in a distributed system, so that they can run most efficiently?
- how do the contemporary distributed databases actually achieve transactional semantics for non-trivial operations that affect different shards/servers?
This talk will give an overview of these challenges and the available solutions that some open source distributed databases have picked to solve them.

Result is awesome, for a budget kept under control, we provided a new Drupal Module to monitor and configure Solr6 indexation and search engine, together with custom API to index external WebSite.

With GDPR in place organizations need to process personal data lawfully, maintain this accurately for no longer than necessary, and in a secure way.
They should be able to report on the purposes of processing, the categories of personal data they control, and be able to demonstrate compliance with regards to GDPR policies. The challenge organizations face with regards to GDPR, being able to record every point where processing activities of personal data takes place and to showcase accountability with regards to this activity, has made data governance even more critical on the data lineage and data provenance aspects.
Governing data lineage enables the understanding of the organization’s data flow activities and to identify and document the legal justification for each type of activity. In addition GDPR requires evidence of records for the processing of personal data which implies the need to effectively record and govern data provenance.
In the current talk we are going to showcase how effectively governing data lineage and data provenance gives us the ability to verify that the processing of private data within an organization is compliant with GDPR regulatory requirements.

A short talk on the topic of "MarkLogic and the Linked Data Connection", about using MarkLogic with triple stores and running SPARQL queries via the SPARQL HTTP Graph Data Protocol and the SPARQL Protocol.

Werner Vogels, the CTO of Amazon.com, mentioned in one of his papers that "data inconsistency in large-scale reliable distributed systems has to be tolerated" in order to obtain the desired performance and availability. In this talk I'll present you how we equip Cassandra with a primary-backup atomic broadcast of a write-ahead log. This way, we achieved to make Apache Cassandra a key-value store that combines strong consistency with high performance and high availability. Finally, we will discuss our compaction scheduling which by far improves throughput by up to 40% in write-intensive workloads.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has made substantial investments in meeting evolving scientific, technical, and policy driven demands on storing, managing, and delivering data. As these demands continue to grow in complexity and scale, the USGS must continue to explore innovative solutions to improve its management, curation, sharing, delivering, and preservation approaches for large-scale research data. Supporting these needs, the USGS has partnered with the University of Chicago-Globus to research and develop advanced repository components and workflows leveraging its current investment in Globus. The primary outcome of this partnership includes the development of a prototype enterprise repository, driven by USGS Data Release requirements, through exploration and implementation of the entire suite of the Globus platform offerings, including Globus Flow, Globus Auth, Globus Transfer, and Globus Search. Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
