The Nokia GEM concept phone has a touchscreen that wraps around the entire device rather than just the front. This allows the phone's appearance and interface to change depending on the application in use. For example, when using the camera the entire phone would look like a camera. The touchscreen could also be interactive on the back and front simultaneously. While the GEM is just a concept, it demonstrates Nokia's vision of smartphones that are fully customizable through touch interfaces on all sides of the device.

Touchscreens have become the default UI in mobile devices, but with their adoption the lack of a tactile response is a common complaint. We find that not being able to feel simple UI elements like a button input is actually a big deal.
In this session Immersion’s Haptic Expert Team will explain some of the science behind why our sense of touch is so important to mobile interactions as well as give you practical steps to follow when designing tactile feedback into your software projects. Haptics (vibration touch feedback) powers intuitive experiences from touch inputs to game content to interactive communications. Haptics can add a sense of realism which is generally unexpected in mobile applications.
Audience members will also learn the standard methods used to add tactile effects to mobile projects as well as an extended method used by Android developers like Sega and Rockstar Games to add a pre-made library of over 124 tactile effects into their Android projects. Hands-on mobile demonstrations will also be provided.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Nokia gem
1. NOKIA GEM
ABSTRACT
This design is unique, where the whole body is the touch screen. Not just any hp
touchscreen. No more casing that covers or protects the phone. So to say that body also serves as
a "screen" or "display―.Nokia’s been at it again with the crazy concepts, revealing the GEM — a
phone that’s wrapped entirely in one continuous array of touchscreens. You’ll never be able to
stop wiping fingerprints off it.
―It’s called GEM because polished precious stones have several sides. Also it’s a concept
which is like a raw gem, but it needs to be polished to become a real product.‖
1.1. EXISTING SYSTEM
Touch screen is a concept that provides an interaction to the user with the mobile, to
directly manipulate the applications of the mobile that are once done through the keypad.Which
is the leading technology at present gadgets.
1.2. PROPOSED TECHNOLOGY
A mobile phone concept that looks unique and futuristic has revealed by Nokia and it is
Nokia Gem.The touch screen on the Nokia Gem can be operated flexible around the phone body.
Accessing an application can be done easily on the entire screen, not just limited to the front of
the screen.
You can see the above specified technology of touch screen to entire body in the below
figure
1
2. 2.1.INTRODUCTION
ESPOO, Finland – Launched on the 25th anniversary of the Nokia Research Center, the
GEM device changes appearance from camera to phone or map according to the function
selected by the user. It could even display advertising messages on the back of the phone.
The back and front are also interactive, making it possible to pinch and zoom the rear of
the phone while getting a constant clear view of the image on the front.
Or you could have the same image at differing zoom factors on either side of the phone,
allowing you to flip between a detailed map view and large-scale area, for example.
Senior Design Manager JarkkoSaunamäki, who led the team which invented GEM,
yesterday told Nokia Conversations: ―Now, when you launch an application like the camera,
your mobile phone still looks like a mobile phone, but with GEM, when you launch the camera
application, the whole phone looks like a camera.
You can have one image wrapped around the whole device or one on each side, as
demonstrated in the stylish video animation when the woman user photographs some wallpaper
and adopts it as the design for her phone casing.
2.2. DESIGN
In terms of design, my big take way from the vedio is simplicity. The clean, clear design
is both practical for productivity and gorgeous to look at.
one of the emerging technologies used in this concept are bi-stable displays that do not
consume power if the content is not changing. This means the phone has a seamless display that
encompasses the phone all over. The video below explains how digital personalization and
multitasking can be achieved by using all sides of the phone.
And like the designers put it, ―It can also look like a traditional mobile phone, having the
sides decorative or functional with the application of choice.
Although it functions like one big, giant touchscreen, the GEM recognizes and activates
only the sides you want to use.
2
3. "In terms of technology, I think the main takeaway is that these 'smart' devices are only
going to get smarter and more integrated in to our lives‖.
"Leaving the philosophical conversations of privacy and dependency for another day, the
future is going to provide some amazing technology that is going to make our lives easier and let
us stay more focused on what is important to us.
2.3. IMPLEMENTATION
Nokia Research loves its concept phones – the flexible Kinetic concept was one of our
favorite things at Nokia World last month – and for the team’s 25th anniversary they’ve
produced this, the Nokia GEM. Built around the idea of the entire phone’s surface being a touch-
sensitive display – front, sides and back – GEM learns from your most common tasks and adapts
its default appearance to suit, so if you play games most of the time the phone will usually look
like a gamepad.
However, there’s also the possibility of resizable QWERTY and numeric keypads, which
can be pushed – along with the ongoing IM conversation – around to the back of the phone while
you look up details on the front. The flared upper edges work as an app carousel, shuffled around
with a thumb and then dragged to the main display to launch them, and everything is resizable.
Because so much of the body is given over to screen, when you run an app – say,
triggering the camera with a circle gesture shortcut – the whole phone can adapt its appearance to
suit. Alternatively, as in Nokia’s non-functional mockup shown in these photos, you could have
browser favorites circling the edges and media playback controls on the top.
Nokia is also thinking about potential subsidy alternatives, for instance showing geo-
specific adverts on the back of the GEM while you’re on a call (and presumably not using the
rear display). ―It’s called GEM because polished precious stones have several sides‖ project lead
JarkkoSaunamäki says. ‖Also it’s a concept which is like a raw gem, but it needs to be polished
to become a real product.‖
3
4. Any real product is likely a fair way off in the future, however, given the complex
flexible display technology required to clad an entire phone in touchscreens. Still, we wouldn’t
argue with seeing some of the UI in the GEM implemented in future Nokia handsets.
It is a concept which is like a raw gem, and needs to be polished to make a real product.
Here are some of the top-drawer imaginations by Nokia.
4
5. 2.4. FEATURES
Nokia want the user can interact with the entire body of Nokia Gem.
The back and front are also interactive.
Our mobile phone still looks like a mobile phone, but GEM want to contradict it.
―Now, when you launch an application like the camera, your mobile phone still looks like
a mobile phone.
But with GEM, when you launch the camera application, the whole phone looks like a
camera," said Senior Design Manager JarkkoSaunamäki, who led the team, which
invented GEM.
5
6. 3. THE CURRENT IDEA OF ACTIVITIES
3.1. INTRODUCTION
Clearly a gem of an idea in every possible way, the Nokia Gem concept phone is the
latest to emerge from the company’s quarters. The Finnish manufacturer aims to make the entire
handset full-touch not only from the front but also from the back and the handset is just a
prototype of what it may have in store for smartphone users of the future. Apparently, the Nokia
Gem will adorn the look of the function that is being indulged in by users. Say it’s in the camera
mode, then the handset will take on the appearance of a camera. And just in case a map is being
referred to for directions, the entire device will look like a map with the ability to display a
detailed view or a large scale area on each side of the mobile phone.
Imagine that a smart phone starts changing appearance from phone to a camera or map or any
other thing, based on functions selected by a user.
Undoubtedly, we have never imagined like this ever before. But Nokia has dared to think in
such a creative way.
The company, of late, has released a new phone concept - GEM - which has potential to
revolutionise the mobile design by turning the entire handset into a touchscreen.
3.2. INTERACTION ON BACK
Users could have the option of carrying advertising on the back of the phone while making calls,
in return for a discount on bills.
6
7. 3.3. SHARING FILES
It is the new way Nokia envisages to share media files. It looks like pouring files from one
device to another device.
3.4. IMAGES
Users could have the same image at differing zoom factors on either side of the phone,
thereby allowing them to flip between a detailed map view and large-scale area, for example.
7
8. Users could also have one image wrapped around the whole device or one on each side.
It’s the ultimate customisable device.
Interactive back and front to make it possible to pinch and zoom the rear of the phone
while getting a constant clear view of the image on the front.
8
9. 3.4. DEFAULT APPEARANCE
There is no default appearance. If users play a lot of games it will usually resemble a
gamepad.
3.5. 3D-IMAGES
The phone could also display 3D images allowing viewing from all angles.
9
10. 3.6. VIRTUAL BUTTONS
The phone could have virtual buttons and logos all around it, just like a browser’s favorites bar.
4.APPLICATIONS
It provides different zoom factors.
Carrying advertisements.
3D imaging.
Interaction with other device.
Virtual buttons and logos.
Wrapping images
Sharing files in easy and interesting way
10
11. 4. CONCLUSION
The most innovative feature of this mobile is providing touch screen to entire
body of the mobile with interaction between all sides of the phone and changing
appearance.
It is called GEM because it has several sides like polished precious stones.
