Nobel Prize Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of the Nobel Prize poses a unique set of challenges that requires
a nuanced understanding of the topic and a comprehensive exploration of its multifaceted
dimensions. The complexity lies not only in the vastness of the Nobel Prize's scope but also in
the need to delve into the intricate details of its history, significance, controversies, and the
myriad achievements of laureates.
One of the primary difficulties is the need for extensive research to present a well-informed and
credible narrative. The Nobel Prize spans various fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Medicine,
Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences. Each category demands a deep dive into the
specificities of laureates' contributions and the societal impact of their work. This requires sifting
through a plethora of sources, from academic journals to historical archives, to ensure accuracy
and depth in the essay.
Moreover, maintaining a balance between the technical aspects of scientific achievements and the
more subjective evaluation of literature or peace efforts can be challenging. Crafting a coherent
narrative that seamlessly transitions between these diverse domains while maintaining the
reader's engagement is a delicate art.
The task is further complicated by the ever-evolving nature of the Nobel Prize. New laureates are
announced annually, and their contributions must be incorporated to keep the essay current and
relevant. This necessitates constant updates and revisions, adding an extra layer of challenge to
the writing process.
Addressing the controversies surrounding certain Nobel Prizes, such as debates over deserving
recipients or allegations of bias, adds another layer of complexity. Navigating these contentious
issues requires a careful and nuanced approach, acknowledging diverse perspectives without
compromising the overall coherence of the essay.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on the Nobel Prize demands a combination of meticulous
research, a nuanced understanding of various fields, and the ability to weave together a cohesive
narrative. The process involves overcoming the challenges of staying current, handling diverse
subject matter, and addressing controversies with sensitivity. However, with dedication and a
thoughtful approach, one can navigate these difficulties and produce a compelling and insightful
essay on this prestigious topic.

accomplishes seven of the twelve tips, which is a little more than halfway there.
Hasbro s newsroom is a collection of their press releases, social media, upcoming and

they have tabs on the side which are labeled Press Release and Media Library .
The press releases are in chronological order, and the reader is able to search by

social media, brand kits, and links to the logo. The videos section shows multiple
videos describing Hasbro, toy releases, and their commitment to CSR. They have

Brenda Shaughnessy s View Of Life
Mike Tyson once said, Time is like a book. You have a beginning, a middle and an
end. It s just a cycle. His interpretation of a never ending and repeating series of
events is Brenda Shaughnessy perspective of life. Her view of the real world is an
engulfing journey that repeats itself in the future, similar to a continuous cycle. Brenda
Shaughnessy s repeated use of figurative language and imagery, creates a vivid
illustration to establish a clear connection between love in the past, present, and
future.
Shaughnessy includes specific imagery and figurative language into her writing in
order to create an idea of the type of person she is. In her poem I Have a Time
Machine, Shaughnessy states that But it s never live;
Leadership in 12 Angry Men
In the film 12 Angry Men, a group of twelve jurors are deciding the fate of a young
boy accused of murdering his father. Throughout the juries dilleration, one man
exhibits all of the qualities of leadership. This man is juror number 8 played by
Henry Fonda. Fonda not only exhibits the the 10 qualities of a leader but he uses
these qualities to lead the entire juryto a vote of not guilty (Fonda Lumet, 1957).
Early on in the film Fonda shows the first quality of leadership vision. Vision can be
defined as the leaders ability to know what is needed and how what is needed can be
achieved (book). In the case of 12 Angry Men, Henry Fonda has a vision that he and
the other jurors have the responsibility to consider the facts in the case ... Show more

For Fonda the entire film is him doing just that. Being that Fonda what the only one
at the beginning to vote not guilty, he used his enthusiasm to bring the rest of the
jurors over to his way of think. A good example of this is how he convinced juror
number 9 (the old man) that there could be doubt in the witness that was an older
gentleman like he was. By showing juror 9 that there were flaws in the evidence and
the witnesses he was able to gain another follower. His enthusiasm for getting the
ruling right is what drove him to be able to make this happen time and time again
with every juror (Fonda Lumet, 1957).
Next we are introduced to Fonda s leadership quality of Stability. Stability is the
quality of a leader to discern emotions from fact and keep personal beliefs separate
from the task at hand (book). In the film we see this when Fonda discerns that
racism of another juror is not acceptable. He says to juror 6 that it s always difficult
to keep personal prejudice out of a thing like this (Fonda Lumet, 1957). In this
statement he is showing his own abilities to discern what prejudice is and how he is
trying to keep it from influencing his decisions.
The fifth quality of leadership expressed by Fonda in the film was that of Concern
for Others. In this quality of leadership the leader values those they lead as fellow
human beings and not just as those that are there to serve (book). The whole premise
behind the film directly

I Am A Professional Engineer
It is not easy to become a successful, professional engineer. A professional engineer
requires high responsibility, especially problem based solving skills to cope with
workplace environment and compete with others. Problem based learning (PBL) is
really important to reflect the professional practice of engineers. There have been
several definitions of PBL. According to Lizinger, Lattuca, Hadgraft and Newstetter
(2011, p.134), PBL is the approach that allows learners to practice finding solutions
throughout their academy. Learners in a PBL process have to reflect, identify and
learn about the complex problem and the cycle is repeated until learners find a
solution that they can do both in writing and presentation. There are some basics of
PBL such as decision making, communication, collaboration, self regulation, self
motivation and flexibility. These basics are the base for every engineerto become a
successful professional practicing engineer.
Decision making ability helps engineers to learn deeply from the problems and have
ability to analyse and get the detail of the problems before planning to solve them.
Deep learners focus on the problem carefully and get all information about it.
Lizinger, Lattuca, Hadgraft and Newstetter (2011, p.126) state that the experiences of
the effective learning from deep learning leads learners to understand key words and
general principle to develop both technic and profession. Not only deep learning,
decision making ability improves
Essay On Bath Bombs
What are bath bombs? Bath bombs are relaxing and soothing shapes that are compact
with dried ingredients and oils. There are different types and people do change
ingredients and the ratio of ingredients. For example all bath bombs should contain
natural moisturizers of coconut oil and cocoa butter. All should have therapeutic
essential oils and restorative epsom salt. Which soothes your skinand relaxes you in
the bath. It s like having a spa in the bath with different colors.
Have you ever wondered why do bath bombs fizz? Well bath bombs have a
chemical inside so once it hits the water it reacts. For example when the bath bomb
hits the water it sets off a chemical reaction between citric acid and the bicarbonate of
soda. During the reaction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What happens to your skin in cause of bath bombs? First you have to remember
everyone makes bath bombs different some people may be allergic to the
ingredients so it affects them differently. Now if you make the original bath bombs
with oils the almond oil moisturises your skin and the essential oils make your skin
smell good. But know if you use different ratio of ingredients they may not work
the same. You also may be thinking how does the oils come out of the bath bomb?
Well it s just like when it fizzes, because for both as soon as it hits the water
everything starts coming out of the bath bomb even letting out the essential oils and
almond oils. Again you have to remember that there is a wide range of ingredients
that you can use to make bath bombs. For example some people may put a different
ingredient to substitute the almond oil or will use something to substitute ingredients
they may not have which will cause a different reaction towards your skin also they
may change the ratio of ingredients which also will cause a different reaction. What
are all the ingredients in a regular bath bomb? Ingredients that are in regular bath
bombs are Citric acid, baking soda, epsom salt, corn starch, and the essential oil can
be anything such as peppermint, vanilla, or
Theme Of Vertigo By Paul Austers Mr Vertigo
To fight through downfall I was twelve years old the first time I walked on water is
the first line in Paul Austers Mr. Vertigo, a book about a child s dream and the
journey to reach them. The book takes place in America at 1927 where a young
boy named Walt is approached by a strange man, called Master Yehudi and is
offered a chance in a lifetime, the ability to fly. As he goes with him he chooses a
difficult path that will bring both wonders and despair. This is a book telling about
a boys big ambition to overcome all hardship that lives throws in his way. The
ability to overcome hardship can be seen through the protagonist personality, his
ambition to reach greatness. He was a nobody, a nothing, so when he is offered
the chance to achieve something greater he takes it. Not like a bird, my little man.
Like a god. You d be the wonder of wonders, Walt, the holy of holies. As long as
men walked the earth, they d worship you as the greatest among them. (Auster 74).

goal, suffer through hardship so repulsing that no human ever should need to go

success and his downfall is his downfall. He cannot longer stand how Dean keeps
falling to the bottom and decides to make him kill himself. Although when Dean
recognizes him for who he was, the flying boy, he loses his cool and end up
threating Dean with a pistol. When revealed about what his deed he again loses it

The Great Gatsby Impact On Society
The roaring twenties was a time of economic growth and cultural prosperity. The
roaring twenties left an impact on authors similar to F. Scott Fitzgerald to write
novels based on this era. The novel The Great Gatsby was based on the era of 1920s
presenting several themes influenced by the change in culture and economy. The
revolving theme presented in the Great Gatsbyis the idea of old money vs new
money. The effect of new money coming into power made an impact on society and
this was showcased in the novel. After World War I, the United States
began to see a
growth in the economy, this was the beginning of the Roaring 20s. During this time,
money was easier to obtain and more began to carouse around. The prohibition law
was implemented during this time and allowed criminals to make money off selling
illegal alcohol. The increase in carousing and partying, increased the change in culture
and technology that surely paved the way for society today.... Show more content on

The phrase old money means those who inherited wealth from previous family
members and were considered upper class. Old money was deemed more
prestigious and classy than those of new money. New Money is a phrase that
refers to a person who has come into a considerable amount of wealth for their
generation. In The Great Gatsby the characters, are a part of the upper class. Jay
Gatsby, is on of main characters and is consider new money because of his sudden
wealth. Nick Carraway and his wife, Daisy Buchanan are old money, because they
have inherited their wealth, and Tom Buchanan is Daisy s cousin and the
Basketball Shoes Research Paper
There are plenty of trends that go on in our modern day era. One of the most
expensive ones would be the increasing price in basketball shoes. The increasing
price is due to many people being brand washed, meaning that the consumer buys
the product from a brand, just because of the name and the status of it. Also an
increase in labor costs in China all are factors that increase the price of basketball
shoes in China. Because of the increase in material cost, it increases the general
release cost for a sneaker. The effect of constantly increasing shoe prices on the
consumer market, is that brands will start releasing sneakers with storylines / special
editions, and will charge at least a two hundred dollar price tag for coveted sneakers.

Though the price tags on these basketball shoes can be seen as ridiculous, these
companies are still making a huge sales off these shoes, largely because our society
brand washed most of these brands customers to pay that much for shoes. According
to www.statista.com, Nike s revenue worldwide is $30,601 Million, their net income
worldwide is $3,273 million and there number of retail stores worldwide is 931.
Also according to www.statista.com , Adidas net sales worldwide is 14,535
million Euros, their net profit was 524 million Euros and their number of stores
worldwide is 1,746. Even with these hefty prices, at which companies are selling
their products, they are still making huge profits globally and will continue to make
big profits, due purely to the name of their brand, despite the prices. The increases
in these companies prices, it has increased the price of other companies basketball
shoes such as, Under Armor and Peak. Also it has sunk cheaper shoe companies like
And 1 and Reebok.
Also to include more foreign basketball shoe companies, for example China s Li
Ning made 1.11 billion in revenue and a Net income of 318.8 million, also China s
Peak brand brought in over 530 million in revenue and can be seen on NBA
players feet all over the league. These prices are not only burning holes in people s
pockets but they are also sending the young crowds crazy, to the point where it is
leading to violence. Rising sneaker prices can be attributed to
Symbolism In The Marigolds
Fallen Innocence, Risen Empathy Come away, O human child! To the waters and
the wild, With a faery, hand in hand. For the world s more full of weeping than you
can understand. (W.B Yeats) Similar to what Yeats talks about in his poem, many
people feel a sense of horror as they discover that the world is not the happy place
they imagined it was when they were a child. When it becomes time for a child to
shed his/her innocence and take on the responsibilities of adulthood, one wishes that
he/she could just run away from it all, just like the human child in this quote by
Yeats. The world is full of weeping and horrors, but an innocent person can do
nothing to help. Innocence cannot see injustice through its closed eyes. That is why it

The symbol of marigolds represent the innocence that a child has, specifically how
that innocence can be ripped apart and how empathy can replace innocence. The
symbol of a potted geranium represents the complex emotions that replace
innocence after a person becomes an adult. Collier shows the reader that this
transition is tough and will come with many challenges, ultimately resulting in a
loss of innocence that will shape the readers whole life. These ideas are very
relatable to many teenagers, as they see old friends drift away because they just aren
t the same person anymore and depression in teenagers due to severe challenges is
becoming increasingly common. For many, the loss of innocence is full of fear and
confusion, but the resulting gain of empathy is
The Theme Of Nostalgia In The Dead By James Joyce
James Joyce and Frank O Connor are two Irish authors who embrace the theme of
nostalgia throughout their works to show this important characteristic of Irish
Identity. Nostalgia can be seen in James Joyce s The Dead and Frank O Connor s
The Majesty of the Law . The characters in both stories reflect on the way Irish life
used to be. Each of these authors use characters in their short stories to show how
nostalgia plays an important role in Irish life. James Joyceand Frank O Connor
express nostalgia through their characters to show how central it is to the idea of
Irish Identity however, both authors still see problems with the idea of nostalgia in
one s life. James Joyce saw issues with the then current culture of Irelandcompared to

Dan does not necessary appreciate traditions and the way people were of the past
but rather he appreciates more tangible things. However, he does miss his mother
which we can see when the narrator says, Dan had looked after his mother while
the spark of life was in her, and after her death no other woman had crossed the

Analysis Of Diet Pepsi Print Advertisement
The Diet Pepsi print advertisement Forever Young is quite creative and thought
provoking. The print advertisement shows the front of a businessman s body,
from his nose down to his midsection. This most likely belongs in a magazine, in a
place such as a doctor s office or barbershop, or whatever any day place that the
average person would visit. He holds a Diet Pepsi cup in the center of the
advertisement, with the intention of immediately bringing the cup attention to the
reader. He blows bubbles through a straw into the beverage, overflowing the cup
and making quite a mess. It is a serious, black and gray formal background. This is
meant to be ironic, because a businessman does not typically partake in childish
behaviors like in the picture, in such a serious, adult like atmosphere. The main
message this is trying to convey is non conformity, through its ironic picture of a
relatable businessman, and its Forever Young caption on the bottom right. Forever
Young could also suggest that drinking Diet Pepsi can make one feel young and
like a kid again and how humans have a basic necessity for having fun, which can
be explained by blowing the bubbles in the drink. The non conformity message is
exemplified by the contrast of the sharp, well dressed businessman, with the bubble
blowing in the cup. The average day of a businessman, or simply an office worker is
general, is quite lackluster and repetitive. Sitting in a cubicle typing quarterly reports
and being forced

With many older cousins, I was consistently being compared to how they
performed in various subjects. I was pushed to take on leadership roles in many
different clubs and organizations as they would look good on college applications.
I learned early on, however, that leading by example and having faith in others
helps gets projects accomplished much more successfully than bullying people
around. For example, in high school, I was appointed chairperson of a school wide
international fair. I was in charge of organizing all the various multicultural clubs
and societies and putting on a variety food and dance show. Although my
competetaive drive was there pushing me to put on the best show I could, I
realized that there was only so much I could do myself and make others do by
forcing them. Instead I assigned tasks to others clubs and had faith that they would
get the job done. I believe that by watching how I did not procrastinate or avoid
doing my jobs, other members were inspired to do the same. Taking the LSI survey
has definitely shed some light on my thinking styles. There are definitely some
changes that I could make in order to become a more successful manager with a
high performing team. I have learned that while it is important to be interested in
people, to care about others, and to encourage them to improve, it is also just as
important to provide direction and set goals. As discussed in class, leading
Effectiveness And Safety Of Cam Practices
Although it is not part of standard or mainstream medical care, there has been a
sparking up rise in the use of non mainstream medical products and practices that are
referred to as Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Medical Doctors
(MD), Doctors of Osteopathy (DO), and Allied Health Professionals, such as Nurses
and Physical Therapists, all practice standard/mainstream care that most people are
familiar with. When non mainstream medicineis used together with standard care it is
considered complementary medicine, such as acupunctureto assist with cancer
treatment side effects of chemotherapy. When non mainstream medicine is
exchanged for standard care it is considered alternative medicine, such as chelation
therapy that removes excess metals from the blood when treating heart disease. A few
of the non mainstream or unconventional medical approaches are considered
integrative medicine, although there is a limited amount of some scientific evidence.
There have been several different studies composed to help determine the usefulness
and safety of CAM practices. Some researchers are unaware of the safety of the CAM
treatments and their functions. Consequently, it is difficult for people to make
informed decisions about using some treatments because of the lack of consistent
data. A variety of practices and systems of complementary medicine that have not
been embraced by mainstream Western medicine are because of cultural, economic,
social, and scientific reasons.
My Love Essay
I was loved even before I was born, that is what my parents always told me. To be
loved and fully accepted without reservation is their greatest gift to me. Raised by
Christian parents who modeled Christ s love, my early life was uneventful and
peaceful. I followed the rules and never got in any serious trouble. So for the first
ten years of my life, my faith was not tested and had no chance of maturing. My life
of ease did not incite me to seek Godor his purpose for me. God was in the
background for me then.
Then came some hard times. My easy life was shaken when my mom was
diagnosed with breast cancer. This was her second cancer diagnosis and more
serious than the first. Real life stress and worry came crashing in on me. Was I
being punished for some wrong doing? Would my mom survive? What would
happen to me? I was just a kid, but I knew how serious this was. At first, I did not
know where to find help and comfort. Then I remembered seeing my parents turn to
prayer and the Bible especially when they had worries. I came across Ephesian 1:4,
Even before he made the world, God loved us/me and chose us/me in Christ to be
holy and without fault in his eyes. This verse reminded me of what my parents told
me when I was very young. God chose me to have a relationship with Him through
his Son, Christ. He holds me without fault because of the sacrifice his Son made for
me. My mom s illness was not a punishment because I have already been forgiven
for my sins. I found peace and
Abortion During The Late Nineteenth-Century
Every year 1,511,300 infant lives are taken; 1,500,000 are victims of abortion, not
including countries other than our own. If a mother were to kill her child after it
were born it would be considered murder, so why is it that when a mother is
growing her child inside of her there are no legal consequences for aborting her child?
Over a span of several lifetimes, and in a variety of cultures, there is history of women
helping each other to abort. Over time the harmful and dangerous affects were
becoming known and once these methods became more and more popular during the
late nineteenth century, states began to prohibit abortions. Abortionbecame a crime
and a sin for several reasons. This was a dangerous procedure carried out with crude
methods, few antiseptics, and high mortality rates. But this alone cannot explain the
resentment towards abortion.
In the 1890s, doctors estimated that there were two million abortions a year in the
U.S, compared to the one and a half million today. Women who are determined not to
carry an unwanted pregnancy have always found some way to try to abort. All too
often, they have resorted to dangerous, sometimes deadly methods, such as inserting
knitting needles or coat hangers, one of the most symbolic signs of desperation of
women who have risked death to end their pregnancy, into the vagina and uterus.
Douching with dangerous solutions like lye or swallowing strong drugs or
chemicals were also ways for mothers to abort. Not only are

A state s sources of legitimacy are both internal and external. Internal legitimacy
comes from within the country, the willingness of the people to accept the
government as legitimate. Currenlty in Colombia, the internal legitimacy is on the

take time, they are a positive factor that encourages
the internal legitimacy of the leadership in Colombia. However, along with this
strength comes the weakness of widespread internal corruption in the government.
This is another area that is slowly climbing toward improvement, but is far from
perfect. There are many sources of corruption in Colombia, including (but not limited
to): bureaucratic corruption, political corruption, electoral fraud, nepotism and
cronyism, organized crime, and money laundering (3). The most concerning and
damaging to the internal legitimacy of the nation of these sources is electoral fraud.
No matter how powerful or accomplished a leader is, they are immediately deemed
illegitimate if they were not elected by the state s proper system. This has extended
from mayoral candidates failing to submit information about the financing of their
campaigns to legislators using intimidation to encourage large groups
What Role Should Management Have Within A Business...
What role should management have within a business regarding social
responsibility? Explain.
According to Friedman, a manager s only responsibility is to the shareholders, and
not society as a whole (Jennings, 111). We all agree that a manager s primary
responsibility is to the company and the shareholders. We feel that the manager s
role is to act as an agent to conduct business in congruence with the goals set by the
shareholders and laws of society, effectively making profitfor the company.
What are the different social responsibilities of a business? Can a business abide by
all social responsibilities at the same time? Explain.
Our consensus on the social responsibilities of a business include responsibilities to
the environment, the community, customers, shareholders, and employees. Such
responsibilities would include, creating new wealth, and new jobs according to
Michael Novak. (Jennings) We all felt that although it may be possible for a
business to abide by all of these responsibilities at the same time, it is highly unlikely
due to conflicts between the social responsibilities. For example, in order to make
profit and charge their customers less, the business may not always be able to ensure
perfect performance in regards to environmental responsibility.
Define Sustainability.
We all had similar definitions for sustainability, but the best description is that
sustainability is the management and coordination of environmental, social and
financial demands
The Efficiency Of Human Resource Management
Department
The efficiency of human resource management department is improved. The main
factors that affect the work efficiency of human resources management department
include: monthly payroll calculation and processing, staff attendance and leave
processing, employee information management, etc.. These transactions tend to
continue to occupy a large number of human resource managementpersonnel. Manual
operation is not only inefficient and error prone, the application of information
technology in the managementof human resources, will greatly reduce the routine
work occupies the proportion of human resource managers to time, freed from the
daily affairs of the management personnel. Information technology emphasizes
employee self service, if the employee s personal information has changed, he himself
can be through the information technology platform to update their information, after
a certain approval, the program can take effect. Similarly, for the training, holiday
applications, reimbursement and other day to day administrative affairs can also be
used for similar processing. This not only reduces the workload of human resources
management for data acquisition, validation and update, but also to ensure the quality
of the data and data update speed. This greatly improves the work efficiency of
human resources management department, and thus can have more time to think
about the problem of strategic level.
Business processes in the human resource management department are

Many people believe that the worst part of remembrance is all the pain that comes
with it. But what actually causes all the suffering is loneliness. Memories,
thoughts and ideas all have to be shared in order to understand them better, or to let
go of them. In this essay I will be looking at 6 poems: Piano by D.H. Lawrence,
Poem at 39 by Alice Walker, Stop All The Clocks by Auden, War Photographer by
Carol Ann Duffy, Praise Song by Grace Nichols and finally Digging by Seamus
Heaney and how they present their memories.
In Poem at 39 Alice Walker mainly talks about memories she had with her father and
how her feelings towards him have altered throughout the years. The poem was

Auden wants to remember him; he is asking for complete silence by saying, stop all
the clocks, cut off the telephone, prevent the dog from barking . Furthermore, does
the author want to stop the time, it could have been that he doesn t want to hear
anything about his friend s death or he doesn t want to accept that he is gone. In the
second stanza Auden talks about the importance of his loss and wants the entire
world to know about it, let the aeroplanes circle moaning overhead, scribbling on
the sky the message He Is Dead . Auden develops on the significance of his friend
in the last two stanzas by calling him his working week and Sunday rest, noon,
midnight, talk and song . This shows that he was as meaningful as Auden s daily
job and as relaxing as his day off, he was there at any time, day or night, he was part
of Auden s life and without him, life would be impossible.
Seamus Heaney s Digging explains the actions of his father and the effects of it on
him, similarly to what Walker has done. Both authors were raised on their parents
farm and therefore write about very similar concepts and in related styles. Heaney
watches his father, digging as he looks down his window . He can see all the

Rashid Rana is a contemporary artist born in 1968 in Lahore, Pakistan. In 1992, he
did his Bachelors in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan,
and received his degree of Masters of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of
Art, Boston, Massachusetts, US in 1994. Being one of the most influential artists in
the country, his works have been displayed in many exhibitions here in Pakistanand

he has also collaborated with billboard painters and has portrayed his ideas on
canvas. The secret behind his success is using different channels to represent the
originality of his works using visual language. Rana s focus of work nowadays are
large scale images made up of small pictures, which are at times in contradiction
with each other, but sometimes also support the larger images. He is currently the
head of the Fine Arts Department and one of the founding faculty members of the
School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD), Beaconhouse National University,
Lahore. Rana s works may not seem so comprehensive at first, but taking a closer
look shows how detailed and subvert they are. He enabled his work to be more
attractive and understandable by making it easy for an observer to comprehend by

Freshman Year Disaster
Freshman year, I imagined that year to be amazing. I wanted it to just have an
awesome flow but did it? It did in the beginning then a bomb went off during the
middle of the year and turned freshman year into a complete disaster. Freshman
year was supposed to be about having a great start to the rest of your high school
life before you enter the big bad world but other students just couldn t help
themselves but to create that bomb during the middle of my freshman year. The
year you were a tiny fish in a big pond. I remember freshman year being a complete
disaster, there is so many juicy events that took part in making this year a disaster
but the one that hits home the most was during the middle of the year. The day
started off like a normal school, this day was actually turning out to be great. Of
course, that did not last. I get this text from a friend saying Hey, you need to check
this out there was a screenshot of a picture along with it. I couldn t really see what
it was so I clicked on it to get a better look. Before I tell you what the picture was,
hold onto your hats because this is what made the rest of freshman year a disaster.
I click on the picture, it was this instagram page with some girls private part

The Principle Of Utility Explicit That Actions Or...
What is my ambition in life? What is everybody s ambition in life? That is a
question, which gives rise to many other questions, like why do we exist, what is
the purpose of our life? There is the thought that out reason of existence is only
known by God. That he has chosen it for us before we were ever born, and that
point of the reason is to be here for anyone else. The fundamental principle of utility
explicit that actions or behaviors are right in so far because they motivate
contentment or pleasure, wrong as they tend to develop unhappiness or sadness.
Therefore, usefulness is a teleological principle. This once again gives rise to some of
the similar fundamental issues concerned with hedonism, as discussed in the earlier
section on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many utilitarian s believe that contentment and sadness are primary states and can be,
more or less, quantified. Hedonistic expressions like strength, duration, fertility, and
probability, implicit that pleasure can be qualified quantitatively, possibly on a scale
from 1 to10, as area of a ferocious calculus. The basic issue for utilitarianism is giving
grounds for the altruistic principle of self sacrificing fr others advantages. Since, I do
not attend the events of the friendly games played at the stadium, and will not benefit
from hot dog events, why should I constitute to other project? Under exemplary
standard of utilitarianism, at least some of the members of the community or class
must compromise their own intellectual interests for the well being of others without
benefiting themselves. Honestly, it is often the case that turns out to be in the public
interest disputes with the private interests of certain individuals. How can one justify
such altruism based upon utilitarian rules and regulations? Often, it is possible for an
act to give a maximum amount of quantifiable contentment for a few individuals at
the cost of a minimum amount of quantifiable sadness for others. Let s suppose, for
instance, we have a very small, but significant number of vagrant children that could
be helped by implementing a small tax on every individual in Cincinnati. A utilitarian
would not be able to give ground for implementing that tax, until and unless it could

BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The species information about these butterflies are that they re a large orange butterfly
that flies with its wings like a v shape while the wings have dark prominent veins and
two rows with of white spots at the edges with a dark body. Males tend to have
bigger wingspread ranges, the average would about 3.4 to 4 inches, than females and

of white, yellow and black transverse bands, as the tentacles start to grow. The third

On Friday, April 17, I saw Miami s production of Avenue Qdirected by Ms. Saffron

The satirical songs help to address the realities of life, social issues that plague
society, and makes digs at adolescent pains. As a straight production addressing
sensitive issues such as racism would be hard to do, but with the puppets singing
about such issues it s not as uncomfortable and it s a little cartoonish. For example,
in the song Everyone s a Little Bit Racist (Dusing, p. 5) where racism is satire. The
song points out the fact that everyone makes judgements based on a person s race. It
s a truth that is hard to comprehend but everybody is in fact a little racist because
they have unconscious biases towards races. Furthermore, the songs are sung when
the characters are feeling emotional or addressing a political issue. Often the move
towards the center and the have a spotlight focused on them. The songs are catchy
and funny but afterwards the words of the song resonates with you. In addition, the
songs allows the audience to sympathize with what the characters are going through.
Overall, the twenty plus songs help to develop the story. They are not merely to

Ouija Board An Unexpected Way To Reach The Afterlife

Have you seen an Ouija board before? Have you tried working with it?

many experienced psychic mediums think of using it in their reading session; even
some may feel nervous with this idea.
Rightfully so, Ouija is not something that you can take lightly. Indeed, it MUST be

Human Gait Essay
Abstract ABSTRACT One of the main goals of computer vision research is to
develop methods for recognition of objects and events. A subclass of these problems
is the recognition of humans and their activities. Recognition of humans from
arbitrary viewpoints is an important requirement for different applications such as
intelligent environments, surveillance and access control. Human gait is an attractive
modality for recognizing people at a distance. Human gait is a spatio temporal
phenomenon that characterizes the motion characteristics of an individual. There is
an increased interest in gait as a biometric, mainly due to its nonintrusive as well as
non concealable nature. It is possible to detect and measure gait even in low... Show

The goal of gait recognition research is to determine how that information can be
extracted from images. The fact that each person seems to have a distinctive
(idiosyncratic) way of walking is hardly surprising from a biomechanics standpoint.
Human ambulation consists of synchronized integrated movements of hundreds of
muscles and joints in the body. Although these movements follow the same basic
pattern for all humans, they seem to vary from one individual to another in certain
details such as their relative timing and magnitudes. Much research in
biomechanics and clinical gait analysis (among others) is devoted to the study of
the inter person and intra person variability of gait (albeit not for the purpose of
recognition, but rather to determine normal vs. pathological ranges of 3
Introduction variation). The major sources of inter person variability are attributed
to physical makeup, such as body mass and lengths of limbs, while the sources for
intra person variability are things like walking surface, footwear, mood and fatigue.
Nonetheless, the gait of any one individual is known to be fairly repeatable when
walking under the same conditions. This intra person consistency and inter person
variability are what makes gait suitable (desirable) for use as a biometric. In this
proposal, we present a gait recognition technique which takes a motionbased
recognition approach, and use correspondence free

The next famous French chef that greatly changed this great cuisine is Marie Antoine

of his name sake s actions(Olguta). Being one of 15 kids he had to fend for himself
at a very early age. Having been kicked out of his house, Antonin roamed the streets
of Paris until a tavern keeper offered him lodging and work. That is how he got his

Three of the greatest empire in the history the ottomans in turkey, the Safavids in
Persia and the Mughals in the Indian subcontinent emerged in the Muslim world
between the 14th and the 18th centuries. These three greatest empire resulted in a
powerful cultural interaction. The empires expanded their power and thus Turkish,

Roger Chillingworth Scarlet Letter Quotes
Scarlet Letter is a popular Anti Transcendentalist novel written by Nathaniel
Hawthorne in 1850. The antagonist of the Scarlet Letter, Roger Chillingworth,
pursues revenge and vengeance upon the man who stole his wife. Roger is torn
apart by his obsession with revenge and hatred, and is seen as the false hero of the
Scarlet Letter. Chillingworth is ultimately mentally destroyed throughout the novel.
Roger Chillingworth s appearance displays his dark, revengeful character. When
Roger is introduced, the reader can use sagacity to identify that Chillingworth is an
evil, dark character. An early description of Chillingworth follows: Again, at the first

influences many and is relevant to today s society. William Shakespeare has been an
icon of English literature, but what makes this historical figure relevant to today s
society? In some other way of another William Shakespeare acclaimed works has
made an impact on what the world is now. Although many of his works were written
a long time, Shakespeare was able to relate each of his stories and characters with the
truths about he human condition, and what is like to be a human being throughout

Analysis Of The Hiding Place By Betsie Ten Boom
The Hiding Place Betsie Ten Boom A Dutch woman, well known as Betsie Ten
Boom the daughter of a watchmaker, who is frail because anime and persecution but
enjoys making every place she goes more homely and warm, has the faith, the
serenity, and the complete conviction that the Lord is always there in every
circumstance. This faith takes Betsie and her sister through the hardships they endure
in the prisons and concentration camps where they are incarcerated. While her sister
tends to pray for their needs, Betsie prays for their enemies, whom she sees through
God s eyes the guards, everyone who mistreats them, even thanking God for the fleas
in their bunks. Her chestnut hair and elegant figure make her very graceful, but her

of God and a central part of His revealed will for caring and loving. Betsie had

piled high on my head and so far, for wonder, it had stayed (Page 39) There is
nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life

Why Did Israel Want A King
The first three kings of Israel, Saul, David and Solomon were men that had one
thing in common. Even though they had their own sets of strengths, they each
shared one weakness, disobedience to God. In this essay I will explain why Israel
wanted a king. I will give you background on each of the first three kings, their
strengths, and their disobedience to God.
During the time of Samuel, why did the people of Israel desire a king?
The Israelites first asked for a king In 1 Samuel chapter 8. Israel had been ruled over
by Judges. Judges were appointed to rule and preside over Israel before the time of
Samuel when the people of Israel fell into disfavor with God. These judges had ruled
over Israel and protected the Hebrew people. Samuel was a judge and a good leader,
but was getting older. Samuel appointed his two sons, Joel and Abijah to become
Judges over Israel in Beersheba. Joel and Abijah did not rule as Samuel did, they ...

In 1 Samuel 9:2 It states: Kish had a son named Saul, as handsome a young man as
could be found anywhere in Israel, and he was a head taller than anyone else. Saul
by all accounts was a charismatic and liked man, and the people of Israel seemed
to be smitten by him. Saul was chosen to be the first king of Israel, being anointed
by Samuel (1 Samuel 10:1) and his kingship was established after the Israelites
victory at Jabesh Gilead. Saul though was a disobedient man, as Hindson and Yates
wrote The people seemed to focus on Saul s outward appearance rather than heart.
Saul started to make foolish, disobedient, and strange decisions. Saul carried out
priesthood duties and prepared a burnt offering when he meant to prepare a peace
offering (1 Samuel 13:9) Saul was ultimately rejected by the Israelites because of his
presumptuous disobedience to God and disregard of His instructions (1 Samuel
15:23). The Lord had sought a man after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:13) and found

Standing with Standing Rock
Citizens of the U.S. must petition and call public officials to urge the Obama
administration to declare Standing Rock Indian Reservation a National Monument,
thereby halting the development of the Dakota Access Pipeline, to accomplish the
following priorities: prevent the contamination of a vital U.S. water source and its
surrounding ecosystems, stop the human rights violations and abuse at Standing
Rock, and avert the desecration of sacred native burial grounds. Stopping the pipeline
would additionally benefit the planet and all its inhabitants by assisting the transition
away from reliance on fossil fuels, and toward more sustainable energy sources, a

Another possible solution to the harmful consequences I ve outlined is organizing a
group of military veterans to camp at the reservation, and stand with the protesters in
defiance of the construction. This act by a group of national heroes would garner
both worldwide attention, and political support. Over 2,000 veterans are already
organized and poised to arrive at the several encampments, and historic and symbolic
act of reverence to the Sioux Nation is unprecedented. Perhaps this act in conjunction
with the National Monument Status would have the most impact, and could give so
much press to the issue of the pipeline that the project could be halted
Ed Keith s Journey Of A Disability
Sitting in his wheelchair, Ed Keith never thought he would lose his leg in Vietnam.
At age 19 Ed became interested in the war because of everything happening in the
world. Due to his hearing issues he was not allowed to go to the Korean war so he
was sent to Fort Bragg. He had the highest IQ of all the people there. When he went
home he went back to college and when he heard his friend died he reenlisted in
1965. Ed was a part of the Army Security Agency and then the Radio Research
Company RRC. He spent 18 months in Okinawa Japan learning to be a radio traffic
analyst, 18 months learning Chinese Mandarin and Morse Code. He signed up for
Army Special Security Operations and landed in Vietnam July 29, 1969. For the first
three days Ed was terrified.
Literary Criticism Of Candide
Voltaire had once said I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death
your right to say it. This quote itself is representative of who Voltaire was, a man
who was vocal and an activist. Born in 1694, Voltaire was set out to become a well
known writer and contributor to the Enlightenment. Voltairehad written many books,
but his most well known novel was Candide. This book was written as a satirical
response to the philosophy of complete optimism championed by scholars,
particularly Philosopher Leibniz. Throughout this novel, Voltaire utilizes the literary
genre of Bildungsromanto set a framework for criticizing Leibniz s philosophy.
Bildungsroman novels are characterized by the development of a young
person...attempting to learn the nature of the world (Hofeditz). The main rites of
passage are: birth, the teacher, love, and marriage. The main character in Voltaire s
novel, Candide, sets on a journey of finding love and gaining maturation, teaching
readers that nothing is perfect, life is worth living nonetheless (Academy). As
Bildungsroman novels begin, readers are first introduced to a character who is in
their early stages of life, still yet to understand the world. Candide s naiveness and
innocence is emphasized through depictions of a child as he listened to his teaching
with that unhesitating faith which marked his age (Voltaire, 20). As children are
often characterized as curious beings, completely new to the reality of this world,
Candide fits perfectly into the description. He is raised in this sort of safe haven,
Westphalia, isolated from the dangers of the world. Candide has no reason to distrust
anyone s teachings, causing him to attentively listen to Pangloss s teachings and
philosophy. Pangloss, playing the role of the teacher in this Bildungsroman literary
work, taught metaphysico theologo cosmolo nigology (Voltaire, 20). Pangloss
teaches the philosophy of complete optimism and that every event that occurs,
including the devastating happenings, is for the best. This teaching is engraved into
Candide s mind as he sets out on his journey of finding his love, Cunegonde. Voltaire
creates the character of Pangloss to symbolize the Enlightenment thinkers holding the

Traditional Methods Of Genetic Improvement
1. Literature review 1 . 1. Traditional methods of genetic improvement Farmers
have been making mate selection decisions for the improvement of livestock for
generations. Whilst progress was evident, it was slow until the mid 20th century,
when substantial gains in genetic improvement in both livestock and crops was
observed. A good example of this progress is the increase in milk yield of US
Holstein cattle which doubled from 6000kg per lactation in the 1960s to 1200kg per
lactation in 2000. Up to 50% of this improvement has been accredited to genetic
improvement (Dekkers and Hospital, 2002). These gains were brought about using
quantitative techniques to estimate the genetic and environmental components of
traits, as well as an improved ability to disseminate genetic material, such as
cryopreservation of semen/embryos and artificial insemination. Whilst the genetic
architecture of a trait is presumed to be complex, it is not known (Hill, 2010). Best
Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP)methodology utilises a linear mixed model to
combine phenotypic and pedigree information to calculate an individual s estimated
breeding value (EBVs), which is used as a measure of an organism s additive
genetic worth (Henderson, 1975). This technique was quickly adopted as the
standard method to calculate EBVs. Despite this success, BLUP does have
disadvantages. Without phenotypic information about an individual or it s close
relatives it is not capable of calculating EBVs. Genomic

Cinderella Effect
Fairytales tell children what they unconsciously know, that human nature is not
innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is happy and thereby
reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self (Tatar). Many
adults wish they had grown up in a fairytale family or childhood seeing this as idea,l
but in reality the fairytale family is very similar to our modern mixed families and
rings true with the pattern of abuse and change that so many children face in our
society. Audiences tend to overlook the abuse and neglect that Cinderella endures at
the hands of her evil stepmother and stepsisters and focus on the happily ever after
ending with the handsome prince and the glass slipper. However, the struggle... Show

Cinderella is an abused and neglected child by a stepparent, a term in evolutionary
psychology aptly named the Cinderella Effect (Jacobs). With the prevalence of
divorce and mixed families the story of Cinderella resonates with modern
audiences of children and grownups alike who identify with growing up in an
abusive and neglectful home or the confusing state of emotions brought on by
having more than one set of parents in a mixed family. Abuse or neglect can occur
in any family regardless of whether both biological parents are raising the children
or one biological and one stepparent are present. However, evolutionary psychology
has identified a phenomenon known as the Cinderella Effect. By the year 2000
stepfamilies outnumbered traditional families of biological parents in the United
States (Rutter). When over half of all marriages end in divorce and many of those
marriages produced children, the potential for children to be raised by one or more
stepparents in their childhood rises significantly. The Cinderella effect is the theory
that children are more likely to be abused by a stepparent than their biological parent
and the acknowledgement that sometimes the evil stepparent is not just a character in
fairy tales (Jacobs). A frightening
Women s Self-Knowledge
In her essay, What does a woman need to know? Adrienne Rich claims that women
will continue to struggle in society unless they can embrace their education and self
knowledge. For instance, Rich emphasizes that women need to learn the history of
their hardships, so they are not making the same mistakes the womanbefore them did.
Rich states that women have been going through some of the same problems for
hundreds of years, which she blames on the lack of self knowledge, education, and
ignorance on the struggles women have gone through in society. More specifically,
Rich writes, Doesn t she need a knowledge of her own history, of her much
politicized female body of the creative genius of woman of the past the skills and
crafts and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which by redefining all this women are becoming worthy of what their ancestors
fought for. In addition, Rich expresses the need for woman to find their self identity
through education and not just letting the issues in society deter them from being
able to have professions and educations just as powerful and knowledgeable as men.
More specifically ,Rich emphasized that women need to branch out and make sure
that they as women are educating not just themselves, but all women on their history
to help generations see power and self knowledge through education can help them
Were The Patriots And Loyalists Justified
In the past, while learning about the American Revolution I had always thought of
America as a united front. The war between the Patriots and Loyalists could even be
compared to the war between America and Britain. The Patriots were not justified in
abusing and expelling the Loyalists. In the actions the Patriots took against the
Loyalists, they violated their unalienable rights, these actions also allowed for history
to repeat itself through the civil war in 1861. The Patriots fought for an admirable
cause, as stated in the Declaration of Independence they believed in fighting for the
unalienable rights: that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness
(Ford.153). However, they took these unalienable rights away from the... Show more

In 1861, America entered a war within itself, the American Civil War. Both conflicts
began in a similar fashion. In both situations, a party felt like they were being muffled
by the government. In response to their feelings, both groups of rebels decided that
they could survive on their own. This caused friction within both parties and a
disconnect between the government and those who thoroughly believed in its
practice and the governed and those who believed that there was more that could be
done. While some believed that it was best to see the government through, it is
understandable to see where some might find it more appealing to demand change. It
is interesting to ponder an alternate end to the American Revolution, while an accent
might be nice, we would live in world where even the simplest necessities would be
heavily taxed and America would no longer be a safe haven for those seeking life,
love and the pursuit of happiness, like Thomas Paine stated in Common Sense This
new world hath been the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious
liberty from every part of Europe (Paine.150). Both groups of people during both
periods of war wanted the best possible outcome for America, unfortunately that was
taken too far when Patriots started abusing Loyalists and expelling them from the

  • 1. Nobel Prize Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of the Nobel Prize poses a unique set of challenges that requires a nuanced understanding of the topic and a comprehensive exploration of its multifaceted dimensions. The complexity lies not only in the vastness of the Nobel Prize's scope but also in the need to delve into the intricate details of its history, significance, controversies, and the myriad achievements of laureates. One of the primary difficulties is the need for extensive research to present a well-informed and credible narrative. The Nobel Prize spans various fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences. Each category demands a deep dive into the specificities of laureates' contributions and the societal impact of their work. This requires sifting through a plethora of sources, from academic journals to historical archives, to ensure accuracy and depth in the essay. Moreover, maintaining a balance between the technical aspects of scientific achievements and the more subjective evaluation of literature or peace efforts can be challenging. Crafting a coherent narrative that seamlessly transitions between these diverse domains while maintaining the reader's engagement is a delicate art. The task is further complicated by the ever-evolving nature of the Nobel Prize. New laureates are announced annually, and their contributions must be incorporated to keep the essay current and relevant. This necessitates constant updates and revisions, adding an extra layer of challenge to the writing process. Addressing the controversies surrounding certain Nobel Prizes, such as debates over deserving recipients or allegations of bias, adds another layer of complexity. Navigating these contentious issues requires a careful and nuanced approach, acknowledging diverse perspectives without compromising the overall coherence of the essay. In conclusion, tackling an essay on the Nobel Prize demands a combination of meticulous research, a nuanced understanding of various fields, and the ability to weave together a cohesive narrative. The process involves overcoming the challenges of staying current, handling diverse subject matter, and addressing controversies with sensitivity. However, with dedication and a thoughtful approach, one can navigate these difficulties and produce a compelling and insightful essay on this prestigious topic. Throughout the juries dilleration, one man exhibits all of the qualities of leadership. This man is juror number 8 played by Henry Fonda. Fonda not only exhibits the the 10 qualities of a leader but he uses these qualities to lead the entire juryto a vote of not guilty (Fonda Lumet, 1957). Early on in the film Fonda shows the first quality of leadership vision. Vision can be defined as the leaders ability to know what is needed and how what is needed can be achieved (book). For Fonda the entire film is him doing just that. Being that Fonda what the only one at the beginning to vote not guilty, he used his enthusiasm to bring the rest of the jurors over to his way of think. A good example of this is how he convinced juror number 9 (the old man) that there could be doubt in the witness that was an older gentleman like he was. By showing juror 9 that there were flaws in the evidence and the witnesses he was able to gain another follower. His enthusiasm for getting the ruling right is what drove him to be able to make this happen time and time again with every juror (Fonda Lumet, 1957). Next we are introduced to Fonda s leadership quality of Stability. Stability is the quality of a leader to discern emotions from fact and keep personal beliefs separate from the task at hand (book). In the film we see this when Fonda discerns that racism of another juror is not acceptable. He says to juror 6 that it s always difficult to keep personal prejudice out of a thing like this (Fonda Lumet, 1957). In this statement he is showing his own abilities to discern what prejudice is and how he is trying to keep it from influencing his decisions. The fifth quality of leadership expressed by Fonda in the film was that of Concern for Others. In this quality of leadership the leader values those they lead as fellow human beings and not just as those that are there to serve (book). The whole premise behind the film directly

The print advertisement shows the front of a businessman s body, from his nose down to his midsection. This most likely belongs in a magazine, in a place such as a doctor s office or barbershop, or whatever any day place that the average person would visit. He holds a Diet Pepsi cup in the center of the advertisement, with the intention of immediately bringing the cup attention to the reader. He blows bubbles through a straw into the beverage, overflowing the cup and making quite a mess. It is a serious, black and gray formal background. This is meant to be ironic, because a businessman does not typically partake in childish behaviors like in the picture, in such a serious, adult like atmosphere. The main message this is trying to convey is non conformity, through its ironic picture of a relatable businessman, and its Forever Young caption on the bottom right. Forever Young could also suggest that drinking Diet Pepsi can make one feel young and like a kid again and how humans have a basic necessity for having fun, which can be explained by blowing the bubbles in the drink. The non conformity message is exemplified by the contrast of the sharp, well dressed businessman, with the bubble blowing in the cup. The average day of a businessman, or simply an office worker is general, is quite lackluster and repetitive. Sitting in a cubicle typing quarterly reports and being forced

So for the first ten years of my life, my faith was not tested and had no chance of maturing. My life of ease did not incite me to seek Godor his purpose for me. God was in the background for me then. Then came some hard times. My easy life was shaken when my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was her second cancer diagnosis and more serious than the first. Real life stress and worry came crashing in on me. Was I being punished for some wrong doing? Would my mom survive? What would happen to me? I was just a kid, but I knew how serious this was. At first, I did not know where to find help and comfort. Then I remembered seeing my parents turn to prayer and the Bible especially when they had worries. Abortionbecame a crime and a sin for several reasons. This was a dangerous procedure carried out with crude methods, few antiseptics, and high mortality rates. But this alone cannot explain the resentment towards abortion. In the 1890s, doctors estimated that there were two million abortions a year in the U.S, compared to the one and a half million today. Women who are determined not to carry an unwanted pregnancy have always found some way to try to abort. All too often, they have resorted to dangerous, sometimes deadly methods, such as inserting knitting needles or coat hangers, one of the most symbolic signs of desperation of women who have risked death to end their pregnancy, into the vagina and uterus. Douching with dangerous solutions like lye or swallowing strong drugs or chemicals were also ways for mothers to abort. Not only are

Currenlty In Colombia The nation of Colombia is just beginning to wrap up a civil war between the government and the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), a guerilla revolutionary movement in the country. Its internal legitimacy has been compromised for years, but the nation has still managed to survive. A state s sources of legitimacy are both internal and external. Internal legitimacy comes from within the country, the willingness of the people to accept the government as legitimate. In fact, there is just one major guerilla group, the National Liberation Army or ELN, that the government is still having peace talks with (2). Even though these processes take time, they are a positive factor that encourages the internal legitimacy of the leadership in Colombia. However, along with this strength comes the weakness of widespread internal corruption in the government. This is another area that is slowly climbing toward improvement, but is far from perfect. There are many sources of corruption in Colombia, including (but not limited to): bureaucratic corruption, political corruption, electoral fraud, nepotism and cronyism, organized crime, and money laundering (3). The most concerning and damaging to the internal legitimacy of the nation of these sources is electoral fraud. According to Friedman, a manager s only responsibility is to the shareholders, and not society as a whole (Jennings, 111). We all agree that a manager s primary responsibility is to the company and the shareholders. We feel that the manager s role is to act as an agent to conduct business in congruence with the goals set by the shareholders and laws of society, effectively making profitfor the company. What are the different social responsibilities of a business? Can a business abide by all social responsibilities at the same time? Explain. Our consensus on the social responsibilities of a business include responsibilities to the environment, the community, customers, shareholders, and employees. Such responsibilities would include, creating new wealth, and new jobs according to Michael Novak. (Jennings) We all felt that although it may be possible for a business to abide by all of these responsibilities at the same time, it is highly unlikely due to conflicts between the social responsibilities. For example, in order to make profit and charge their customers less, the business may not always be able to ensure perfect performance in regards to environmental responsibility. The fact that each person seems to have a distinctive (idiosyncratic) way of walking is hardly surprising from a biomechanics standpoint. Human ambulation consists of synchronized integrated movements of hundreds of muscles and joints in the body. Although these movements follow the same basic pattern for all humans, they seem to vary from one individual to another in certain details such as their relative timing and magnitudes. Much research in biomechanics and clinical gait analysis (among others) is devoted to the study of the inter person and intra person variability of gait (albeit not for the purpose of recognition, but rather to determine normal vs. pathological ranges of 3 Introduction variation). The major sources of inter person variability are attributed to physical makeup, such as body mass and lengths of limbs, while the sources for intra person variability are things like walking surface, footwear, mood and fatigue. Nonetheless, the gait of any one individual is known to be fairly repeatable when walking under the same conditions. This intra person consistency and inter person variability are what makes gait suitable (desirable) for use as a biometric. • 43. Why Did Israel Want A King The first three kings of Israel, Saul, David and Solomon were men that had one thing in common. Even though they had their own sets of strengths, they each shared one weakness, disobedience to God. In this essay I will explain why Israel wanted a king. I will give you background on each of the first three kings, their strengths, and their disobedience to God. During the time of Samuel, why did the people of Israel desire a king? The Israelites first asked for a king In 1 Samuel chapter 8. Israel had been ruled over by Judges. Judges were appointed to rule and preside over Israel before the time of Samuel when the people of Israel fell into disfavor with God. These judges had ruled over Israel and protected the Hebrew people. Samuel was a judge and a good leader, but was getting older. Saul by all accounts was a charismatic and liked man, and the people of Israel seemed to be smitten by him. Saul was chosen to be the first king of Israel, being anointed by Samuel (1 Samuel 10:1) and his kingship was established after the Israelites victory at Jabesh Gilead. Saul though was a disobedient man, as Hindson and Yates wrote The people seemed to focus on Saul s outward appearance rather than heart. Saul started to make foolish, disobedient, and strange decisions. Saul carried out priesthood duties and prepared a burnt offering when he meant to prepare a peace offering (1 Samuel 13:9) Saul was ultimately rejected by the Israelites because of his presumptuous disobedience to God and disregard of His instructions (1 Samuel 15:23). The Lord had sought a man after His own heart (1 Samuel 13:13) and found that man in

Over 2,000 veterans are already organized and poised to arrive at the several encampments, and historic and symbolic act of reverence to the Sioux Nation is unprecedented. Perhaps this act in conjunction with the National Monument Status would have the most impact, and could give so much press to the issue of the pipeline that the project could be halted

  • 46. Literary Criticism Of Candide Voltaire had once said I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. This quote itself is representative of who Voltaire was, a man who was vocal and an activist. Born in 1694, Voltaire was set out to become a well known writer and contributor to the Enlightenment. Voltairehad written many books, but his most well known novel was Candide. This book was written as a satirical response to the philosophy of complete optimism championed by scholars, particularly Philosopher Leibniz. Throughout this novel, Voltaire utilizes the literary genre of Bildungsromanto set a framework for criticizing Leibniz s philosophy. Bildungsroman novels are characterized by the development of a young person...attempting to learn the nature of the world (Hofeditz). The main rites of passage are: birth, the teacher, love, and marriage. The main character in Voltaire s novel, Candide, sets on a journey of finding love and gaining maturation, teaching readers that nothing is perfect, life is worth living nonetheless (Academy). As Bildungsroman novels begin, readers are first introduced to a character who is in their early stages of life, still yet to understand the world. Candide s naiveness and innocence is emphasized through depictions of a child as he listened to his teaching with that unhesitating faith which marked his age (Voltaire, 20). As children are often characterized as curious beings, completely new to the reality of this world, Candide fits perfectly into the description. He is raised in this sort of safe haven, Westphalia, isolated from the dangers of the world. Candide has no reason to distrust anyone s teachings, causing him to attentively listen to Pangloss s teachings and philosophy. Pangloss, playing the role of the teacher in this Bildungsroman literary work, taught metaphysico theologo cosmolo nigology (Voltaire, 20). Pangloss teaches the philosophy of complete optimism and that every event that occurs, including the devastating happenings, is for the best. This teaching is engraved into Candide s mind as he sets out on his journey of finding his love, Cunegonde. Voltaire creates the character of Pangloss to symbolize the Enlightenment thinkers holding the same
  • 47. Traditional Methods Of Genetic Improvement 1. Literature review 1 . 1. Traditional methods of genetic improvement Farmers have been making mate selection decisions for the improvement of livestock for generations. Whilst progress was evident, it was slow until the mid 20th century, when substantial gains in genetic improvement in both livestock and crops was observed. A good example of this progress is the increase in milk yield of US Holstein cattle which doubled from 6000kg per lactation in the 1960s to 1200kg per lactation in 2000. Up to 50% of this improvement has been accredited to genetic improvement (Dekkers and Hospital, 2002). These gains were brought about using quantitative techniques to estimate the genetic and environmental components of traits, as well as an improved ability to disseminate genetic material, such as cryopreservation of semen/embryos and artificial insemination. Whilst the genetic architecture of a trait is presumed to be complex, it is not known (Hill, 2010). Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (BLUP)methodology utilises a linear mixed model to combine phenotypic and pedigree information to calculate an individual s estimated breeding value (EBVs), which is used as a measure of an organism s additive genetic worth (Henderson, 1975). This technique was quickly adopted as the standard method to calculate EBVs. Despite this success, BLUP does have disadvantages. Without phenotypic information about an individual or it s close relatives it is not capable of calculating EBVs. Genomic

  • 49. Cinderella Effect Fairytales tell children what they unconsciously know, that human nature is not innately good, that conflict is real, that life is harsh before it is happy and thereby reassure them about their own fears and their own sense of self (Tatar). Many adults wish they had grown up in a fairytale family or childhood seeing this as idea,l but in reality the fairytale family is very similar to our modern mixed families and rings true with the pattern of abuse and change that so many children face in our society. Audiences tend to overlook the abuse and neglect that Cinderella endures at the hands of her evil stepmother and stepsisters and focus on the happily ever after ending with the handsome prince and the glass slipper. However, the struggle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cinderella is an abused and neglected child by a stepparent, a term in evolutionary psychology aptly named the Cinderella Effect (Jacobs). With the prevalence of divorce and mixed families the story of Cinderella resonates with modern audiences of children and grownups alike who identify with growing up in an abusive and neglectful home or the confusing state of emotions brought on by having more than one set of parents in a mixed family. Abuse or neglect can occur in any family regardless of whether both biological parents are raising the children or one biological and one stepparent are present. However, evolutionary psychology has identified a phenomenon known as the Cinderella Effect. By the year 2000 stepfamilies outnumbered traditional families of biological parents in the United States (Rutter). When over half of all marriages end in divorce and many of those marriages produced children, the potential for children to be raised by one or more stepparents in their childhood rises significantly. The Cinderella effect is the theory that children are more likely to be abused by a stepparent than their biological parent and the acknowledgement that sometimes the evil stepparent is not just a character in fairy tales (Jacobs). A frightening

For instance, Rich emphasizes that women need to learn the history of their hardships, so they are not making the same mistakes the womanbefore them did. Rich states that women have been going through some of the same problems for hundreds of years, which she blames on the lack of self knowledge, education, and ignorance on the struggles women have gone through in society. • 51. Were The Patriots And Loyalists Justified In the past, while learning about the American Revolution I had always thought of America as a united front. The war between the Patriots and Loyalists could even be compared to the war between America and Britain. The Patriots were not justified in abusing and expelling the Loyalists. In the actions the Patriots took against the Loyalists, they violated their unalienable rights, these actions also allowed for history to repeat itself through the civil war in 1861. The Patriots fought for an admirable cause, as stated in the Declaration of Independence they believed in fighting for the unalienable rights: that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (Ford.153). However, they took these unalienable rights away from the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1861, America entered a war within itself, the American Civil War. Both conflicts began in a similar fashion. In both situations, a party felt like they were being muffled by the government. In response to their feelings, both groups of rebels decided that they could survive on their own. This caused friction within both parties and a disconnect between the government and those who thoroughly believed in its practice and the governed and those who believed that there was more that could be done. While some believed that it was best to see the government through, it is understandable to see where some might find it more appealing to demand change. It is interesting to ponder an alternate end to the American Revolution, while an accent might be nice, we would live in world where even the simplest necessities would be heavily taxed and America would no longer be a safe haven for those seeking life, love and the pursuit of happiness, like Thomas Paine stated in Common Sense This new world hath been the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty from every part of Europe (Paine.150). Both groups of people during both periods of war wanted the best possible outcome for America, unfortunately that was taken too far when Patriots started abusing Loyalists and expelling them from the
