Analyse the contents page from NME (Dizzee rascal edition)
Fonts; The content page uses different types
of fonts to attract and draw the audience in
to different parts of the magazine, making
each text important.
Masthead; Title stands
out at the top of the
page and matches the
front cover masthead.
The words ‘NME’ are
bold and in red,
attracting the audiences’
eye. It also used to
brand the magazine.
Rule of thirds; the
magazine contents page
uses a typical rule of
thirds but the columns
are uneven, making the
middle column seem
more important as it is
bigger, making the article
stand out. The article
seems to be written by
the editor which is like an
editorial.
Layout; the layout is busy and there is
hardly any space. The contents page is
full of images and text which intrigues the
audience as it looks appealing.
Main title; the words
‘contents’ clearly
indicates that this
magazine is the
contents page, which
informs the audience
and so they
understand what they
are reading.
Main Image; the image
is a wide shot and the
model is using direct
address and is pointing
to the bus, making the
audience’s eyes move
from the model to the
bus. Her position
shows that the
magazine is informal
and friendly. The mise-en
scene links to the
article as it is a tour
bus. There is also a
boarder around the
picture to make it
stand out.
Page numbers; these
clearly indicate what is
going to be in the
magazine and will
appeal to the audience
as they will want to
know what is inside the
magazine.
Sub-headings; these give
information about the main cover
lines and will give more information
about the magazine. Subsequently,
making the target audience want to
read on.
Article; The main front
article uses colloquial
language to make the
magazine appeal to its
target audience, which
are teenagers. It also
makes the magazine
seem friendly and
relatable.
Grab quotes; these draw
the reader in by standing
out of the page and
making them seem
important by putting
them in bold and making
big font.
Date/issue number; this matches the front
cover of the magazine and makes the audience
understand when the magazine was issue so
that they can know when these articles in the
magazine were relevant.
