Fashion design is a form of art dedicated to the creation of clothing and other lifestyle accessories. Modern fashion design is divided into two basic categories: haute couture and ready-to-wear. The haute couture collection is dedicated to certain customers and is custom sized to fit these customers exactly. In order to qualify as a haute couture house, a designer has to be part of the Syndical Chamber for Haute Couture and show a new collection twice a year presenting a minimum of 35 different outfits each time.
Ready-to-wear collections are standard sized, not custom made, so they are more suitable for large production runs. They are also split into two categories: designer/createur and confection collections. Designer collections have a higher quality and finish as well as an unique design. They often represent a certain philosophy and are created to make a statement rather than for sale. Both ready-to-wear and haute-couture collections are presented on international catwalks.

Fashion draping is an important technique in fashion design that has been used since the 18th century. It involves positioning and pinning fabric on a dress form to develop the structure of a garment without relying on pre-existing patterns. Designers must consider the characteristics of different fabrics to select the most appropriate for the garment's flow and lines. The draping process interprets designs in 3D to create functional clothing through skillfully shaping and molding fabric on dress forms.

Nepal has a wide range of elevations and terrain that contribute to its natural diversity. It can be divided into three physical zones - the lowland Terai region, the midland Mahabharat Range, and the highland northern region. This varied landscape supports a rich variety of animal species, with over 10% of the world's known bird species and mammals such as Bengal tigers, rhinoceros, snow leopards, and red pandas. However, habitat loss and poaching have caused population declines and even extinction of some species like the pygmy hog and hispid hare.

In today’s competitive fashion world fashion design is a very important element for fashion marketing. Shape, silhouette, and style—these words capture the essence of apparel design. Decisions about shape, silhouette, and style guide the design development process. Designers and merchandisers give careful consideration to these fundamentals for even the most basic garments.
The document discusses how computers have changed the fashion design process. Before computers, designers did all sketches, patterns, invoices, and communication by hand, which took hours or months. Now, computers allow designers to sketch digitally, change designs quickly, and create perfect patterns free of human error. Computers also facilitate fast communication with manufacturers overseas. While hand sketching is still commonly used, computer pattern making is becoming more prevalent in large companies to save time. In the future, computer aided design may replace some hand work, but handwork will still be important for the unique human aspect of design.

This document is a project report submitted by Simran Nanikwani, a second year student of fashion design, towards her diploma. The report covers various topics related to foundation design principles including elements of design such as line, shape, color, and texture. It also discusses principles of design like balance, proportion, rhythm and harmony. The report provides examples and explanations of how to apply these principles and elements when developing fashion designs. It received a positive review from the principal of Dezyne E'cole college.
Color, texture, shape, proportion, line, balance, unity, rhythm, emphasis, and scale are the key principles of fashion design. Color is the first thing noticed and helps establish mood. Texture provides information about materials. Shape and proportion create the overall silhouette. Line guides the eye through a design. Balance and unity ensure all elements work cohesively. Rhythm creates movement. Emphasis draws focus to specific areas. Scale relates sizes of elements to each other and the body. Together these principles underpin successful garment design.

Practical eLearning Makeovers for EveryoneBianca Woods
Welcome to Practical eLearning Makeovers for Everyone. In this presentation, we’ll take a look at a bunch of easy-to-use visual design tips and tricks. And we’ll do this by using them to spruce up some eLearning screens that are in dire need of a new look.
3. • Fashion, as we know it, is a relatively new concept . In ancient and
medieval times, clothing styles remained practically unchanged for
a centaury at a time. Fashion change began to accelerate during the
Renaissance, as Western civilization discovered different cultures,
customs, and costumes. As new fabrics and ideas became available,
people craved more new things. The pace of fashion change has
continued to increase.
4. • Dresses and suits were individually sewn by dressmakers or tailors
to their employers' specifications. The identities of personal
dressmakers were secrets guarded by the wealthy. No one wanted
to share the talents of clever dressmakers for fear or losing them
RoseBertin , dressmaker to Queen Marie Antoinette was known
only because she was made the official court minister of fashion.
6. • Elsa Schiaparelli(Ska-pa-rell’-
ee) was the trendsetter of
European fashion in the 1930s.
Schiaparelli moved the center
of interest to the shoulders,
which she began to widen,
accentuating them by pleats,
padding, or braid, a silhouette
that remained popular
through World War II.
8. • Christian Dior (Chris-tee-ahn Dec-
or) showed his first collection in
1947 and was an instant success.
In a reaction against the wartime
silhouette, women adopted this
New Look, with longer, flare
skirts; smooth, rounded, sloping
shoulders; and tiny fitted waists.
Within a few seasons, Dior’s
name became a household word,
and he was doing as much
business as the rest of the
couture combined.
10. ILLUSTRATION
Illustration is a base of fashion designing before manufacturing a costume or an accessory the first thing a fashion
designer prefers to see a visual picture is what to be created.
This is very necessary to get an idea on how it will look on models when they wear it in a fashion show. Mean of
fashion illustration the fashion designers can make change to the ideas and create new ones.
To express a idea of design it must be knowledgeable towards expressing on paper.
The designer’s wants to make any alteration to his/her creation then the illustration provides that flexibility.
Illustration helps me in expressing my idea or design through sketch. These are some of my illustration work which
I’m showing below.
11. HEAD THEORIES

on it.
There are following different head theories with their illustrations.

31. Colours play a vital role in our every day's life. Some colours make us happy, and some sad or depressed. Colours is one of the most
significant aspect in fabric first thing notice about clothes is their colour. More people react more to colour. Colour in a costume
should be so distributed that they balance each other. So, as being the fashion designer the for most thing to keep into the mind is
colour. I learnt all those thing about colours i.e. principle of designs, elements of design. In colour wheel we will see primary colours
poster red, chrome yellow, cobalt blue it is also called mother colours. There are many colour scheme that are work well. As a fashion
designer all those things that are necessary to complete our designing.
ELEMENTS OF DESIGN
LINE – A line is a series of connecting points. It is the simple design element.
All lines have
1. Direction
2. Length
3. Width

37. COLOUR PRISM
When white light passes through a prism, it breaks into seven colours – violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow,
orange and red. These are the colours of the spectrum. Objects appear coloured because their surfaces
absorb the other six colours.
Example:- If we see a green object, the surface of that object absorbs violet, indigo, blue, yellow, orange
and red colours and reflects back green colour.
39. To divide the colours and how these are formed from which one David
Brewster devised a colour wheel..
In the following colour wheel, Poster red, Chrome yellow, cobalt blue are
parent colours.
COLOUR WHEEL
42. A colour scheme when we use the tints, tones and shades of any one colour to design anything. This
colour scheme tends to make a person appear tall if the person’s height is short.
MONOCHROMATIC COLOUR SCHEME
44. ACCENTED NEUTRAL COLOUR SCHEME
In a colour scheme when we use combination of black white grey and brown along with one
bright colour like red, orange, blue etc, is accented neutral colour scheme.
45. SINGLE COMPLIMENTARY COLOUR SCHEME
When we select one colour from the colour wheel with a colour opposite to it in its
complement is single complementary colour scheme.
48. PRINCIPLE OF DESIGN
Elements of design are organized according to principle of design to create a good
design or composition.
Following are the principles of design:
1. Repetition: Repetition is the using a shape or motif again and again in a dress
forming a pattern or a repetition of pleats, tucks, etc.
2. Gradation: Using a shape or motif in different sizes is gradation. Sometimes
repetition and gradation goes together.
3. Proportion: Proportion is the way all parts in a design relate to each other so
that a person looks tall slim and more youthful.
4. Contrast: The principle of contrast can be used in small amount on the dresses
instead of more. More contrast in a dress is disturbing. Contrast can be created
through colours, textures, pattern, line, shape, etc.
5. Harmony: If pattern is geometric neckline should also be geometric is the
principle of design called harmony. The design is creating a feeling of
consistency.
6. Rhythm: It is organized motion and it is a feature of a design because of which
the eye moves on the garment. Rhythm is of three types, regular, graded,
random rhythm.
7. Balance: Balance occur when the visual weight of different parts of a design are
equally distributed as to create equilibrium.
8. Dominance: it is the powerful effect of any object applied on the garment.
9. Radiation: It is the outward movement in all directions from a center point.. The
placement of any radiating element should be carefully handled or else it can
produce negative effect.
10. Unity: The most important principle of design. It is considered last because it is
the culmination of the design process the final step which can only be completed
when all the other principles and elements have been dealt with.
49. TEXTURE – Texture is surface quality of an objects is of three types.
• Visual
• Tactile
• Audible
Feel of the surface is the texture. We see textures according to colour and weaving.
Texture is quality of a surface. It is of following three types:
1. Visual: light falling on the surface creates shadows, highlights, on a knitted
surface. Cloth appears transparent when light passes through it and appears
opaque when light cannot pass through it. Surface treatment like printing,
embroidery, smoking applique and quilting are all visual texture.
2. Tactile: Changes in fabric through arrangement of threads in weaving and
knitting can be felt on skin here coarseness, softness and crisped by feel of
hand on fabric is seen.
3. Audible: Through friction when the fabrics rub over each other, a sound can be
heard. The crisp rustle of silk.
There are following visual effects of texture:
1. Coarse and bulky fabric textures have an enlarging effect.
2. Bold checks, wide wales on corduroy, thick pile of fur and fluffy surface conceal
body contours and make the figure look larger.
3. Large and bold textures overpowers the small garments or trims for which they
are used.
4. Light weight fabrics with good drape like, satin, crape are mere recently as the
cling to the body.
5. Light stiff fabrics such as taffeta, organza take on their form because they stand
away from the body and are good for creating dramatic silhouettes.
6. Dull textures are slimming because they absorb light smooth, shiny surface like
satin seen to advance and make the body look large.
7. Plain surface require more construction and trimming to add interest in any
design.
50.
51.
52. The history of fabric decoration takes us to the prehistoric times. Felting,
knotting, braiding, were the very first techniques of decoration used by a man
followed by applique, embroidery, interlacing to weave, and resist dyeing.
Various creative technique of fabric artistry like applique work, metal thread
work, mirror work, smocking.
Embroidery is the embellishment of fabric enriching it with a needle and
thread. It has also been referred to as “painting with the needle”.
Some embroidery stitches undoubtedly have their foundation in early textile,
basketry, mat-making and weaving others have developed from early sewing
where stitches were used for joining pieces of fabric or skins together for
specific ornamental purposes.
Embroidery is the hand craft of decorating fabric or other materials with
needle and thread or yarn. Embroidery may also incorporate other materials
such as metal strips, pearls, beads, quills, and sequins.
EMBROIDERIES
60. PATTERN ENGINEERING
A fashion designer is nothing without knowing about patterns. Its easy to illustrate the ideas on a paper but
when it comes to make that design wearable the difficult part starts. So a fashion designer needs to learn
pattern engineering to convert a design into reality. Under the coarse of one year I’ve learned basic
women’s garments and created the samples of paper patterns and garments.
62. Women’s Basic Bodice Block
A bodice, is an article of clothing for women covering
the body from neck to the waist. A bodice indicates
the upper part of a dress. This construction was
standard for fashionable garments from 18th century
until the late19th century.
