This project has assigned to me during my 2nd year in fashion design diploma NSQF Level -6
NSDC. In this project I learned about design basic and fashion market to achieve the needs and
desire of my client . also learned about surface designing and garment construction which are an
important aspect to create own collection.
After learning about all these topics which are important in field of fashion designing , I worked
upon my own collection where I have given a case study in which I need to design a collection for a
young girl in which I designed 4 dresses for the young girl and created one in reality out of four.

A collection is a range of garments, accessories
or products that are designed and produced for
sale to retailers or direct to customers. This
range of pieces may be inspired by a trend,
theme or design direction reflecting cultural
and social influences, and it is usually
designed for a season or particular occasion.
A collection is a grouping of outfit or looks
that are presented in a variety of ways , from
catwalk presentations to online web pages .
Collections are usually constructed from a
combination of silhouettes, colours and fabrics
with the emphasis varying depending on the
designer’s particular aesthetic.
A collection is made after enormous
amount of research , investigastion and
planning. i.e., understanding of our
costumers needs as well as understanding
their position in a highly competitive
market . In addition to the creation and
realization of any collection, there are a
range of issues that need to be
considered if the finals are to hang in
customers wardrobes.

Design a range of 4 design for a young girl of age 15 to 25 years. The design should be in kind and
garments created must have use of various elements and textures.
You are required to produce 4 design in full colour and all design should be illustrated as working
drawing.
Consideration should be given to design including construction as well as surface interest of 3-
dimensional garment (Show back and front views- obligatory, and side views if necessary .
Develop your design ideas with consideration of media use and present the ideas for your portfolio
they may be in any shape or design as long as they fit into on A-4 portfolio and should be created
using the various media like photoshop, coral draw and illustrator.

I am Gracika benjamin student of fashion designing and I am in my 2nd year. After completing 1st
year and getting all the basic knowledge we have given a case study to solve .
In which I have to design four dresses for a young girl of age 20 years.
This age group of girls is most likely to be picky and moody in making choices and that makes it
difficult to design for them.
So I have to start with brainstorming and designing 20 designs to 30 designs so that it will be easier
for my client to make her choice.
OBSERVATION:-
In the market there are multiple young girls who mostly prefer latest fashion i.e. upto date and
contemporary .
They get easily attracted towards their favorite celeb or actor fashion through media.

My client is 20 year old pretty girl who is a
cheerful , energetic , and charming and is a
college student . She wants a dress to be
designed for her that she wants to wear on
occasion like party .
She want her dress to be easy wearable , so
that she can be comfortable while walking
around in that dress.
In market there are multiple young girls who
will like to look forward to my collection
As i have made observation according to the
latest fashion trend . .

After analyzing the clients need and keeping the occasion she is wearing her dress in mind . I have
done market research .
In order to gain an understanding of current fashion stock and ranges across market levels
And to know the quality of fabric, detailing ( print, silhouette ) and construction carefully studied
alongside prices and origin of manufacture.
This provided me a great deal of information to make decision that were based on a combination
of the following :
*Shapes and fabric
*Trims that can be used
*Embroideries
*Fashion Prints.

After analyzing my client I choose mass market as this market has wide range of clothing and
varieties Mass market is a market for goods produced on a large scale for a group of significant
number of end consumers. Mass market is the opposite of the term niche market in that the first
focuses on consumers with a wide variety of backgrounds with no identifiable preferences and
expectations in a large market segment.

I Gave my collection name
“ENCHANTED”
As this word has a beautiful meaning
within it.
It means affected by magic or

Synopsis
This project has been created to learn Pattern Engineering . In this Project
I learned how a 2D fabric help in making a 3D fit garment , Orbito Pattern
Designer and many more. This project was created under the Guidance of
Mrs. Priyanka Saxena. I’m heartily Thankful of all the faculty members of
D’e’cole college for their continuous support and guidance during this
project.

What is Pattern Engineering ??
Pattern engineering is the technique of working with a 2D medium (i.e. paper or fabric) to
develop blocks (using either body or garment measurements) which will assist in making
garments to drape a 3D body to achieve the desired fit with optimum utilization of resources.
A pattern is a map! Can you imagine a bad map that will require you to ask for clarifications
on every turn? You may never get to your destination or if you finally do get there, it may be
too late. And like landmarks for turns and stops on maps, an engineered pattern should have
the correct notches, drill holes for placements of pockets, and engineered seams with proper
corners etc. that reflect instructions graders, marker makers, spreaders, cutters and sewers
are supposed to follow.
It is extremely important to STANDARDIZE the process and the instructions that go along
with it. It's also important to train all the readers and users of this 'map' to read the same
information in the map that was put in there by the maker. And standardization along with
organization-wide training adds tremendously to the reduction of errors and increase in
efficiency. The key components influencing pattern engineering is as follows:

• Garment assembling techniques
• End use.
