The Feminist Short Story Of The Great Beacons
My dear reader, you live in a universe that is replete with adventures of the unknown, mysteries
of the forgotten and falsehoods of the truth. Yet, those are all lesser tales which shall remain
untold for now. The story in which you are about to delve into is far grander than any of the
former. It is possibly the truest legend that I have collected. It has taken me several years to find
each piece in this intricate tale. I had to venture to the very darkest corners if this world, which,
mind you, are difficult to find and flagitious creatures dwell within. Other parts of the story,
however, were easy to come across, and the furthest I had to go was to the ancient maple tree at the
end of the lane. I realize that you may be curious of my identity,... Show more content on

It smelled like human waste and rotten flesh. There were stains of dried blood on nearly every
surface, and most appalling, on a pair of shackles, somewhat hidden in the corner by a frail,
broken body. Her frame was naturally petite, but now she was all sallow skin and protruding
bones. She probably weighed about fifty pounds. Her skin was pallid, and nearly translucent.
Her face was gaunt, and her once exquisite ebony locks were colorless from malnutrition. The
only evidence that she was indeed alive, were her vitreous gasps for breath, and her large grey
eyes. Her eyes were filled with a terror I can scarce describe. Aside from the terror, deep in her
eyes was also a great suffering, one that only intensified when she saw the bars of her cell clang
open. Her name was Violet, quite fittingly, for she was as delicate as her namesake, both in
appearance, and temperament. She had been detained for nearly a full pass of the moon, facing
abhorrent treatment. She had been starved, tortured, violated, and ridiculed by an all but venomous
mob of piss drunk men. The same men who had once protected her, even befriended her. Betrayal,
that devastating mistress, was her only friend now. The looming sentence, unjust and morbid as it
may be, was almost a relief, rather than a quite literal sword hanging over her

Comparing The Persistence Of Memory And The Great Day Of...
The Persistence of Memory, A Trip to the Moon, and The Great Day of His Wrath, all share
scientific context concerning theories that are still being debated today. In addition, each artist
created an interpretation of the scientific theories, whether they purposely made the work of art
in the inspiration of the scientific theories or it was suggested by a large number of viewers who
saw the art. Each work art demonstrates ideal and fantastical versions of these theories in
dreamlike or nightmare ways. For example, in all three artworks, the artists demonstrate the
idealism of the parallel universes they create while also creating the darker side of the fantasies. In

They include fantasy properties by encompassing science with the improbable. For example in
Dali s The Persistence of Memory, he paints realistic, everyday objects in a strange pattern in an
unusual landscape, for example, it is improbable that clocks would be melting, and in a desert.
But the idea of time dilation is a probability, so Dali uses the improbable to explain the probable.
This is the same for A Trip to the Moon. Humans have always questioned the existence of
extraterrestrial forms. In MГ©liГЁs film, it is improbable that the group of astronomers would
be able to travel to space without the consideration for the lack of oxygen in space. However, as
scientists were focusing only on the survival in space and the transportation there, MГ©liГЁs
focuses on the astronauts adventure on the moon. He ignores the probable and approaches the
existence of extraterrestrial life in a fantastical way by interacting the astronauts and the moon
dwellers. In Martin s painting, Martin envisions the apocalypse straight out of the Bible. However,
in the Book of Revelations, the only visual given is through the text. It is most closely relatable to
the text in Revelations 6. The text explores a few details in the catastrophic sight, such as
mountains falling. Martin takes this reference from the Bible and combines it with his studies of
dinosaur bones and fossils as a scientist. Martin could be combining science with the improbable in
this detail of the painting, but that depends on whether he believed God

Nature Vs Nurture As A Serial Killer
Historical Background
What causes an individual to become a serial killer? Bio psychologists believe that starting from
birth the human mind is a tabula rasa or blank slate, and the individual learns behaviors and socio
cultural norms from individuals around them. This concept of nature versus nurture was based
upon the idea that it is how you are brought up (nurture) that governs the psychologically significant
aspects of child development and the concept of maturation applies only to the biological. The
theory that explains the nature aspect of the nature versus nurture principle is called the attachment
theory, which views the bond between mother and child as being an innate process that ensures
survival. It is a biological need that has ensured the survival of many species including the human
race; because of the need to protect and be protected humans as a species has been able to endure.
It is also a psychological need to want to be cared for as well as care for others a study done by
Harry Harlow (1950s). The concept of nurture focuses mainly on the effect that the environment has
on the development of human beings and whether it is more important than nature. Several studies
have been generated to try and settle the ongoing debate of nature versus nurture.
Many psychologists agree that nurture play a greater part in the development of a human being.

those performed

Personalization In Health And Social Care Case Study
2.3 Personalization and Privacy Concern
In the rapidly developing mobile health market, MHS providers need personalized services
increasingly in order to attract customers and capture the market. Meanwhile, it will involve the
issues of users privacy inevitably, and this seems to be an adoption behavior paradox. On the one
hand, users enjoy personalized mobile health services, but on the other hand, they are reluctant to
disclose their personal information or as little as possible. To illustrate privacyconcerns and
personalization, they will be discussed in detail separately.
2.3.1 Personalization
Personalization exists in many fields, and has been defined in many references (Hagen et al.,

Users can not only improve the efficiency through applications and enjoy convenience brought by
the technology, but also can bring them to their lives, manage their health and access benefits from
the service. In this way, the mobile health user is not only a recipient of technology, but more as a
consumer. Moreover, mobile health services are based on users personal information. However, the
convenient and personalized service, inevitably, initiates users privacy concerns. Therefore,
personalization and privacy concern have moderating effects on the factors in protection
motivation, and consequently, influence the mobile health services adoption. The integrated model
is depicted as in Figure 2.1 and is expected to have great predictive

Gastner gets caught in thing that he would have never thought. He knows two things about humans
most criminals aren t as smart as they think they are and humans are highly predictable. Gastner
was suppose to have lunch with George Payton but instead he found himself racing to meet up with
an ambulance because his neighbor Dale Torrance lands on the wrong side of his horses hoofs.
Returning from the hospital Gastner learns that Payton was found dead by his son in law after only

There was no room for mistakes but now since he was being sent to the hospital he called
Gabaldon and asked him to dump the poison on the other side of the border so that no one could
find a trace of it on him. Gabaldon had remembered that he had to be at work on time because he
had important business to take care of. So he hid the truck and the trailer and went the work.
Apparently somewhere along the way some had stolen the truck and the cattle were released.
Eventually the poison made it to the other side the border but not the way they intended it to.
Sheriff Guzman found the poison in the truck and locked up Dale Torrance and Pat Gabaldon for
murder.
Red, Green, or Murder The arthur choice the title for this novel because it describes the struggle.
This story relates more to his own life. The struggle the Sheriff and Gastern had in solving the
case is the same struggle he had. His wife was going through a disease and they couldn t find a
cure. The color red stands for how he thought he was in the red zone. He couldn t figure out the
case and for some reason it was hard for him. The color green means that he was getting his
confidence back and he started believing he could figure it out. Murder stands of how they
worked together and they solved the case and it was a murder. Unlike the story his wife lived and
didn t die. He was very happy that he could spent the rest of his life

If the question mark does not succeed in becoming the market leader, then after perhaps years of
cash consumption it will degenerate into a dog when the market growth declines. Question marks
must be analyzed carefully in order to determine whether they are worth the investment required to
grow market share.
Stars are units with a high market share in a fast growing industry (High Market Share / High
Market Growth). The hope is that stars become the next cash cows. Sustaining the business unit s
market leadership may require extra cash, but this is worthwhile if that s what it takes for the unit
to remain a leader. When growth slows, if they have been able to maintain their category
leadership stars become cash cows, else they become dogs due to low relative market share.
As a particular industry matures and its growth slows, all business units become either cash cows or
dogs. The natural cycle for most business units is that they start as question marks, then turn into
stars. Eventually the market stops growing thus the business unit becomes a cash cow. At the end of
the cycle the cash cow turns into a dog.
The overall goal of this ranking was to help corporate analysts decide which of their business units
to fund, and how much; and which units to sell. Managers were supposed to gain perspective from
this analysis that allowed them to plan with confidence to use money generated by the cash cows to
fund the stars and, possibly, the question marks. As the

Black Political Actors, Methods And Approach
Black Political Actors
Methods and Approach Our group followed political races in Baltimore City focusing on the
Democratic races for Mayor and some city council districts. We limited our scope to six candidates.
Originally, they included former Mayor Sheila Dixon, State Senator Catherine Pugh, attorney
Elizabeth Embry, businessman David Warnock, City Councilmember Nicholas Mosby, and City
Councilmember Carl Stokes. Based on a Baltimore Sun/University of Baltimore poll, these
candidates placed in the top six within a crowded field. On April 13, however, Councilmember
Mosby dropped out of the race and pledged his support to Senator Pugh. Therefore, we included the
top five remaining candidates. Criminal justice reform and the economy were the issues candidates
discussed the most on the campaign trail. Given the events of Freddie Gray s murder and the city s
high unemployment rate, the emphasis on these issues is understood. Yet, these discussions did not
complement our research. Between January 2016 and primary day, only one housing related forum
was held. This forum focused on neighborhood revitalization, but did not address renter issues. At
another general issues debate, the Right to Housing Alliance asked the mayoral candidates the first
rent court question in nearly two decades. Thus, our group did not find it surprising that the
candidates offered little policy proposals on reforms for renters. On April 26, the Democratic Party
held its primary. Senator Pugh won

There has not been safety professional at Podunk University for a year and half, leaving the
prestigious university to fend for itself in the world of safety. Since no one was actively filling this
position, the subsequent safety professional will have a lot of catching up to do. The primary focus
of the safetyprofessional will be the hazardous material and hazardous wasteissues on the campus.
While conducting the preliminary tour of the campus, it is noticed that there is a lot of issues that
are effecting safety around the campus. The biology department and the chemistry department will
need to have all chemicals inventoried to include hazardous waste. The physics department s use of
high voltage and the use of lasers in their department. The automotive technology department has
more than a few issues that will need to be addressed while developing the safety program. The
last major issue that was identified was the Massive Arena, the building is one of the oldest
buildings on campus and is currently under renovation. The problems with many older buildings is
the presents of asbestos insulations and the dangers that it presents even while being removed.
Since the focus of the safety professionals will be hazardous material and hazardous waste. The
best place to start would be develop a Hazard Communication Program. This should not be a
complicated process, since the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) provides

The Book Of Nehemiah In The Bible
In the Bible, the book of Nehemiah reveals the not so common traits of a man named Nehemiah.
Through God, Nehemiah restored the hope of the Israelites and rebuilt the wall of Jerusalem.
Because of Nehemiah s open heart and strong faith in the Lord, he was used in miraculous ways.
The story of Nehemiah starts out with a cup and a king. The Jew Nehemiah was appointed
cupbearer of the King Artaxerxes, and as Nehemiah was a man of strong faith and character, he
found favor in the king s eyes. Since the king trusted Nehemiah so much, he noticed his cupbearer s
unusual sadness one day. He asked what troubled him, and Nehemiah explained that his people (the
Jews), who had been returned to Jerusalem after seventy years of captivity, had not yet rebuilt their
walls which meant they were not safe from enemies. Although Nehemiah had not been to the city
yet, he was saddened because of the city s culture and history with God. пїј!1... Show more content

Before answering, Nehemiah said a prayer to God, and then asked for the king s permission to

more request: to have letters from the king to give to the governors of Trans Euphrates in order
to have safe conduct until he arrived in Judah; a letter to the keeper of the royal park to receive
timber for the beams of the gates, the city wall, and the place that he will stay. The king agreed to
this, and also sent army officers and cavalry with Nehemiah. God answered Nehemiah s prayers
and provided him with diligence to ask for these things and gave him favor with the

Private Prisons And Public Prisons
The Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), which is essentially the Enron of the private
prison industry, has long touted private prisons as an alternative to government owned prisons.
Indeed, CCA has set forth three reasons justifying the creation of private prisons for federal inmates:
Cost Effectiveness. Private prisons are less expensive to operate and will save the federal
government millions of dollars.
Safety. Private prisons are effectively protect inmates safety.
Humane Treatment. Private prisons are modern facilities that provide humane treatment to inmates.
Studies have shown that private prisons achieve none of these goals, and the reason is simple:
private prisons operate under a fundamentally different regulatory structure that alters the choices
and motives of its participants. Indeed, unlike their federal counterparts, private prisons operate in a
market economy where maximizing profits is vital to sustainability and thus a driving factor in
corporate decision making. Under basic economic theory, when operational costs exceed current
and future estimates, corporations must identify ways in which to reduce such costs and therefore
increase profitability. This is precisely what happened in the private prison context. Corporations
such as CCA often underestimate the cost of operating private prisons in a manner that would
increase safety and treat inmates more humanely. As a result, operators of private prisons made the
deliberate choice

Essay On Duke Ellington
Duke Ellington: 1899 1974 Edward Duke Kennedy Ellington was born April 29, 1899 in
Washington, D.C. Duke Ellington was born into a typical family with average income and
growing up, the future musician was home schooled by his parents. His father James Edward
Ellington and mother Daisy Kennedy Ellington were both pianist. His father played operatic arias
while parlor songs were his mother s first choice. It is an interesting fact that Duke is not actually
Ellington s name, but it is only his nickname, which children gave him when he was a little boy for
his aristocratic manners and the ability to dress elegant things. When Duke was seven years old, he

Ellington s band thrived and played all throughout Washington and Virginia, usually playing for
embassy and private parties. His band included Sonny Greer on drums, his childhood friend Otto
Hardwick on alto saxophone, Elmer Snowden on banjo and Arthur Whetsol on trumpet. The group
performed for both African American and white audiences which was quite rare in those times.
When Ellington s drummer Sonny Greer joined the Wilber Sweatman Orchestra in New York
City, he decided to leave behind his successful career in Washington, D.C and moved to Harlem.
Shortly after his move to Harlem, in May of 1927, Andy Preer who had been leading the house
band at the Cotton Club died. In looking for a replacement, the gig went to Duke Ellington and his
men. The clubs decor was modelled after the old south of plantations and slavery, hence the name
the Cotton Club . The club was segregated, meaning only whites were allowed in the audience,
while all the waiters and entertainers were African American. What made Duke Ellington and his
Cotton Club Orchestra famous were the weekly broadcasts on radio station WHN. (Cotton) These
broadcasts were heard all over the country and gave Ellington national exposure. With the Great
Depression worsening, the recording industry too was hit by the financial crisis and that resulted
into dropping of over 90% of artist by the year 1933. (Ruhlmann) In the case of

Silver Bullion Bars Research Paper
Electricity is required to make colloidal silver that is pure, because other methods require the use of
chemicals that leave behind contaminants. Thus, the use of electricity is the only way to make
correct colloidal silver that is safe for internal usage. Anything that is added into the solution
changes it into something else. For example, the addition of salt chemically transforms colloidal
silverinto silver chloride, which is something that does not have the exceptional safety record of
colloidal silver. While silver chloride is ideal for eye drops, it is nevertheless something that should
not be used internally.
The purity of the ingredients is essential for making true colloidal silver, for impurities will

The Learning Disability of Auditory Processing Disorder
Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), also known as central auditory processing disorder
(CAPD), is a neurological defect that affects how the brain processes spoken language. It affects
about 5% of school aged children making it difficult for the child to process verbal instructions or
to cancel out background noise in the classroom. A child who has Auditory Processing Disordermay
have the same kind of behavioral problems as a child who has ADD, and also might be confused
with Autism, Asperger s, Language processing disorder, and Dyslexia. For children who suffer
from APD, the understanding of meanings, sound combination, and the categorical order of words
are mistaken. Behaviors of children who suffer from Auditory Processing Disorder may have
trouble listening, following directions, distracted by background noises, poor organization of verbal
material, oral and written expression problems, remembering what they hear, and learning to read.
If parents think that their child may have APD, they should seek help to an Audiologist. An
Audiologist is a doctor who diagnose and treats hearingand balance problems. They are trained to
diagnose, manage and treat hearing or balance problems for individuals from birth through
adulthood. The Audiologist will perform several tests on the child to determine if the child may
have APD or not. There are four types of tests, Hearing, Neurologic, Behavioral, and Dichotic. The

It is necessary to know about the variation of effects of hypoxia if any on the persons depending
on their age and sex. As the effects of hypoxia may or may not present for a long time, it is
necessary to conduct tests on the pilots regarding hypoxia for each flight or in some airlines,
they test pilots for the effects of hypoxia before each flight (Sharma L: 2007) so that necessary
medication could be given. However, according to Good W.A (1991, 104) the performance of the
pilots might be degraded with both prescribed and over the counter medications as well as by the
medical conditions for which they are taken (Good W.A; 1991, 104). Normally, the medicines of
hypoxia are sedative, tranquilizer or antihistamine. These medicines make a pilot much more
susceptible to hypoxia (Good W.A; 1991, 104) and hence it is necessary for the pilots to minimize
the use of over the counter medicines. In addition to the above precautions alcohol can impair the
pilot even many hours after its consumption and digestion due to hangover. The impairment of pilot
may cause flight accidents and some of the major accidents give ground to the argument that

In spite of what painters, archeologists, or researchers of the nineteenth century believed about the
ancient world, cuneiform has since proven its historical mettle. As displayed by Darius and his
memorial at Bisitun, the early, crude cuneiform of 5000 B.C.E. adapted itself to culture after
culture, and morphed into the dusty forerunner of our modern alphabet. The Phoenicians, the
original ancient mariners, are responsible for transforming cuneiform into a more efficient writing
system by paring down the somewhat ungainly number of 5,000 cuneiform characters into 29
characters. Adopted around 1000 B.C.E., the Phoenician alphabet was not a collection of
pictographs like many early forms of writing, but instead a close relative of many modern writing
systems.11 The sophisticated navy and extensive trade network of Phoenicia ensured that this
new version of cuneiform would quickly spread to its ancient neighbors. Phoenicia s alphabet
would soon be adopted by the Greeks, who also refined and perfected this writing system to meet
their own needs; likewise the Romans, eager inheritors of all things Greek, adopted the alphabet
for their own use. It could be said that the highly adaptive descendants of cuneiform formed the
basis for the literature of the Classical world. The Phoenician cuneiform alphabet was also adopted
by Jewish culture, providing a medium for Hebrew narrative and progressive sense of history,

sparking one of the most important events in the world, the Columbian exchange. The Columbian
exchange has shaped the world to what it is today with the exchange of goods from the Old World
to the New World, and vice versa. The Columbian exchange caused numerous short and long term
effects in the Americas and many other parts of the world. The short term effects of the Columbian
exchange included the outbreak of disease, which led to a sudden drop in the population of the
indigenous peoples. In the beginning of the sixteenth century Spanish and Portuguese... Show more

The foods that were brought back to the Old World such as, potatoes and corn proved a vital and
necessary resource to the Europeans. Another short term effect of the Columbian exchange was
the migration of African slaves to the Americas. The majority of the Africans that were enslaved
were caught in village raids or were war captives. They were caught by other Africans and sold
to the European slave traders for money and other prized possessions. For slaves, the voyage
known as the Middle Passage was a terrifying and perilous journey, with a death rate potentially
as high as 50%. The long term effects of the Columbian exchange included the swap of food,
crops, and animals between the New World and Old World, and the start of the transoceanic
trade. In order to produce a profit, Portuguese explorers were the first to established sugar cane
plantations in Brazil. They then sold this crop to the Old World where it was a popular commodity
because it provided Europeans with a sweetener for foods. In addition, European produce was
brought to the New World, including ...wheat, vines, horses, cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and
chickens... Where they sharply increased supplies of food and animal energy. This fusion of crops
between the Old and New World became fundamental in enhancing the diets and food of both
populations.

animals,

Alka Seltzer Lab
What is the Percent by Mass of NaHCO3 in Alka Seltzer Tablets?
Introduction:
The moment an Alka Seltzer tablet hits water, it begins to fizz. These tablets are over the counter
antacids and pain relief medications that contain aspirin, sodium bicarbonate, and citric acid. The
fizzing is a result of a reaction occurring where carbon dioxide (in the form of bubbles), water, and
sodium acetate is formed. The fizzing and carbon dioxide bubbles are a result of the sodium
bicarbonate splitting and reacting with the citric acid. In this experiment we are determining the
percent by mass of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) in Alka Seltzer tablets and exploring the
relationship between amounts of reactants and products.
Experimental:
First students obtained 8 graduated cylinders and labeled them. Each one contained a different ratio
of vinegar and water. These graduated cylinders with the liquid were weighed and recorded. Then,
students obtained an Alka Seltzer tablet and recorded its mass. Then one alka seltzer tablet was
dropped into each of the graduated cylinders. Students had to ... Show more content on

In this experiment, the precision of percent by mass of sodium carbonate was decent. It seemed
to be consistent, although we seemed to have an outlier in our fifth trial. I believe this was due to
human error of adding too much vinegar to this graduated cylinder. The accuracy of our results

Comparing Kudrow s Room And Bored
So, after securing roles in films such as Analyze This and Marci X in 2003, Kudrow s return to
television as a producer, writer and actress was welcomed. Appropriately titled The Comeback
was, in reality, correspondent to Kudrow s life at the time. It told a story about a star of a
sitcom who had taken a dive in ratings and was trying to make a comeback. Kudrow plays this
character named Valerie Cherish (Valarie is Kudrow s middle name) in a new comedy that
mocks her previous giddy roles. Valarie attempts to make her returning debut on a low budget
network as Aunt Sassy, a crazy and horny individual, in a comedy called Room and Bored. At the
same time, Valarie would be preceded by a reality show that displayed much of her life in detail.

Swept Away Creative Writing
Swept Away Lexie heard the bleeping of her alarm clock in the distance as she awoke from a deep

her eyes started to water. All she could see was her green and orange walls until her eyes stopped
watering. After she stood there for a few moments, she walked over to her dresser and grabbed a
shirt and some blue jeans and slipped them on. All her stuff was ready to go so she picked it all

Beowulf Compare And Contrast Essay
In the Story of Beowulf, Beowulf faces three major battles while paying his debts back to Hrothgar.
All three monsters have similarities and differences but they all have one thing in common which is
basically to hurt others. The three monsters that will be highlighted throughout this essay will be
Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the dragon. Staring off with Grendel, Grendel is this large, evil,
man eating monster that lives in the swamps below the Kingdom of Herot ruled by Hrothgar.
Grendel attacks the Kingdom every night killing innocent people who fear for their lives because
of him. Grendel is looked upon as being the antiChrist, he is evil and more comparable to as a
demon. Grendel s monster qualities such as his tough skin and appearance are apparent, but the
other qualities that are not so apparent are his human qualities. Grendel s attacks are fueled by
hatred and jealousy of other people s happiness. Grendel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an important battle because Beowulf isn t the spring chicken he used to be in the other two
battles. Beowulf has aged and gotten slower on his feet, which makes it harder for him to win
this one. this dragon is played out to be a lot stronger and better than the other monsters and he
looks even stronger now that Beowulf has gotten older. This dragon doesn t live in murky, dark
swamps like the other two, this monster lives in a cave, which seems to intensify the situation
because it s not like the other battles he s faced before. This monster symbolizes death and the
fate of Beowulf because his time has come and he knows it. During this battle, Beowulf and his
men travel to kill this third and final monster. This dragon is a lot stronger than the others, as it
breathes fire, and can destroy basically anything it wants to. Beowulf and Wiglaf are the last two
standing and both come together to defeat this monster. this battle shows the end of Beowulf s

The First Years of the Peace Corps Essay

misery, we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves, for whatever period is required,
(Kennedy 2), John F. Kennedy told an inspired crowd and an ambitious nation during his inaugural
address on January 20, 1961. The origins for his plan to establish a program to assist developing
countries originated about 4 months earlier during an early morning speech at the University of
Michigan, where, at 2 a.m., he challenged the students to contribute part of [there] life to this
country (Kennedy 1). His speech received a thunderous response and within weeks a petition in

Many African countries also received assistance, including Nigeria. The president, Nnamdi
Azikiwe, wanted to establish a four year American style university, but was having trouble
recruiting teaching staff. The Peace Corps made up a third of the staff at the university. In
1971, the Peace Corps left Nigeria. Nevertheless, the Peace Corps legacy was not forgotten, and
in 1991, an interview with Bukar Zarma, the editor and publisher of Nigeria s capital city
newspaper, stated, I was extremely motivated in science by my former Peace Corps science
teacher who had such a passion for space ( Nigerians Speak Warmly... 1). Other Nigerians stated
that the enthusiasm and dedication of the volunteers had fostered their own successes (
Nigerians Speak Warmly... 1). Clearly, the efforts of the volunteers in Nigeria helped make a
positive difference in the people s lives. Countless numbers of other countries benefited from
these programs. In Morocco, volunteers were given various activities such as irrigation projects
to teaching physical education. In addition, the Peace Corps built libraries, taught English, and
founded Kindergartens in Iran from 1962 to 1976. The programs of the Peace Corps not only
helped third world countries develop, but also provided disaster relief. In 1968, an earthquake

Aging With Grace By David Snowdon
Promoting Shalom with Older Adults Aging with Grace by David Snowdon does a fantastic job
at addressing different issues that older adults face when it comes to cognitive function.
However, Snowdon does not limit this book to just that. He conducted a research project where
he interacted with the older generation of nuns. Originally, he treated them as just test subjects
in his study of Alzheimer s disease. As his research progressed, he soon realized that he could
not just treat the nuns like lab rats. One of the younger nuns approached him and said I ll move
forward with your request, buy you need to listen carefully to what I am about to say. No matter
what you do, I want you to remember who these women are. They are real people. Very dear to
us. They are holy people, too. I don t want you to treat them as research subjects. Get to know
them. Understand that many of the older sisters were the teachers or mentors of the younger
sisters, and we treat them with the care and respect they deserve, we will expect nothing less
from you. He needed to get to know each one of them as an individual rather than part of his
experiment. He began getting to know their past and how that has affected each of them to this
day. Through his research, he go to know the nuns physical state. Snowdon also took the time to
learn more about their spiritual, emotional, and psychological well being as well. He was a good

Analysis Of The Planets By Gustav Theodore Holst
Gustav Theodore Holst was born on September 21st, 1874 and died on May 25th, 1934 he was an
English composer and teacher. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became
famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had
seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planetsbut had no
connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to
the God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones,
horns, timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was
characterized by five beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no
harmonic purpose in the Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work
because war is horrific, insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the
beginning, it had a fast tempothroughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the
way through, when the movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an
end or was coming to an end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the
combination of the rhythms, the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave
the whole movement a military essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was
not the same in the end it somehow slightly changed. Gustav creates

Banking Concept Of Education Essay
The fragment of the text Banking Concept of Education written by Paulo Freire addresses the
objectives and outcomes of both the traditional education system and the problem solving system.
The writer states how the banking educational system does not enable students to think by
themselves and programs them to only retain information and data from their instructor. In addition,
the system puts them away from being creative and thinking independently. For instance, the
instructor usually has a higher authority and attitude towards the students, which does not enable
them to conceptualize and question the material that they are given. The teacher instead should not

The New Meaning Of Educational Change Essay
According to Michael Fullan (2016) in his book, The New Meaning of Educational Change,
successful organizations that demonstrate change followed principled concepts of change. The
reason for their success if that there is tangible proof of alignment in keeping components of
actions. Fullan (2016) stated that successful change incorporates five factors. In this essay, three
of the five factors will be discussed and an example of an organization using components of the
change be revealed. Often when organization shave to go through the process of change it means
either they have gone through change to repair broken areas or they are going through change as
a reflective exercise before embarking on a larger scope of practice perhaps to expand into new
growth within their organization. In either course, the larger concern is that organizations must
embrace change and engage in meaningful constructed ways to promote the best growth with the
fewest steps to reach accomplishment. A key decision factor to change is whether an organize
will change because they adopt a model and see a better way or whether they want to save their
resources. Fullan (2016) suggested that the reason for the change is largely to work is because, the
organizations, Define closing the gap as the overarching goal, Assume that lack of capacity is the
initial problem and then work on it continuously, and Stay the course through continuity of good
direction by leveraging leadership, (Fullan, 2016,

Peer Review Strengths And Weaknesses
Peer review is more than just reading someone s paper and tell them if it s good or bad. It s
about explaining them what their weaknesses and strengths are. It can also help you as a writer
by giving you ideas of how to put stuff together in your essay. Personally, I believe that I was
really engaged when it came to peer reviewing. I truly appreciated the criticism and honesty of
my peers and I hope that they feel the same way about me. I tried to explain to them what was
wrong with each page step by step and what are some of their weaknesses and strengths.
Reviewing papers can be really hard for multiple reasons. The major one is because I don t like
telling others that they re doing something wrong, or because sometimes I just don t agree with
their point of view, an example of this is the RPP of my peer Jeffrey. Jeffrey believes that
legalizing marijuana would be beneficial to communities and even though I disagree with him I
still manage to give him a good review and gave him some sources that may help his claim.

other people s paper. So what I do is wait for professor s King review and make corrections based
on his opinion, or ask one of my friends who like to read and write to review for me. Something
that I would like to say about my experience with peer reviewing in 1302 is that I never felt
insulted by no one which was great. I believe that if I were to get insulted in a peer review I would
have to take it as a different type of review since everyone has a different way to express

Theme Of Self-Determination In Through The Tunnel
Throughout the story Through the Tunnel, the most important theme that recurs is self
determination. The boy in the story, Jerry, has demonstrated this self determination by pushing
himself through tough situations. One of these situations was when Jerry saw the French boys
playing in the ocean. In the text, it said, To be with them, of them, was a craving that filled his
whole body. (244) This quote proves his determination because later on in the story, he then swam
toward them. Eventually, they started playing, and the boys yelled cheerful greetings at him. That s
when Jerry knew that he was welcomed in. Without his determination in this scene, Jerry wouldn t
have been able to play with the boys. Jerry demonstrates self determination in

First of all, financial institutions were rare in Britain at this time. Therefore, it was very hard to

crucial to contact aristocrats who were willing to lend money. Another financial problem is
related to the lack of standards and tools to run a business at this time. As Wedgwood explained
during the vase madness period, the financial health of the company was in peril even if they

Impacts Of Anthropogenic Activities And Land Use Changes...
Impacts on the forests are increasing as a result of the fantastic growth of human populations and
the global spread of pollutants leading to loss of biodiversity which is one of the most severe
threats to sustainability.
Land use changes have transformed land cover to farmlands, grazing lands, human settlements and
urban centers at the expense of natural vegetation particularly in West Africa. These changes are
associated with deforestation, biodiversity loss and land degradation. The relationships between land
use and biodiversity are fundamental to understanding the links between people and their
environment
The aim of this work is to provide a holistic view of the impacts of anthropogenic activities and
land use changes on biodiversity conservation by synthesizing works and facts across a range of
different related research works.

between individuals in a population or between plant varieties, the diversity of species, and the

As you know by now, I am a firm believer in body weight exercises, or what I like to call REAL
exercises.
What does this mean?
Well, based on my experience, I find that too many people tend to take the easy way out when it
comes to the exercise they do to try and lose their unwanted body fat.
A perfect example is that mystery machine that seems to be so popular, called the Elliptical
Trainer. Body weight exercises can beat this type of exercise hands down in many ways. For
example, it s been proven that the movement that is replicated by one of these elliptical trainers is
unique unto itself, and doesn t mirror any natural movement that the human body performs on a
regular basis. In other words, doing a regular workout on one of these machines is like practicing
your golf swing for hours upon hours and then going out and playing a game of soccer, hoping that
those practice sessions will help your game!
Plus, let s face it, once you get on the machine and get it moving, you re pretty much just going
through the motions

Ethnic Identity Development
Ethnic Identity Development Ethnic identity development of ethnic minorities in the United States
has attracted an increasing attention in the adolescent development and college transition literature.
A review of literature related to ethnic identity development highlights two major lines of research:
1) identity processes from a developmental perspective and 2) the content and meaning of ethnic
identity (Phinney, 1989; Seller et al., 1997; Yip, 2014). Some scholars have specifically examined
the developmental progression that individuals go through as they come to understand their ethnic

Hoping to address the limitations of the MEIM, Umana Taylor, Yazedjian Bamaca Gomez (2004)
created the Ethnic Identity Scale (EIS), which is primarily based on Erikson s and Tajfel s theories.
The EIS consists of 46 assessing three distinct components of ethnic identity: exploration,
resolution, and affirmation. The exploration subscale assesses the extent to which individuals have
explored their ethnic identity; resolution subscale assesses the extent to which individuals have
resolved issues related to their ethnic identity, and affirmation refers to the feelings (positive or
negative) individuals associated with their ethnic identity. Using the three subscales while being
consistent with Marcia s (1980) identity statuses, Umana Taylor et al. (2004) proposed a new
categorization scheme which classifies individuals into 8 ethnic identity statuses: diffuse positive,
diffuse negative, foreclosed positive, foreclosed negative, moratorium positive, moratorium
negative, achieved positive, and achieved negative. For example, diffuse positive characterizes
individuals who scored low on both exploration and resolution subscales, but with high affirmation.
Unlike the MEIM, the EIS allows researchers to take a dimensional approach to understanding
ethnic identity. The score of the subscales are continuous variables, so researchers can examine the
relationship among the three with other variables of

Kenneth Green, Ryan Boyd, and Nelson were the Nightingales, while Marcus McAlister, Jessica
the Clever Jacobson and a Jackbooter named Bristol were their unit s auxiliaries. On one hand,

Will the two of you be so kind as to relay your recent findings to us? Brenda and Siegfried nodded
their heads in compliance with the Nightingale s request. It s a pleasure, muttered Siegfried,
before allowing Brenda to go first in informing the Nightingale. Last week, the FYC s managed
to take two freelance Jackbooter crews of five out of commission, recalled Brenda. The leaders
were suspended, when their fellow partners folded like a lawn chair. As a result of being
demoralized by the FYC s attempts to remove freelance Jackbooters, it s a shame to admit that
these two crews morale was literally crushed like a Styrofoam cup. Sorry to hear that, Marcus
McAlister told Brenda, upon hearing what she had to say to him and his fellow comrades, Is
there anything else you guys managed to pick up in your transactions, besides the usual FYC
informer gig? From what I heard from one of my usual customers a few days back, Siegfried said,
trying to remember what this usual customer of his told him, One of the FYC head honchos is

The San Antonio Art Museum
The exhibition that I viewed at the San Antonio Art Museum was called 28 Chinese . This
exhibit was based on the artwork of 28 contemporary Chinese artists. Throughout the exhibit, it
was discussing the fall of communism, poverty, the essence of time, resistance, rebellion and the
conservation of history. Some of the artwork I saw were created by Zhu Jinshi, Qiu Zhijie,
Zhang Huan, and Shang Yixin, just to name a few. The exhibit was on two floors of the
museum. When I first entered the exhibit, it led me to a big white room with art being displayed
on all walls. The first room was based on the Coca Cola project in which there was a tall case of
Coca Cola bottles being displayed right when you walk in. To the right was a clear box that held
burnt down Coca Cola bottles. These items being displayed made me want to read about the
project since it was a familiar company that most people know. Some of the other rooms were
structured differently. Some had sculptures, audio visuals, interactive pieces and others had
modified furniture but every piece of art had a description next to it which told who the artist
was as well as the meaning of the art itself. The materials used for some of the art works included
wood, bamboo, and rice paper. The second floor to the exhibit is mostly abstract art work. The
overall theme of this was to express their preservation of Chinese culture being good and bad
aspects through art. In order for each piece of artwork to convey their purpose,

Tweed Ring Research Paper
William M. Tweed was head of the great dramas of the postbellum period, Tweed Ring. The
group was composed of Tweed, Oakey Hall, Richard Connolly , and Peter Sweeny, among other
people. Historians believe that between the 1860s and early 1870s the Tweed Ring defrauded
the City of New York from anywhere between $50 million or $940 million in today s money and
$100 million which is $1.8 billion in today s standards. When The Ring collapsed short after it
was found to be corrupt it sent a shockwave across the country and especially the region. The
scandal affected nearly all of New York s political class. A document was later found belonging to
the Tweed family which it quoted Senator Booth, a Republican, claiming that the taint of scandal

  • 2. The Feminist Short Story Of The Great Beacons My dear reader, you live in a universe that is replete with adventures of the unknown, mysteries of the forgotten and falsehoods of the truth. Yet, those are all lesser tales which shall remain untold for now. The story in which you are about to delve into is far grander than any of the former. It is possibly the truest legend that I have collected. It has taken me several years to find each piece in this intricate tale. I had to venture to the very darkest corners if this world, which, mind you, are difficult to find and flagitious creatures dwell within. Other parts of the story, however, were easy to come across, and the furthest I had to go was to the ancient maple tree at the end of the lane. I realize that you may be curious of my identity,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It smelled like human waste and rotten flesh. There were stains of dried blood on nearly every surface, and most appalling, on a pair of shackles, somewhat hidden in the corner by a frail, broken body. Her frame was naturally petite, but now she was all sallow skin and protruding bones. She probably weighed about fifty pounds. Her skin was pallid, and nearly translucent. Her face was gaunt, and her once exquisite ebony locks were colorless from malnutrition. The only evidence that she was indeed alive, were her vitreous gasps for breath, and her large grey eyes. Her eyes were filled with a terror I can scarce describe. Aside from the terror, deep in her eyes was also a great suffering, one that only intensified when she saw the bars of her cell clang open. Her name was Violet, quite fittingly, for she was as delicate as her namesake, both in appearance, and temperament. She had been detained for nearly a full pass of the moon, facing abhorrent treatment. She had been starved, tortured, violated, and ridiculed by an all but venomous mob of piss drunk men. The Persistence of Memory, A Trip to the Moon, and The Great Day of His Wrath, all share scientific context concerning theories that are still being debated today. Each work art demonstrates ideal and fantastical versions of these theories in dreamlike or nightmare ways. For example in Dali s The Persistence of Memory, he paints realistic, everyday objects in a strange pattern in an unusual landscape, for example, it is improbable that clocks would be melting, and in a desert. But the idea of time dilation is a probability, so Dali uses the improbable to explain the probable. This is the same for A Trip to the Moon. Humans have always questioned the existence of extraterrestrial forms. In MГ©liГЁs film, it is improbable that the group of astronomers would be able to travel to space without the consideration for the lack of oxygen in space. However, as scientists were focusing only on the survival in space and the transportation there, MГ©liГЁs focuses on the astronauts adventure on the moon. He ignores the probable and approaches the existence of extraterrestrial life in a fantastical way by interacting the astronauts and the moon dwellers. In Martin s painting, Martin envisions the apocalypse straight out of the Bible. However, in the Book of Revelations, the only visual given is through the text. It is most closely relatable to the text in Revelations 6. The text explores a few details in the catastrophic sight, such as mountains falling. Martin takes this reference from the Bible and combines it with his studies of dinosaur bones and fossils as a scientist. • 5. Nature Vs Nurture As A Serial Killer Historical Background What causes an individual to become a serial killer? Bio psychologists believe that starting from birth the human mind is a tabula rasa or blank slate, and the individual learns behaviors and socio cultural norms from individuals around them. This concept of nature versus nurture was based upon the idea that it is how you are brought up (nurture) that governs the psychologically significant aspects of child development and the concept of maturation applies only to the biological. The theory that explains the nature aspect of the nature versus nurture principle is called the attachment theory, which views the bond between mother and child as being an innate process that ensures survival. It is a biological need that has ensured the survival of many species including the human race; because of the need to protect and be protected humans as a species has been able to endure. It is also a psychological need to want to be cared for as well as care for others a study done by Harry Harlow (1950s). The concept of nurture focuses mainly on the effect that the environment has on the development of human beings and whether it is more important than nature. Several studies have been generated to try and settle the ongoing debate of nature versus nurture. Many psychologists agree that nurture play a greater part in the development of a human being. If the question mark does not succeed in becoming the market leader, then after perhaps years of cash consumption it will degenerate into a dog when the market growth declines. Question marks must be analyzed carefully in order to determine whether they are worth the investment required to grow market share. Stars are units with a high market share in a fast growing industry (High Market Share / High Market Growth). The hope is that stars become the next cash cows. Sustaining the business unit s market leadership may require extra cash, but this is worthwhile if that s what it takes for the unit to remain a leader. When growth slows, if they have been able to maintain their category leadership stars become cash cows, else they become dogs due to low relative market share. As a particular industry matures and its growth slows, all business units become either cash cows or dogs. The natural cycle for most business units is that they start as question marks, then turn into stars. Eventually the market stops growing thus the business unit becomes a cash cow. At the end of the cycle the cash cow turns into a dog. The overall goal of this ranking was to help corporate analysts decide which of their business units to fund, and how much; and which units to sell. We limited our scope to six candidates. Originally, they included former Mayor Sheila Dixon, State Senator Catherine Pugh, attorney Elizabeth Embry, businessman David Warnock, City Councilmember Nicholas Mosby, and City Councilmember Carl Stokes. Based on a Baltimore Sun/University of Baltimore poll, these candidates placed in the top six within a crowded field. On April 13, however, Councilmember Mosby dropped out of the race and pledged his support to Senator Pugh. Therefore, we included the top five remaining candidates. Criminal justice reform and the economy were the issues candidates discussed the most on the campaign trail. Since the king trusted Nehemiah so much, he noticed his cupbearer s unusual sadness one day. Private Prisons And Public Prisons The Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), which is essentially the Enron of the private prison industry, has long touted private prisons as an alternative to government owned prisons. Indeed, CCA has set forth three reasons justifying the creation of private prisons for federal inmates: Cost Effectiveness. Private prisons are less expensive to operate and will save the federal government millions of dollars. Safety. Private prisons are effectively protect inmates safety. Humane Treatment. Private prisons are modern facilities that provide humane treatment to inmates. Studies have shown that private prisons achieve none of these goals, and the reason is simple: private prisons operate under a fundamentally different regulatory structure that alters the choices and motives of its participants. Indeed, unlike their federal counterparts, private prisons operate in a market economy where maximizing profits is vital to sustainability and thus a driving factor in corporate decision making. Under basic economic theory, when operational costs exceed current and future estimates, corporations must identify ways in which to reduce such costs and therefore increase profitability. This is precisely what happened in the private prison context. Corporations such as CCA often underestimate the cost of operating private prisons in a manner that would increase safety and treat inmates more humanely. In spite of what painters, archeologists, or researchers of the nineteenth century believed about the ancient world, cuneiform has since proven its historical mettle. As displayed by Darius and his memorial at Bisitun, the early, crude cuneiform of 5000 B.C.E. adapted itself to culture after culture, and morphed into the dusty forerunner of our modern alphabet. The Phoenicians, the original ancient mariners, are responsible for transforming cuneiform into a more efficient writing system by paring down the somewhat ungainly number of 5,000 cuneiform characters into 29 characters. Adopted around 1000 B.C.E., the Phoenician alphabet was not a collection of pictographs like many early forms of writing, but instead a close relative of many modern writing systems.11 The sophisticated navy and extensive trade network of Phoenicia ensured that this new version of cuneiform would quickly spread to its ancient neighbors. All three monsters have similarities and differences but they all have one thing in common which is basically to hurt others. The three monsters that will be highlighted throughout this essay will be Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the dragon. Staring off with Grendel, Grendel is this large, evil, man eating monster that lives in the swamps below the Kingdom of Herot ruled by Hrothgar. Grendel attacks the Kingdom every night killing innocent people who fear for their lives because of him. Grendel is looked upon as being the antiChrist, he is evil and more comparable to as a demon. However, Snowdon does not limit this book to just that. He conducted a research project where he interacted with the older generation of nuns. Originally, he treated them as just test subjects in his study of Alzheimer s disease. As his research progressed, he soon realized that he could not just treat the nuns like lab rats. One of the younger nuns approached him and said I ll move forward with your request, buy you need to listen carefully to what I am about to say. He was best known for The Planets suite, this composition became famous internationally after World War One. The Planets was composed from 1914 to 1916, it had seven movements, each of the movements had the Astrological traits of the planetsbut had no connections to mythology. The first movement of the suite is Mars Bringer of War which refers to the God of War. This movement includes various instruments such as tubas, trumpets, trombones, horns, timpani, flutes, clarinets, violins, cellos, and snare drums. The movement was characterized by five beats and a minor scale which indicates the opposite of happy. There is no harmonic purpose in the Bringer of War piece, I would classify it as an inhuman piece of work because war is horrific, insensible at all costs. The music was suspenseful and tormenting since the beginning, it had a fast tempothroughout the whole movement. Many dynamics were used all the way through, when the movement was finishing up many rests kept showing as if war came to an end or was coming to an end. Mars, Bringer of War gave me an utterly angry, threatening vibe, the combination of the rhythms, the vibrato of the string instruments and the beats of the drum gave the whole movement a military essence. Although I believe that the rhythm, in the beginning, was not the same in the end it somehow slightly changed. Gustav creates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
