Newton’s Laws of Motion
Newton’s 1st Law
Inertia-
An object at rest will stay at rest and an
object in motion will stay in motion
unless acted upon by an outside force
Newton’s 2nd Law
Acceleration of an object depends on
the mass and the force applied
*If you increase the mass of an object then
the acceleration decreases
*If you increase the force on an object
then the acceleration increases
Formula for 2nd Law:
Force = mass x acceleration
Force is measured in Newtons (N)

If F = M x A
Then M = F/A
And A = F/M
Newton’s 3rd Law
For every action there is an equal
and opposite reaction

  • 7. Newton’s 1st Law Inertia- An object at rest will stay at rest and an object in motion will stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
  • 8. Newton’s 2nd Law Acceleration of an object depends on the mass and the force applied *If you increase the mass of an object then the acceleration decreases *If you increase the force on an object then the acceleration increases
  • 9. Formula for 2nd Law: Force = mass x acceleration Force is measured in Newtons (N) kg m = N s2
