5. Author’s Purpose
• Persuade – the author wants to get
you to do or believe in something
• Inform- the author is telling you about
something that happened or is
happening to educate you
• Entertain – the author is telling you
something for fun for you to enjoy

6. You Do
• Find 3 examples of each type of article in your
newspaper.
• Cut it out and glue it on the butcher paper.
• Make sure to write what type of article it is
underneath and WHY you believe it is.

7. Audience
• Underneath the articles, tell me who you think
the intended audience is and why you think so.
▫ Example: teenage girl, 40-50 year old man, 20-30
year old woman, 30-40 year old mom, etc.
